I buy all the sets in europe, and there are the boxes with only the set number, but if i look at the reviews from america i see much more on the box, how many pieces, etc. And why is this? Here is a example:

Europe:

Just wondering, why is this?

I kind of remember it's something TLC has to do by law, and not making a box with written details was the reason the Castle advent calendar couldn't be sold in North America.

But I might be wrong.

That's my picture! :tongue::grin:

I didn't know what the reasons were for not putting the piece count on boxes, it's very interesting. For some reason it's always us in the U.S. that have these weird laws. :wacko:

It has to do with different rules & regulations on what information need to be shown for the customers.

CopMike

That and the fact that we're sue happy. :hmpf_bad: Thanks CopMike, I always thought that the pieces count/ age suggestions etc. were for prelim pics.

The boxes have been like this for a long time, at least up to the early 80s. I frequently used to buy sets from Europe some years ago and all the boxes lacked the set names or most other information, only including the age limit and the fine print legal trademark text. You could always tell the difference between a US/Canada set and a UK/European one this way.

Some other countries also have the full information shown. I have a handful of sets from Japan and South Korea and those boxes show the piece counts and what appear to be set names (although I can't read them).

The Hoth Rebel Base and Sith Infiltrator that I got a few weeks ago off of U.S. S@H both didn't have the piece count on them which I thought was interesting.

Perhaps they came from a European warehouse?
