legoman666 Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 (edited) I think I finally got it. This was my previous best attempt: And here's what I came up with: Still in a 7 wide envelope too. Only downside is that the pieces used to make it are kind of limited in color. They are only all available in black, blue, dark grey, light grey, red, tan, and yellow. I'll probably end up doing a UP locomotive in yellow/dark grey. I really wanted to do a dark blue CSX es44DC, but the parts aren't there yet. For reference, here's the real thing: http://www.trainspot...0110530-823.jpg Edited February 22, 2015 by legoman666 Quote
Electricsteam Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 It looks a tad incredibly fragile.... how will fit it onto a train? Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 I recognize this technique ...I've used a similar scheme for my UP6900 Nice work! Quote
BricksMcgee Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 Wow, that's very close. Some crazy SNOTting going on there! Quote
zephyr1934 Posted February 22, 2015 Posted February 22, 2015 That is enough to turn your head inside out, great work. Quote
legoman666 Posted February 23, 2015 Author Posted February 23, 2015 (edited) It looks a tad incredibly fragile.... how will fit it onto a train? Not too fragile. I don't understand the question. That is enough to turn your head inside out, great work. Thanks. Hope to start construction soon. Will make some sort of UP liveried EMD. It will probably be a dummy unit, I've got plenty of powered locomotives at the moment. Also want to remake my Norfolk Southern to be slightly larger. Maybe I'll do that first. cgarison Posted February 23, 2015 Posted February 23, 2015 Very nice detail on the cab details. I have to admit that I shy away from that much detail on my train mocs due to some bad experiences where couple trains that I have run for an extended period of time start dropping pieces along the tracks as they run. legoman666 Posted March 8, 2015 Author Posted March 8, 2015 Only piece that floats is the double 45 peak. Will only fall out if you flip the thing upside down. Everything else is reasonably sturdy. Quote
legoman666 Posted March 9, 2015 Author Posted March 9, 2015 (edited) Funny how an idea of how to do one thing turns in to an entire locomotive. Waiting on an order of a couple pieces to finish it off. The zigzag is done with cheese. Inspiration is a Union Pacific C45ACCTE AKA ES44DC: Edited March 9, 2015 by legoman666 Quote
zephyr1934 Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Look out swoofty, someone is coming after your angle! (grin) Seriously though, all sorts of great angles in this build, even before reading down to your mention of it, the "Z" stripe stood out. Quote
Mestari Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Wow, my head is still twisted after watching this... How stable is that build? Quote
ScotNick Posted March 10, 2015 Posted March 10, 2015 Nice way of representing the angles! You didn't choose an easy engine and still are doing a great job. I'm interested to see what this will look like in the end! Quote

(grin) Seriously though, all sorts of great angles in this build, even before reading down to your mention of it, the "Z" stripe stood out. Swoofty is the man. Very prolific. I pull a lot of my inspiration from him (as you can tell by looking at the rear grills). I wish he built in 7W though, then I could see what he comes up with for the windshield on the American diesels we both seem to like. I tried a couple solutions for brick built, but none were satisfactory. My current implementation has a gap. All in all, it's pretty strong. Only weak parts are the windshield and some of the rear grills. The nose is pretty sturdy considering every bit of it is snot. Quote
Man with a hat Posted March 12, 2015 Posted March 12, 2015 Very impressive. Amazing how you managed this. I just can't stop looking at it. Quote
legoman666 Posted March 13, 2015 Author Posted March 13, 2015 Almost done. Waiting for decals. Got the angles right on the fuel tank. It took some crazy snot to get it to work. Some photos of this specific locomotive show a grey hood: https://www.uprr.com/newsinfo/graphics/media_kit/pinkribbon/up7400_02_hires.jpg Some show a yellow hood. What's weird is that both the photo above and the photo I linked just prior are both from the same Union Pacific press release. Anyway, I did it in grey because I had all of the necessary pieces. More snot. First time I was able to get some decent looking air tanks built. Not putting PF in this model sure made it easier to build. Norfolk Southern pair not pictured. Need to be remodeled. Quote
Mestari Posted March 13, 2015 Posted March 13, 2015 It's a shame LEGO produces color yellow in hundreds of different shades. It spoils the effect a bit when you see that mosaic. The model itself looks great! Quote

kieran Posted March 14, 2015 Posted March 14, 2015 Looking amazing, what's the part count on this to hold all the angles? Quote
jamesed_1971 Posted March 15, 2015 Posted March 15, 2015 That's a nice locomotive you have built Quote
legoman666 Posted March 15, 2015 Author Posted March 15, 2015 Looking amazing, what's the part count on this to hold all the angles? Thanks! That's hard to say since I don't make digital models of my builds. As a reference, each truck is over 200 pieces. I'd guess around 2000 total? Lots of little pieces. Quote
legoman666 Posted March 16, 2015 Author Posted March 16, 2015 (edited) Oops. Edited March 16, 2015 by legoman666 Quote
Phoxtane Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 (edited) Oops indeed. On a side note, would you mind talking about that bridge? In my experience, pieces don't bend like that unless something awful has been done to them. Edited March 16, 2015 by Phoxtane Quote

In my experience, pieces don't bend like that unless something awful has been done to them. I think it's not the pieces that bend. The 1x4 technic bricks are just held together by connection pins and if you do that with multiple 1x4 technic bricks you can easily bend the whole structure. Quote
Barduck Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Oops. there's something familiar about that coach Quote
ummester Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Nice loco loco. How do the trucks work? I take it from the rails its a PF loco but the wheel spacing looks further apart than the PF motor? Quote
