REE Models CIWL Baggage Car for 21334

I've completed my design for a Baggage Car to complete the Orient Express train into a full train set. I used a similar design that has been paired with coaches like these in a model train pack by REE models. Some quirks of the reference model are the angled doors at the ends of the coach with their own steps, represented by inverted and round plates in my model. The Door Portals are carried over from the standard coaches, using the grilled fence piece to represent a ladder that shows on the models. There's also a view box at the front of the coach. I haven't quite figured out what the interior of one of these looks like, so for now it's just a shell. In the consist, the Baggage Car is shorter than the rest of the coaches, and with a 6-wheel base there were some fun challenges to overcome. To keep the ladders static, the turntables salvaged from the standard coach now are used to let the buffers and connector pivot. The outer wheelsets are on a pivot, which are necessary for anything below R72, but are not required for R72 and larger. The middle wheelset is using the same sliding mechanism as the Tender, which is necessary for any Radii. On the left side, doors are embedded into the side of the coach 1/4 plate. The right side has two sliding doors, that I would like to get stickers made for, using a clear piece like the CE HE carriage doors. More pictures and some WIP Pictures can be found in this album on my Flickr.
  2. Back in the day, whilst flying you could get a real turkey carved right in front of you, stretch your legs without bothering your neighbor in front of you, and take whatever you wanted on board with you... peanut butter, toothpaste, shampoo, you name it! Need the smoking section? The whole freaking plane was the smoking section! Of course, tower radar wasn't really a thing (cockpit radar was a long way off too), flight instruments were crude, and inflight entertainment was either out your window, napping, or reading whatever book you brought with you. Crashes were also common with survivability rates poor, and there was no GPS to guide your pilot on his way.... but they did have paper maps, gut instinct, a lot of know-how and nerves of steel. (a quick silent prayer couldn't hurt either) So, buckle those seatbelts (if your plane has any!) and steady those pre-flight jitters - we're taking off! This 1936-designed Douglas Aircraft Company DC-3 was very heavily modified from limited edition Indiana Jones set 7628 (Peril in Peru, from the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull film) and my own imagination. I redesigned the passenger cabin of the DC-3 to not have any pesky stickers as in the 2008 set. Sadly, the airplane's opening door has been removed as a consequence of redesigning the airframe. The colors are based off Trans-World Airlines (otherwise known as TWA) back in the immediately post-WWII period. It's not a perfect match for the paint scheme, but it doesn't use stickers, so I'm happy. The rear of the plane. Originally I wanted to build this airplane in green for Ozark Air Lines, but limited green wedge part availability killed that idea. (Ozark was headquartered at my local major airfield - St. Louis' Lambert Airport, from the early '50's until when they merged with TWA in 1986) The two front landing gear fold up. The roof of both cabin and cockpit come off to seat six passengers and one pilot figure. Thoughts? EDIT 7/14/23: Main post updated, model finished!
  3. I just bought the Zurg Battle (set 76831) recently. I didn't like the legs, as the look from Toy Story 2 / Buzz Lightyear of Star Command design for Emperor Zurg was (in my honest opinion) much better and more iconic. Here we see the finished model. Zurg has an orange 2 x 2 "boat stud" in trans-orange on the bottom for his rocket pod feet that you can't see in this shot. "...and then a little mini-fig shouted 'He's got no pants on!' Emperor Zurg suddenly realized the tiny mini-fig was right, and than the he has been tricked by Buzz Lightyear. So, Zurg re-atomized the poor fig into a compressed cylindrical pile of ash with his finger laser and declared it "No Pants for Emperor's Day." This is the ending scene from "Emperor Zurg's New Clothes", a popular bed time story for children on Planet Z. (As far as we know, no minifigs were actually re-atomized making this shot.) In actuality, this is a behind-the-scenes look at how Zurg is assembled. All the parts needed to remake the legged Zurg from Lightyear into Emperor Zurg with skirt as seen in Toy Story 2*. (NOTE: The old-style round 2x2 Light bluish gray tile should have the printed "Z" Zurg logo from 2010's Construct-A-Zurg.) *TS2-film accurate Ion Blaster not included, as I couldn't figure out a design for the tri-barrel that was in scale. The purple cheese slopes and printed tile go above the wheel arch used on the front of Zurg, while the extra 2x2 plate round goes where the Mixel ball-joint connectors went as the original hips. You can download the free LDD file for the skirt model in completed form here from Bricksafe. (Side note: If you thought I said "Zurg" a lot in this post, you're right: I said it twelve times including this last one!) Enjoy the MOD, and comments, questions, and complaints welcome!

    toastergrl's Classic Space Fleet

Hi, denizens of the Sci-Fi forum! Despite being like 30 years too young, Classic Space is definitely one of my favourite themes. I don't want to just pick up the old stuff, though (that'd definitely get expensive) - I want the experience of making my own MOCs and set mods to fit within the ecosystem. To that end, I've finally managed to take a bunch of pictures to show off my stuff. What helped kickstart this stuff was the sheer cheapness and easy availability of 70841-1 Benny's Space Squad, of which I am barely restraining myself from getting multiple copies of. From there, it was an easy leap to 70821-1 Emmett and Benny's Build & Fix Workshop and its Space Cruiser build. I did end up picking the Ideas Exo Suit, but had a few issues with it - it was way too neoclassic for me. I can understand that greebles are of interest to some people, but that level of overdetail is not for me. To that, end, I decided to make my own, classic-style Exo Suit. From there, the rest of this spiralled outwards and upwards to greater and greater heights. Utilising the Mixels ball joint system, my classic-ised Exo Suit is remarkably stable and sturdy, and I think I managed to approximate the studs-exposed, detail-less style of the original sets quite well without having any vintage design to base it on, whilst maintaining some visual continuity with the bulky, large-armed shape of Peter Reid's design. In homage to the original Exo Suit, I think this pilot's name is Yvenny. (Sorry, Pete - your name can't be enny-ised while remaining recognisable!) I've lifted her helmet up a little bit to try and make it look like the classic helmet without having a green version of that part available. Maybe eventually... The Traffic Control building on the right, however, is both more and less original at the same time. While I built it entirely out of parts I had on-hand without adhering to any instructions, the design has ended up quite similar to the space shed packed in with the original Galaxy Explorer. I would have liked to include a Classic Space logo print part, but the dang Benny BrickHeadz is way too expensive now. Oh well... Just a little showing off on how good those ball joint parts on the Exo Suit are. It can hold the space cruiser from 70821-1 Emmett and Benny's Build & Fix Workshop above its head without any external support! (It looks like the antenna on its back is providing some of the support, but I promise you that no weight is on it and it's just a clearance thing!) Benny, of course, is mortified. "Don't drop Jenny and my sibling!" he cries out. Yvenny's doing too good a job to care, though. This goliath is definitely the centerpiece of my collection. I really liked 70816-1 Benny's Spaceship Spaceship SPACESHIP!, but had some qualms with the more ostentatious elements of the design like the flickfire winglets, the rounded nosecone, the Technic missile housings and the excessive greebling across the board. I've made a few customisations to help make it fit in with a simpler-looking crowd! One of my chief missions with the simplification of this thing was to reduce its reliance on Dark Bluish Grey/Dark Stone Grey parts, since that was a big distractor. While I haven't been able to find replacement parts for the underside or the big octagonal plate, things are a LOT cleaner now and I'm much happier for it. You'll also notice I didn't apply any stickers. (Well, that's not quite true - I did apply the computer screen stickers and reactor core stickers on the inside, but I don't have a consistent enough lighting setup to get good shots where they'd be visible.) The way I see it, adding stickers just means a way I can mess this up. I don't have the steadiest hands, and this thing is way too good for that kind of treatment. I named this the "Galaxy Spearhead" in homage to both the Galactic Spearhead and the Galaxy Explorer, two LEGO builds I'm not likely to ever have my own versions of. As much as I like LEGO, it would be irresponsible to have it take over my budget like that... To top it off, a group shot of one of each of the true-classic minifigs I have, plus another angle of the Exo Suit! More pics are available at my Flickr! That's all I have for now, but maybe I'll have more to share later. Thanks for taking a look! ^u^ ---------------------------------------------------- Update #1 - Star Hopper, Transport Buggy, and Mobile Exploration Rover Update #2 - Proto Light Hover, Rocket Launch Trailer, Stellar Comet, and crowd scene
  5. A relatively rare high-altitude gunboat, the S&K K-90 was designed for law enforcement. One has found its way into the leathery hands of a Neimodian Hal Datta clan pilot. It has not been externally modified. More pictures >>> https://www.flickr.com/photos/114035403@N02/sets/72157649391483337/
