Doctor Sinister Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 I decided that set 7094 just wasn't quite right, so I ordered a shed-load of blue plates of varying sizes and voila! One moat. A bit of decoration here and there and I think it looks dead cool. This is such a small modification it's not really a "MOC" but it does make it look ten times better, IMO. Anything else you reckon I could add? Dr. S. Quote
Corvus Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 Maybe add some small "buildings" inside, like a blacksmith, well, etc.? Speaking of which, do you have any inside pics? Quote

Corvus Posted September 27, 2007 Posted September 27, 2007 If you've done any inside modding, I'd love to see some. :-) Quote
Doctor Sinister Posted September 27, 2007 Author Posted September 27, 2007 If you've done any inside modding, I'd love to see some. :-) Not yet. All I did was mount the entire castle on an extra-large grey baseplate. It fits nicely with the plate sticking out around every edge. It was on those edges that I put the plates for the moat. You can pick the whole thing up and it's as solid as a rock! Dr. S. Quote
Lt. Col. Thok Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Very nice idea! I put green bricks around mine (no more green for Colonel Thok! :-D ) and it turned out nicely. Quote
SirNadroj Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Thats superb! Lego really needs to stick to classics ~ like moats! *wub* Quote
gylman Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Definitely an improvement! The weak part of this castle is the tower/building inside. It just looks so.... thin.... empty.... ANd why the heck is a mini-chamber just sitting out there on the edge of a parapet? Is it a medieval outhouse? If you could beef that section of 7094 up up a bit, make it look more like a real tower, that would make it look better. Come to think of it, that would be a good contest. Using 7094, and 200 other bricks or Lego pieces of any kind, build a better castle. Show Lego how good this COULD have been. Anyone interested? If 5 or more people enter, I'll put up some sort of minimal prize. Quote

hollisbrick Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Woahh that is absolutly great!!!!!! One of the best MOC castles i've seen in a while! Quote
Vader Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Nice *y* The moat really makes the set look alot better, it's simple but so effective. I do agree with the otheres though, this set suffers because of that weak back tower. If that could be bulked up it would really help the whole thing look alot better. Also perhaps adding another turret to the side at the back would help? Quote
natelite Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Also perhaps adding another turret to the side at the back would help? I would recommend against this. remember the 2008 troll set? it has a tower. :-P thanks to the modular design it will fit in well. *y* Quote
Batbrick Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 I would recommend against this. remember the 2008 troll set? it has a tower. :-P thanks to the modular design it will fit in well. *y* ______ This is true, I was thinking that too, a stand alone tower could easily be used to beef up the castle! ;-) This is some very nice modding Doctor Sinister! *sweet* As always of course! ;-) The moat definitely adds alot just like a green hill can also add a lot. Just an idea, but if someone had the Skeleton Ship Attack they could try and add the dock to the side of the castle, to make it by the sea. Like I said though, just an idea, but I think it would be cool to see. TTFN! >:-) Quote
Vader Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 I guess adding the 2 together would be good, though i did view the upcoming tower as a stand alone one. Quote

There's a back entrance to the Castle which could lead nicely to the harbour. In which case, as you say, it would not be a moat any more, it would be an island castle just off the coast! Dr. S. Quote

Dr. S. ______ Oooooh! *wub* That would look good! I myself am going to get the Skellie Ship Attack, but first I must finish off the Viking line (pitiful to be that far behind I know! :-$ ) By the time you have finished modding this Dr. S it is going to be a MEGA castle! TTFN! >:-) Quote
Doctor Sinister Posted September 28, 2007 Author Posted September 28, 2007 (edited) Have been fiddling a bit more... I've added an observation platform to the rear left hand corner. I don't have the necessary pieces to build a full tower but I'm quite pleased with this. As you can see, I've used the curve in that corner to make the platform diagonally oriented. It's supported on three pillars. I've used the offset-stud building method to get the pieces to line up with the battlements below. This was the trickiest part to get right, but it aligns perfectly with the supports offset. There's a ladder leading from ground level so the troops can man the platform. LMKWYT! Dr. S. gylman Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Clever ladder. Like that. Looks like someone's got a gray-bley situation though. Doesn't the colour mismatch drive you nuts? Or does the photography make it seems worse than it is. Quote

Or does the photography make it seems worse than it is. Hmmm, it looks fine in real life. The colours I used in the addition match those in the original model. I tried to follow the layout/placement of the colours as best I could, so walls are light grey, plates are bley - except for one plate that I don't have in the latter. The colour difference doesn't worry me anyway. Real castles evolved over centuries, with new additions by new owners every so often - so you will always get different styles and designs appearing in different phases of a castle. I reason that this castle is no different. Dr. S. Quote
Batbrick Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 I like that addition Dr.S ! *sweet* That observation tower fills that annoying gap in the Castle, and add a cool function! I also really like how you constructed the ladder. TTFN! >:-) Quote
Asuka Posted September 28, 2007 Posted September 28, 2007 Cool improvements. Stringent details and a touch of realism Quote

hollisbrick Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 (edited) Nice work! You could add something else in the inside so iy's not so empty. A jousting barrier like in 7009 or a big tower. Edited October 1, 2007 by hollisbrick Quote
