Endgame Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 You gotta have something, right? Driving around in a big truck with mounted lasers is cool and all, but you need some sort of building to keep the alien buggers in (and possibly do thorough painful research!). Thus, area brickty one was made from the pieces of a spare Earth Defense Truck. If you tell anyone you read this, you'll be thrown in to the prison with the alien menaces - and the little cycloptic one looks hungry FOR YOUR BRAINS. I just recently got back into lego, recieving the Alien striker, UFO abduction, and Earth defense HQ sets for the holidays. I decided to put my amatuerish MOC skills to the test by gutting the Earth Defense HQ and rebuilding it into something else. I estimate i used bout 65 - 75% of the EDHQ's pieces for this. Pictures are incredibly blurry due to me taking it with a 3DS - I should be able to remedy this soon enough. Without further ado... The view of the entire base. The back. The window shows 2 of the 3 current inmates in the cell - and they look rather gloomy. Don't walk by, the one with the big head and small brain likes to make faces at bystanders. This incredibly blurry photo (again, sorry!) shows that it is open back - I wanted this to resemble a playset. The box the Sarge is fumbling with is a storage container (top left on roof) - it detaches and the top slides off the reveal all sorts of goodies! The main computer and holding cell. The cell holds 2 aliens and 1 clinger comfortably - 3 woul be a bit cramped, and 4 might be possible (but would look silly!) :P Behind the laser turret and satelitte dishes. For those of you who know your AC, you might notcie the laser turret is mostly a combination of the missle roadblock from UFO abdcution and the prison pod from EDHQ. The back. This flips open to reveal the entrance to Area BricktyOne, and the... Dissection bay! I wonder what that scientist is going to do with those weird claws? And why is that alien cyborg wailing for his mother? Bonus image: The soldier manning the laser turret is quite the sharpshooter when it comes to UFOs... but not even she anticipated this UFO's crash site! Maybe poor Rookie should patrol with a buddy next time? There are some things that look a bit sloppy that i'd like to fix, but overall, I'm pleased with the end result. Comments and criticism appreciated - and I should have clearer pictrues coming by the end of the week! Thanks for reading, SirEndgame signing off. Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Not bad for a first MOC, no one ever comes up with gold straight away 'Endgame'. Shoot your creation against a plain background my be easier to see the detailing, try and also go over you design too....say the gunner doesn't have a gun sight but a brick....using the Force is he/she ? Use LDD to try this out in the digital world first sometimes, then build in brick helps too. Keep trying 'Endgame'......Brick On ! Quote

Perhaps I should pay visit to the Reviewer's academy - they might be able to teach me a thing or two about photography there. Also, that isn't the sight - that is the actual beam! I attempted to devises a mechanism to hide it, but it didn't cme out too well - i'll try again tonight and post pictures when i find my blasted sd card for my 12 megapixel camera.. I actually attempted LDD, but i wasn't a fan at all of the interface. Thanks for commenting! any other suggestions? Quote
surrideo Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 This reminds me in a good way of the alternate builds you used to get on the back of boxes. It's something I encourage my kids to do rather than use every part they want, to adapt and use the pieces that the set gives them to realise their own creation. Thanks and a building HQ is what I would have loved to have seen in a non existent second wave for alien conquest Quote
Hrw-Amen Posted January 29, 2012 Posted January 29, 2012 Yes I agree, an HQ Building would be good, both one for the aliens, (A proper mother ship.) and an ADU base. Yes, it is good to realise other models with the bits provided and gets the imagination running wild. I remember all those alternative models that used to be on the boxes as well. Good attempt here to do something similar. From a photography perspective, I would not overly worry. I am terrible, even when I folllow guides they never work out. I don't seem to be abel to hold the camera still, so your seems OK to me. Quote

The alternate model was what I intended They would add so much extra fun and time playing, but it seems TLC excluded them to lure you into buying more sets. I just didn't want to pull off the wheels and call it a dbuilding, though :P. If anyone has some tips or things that should be modified, please let me know - when I get the good camera back on Friday, i'll be able to update the photos. Changes I made today: -That wimpy little turret has been replaced with a mencaing dual laser cannon -The satelittle dishes have been rearranged to allow said giant cannon to swivel. - Lab has ben made slightly less cluttered (hooray!) -Made a training outpost Quote
