Skorpius47 Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 The Agents line is getting a lot of love for the wonderful vehicle design, which is understandable because the designs are fantastic. Everything is sleek and the color schemes are quite contrastingly complementary. When I saw Mission 5, I knew I had to get that set at some point because the helicopter had so much swooshing potential and the car was just too Bond-esque to pass up. Upon purchase, I got to building everything, step-by-step through the instruction booklet. Once completed, I was disappointed in two things that a lot of people were disappointed with: 1: The winch system on the Helicopter was tied to the main rotor blade mechanism. This prevented the top rotor from spinning freely because of the string. How unfortunate. 2: The cockpit, or lack thereof, was designed specifically for Spy Clops. As gnarly as he is, Spy Clops is a bit too bulky and clumsy for such a sleek and sexy Helicopter. Luckily, I had recently purchased two Aquaraiders #7772 Lobster Strikes that were on sale at the LEGO store. Since I had given my LEGO collection away years and years ago (whoops!), I was left with only a few random bricks, plates, and minifigs. At the time, I thought the Aquaraiders sets would give me some decent parts to use in later MOCs and Mods. I was right; #7772 gave me enough parts to build this modification and provide me with one of the best-looking LEGO Helicopters I've ever seen. I have an LDD reconstruction of the modification for everyone to check out. It can be downloaded and plugged into LDD for anyone interested in recreating a similar modification, tweaking it to their personal styles and tastes of course. [download] As you can see from [this] image, the modification plugs right into the bottom of the model. The blue bricks are used in place of the actual model to show what is modified. The biggest change would be the replacement of the 4x6 plate with a 4x8 plate for additional support but that can be ignored entirely, without a complete catastrophic failure of the underside supports, so that the modification can be easily added and removed at your heart's content. the winch system is also easily removed, just take out the smaller wheel, axle, and rubber band. But for those who still enjoy the winch, the string can hang out one of the corners and still provide Spy Clops room for grappling onto Chase. Quote
Lord Of Pies Posted July 19, 2008 Posted July 19, 2008 A very good mod, I thought the helicopter looked a bit exposed without much of a cockpit, your mod makes itl ook much better. Plus it isn't that hard to achieve either, I may have to try this mod when I get this set eventually! Quote
Batbrick Posted July 20, 2008 Posted July 20, 2008 Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! what a superb mod, it makes the chopper look perfect. I might even try it, though I think i prefer a Spy Clops modified chopper just for its uniqueness. Great job! Batbrick Away! Quote
Skorpius47 Posted July 22, 2008 Author Posted July 22, 2008 Thank you very much for the positive feedback. I've really enjoyed the way the sleek cockpit began to shape as I added the parts. I'd like to see if anyone else has made similar modifications or have taken my suggestion and altered my design for their own Helicopters. I've also posted a new mod [here]. Please take a look and leave feedback. Quote
