Kumpelkante Posted January 20, 2013 Posted January 20, 2013 Yesterday, while i bought a dvd for someone else, i bought a small Banbao set at Saturn (a german electronics store). For only 2,99€ i got this "nice" police car. P1010554 von tobiasgeserick auf Flickr Nothing of interest on the back of the box. P1010555 von tobiasgeserick auf Flickr The side of the box. It says "Die ist einProdukt der Marke Banbao und sollte nicht mit Produkten anderer Hersteller verwechselt werden." and translates to "This is a product of the brand Banbao and should not be confused with products from othe manufacterers." (ironically Banbao is clearly a copy of lego) P1010556 von tobiasgeserick auf Flickr And now, lets take a look at the fig. First there is a sheet with severel figs released by Banbao (as if there are collectors) P1010560 von tobiasgeserick auf Flickr on the back of the sheet there is an instruction on how to "sit" a fig on a horse or a seat. ... a bad sign already, but i'll come to this later. P1010561 von tobiasgeserick auf Flickr The fig's parts P1010563 von tobiasgeserick auf Flickr P1010564 von tobiasgeserick auf Flickr I tried but the visor just does not fit P1010566 von tobiasgeserick auf Flickr Can you guess which one is the real thing? P1010568 von tobiasgeserick auf Flickr There are only instructions on the car itself on a single page P1010558 von tobiasgeserick auf Flickr P1010559 von tobiasgeserick auf Flickr and i guess this is getting tiresome, so i show you the complete thing already: P1010574 von tobiasgeserick auf Flickr tying to sit him in the car P1010575 von tobiasgeserick auf Flickr actually sitting in the car P1010576 von tobiasgeserick auf Flickr Commentary: BAD BAD BAD. The Fig: First it looks like a cheap knock off of Lego Duplo (those old duplo-figs) but when you see the parts of the fig the look worse than those cheap minifigs you got out of kinder-überraschung in the 90s. The legs and the head (an the helmet) are actually worse than the ministeck fig i showed you a while ago: http://www.eurobrick...34&hl=ministeck The parts: The pieces are slightly taller than real lego but otherwise are compatible. The quality is not as good as legos but the bricks are slightly better than ministecks. Design and instructions: The desing in my opinion is nothing special for that size and price. But the instructions are lackluster as they only show the main set, but the other stuff does not include much to build anyway. The Minifigure-sheet on the other hand is a bad joke if you ask me, because i can see no good reason to collect these due to poor quality and availibility. Conclusion: hmmm... i do not want to waste any more time on cheap knock offs. Draw your own conclusions. (and feel free to share them= Quote
Grimmbeard Posted January 21, 2013 Posted January 21, 2013 I've never really bought a LEGO-knockoff before. This is just nasty Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 I don't know what I'd rather do buy this and burn it, or just burn 4 singles But seriously nice review, I never knew what brand those figs came from. How do those wheels roll? They don't look like they do a good job. This brand would definitely go to my donation box for a new home Quote
Hey Joe Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Thanks for the review. I occasionally 'go to the dark side' and dabble in clone brands myself as they are quite cheap here in China. I think I've bought three Ban Bao sets and only one of them was very good; a fire engine. I can't complain though as the price was right. Quote
lightningtiger Posted January 22, 2013 Posted January 22, 2013 Thanks for the review.....and this product is the very reason why Lego is number ONE ! Brick On with the real stuff ! Quote

Legtayor Posted January 24, 2013 Posted January 24, 2013 When I buy clone brands I tend not to buy the little $2-$5 sets as no effort is put into them. If I'm going to review or test out a company I'l go for a $10-$20 set. Nice review however. Quote
Peppermint_M Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Hmm, is that sign/flag printed or a sticker? Either way, the ! is a nice addition to a collection, I mostly buy clone brands these days for stickers and unique parts, Quote
titiblocks Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 the minifigure is horrible and with banbao i read oftern parts missing.... Quote
