TECHNIC THEME PARK CONTEST The last couple of years TLG has released several theme park rides in the Creator Expert theme. Recently, even a big rollercoaster has been released. We have seen some cool Technic creations in the past and there's even a very cool one being built in the Technic forum right now. So, why not have a Technic Theme Park Contest? DESCRIPTION Build a Theme Park Ride! The ride needs to be operable, so it needs to be a working ride. Functions can be operated manually or motorized. Motorization isn't mandatory. It can also be a combination of manual and motorized functions. You can use any official LEGO motor or electronics you can find, including Mindstorms. SBrick, Buwizz, PFx Bricks and custom LED solutions ARE permitted too. No sculpting, cutting or gluing pieces and no other 3rd party parts (besided electronics and the usual strings, hoses and bands). There is some difference between theme parks, amusement parks and fairgrounds, but for this contest the difference doesn't matter. You can build any ride, but we will use the term Theme Park for this contest. It doesn't even have to be an existing ride. You can come up with your own ride! However, this contest is about the ride, so NO trucks or trailers, just the ride. Of course, you can include Minifigs and use System parts (Modelbuilder style) to decorate the ride. DEADLINE Deadline date is Monday 3rd of September, 2018. Contest will be closed on Tuesday 4th of September, OR LATER. Disclaimer: I will close the contest when I see fit and when I have the time to process the results. This can be later than the deadline date. Please don't complain about this not being fair and all. RULES AND REGULATIONS The following section describes the contest specific and general rules and regulations. But before that, please take notice of a simple motto regarding the Eurobricks Contests: CONTESTS ARE FOR FUN! Of course there's competition, but at the end of the day, LEGO is just a hobby and the main goal for each of us is to have fun! CONTEST SPECIFIC RULES AND REGULATIONS Each entry needs to have a name (no name, no entry). Building/including a truck or trailer for the ride is not permitted. Including Minifigs is permitted. Model Team style building is permitted. Mindstorms, SBrick, Buwizz, PFx Brick and third party custom LED solutions are permitted. 3rd party Strings, Hoses and Rubber Bands are permitted. 3rd party tires are not permitted. Other 3rd party parts, besides electronics, are not permitted. There is no size limit. You can use non-LEGO elements for containing and/or transferring/transporting water GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS The contest is open to all EB members (also new members). Members who joined EB after the start of the contest can be banned from voting (when vote rigging is suspected). Voting rules will be explained later in the voting topic. One entry per member. Entries need to be new (never posted anywhere previously or shown at an event/LUG meeting). Only physical builds, so no LDD or other virtual entry. If you have any doubts about the suitability of your entry contact me, or Milan. All entries are to include only real LEGO. No clone brands, 3rd party parts, or digital entries allowed. Custom stickers are allowed. No cutting, sculpting or modifying parts. Entries are to be placed in the entry topic in this forum. Entries not in the entry topic are not eligible for voting. The entry post may be edited at any time up to the end of the contest, so feel free to make improvements if you wish. The contest might be closed later than the deadline. Don't complain about this not being fair. You have enough time to build. Don't ask for more time. We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that does not follow these rules. A discussion topic needs to show some actual progress (i.e. pictures of the build in progress) and should NOT be used to "reserve an idea". VOTING Voting scheme will be 50-50, so member votes count for 50% and jury votes count for 50%. Voting criteria are (in no particular order): Originality. Looks (shape, color scheme etc). [TC14] Trabant Amusement Ride

Ok, So I am in the midst of building the Rough Terrain Crane (RTC) and just got done building the mega turntable with roller bearings. I don’t think I will be entering the TC14 contest, but my mind will not let go of how easy a Trabant ride would be to build using this mega turntable as the platform for the undercarriage. The parts for the RTC lend themselves to building the lift mechanism, and If I can do it with a single L motor driving the whole contraption, I think it would be a decent entry. Just don’t know if I will have the time to get it done for the contest and focus on making it fit the rules, or just build it like I did my Twirl and Hurl, as a flagship MOC. Either way, it will be my next MOC and this thread will be where I post my updates. Stay tuned for more amusement ride fun... -

[TC14] The Zapper - FINISHED! - More information added!

After 2 months of work, I can finally present to you, The Zapper! This MOC was quite a challenge to build, not only because it's the biggest thing I've ever built, but because of the numerous design changes that I made while I was building it (most of which you can see in my posts below). I'm just glad I managed to finish it before the deadline, otherwise who knows how many more design changes I would have made... Video: Quick stats: Height (to top of support structure): 30 studs (24cm / 9.45") Width: 32 studs (25.6cm / 10") Depth: 34.5 studs (27.6cm / 10.86") Weight (with batteries and passengers): 1968g Now, you may look at those numbers and think that they're just measurements, but while that is true, there's also quite an amazing coincidence among them... You see, as I was typing it out, I realized that written as grams, the weight was a year - not just any year, but the EXACT year that the original Zipper (which is what The Zapper is based on) was first invented! Unbelievable, I know, but I can assure you that is the exact weight. Hey all, This is a recreation/expansion of a ride i once went on in my youth, now i cannot find any videos or images online about this kind of attraction, maybe someone else can, but i can very well imagine these things are banned, it kind of lacks a fail safe on a power outage , my version would never pass any inspection i guess, if people would even dare to try... Here is the idea: a spinning drum that presses the people that ride it into the back wall by centrifugal force, there is nothing to hold you in place, except for a dimple in the back wall in the form of a person and a small chain in front of it (which really does nothing except closing your position). after reaching enough speed, the entire drum starts to tilt on a swing arm to vertical position, that is what the ride i went on in my youth did, i will expand on that and try to make the drum go into (near) inverted horizontal position by swing the arm further. For now i have only built a proof of concept, nothing pretty yet, but i had to know if it was doable before presenting anything, i think the test went ok considering the fact it is not 100% built balanced due to colors and minor build variations, as long as you do not move the swing-arm to violently (gyroscopic effect kicks in) the whole runs pretty stable and works well, even upside down keeping the figures in place by centrifugal force until you slow down the drum. (the last heroic figure hung by its feet..lucky bastard! can't have that! redesign needed!) I am convinced i can make the spinning drum work with at least 8, but i am hoping for 16 Technic figures, a total rebuild of the proof of concept will be done later, now i will be focusing on the last big mechanical issue, actually moving the swing-arm, this thing is pretty heavy, and with a spinning drum on it, forces are pretty big and it will have to move slow, so the gyroscopic effect does not destabilize it, very likely i will be using more of the big gear racks to make the arm move, but first i might try to do it directly from turntables mounted in the base of the arm. Let me know what you think! and if anyone knows a video about a similar type of ride i would love to get a link! -
[TC14] The Zipper (8 pods)

For this contest I'm building a ride inspired by The Zipper: Here is my current progress: I started with the rotating arm to get a feel for size and weight. Currently there is a lot of sagging on the chains, I tried to build in a tensioner with springs, but I do not know if it will be strong enough in the end. Also the driving wheels for the chains rely purely on friction, this might be to weak as well. I have an alternative in mind, but first I will create all pods to see what happens with all weight attached. More to come... -
[TC14] Gyroscope

I thought I might try to replicate this ride design for this contest. The ride consists of 3 spinning 'rings' with the riders attached to the innermost ring, and the ride rotates them around 3 axes. Some functions I want to include in the ride: Independent motorised control of each spinning ring. All motors external to ride, using a Mindstorms EV3 controlled system. Whole ride raises and lowers to allow riders to get on and off (like in the video) As I want all the motors to be external to the ride (having motors attached to the rings will cause wire entanglement issues) I have to somehow transfer power through the rings to spin the inner ones. Here's a diagram showing how the power will be transferred to spin up the inner rings. Red line is power transmission. Some pictures of the middle (green) ring and a basic mounting frame (not final). Black axle is input and tan axle is output.
