  1. Here is my review on LEGO The Hobbit 79016 Attack on Lake-town: THE GOOD: 5 x great minifigures! Interesting use of parts/elements for the door handle on the first level. THE NOT SO GOOD: It looks empty in today's standard. The swinging barrel while is cool, it can't knock minifigures off the dock. After 9 years in the backlog, I finally decided to open and build this. Although I had a good building experience, I must admit the end result is somewhat simple compared to today's standard. It's fun play set with lots of space to place minifigures but could have added one or two interior details. Having said that, the door handle has a very interesting used of parts. With 3 action features, this is still primary a play set. I only realised this theme or 2014 introduced the spring load shooter, while the crossbow is huge, it lacks angle adjustment. Same with the the barrel as it cannot knock off any minifigures. The minifigures are great though with very detailed print. And having 5 minifigures in set of this size is very generous. I'm also glad none of the brown pieces break given this has been in storage since I bought it. Will I recommend this? Well if you are a fan of this theme then yes but the current after market price for new one is pretty steep, so only when you find a reasonable one. Having said that, this set has no stickers, so you may just be able to build your own with spare parts unless you are after the minifigures.

[MOC] Gandalf and Thorin at Bree

This is a remake of a very old MOC of mine, and one of my favorite scenes from the Appendices of LOTR. The original MOC was absolutely horrendous so I will not link it here. If you care to dig through my MOCPages folders, feel free to suffer! Thorin tells Gandalf of his plans to reclaim the Lonely Mountain (Erebor) and Gandalf offers to find the 14th member of the company. This is based on my own interpretation of the scene in the book, as well as a painting by Ted Nasmith, rather than the scene from the movie. I tried out some new techniques and styles here and I tried to put in as much detail as I could. Overall I'm rather happy with the results. I appreciate all comments and constructive criticisms!
  3. Updating an old post. All items are MISB and prices have been taken from Bricklink. Price does not include shipping. HOWEVER, for those buyers who are willing to allow me to unbox the sets so that shipping is not nearly so expensive (I'm not a professional seller, it's impossible to ship the large sets for cheap) - I would be very happy to discount the price to reflect that they are no longer MISB, but complete. Also willing to negotiate for those looking to purchase multiple items. For Sale: 10237 Tower of Orthanc $229.00 79031 Lake Town Chase $69.99 10211 Modular Grand Emporium $250.00 10217 Harry Potter Diagon Alley $350.00 10193 Medieval Market Village $165.00 Elves: 41071 Aira's Creative Workshop $11.00 41072 Nadia's Spa Secret $50.00 40173: Nadia's Epic Adventure Ship $23.00 41074: Azari and Magical Bakery $45.00 41075: The Elve's treetop hideaway $49.99 41076: Farran and the Crystal Hollow $11.00 41052 Ariel's Magical Kiss $40.00 Not everything I have to sell, but what I'd like to start with.
  4. This moc took me 8 hours to build and has 382 parts. I built this thinking "Wow, this is a scary dragon!" I don't know how well that image came out in my model but if I saw this dragon flying towards me I would run! I would love to know what I can do better next time and what you liked about it. Building instructions are available for extremely cheap for this size and scale! The parts list is in the ebay ad. 5. Hi all! I've always wished that the small legs for the Hobbit minifigures had been printed to look like they had bare feet, like they appear in the Lego LOTR/Hobbit video games. I recently stumbled on Citizen Brick, which does custom printing on Lego pieces, and I started toying with the idea of buying a batch of small legs and having hobbit feet printed on them. Unfortunately, the smallest orders that Citizen Brick will take are 200 pieces, and the starting price is $400 . . . well beyond my budget. I thought I'd check in with you, the community, to see whether or not there is enough interest for a group of us to pool resources and get some mini Hobbit legs printed without breaking anyone's piggie bank. Sound off in the comments below if you're interested.

    Rhosgobel

Home to Radagast the Brown wizard, this house was featured briefly in the film "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey". Only the front facade was view-able from the movie, the rest of the creation has been made up based on fan art and whatever I felt worked. With an estimated 20-25,000 bricks and a footprint of a 77cm square, this is by far my largest creation to date, and one of the most complex at that. I have previously built a rendition of the house, but much smaller, only the front facade and without the surrounding landscape, and I've always wished I had done a better job at it, so when I saw the opportunity to do it justice, I decided to go all out with it! This was built for and sponsored by The Christchurch Brick Show 2016, but will be displayed around New Zealand for the next year or so, until it hopefully finds a permanent home (It's too big to fit in my room... too big to fit through the door for that matter!) Some of the challenges I faced with this was the conflicting time with my (very intense) architecture studies, and creating it modular so that I could transport it... just making the house was a headache enough in itself! Check out my Facebook page for more of my creations or to get in touch, and my Flickr for the high resolution images! Hope you enjoy! David

    [MOC] Hobbit Hole

Hello Eurobricks friends, After an amazing trip to New Zealand this past June, I felt determined to construct my own "Hobbit Hole" in LEGO. While this particular build is not based on any of the 44 hobbit holes that were built in Matamata for the filming of "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" films in particular, I instead drew from inspiration from many of the various homes to design my own little hobbit hole. Enjoy! LEGO Hobbit Hole by Evan Ridpath, on Flickr LEGO Hobbit Hole by Evan Ridpath, on Flickr

    [MOC] Barrels Out of Bond

I started building this back in March, if you can believe it, but a move, time-consuming techniques, lack of pieces, and simply being occupied with other stuff (including other builds) have taken it's completion until now. Nonetheless, I really like how it turned out and am excited to hear what you guys think!

    Smaug the Terrible

Smaug the Terrible by Chris Yee, on Flickr Smaug the Terrible, Chiefest of Calamities and the one of the main antagonists in "The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug". With the many references available, I had chosen to focus heavily on the facial features to capture the menacing personality of the fire drake. The creation had taken about 6 months of planning, purchasing and research followed by 200+ hours of production building with over 10,000 parts (excluding the gold pile), ready for the Christchurch Brick Show 2016, held over the 16-17 July weekend. This was my first foray into organic building using bricks as I've been working with Bionicle and Technic based systems for many years, so this end result I am quite pleased with. Initially Smaug was to stand about 70cm in height, 60cm in length and about 40cm wide. Due to a structural deficiency in the neck construction (the night before the show setup, I might add), the majority of the neck was cast aside to have the head and first few neck segments laying atop of my entire collection of gold elements, which took up 2x 2 litre containers. Many thanks to Legonardo for helping replenish my gold stores, WIP feedback, and for the great photo of the creation. Smaug is currently on its way to Wellington where it will be displayed in other various exhibits and events in the months to come. Enjoy Chris
  12. Hey everyone, I was pretty excited about the announcement of the BrickHeadz line for 2017 and I like the superhero figures that were revealed for the SDCC. So I thought about what other characters I would enjoy being released as BrickHeadz and the dwarves from The Hobbit immediately came to mind. I started figuring out the basic design and dimensions of the figures TLG has shown so far and built Balin as my first attempt at this building in this Chibi style. I quickly rendered the model for now, but once I have refined the MOC and checked the availability of the parts used I'll place some Bricklink orders and build it for real. *Edit*: Pictures of the brickbuilt model in the fourth post. *Edit* Anyway, here are some pictures! I'd love to get some feedback from you.
  13. Built this for Round 1 of the 2016 Middle Earth LEGO Olympics over on MOCpages.
  14. We were leaderless, defeat and death were upon us. That is when I saw him; the young dwarf prince facing down the Pale Orc. He stood alone against this terrible foe, his armour rent, wielding nothing but an oaken branch as a shield... I always liked the tale of how Thorin became known as the Oakenshield, and in the first The Hobbit movie this is detailed rather beautiful, so I sat down to make a small vignette to represent the scene. In it, Azog pounds on him, Thorin defending himself with an oaken branch as a shield before picking up a sword and severing the hand of the large pale orc. To that end, I tried to pay attention to the small detail of not using Azog as he comes in the sets, but to make sure he has his left hand still. I tried to have the branch look as in the movie for Thorin, looking more like a piece of bark then an actual branch there, and to represent `armoured but not king yet` Thorin, I went for his Battle of the Five Armies body with the hair from the The Hobbit wave 1 series instead of the crowned one, giving him a more armoured look. Hope you like it :-) it was a nice break from a lot of sorting and `plate preparing` I seem to have been doing recently...

  16. Hi all, modified the Lego cave troll into the 3 Entenmoor trolls from Hobbit. They are based roughly on the movie depiction of Tom, Bert and William.
  17. Hi everyone, I want to show you my Hobbit Showdown at Ravenhill project. You can support it on lego ideas. ;-) This project is about the final fights at Ravenhill from The Hobbit - The Battle of five Armies. Legolas fights against Bolg, and Thorin Oakenshield fights against Azog the Defiler. Thorin stands on the edge of a frozen river. A frozen water fall leads into an abyss. Legolas uses his bow from a tower, to help Thorin against the orcs. Please klick on the images to see the lager version. You can see more images of this project (and my other projects) on my flickr page. Legolas had no more arrows, so he has to find a way onto the other side. He uses a troll to crush into the tower and that builds a bridge. But on the other side stands Bolg. So they have to fight on the tower(bridge). ;-) Bolg destroys the tower with his mace. More and more stones are falling down. An orc falls on the bridge and tears Bolg with him. Legolas saves Thorins life by throwing Orcrist into an orc. Bolg has returned and fights against Legolas. The tower collapses and Legolas has to be quick to reach the cliff. Now Thorin has to fight against Azog on an ice floe. Thorin outwits him and Azog falls into the water. Is Azog really defeated? Functions: the tower falls down the water fall, the tower and the ramp are connected with dowels the tower could collapse the ice floe is rotatable you could plug Azog or any other minifigure underneath the ice floe This project includes: 954 pieces Thorin Oakenshield with sword and Orcrist Azog the Defiler with a stone block on a chain Legolas with bow and 2 knives Bolg with a mace 2 Gundabad orcs with swords 1 troll @all viewers: Now it's up to you. 19. Hi everyone, First big try with a licenced theme - I wanted to recreate a famous scene from The Hobbit, the awakening of Smaug : It was created to be displayed in 2 Lego events in France, I wanted to show a much more frightening dragon than the official one (and slightly bigger ^^) Hardest part of the build was to deal with the weight and orientation of the neck and head. Bad day for Bilbo : Details for the dragon's head (maybe some improvements will be done for the eyes) : The shape of the head is maybe not very movie-accurate but it was recognized by the audience, that was enough for me A last pic, with a look at the dragon's mouth : Hope you'll like it
  20. Hi Everyone, I recently posted my massive Rivendell Moc on the LEGO Ideas page after downsizing it. I have updated the project with 7 different buildings from the display totaling 2800 pieces. I'm hoping that maybe one, two, or several of the builds gets approval since 2800 is still a lot of pieces. This project consists of: -Feasting Hall & Watch Tower- approx. 701 pieces -Library- approx. 784 pieces -Elrond's Study- approx. 272 pieces -White Council- approx. 44 pieces -Bridge Building- approx. 200 pieces -Gazebo- approx. 36 pieces -Entrance Tower- approx. 299 pieces -Platform- approx. 196 pieces -Bridge- approx. 63 pieces -Moon Rune- approx. 89 pieces -Tree- approx. 47 pieces -Entire Set with minifigs and accessories- approx. 2800 pieces Rivendell is such an iconic scene that deserves more than the 243 piece set we got 2 years ago. Any feedback is appreciated and thanks for supporting. The Lego Ideas page here https://ideas.lego.com/projects/91654 More high res pics of Rivendell here https://www.flickr.c.../127491317@N08/
  21. My 2nd Entry for the 2014-2015 Middle Earth Lego Olympics. The theme for this Round was The Hobbit characters and for my category I was given Gandalf. Gandalf the Grey, later known as Gandalf the White, also known as Mithrandir (Sindarin-"White Pilgrim" or "Gray Wanderer"), was a wizard, or Istar, sent by the West in the Third Age to combat the threat of Sauron. He joined Thorin and his company to reclaim Erebor from the dragon Smaug. For this entry I decided to build a brick built figure of Gandalf, trying to go out of my comfort zone, as I have never done brick built figures before. In this build I was attempting to portray Gandalfs and Bilbos meeting at the start of the The Hobbit film an Unexpected Journey. During there time together Bilbo spoke to Gandlaf "Good Morning" and Gandalf replied; "What do you mean?" he said. "Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?" "All of them at once," said Bilbo. I wanted to portray a scene which identifies a concept of Gandalfs personality, even though he is down to earth and tolerant about serious situations, Gandalf still has a great sense of humor and creates some brilliant comic relief within the books and films. Hope you guys enjoy :)
  22. This is my new project for lego idas. This project includes the modular watchtower, 6 minifigure and 2 animals: Bolg with armor and his mace 2 Orcs with armor, helmet and sword Bilbo Baggins with a glowing blue sting Fili with sword Kili with sword Tauriel with 2 daggers a great eagle a giant bat I think, I made the giant bat as good as possible. You could rotate the wings in 360°! This projects has a little bit more than 700 pieces. Join your Ravenhill with other Ravenhills of your friends and you will have a really nice dwarven castle. To see more images, please follow the link to my flickr page. Please support and share my project. Thank you for your attention.
  23. Hello everybody! I'm not a very active member but I would like to share my current Lego project with you. It is a slowly growing layout of Hobbiton. It all started with Bag End. I was very satisfied with this so I tried to keep it going and have started to turn this one Hobbithole into a layout. So now it look like this \ It is not my goal to recreate the entire film set but it does look like it. I am now in the process of deciding where to go with these two roads. Probably they will meet somewhere on the left and then continue as one road that crosses the Bywater Bridge. This bridge has the Sandyman's Mill on one side and The Green Dragon on the other. So I will have to build them as well. Hope you like it and let me know what you think! ps, there are no interiors Check out more on my brickshelf.
  24. Aren't you going to search me? I could have anything down my trousers... (Bilbo is wearing the ring, so isn't absent from the scene! ) (But just so I don't get disqualified, he took it off for a quick shot ) Sorry for the poor photo quality, I forgot about the contest, and literally took the pics now, at around 9:00 pm, so light was NOT good to say the least... I took a couple of shots, and just before posting realized that Bilbo had to be in the scene, so he is now! Unfortunately I couldn't locate his head at this moment, so he borrowed Sam's. (A few) more photos available on my flickr. Feel free to add feedback, although I can't exactly change anything...
