    [PA CUP - Cat B - Class 2] Orion

Thanks for the ship Wellesley! It is a beauty and one can learn from its hull design. The 3 stars adorning her are the 3 wins in a row for Oleon at the boat race? Or is it one for every 10 wins?

What are the UK release dates for Trafalgar Square and ESB? My birthday is in a couple of weeks..... I see Trafalgar is 'launched' on 27th April in London, hopefully it will continue to be available for purchase from then as visiting there on May 8th.

LEGO 2019 Stranger Things Rumours Discussion

The set or at least the figures are probably not produced in China or any other place where minifigures leak. If they produced it in Billund, then there would be no leaks. Thats correct, I wrote about that under the link thats in the first post on this thread. But it's 349,99 Australian Dollars which will probably be converted to 199,99 USD

Indeed! If there are any side builds complementary to the house, only those two would be ideal! Well, if one of the potential side builds were to be a Lab Van, then Dr. Brenner would have to be included alongside.

  7. This is a great ship! Both idea and implementation worked really good. My favorite details are the stern microfigs, the masts/rigging (particularly the way the forward nearly horizontal mast is connected) and sails (glory to the IF) choices and the figurehead! If I had to change anything, it would be to work the hull a bit more (given bricks and time that is) but I really love this ship's overall appearance. Cheers!

    Is crowdfunding the future?

I agree with you. The amount of effort put into a creation would never be repaid, even if there are actually a lot of people that would buy that creation. I personally tried LEGO Ideas but after weeks/months I found that it's a sick system, based only on promotion of your product and not about the real quality of the MOC. There are creations built with a very high quality and hard work that have few hundreds of supporters. On the other side there are normal creations that esaily reach 10k supporters only because the creators were able to promote them in every possible way. (The last example is Museu Nacional - Rio de Janeiro that get 10k supporters in few days, and in the worst of the cases he would get a 500$ prize to spend on Lego store, or maybe - I don't think - he could get the 1% of total sales of the product if Lego produce it). About crowfounding I discovered that before this new opportunity given by BrickLink, someone tried to use another platform: Kickstarter, to finance the entire project. I mean not only the bricks, but also instructions, packaging and delivery. I remember for example two guys that tried to launch on Kickstarter a very well done project about Apollo 11. They obtained some money, but not enough to start the project. I hope that in the future there will be more opportunities for the creators :)
  12. That jeep model is seriously impressive! I doubt I'll get anything that looks nearly as good as that! I do note that the builder states "can not drive or steer smoothly, so rather than a playable model, this turned out to be more of a proof of concept". I'm hoping that by using multiple motors I'll be able to reduce the mechanical complexity compared to that one and end up with something that not only drives but has a fair bit of torque behind it as well. Thanks for that, I'd never thought of using an idler instead of a universal joint like that! Not sure how it could be steered, maybe attach an L shaped beam to the green bracket perhaps? How would those size gears stand up under the weight of a heavy model? Bit worried they would skip or break? (My previous model suffered from repeatedly shattering the gears inside the diff when it came to an incline)

    [MOC] Trebuchet

Hi, this is my first MOC to be posted online. I made a trebuchet, or in other words, a counterweight catapult. It's mainly built from 42055 BWE parts, with some from other sets, totaling somewhere in the neighbourhood of 1500-2000 pieces. It's fully functional in the sense that it actually fires projectiles. It was quite a satisfying to build, although there isn't really that much going on, mechanically or functionally. The firing mechanism is a simple axle that's drawn out to release the sling arm (held by two small turntables) and both firing and reloading are manual. It work's though, most of the time the "rocks" are flung at least few meters away, though accuracy is not stellar. It could probably be improved with other kind of ammunition (steel bearing balls or whatever) but I like to keep it all LEGO. This of course means that there's no way it could actually break any castle walls or anything, as bricks are much too lightweight to cause any damage. Some thoughts on possible improvements: It is a bit too lightweight, as releasing the arm causes the base to jump a bit. I don't have any more of the weighted pieces but something like them added to the base should help a lot. This is also why the base is so heavy with parts, I inserted mostly because I needed to lower the centre of gravity and make it overall heavier. The sling could be also probably better, to make more repeatable shots. Finally, the release mechanism could probably be improved too, maybe by having some gears connected to the turntables and drawing out one of them would release the arm. It could even be extended to a rewinding mechanism turned by a crank or even a motor, though it might require quite a bit of gear reduction for even an XL motor. First, no ammunition inserted, but otherwise ready to fire. Closeup of the sling, with BWE "stone" inserted. This was the most difficult part, I had to find an actual study which examined how to make a sling with capable of releasing the projectile at correct point during the firing sequence. And after firing. Hope you like it!

    Technic 2019 Set Discussion

Looking at the offroader, I think it uses 8 of the red shock absorbers, two per each arm. Each of those shock absorbers can support about 500 grams before it starts to retract. That means we can support a total weight of 4kg at one stud suspension travel. if the model weighs around 1 kilogram, we can calculate that we can expect around 4 studs of suspension travel from each wheel. I hope that the planetary gear drive uses rounded planetary gears which can also act like a CV joint receptacle, allowing for a pivot point near or inside the wheel.
  17. 42055, because I've built it 3 times from scratch and still struggle to get it to work properly. Same with 42009.

If you watch Just2Good's video you can see the doors have stickers on them, so sadly no new print The Clocktower coming with most of the Yule Ball characters is actually a really good thing. First of all, we'll probably get Fred and George next year alongside Neville, Luna and Ginny. And lego was bound to make these YB outfits sometime, and they would probably throw them in a future CMF if it weren't for this set. This gives us the chance of getting way more interesting characters when a second CMF comes around

  25. We are broadcasting today from the port town of Al Kuwem in southern Alsarh (D2). The President is here today to visit the latest vessel in the naval fleet. The TPV Fortune is a high tech sloop-of-war, with the latest technology including a new form of sonar location and UAV that can take off from the back for reconnaissance missions. Despite its small size it is well armed with a front mounted machine gun and torpedoes while biometric doors prevent the vessel being hijacked by pirates. It will be used to guard Alsarh's waters, escort other vessels and aim to proactively deal with the issue of the pirates in the Isle of Raz. http://IMG_20190426_110633223_HDR-01 by marvelBoy123, on Flickr Following the recent terrorist attacks in Bandaud and New Brickia as well as the threat of the WDS, there is a strong military presence at the event today in order to ensure the president's safety. Luckily the ship has been moored in a quiet, upmarket area or Al Kuwem. The buildings running alongside the docks are the Jeberah villa (residence of renowned automotive engineer Petrov Czarin) and a large storehouse owned by a small group of traders from Toohati. *Notes outside of news narrative - Al Kuwem is a trading town which was first found by merchants from Fulshako in the 15th century, who built a town inspired by the architecture of their home country. It was then ruled by Fulshako for a short time before being given back to Alsarh. Despite this it has kept its own culture, with traditional building styles from the Fulshako area and with its people following the Malsi religion. It is officially the special administrative region of Al Kuwem and is ruled by the Imam under the Alsarhian government.* http://WIP docks by marvelBoy123, on Flickr *Story outside of news narrative - The traders supposedly from Toohati would - under closer inspection - appear not to be traders or from Toohati. Though their property has a few crates of fish and spices within, it is actually the site of something far more sinister. There are five of them : two within the storage area one covering the window and the other the door, the third posing as a secretary has a full view across the street - watching for soldiers, the other two are concealed on the roof of the building - one with a sniper rifle at the ready waiting for the target to enter his sights* http://IMG_20190424_170500984_HDR-02 by marvelBoy123, on Flickr http://WIP2 by marvelBoy123, on Flickr And the president steps up onto the ship with his bodyguard... BANG! ...*The live broadcast following this is drowned out by screams and cries and the terrorists open fire on the crowd* http://IMG_20190424_170730487_HDR-01 by marvelBoy123, on Flickr http://IMG_20190424_170945600_HDR-01 by marvelBoy123, on Flickr *The following is later broadcast* We are thankful to say that our great president was not injured in todays attack in Al Kuwem, his bodyguard received a wound to the leg but is being treated in hospital and likely to make a full recovery. The situation was handled effectively with soldiers storming the building and eliminating the threat before any others could be injured. The culprits behind the attack are unknown with no attackers taken alive or terrorist organisations claiming responsibility. Though police and military are making enquiries the perpetrators remain unknown... http://The Docks 1 by marvelBoy123, on Flickr http://IMG_20190424_171403499_HDR-01 by marvelBoy123, on Flickr This is not yet finished - some pictures are missing and others will be replaced for clearer ones in the near future.
