yohai71 Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Hello all. Usually I hover around the Town and Trains' forum, but recently I got my hands on some Technic models, which I thought I might share here. I would like this to be less technical and more down-to-earth; after all, when you open the box, most of us are not interested in dry data, but want to start building right away (at least I do)... All the specs are readily available on the internet, so excuse me if I don't bother with that. Also, personally I'd prefer more pictures over words, so that's what I tried to do here. Oh, and you get a video at the end as a bonus. So lets start (hands in pictures are mine, use them for scale...). Obviously, the box is small- it's a MINI off-roader, yes? Open the box and out slide two bags (un-numbered), and the tires...: ... and two manuals- one is for the chassis, the other for the (alternating) bodies: Contents of bag 1- hang on, what's that white envelope doing there? This one! Ah, rubbers... I'll get to those later: Contents of bag two- I really like those Orange sort-of shark-fins parts: A few pages from the instruction manuals for your pleasure: the building process- remember the rubbers? All done: Chassis is done: See how it works: Halfway through the body build: Almost done: Done! The above and below photos are to show you how the body detaches form the chassis, so you can dismantle it and build the B model (see the manual): Did anyone here ever win this?... See the leftovers: And now for some publicity photos: Here's a nice comparison with a LEGO city model- the Fireman Motorcyclist: Interesting- it's almost up to scale with the Off-roader- see? Now for the video (why can't I embed the video into the post as I did with the photos? oh well): And this is the real-life counterpart, the "Norwegian Jeep" I was talking about in the video: Well, that's it. If you've reached here and saw the video, you'll know what I think of this model... Thanks, I hope you liked the review. Quote
afol1969 Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Thanks very much for the review. Although the Mini-Offroader only contains 100 parts, a lot of them are good for spare, like the towball pins, the 5L thin liftarms with axle holes, 90° axle connectors. Interesting is the use of rubber bands instead of shock absorbers. I think, I'll buy it.... Greetings Alex Quote
Freekysch Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Nice little review, i like how they managed to put suspension on such a little Offroader. Quote
Lost_In_Noise Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 (edited) yo have to insert media to embed videos ([media](url)[ /media ]). Make sure the url isn't shortened, like the embed function og youtube suggests. Thanks ever so much for the review, and the great pictures! Edited February 28, 2014 by Lost_In_Noise Quote
yohai71 Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 Thanks very much for your kind posts. :thumbs up: (I'm on mobile...) Lost_In_Noise, thanks for your help- I tried that but no go. Purhaps the link was wrong. Quote
zux Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 I've build one without building instructions - quite a fun challenge (too less photos on the box and BI) Quote
