  1. Here is my second field piece for the Battle of Wither Woods, the Dwarven Arrow Swarmer: Created by Mitgardian dwarves out of solid rock, this field piece can be very useful weapon against the enemy. Due to the various gears and mechanisms inside the Arrow Swarmer, all that is needed to fire it is to pull the lever (the dark gray piece). The pics showing how to build it are on my photostream (the bottom, and taken apart one and two). @Ska, I found that when attaching the wheels, the halfpins need to be attached first to the wheel, and then inserted into the other part. Game info: 1. The Dwarven Arrow Swarmer is an extremely strong weapon and cannot be destroyed except by exceptionally powerful blows. 2. For each volley there is a 3% possibility of the gears inside being messed up, in which case the weapon would be rendered useless. 3. The Swarmer is slower than the Repeating Catapult but only needs one soldier to operate. 4. The range is 100 to 120 studs, and it shoots four arrows per volley. 5. As it is made of rock, it is extremely heavy and needs at least 2 horses to be moved. 6. The Swarmer is a rather rare weapon, so there will probably be less than ten total on the battle field (either side, but again, most for Dugal). C&C are welcome
  2. Field Piece - Barqan Fire Wagon While the black oil of Kaliphlin are widely used for such peaceful tasks as lighting and heating, a more fearsome use is what is widely known as Barqan Fire (similar to historical Greek Fire). This is a kind of refined naphtha which has excellent properties for being pumped out of a nozzle, yet tends to stick to where it is poured. Barqan Fire is often used by Kaliphlin naval vessels to ignite enemy vessels. Not as common but sometimes seen are field artillery pieces (essentially shipboard weapons put on wagons) capable of spewing the Barqan Fire on the enemy. Not very easy to maneuver on the battlefield, but when positioned correctly these weapons can wreak havoc on tightly packed ranks of enemies. Operating these weapons is highly dangerous, so these wagons are always only manned by volunteers. Always. This weapon may be fielded by either side. Suggestion for game rules applying to the fire wagon (the numbers can of course be changed at will for balance purposes): Range somewhere between (30-50 studs) depending on how many soldiers are pumping (2 soldiers = 30 studs, 4 soldiers = 40 studs, 6 soldiers = 50 studs) Fire in the area hit by the stream will burn for a while and has a high probability of igniting other combustible materials. A soldier hit by the stream will burst into flames (I leave it to the game masters to decide damage effects and mechanics) Enough fuel for 10 long bursts (can be divided into more short bursts). Needs a soldier with a pilot torch lighting the stream of oil (no built-in pilot light). Needs a soldier directing the fire stream (can be the same as for rule 5) Minimum crew 3 soldiers: Two pumping, one directing the fire/lighting the fire stream (see rules 1, 5 and 6). There is a 5 % probability of the igniting soldier getting sprayed by the naphtha and burst into flames himself (effects according to rule 3). Probability increased to 20 % if the igniting soldier is also responsible of directing the flow of the fire. The naphtha will spill if the wagon is by a large projectile (not just an arrow) strong enough to break a barrel or directly hit by a weapon (the stronger the weapon and wielder, the higher the probability of breaking a barrel). The size of the spill will be determined by the damage by the projectile and the amount of fuel left. Each time the wagon fires (regardless of length of the burst), there is a 10 % chance of a small spill in a random direction from a leak somewhere in the pump system. See rule 11 if that spill is connected to fire. If the pilot torch or some other source of fire is within the spill area (or comes within the spill area before the vehicle can be moved away), the whole vehicle will burst into an explosive fire killing anyone within 16 studs radius and randomly torching everyone in the area outside those 16 studs for another 16 studs with falling probability up to zero at 32 studs radius. If hit by a fire projectile, explosion is immediate if that projectile is also strong enough to cause a spill regardless of the fire. If it is a weak fire projectile (like an arrow) the crew has a 50 % chance of extinguishing the fire caused by the projectile before the wagon explodes (provided there is no previous spill) Notes on the LDD build: In real bricks, the fire would be best to build with flame pieces connected with the small pegs (not a LDD legal technique it seems however) The round bricks of the directing hose may be put on a rigid 3 mm hose to give some ability to direct the fire stream. Any parts of the wooden carriage may be replaced with other parts in reddish brown/black colors to match available pieces. One or two horses may be connected at the back of the wagon to pull it longer distances. (the LDD horses without any printing were too ugly to use). Otherwise it is pulled by the soldiers manning it. I had planned putting a Barqan fire thrower on a GNAR ship, but I won’t have time to build a ship for GNAR so it ended up being a field artillery piece instead. fire wagon.lxf
  3. Here is one of the Field Pieces I have been working on for the LDD contest Mitgardian Repeating Catapult: Based off Archimedes' repeating automatic catapult designed to fire arrows like a machine gun, this catapult is a deadly device. Top view. It can also fire spears instead if needed, however it is not quite as fast since it needs to be loaded by hand each time. Unlike the arrows, which are shot out of a slit on the bottom (you will notice if you build it), the spears are shot off the top. Here is an assembly pic (@Ska, if you need more info on how to attach all the parts just let me know ) And a couple of notes for the game: 1. The catapult is an extremely reliable and sturdy weapon, though it can be destroyed if hit by a large projectile or attacked by the enemy. 2. It has a large range; killing distance is about 100 studs for the arrows and 85 for the spear. 3. The arrows are fired very rapidly (one at a time) until the magazines are empty, about 15 to 20 volleys. 4. The catapult requires one soldier to turn the windlass and another to refill the magazine (if needed the same one could do both, but it would reduce the speed). 5. If spears are being used, the speed is reduced since the spear needs to be hand loaded for each shot. 6. Rule 4 applies to the spear version as well, except that the time reduction if just one soldier is operating the catapult is greater. 7. One or two horses or 5 soldiers are required to move the catapult, so it will remain stationary for most of the battle. 8. There can be as many catapults on the field as wanted on either side, though they are mainly for Dugal's army. C&C are welcome
  4. (A small build squeezed in as a break from the Hold Fast... more pics on my flickr) The Yukar are a culturally sophisticated warrior society from the Southern Rakath Mountains. They are orcish in origin, but see little of common culture with many of the other orcish tribes they've encountered, let alone other Nocturnians. Displaced by the civil war in Nocturnus, they have become Nomadic and have recently been traveling West. In their travels across Kaliphlin, they have heard rumors of a battle brewing in the Wither Woods. Lacking any allies or sponsorship in any of the lands they've been crossing, a contingent of the Yukar, led by a warchief called Hataman, leaves the main Yukar caravan with a number of his closest retainers. UoP Credits Claimed: Trade and Law: Caravan Anthropology: Tribal Scene Geography: Desert (disregard) Minifig Posing. Pictured: Hataman, warchief of the Yukar, and his favorite drake Ainu. Pictured: Yukar warband traveling on an old road. Hataman hopes that fighting for Petera will earn his people important allies and status in Historica. Meanwhile, the caravan his men left behind is searching for some small parcel of land where they can start over. There was talk of swinging north to Mitgardia, but it is Hataman's hope that this will be unnecessary as his people are not accustomed to cold climates. If the war goes well for him, he may be able to buy or fight his way into lands more friendly to the Yukar lifestyle. Pictured: Yukar supply wagon carrying food, water, and arms. Yukar bladesmiths practice traditions that are centuries old and few outsiders have ever seen or handled a Yukar sword. Hataman managed to have a number made for his campaign, which he plans to offer to Petera as a tribute and symbolic token of the value of the Yukar to any new alliances forged in the aftermath of the War of the Brothers. To ensure that they are not taken for bandits or common mercenaries, the Yukar flies the Nocturnus colors alongside their own standard. Pictured: Another angle of the Yukar march. Emphasis on Nocturnus banner and Yukar standard carried by Hataman's standard-bearer, Atlak.
  5. Floating Tower The ground started to shake, green lightning springs upon two wielding staffs. The druid, Lynrem, casts a spell pulling a tree from its soil and taking it for a journey to the battle fields. Tree, roots, the surrounding wall and the offensive soldiers behind that wall all float to the front line, where the bloodshed is about to start. If you need detailed shots of the structure, please PM me...
  6. Foldable Ballista Together with the small legion, Nar’Bilu arranges for a foldable ballista. The device is easy to transport and perfect to handle within dense forests as well as on the open field. Only two men are necessary to operate it.

    (WoTB) Ogre Mount

As the fellowship from Burnby was heading south to Kaliphlin, the encountered a band of goblins. The goblins had learned to domesticate the ogres that lived in the caves they inhabited, and use them for war. At first the goblins attacked, but after the group told them of their quest, they talked it over and decided that there would probably be loot. Always hungry for gold, the agreed to send one of their ogres, a handler, and an archer along. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is my field piece entry for the War of the Brothers. Here's some basic instructions:
