[MOC] Ionos Sports Sedan (Free Instructions)

Finished MOC at rebrickable.com for both AWD and RWD. My employment can often be intense during the fall, and this past fall was no exception. After an intense period, I turned to LEGO to rest well over the holidays. I wanted to start a comprehensive project during this time to let my mind wander down a creative outlet. I seem to cycle through tractors, cars, and Unimogs, so this time I was ready to try another car. I am a proponent of the sports sedan, in life and in builds, so that was an easy decision. It has been some time since I have built a 1:10 car, and since then the new 42110 wheels are now available. This would be a center feature of the build to see if I could take advantage of the new offset in both suspension and steering. I hope the blue sports sedan will look somewhat sporty, but not like the current BMW faux sporty. When I build I always set the dimensions first, based on the wanted features. The car will be 50-52 studs long with a 33 stud wheelbase. Body width is 23 studs, with a fender width of 25 at the front and 27 studs at the rear. "System Builds" have become a recent theme of my builds in that a center build can easily accommodate changes or additions easily. I wanted this to be the central theme of the sedan; more than a modular build the system will allow for flexibility and interchangeability. Thus, there are two categories of features to the sedan. System Modules Transmission/Rear Suspension Front Suspension/Steering Engines Floorpan Unibody Seats Doors/Hood/Trunk Features (Options) Independent Suspension Steering: HOG/Wheel Working Fake Motor (V8, I6, F6, Hybrid) Working Transmission (4S Manual, 4S Sequential) (RWD/AWD) Removable Body Seating for Four Opening Hood, Trunk, Doors After setting some hard points, I had a general idea. I had hoped that I could have a front suspension module and a rear suspension module, but already at the above stage, it was becoming clear that separating the transmission from the rear suspension would result in too many structural compromises. Above you can see the general idea for the front suspension "bathtub" that will connect to the rear suspension/transmission module. The engine will drop in, and the lock in between the two modules. The HOG is placed above the dashboard with steering controls traveling under the engine. This bathtub will hold a V-8, an I-4, and an I-6. I very much want to have the I-6 engine be part of the final build, but it is causing a lot of problems. It's just soooooo long. In fact it and the supporting structure come within 2 studs of the front of the car. I may have to go all Audi, and change it to a I-5 which may be just the right amount of weird. Above you can see, generally, how it will come together. This version includes the sequential transmission module, and the AWD front module. The AWD module is the hybrid version. This "bathtub" is locked in that the engine is chosen for you: you get the Flat 6 engine with two fake electric motors, one for each side of the front axle, that function as an electric assist. More is coming... Next I'll work on the structural floorpan, and a unibody that will drop on to all modules and give additional structural support. My builds are taking too long these days, so I am going to put a due day of May 22, 2021 for this project. Maybe that will incentivize it's timely completion. -
I built the first version of AE86 in 2012. Since that time, many new parts have been made. It is the time to improve my first version. I hope you will like it. Over the past couple of months, I have very much enjoyed many of the build threads that have taken place on Eurobricks. Of note was the excellent Hammerhead thread by @Didumos69 where the build kept improving in no small part because of the feedback given by so many. In this same vein, I wanted to embark on a less ambitious project. I'll try to update as often as I can. The project is a manual sports sedan in mid-scale. Features (at this point, in order of priority): Four wheel independent suspension Rear Wheel Drive Steering (Steering Wheel, HOG) Four Doors Flat 6 Opening Bonnet Opening Trunk Toddler Safe Transmission Current Progress Basically, the dimensions are set, and the suspension will not change much. Now I'm working on a transmission, which I have not decided if it will include. A manual gearbox puts the shifter a little too high for the scale, and this sequential will fit, but the changeover location is not great, either forward or rear. I'll update this again tonight, and see what I can figure out. -
I recently received the CREATOR set "Corner Deli" (31050), and I decided it needed an upgrade to better fit my Town's standards. I added a third level and rear walls to all the models' floors. I added a desk for the private eye whose office is on the top floor, plus inside and outside seating on the street level for patrons of the deli. Unfortunately, my creative juices ran out by way of the second floor furniture, so it is sadly empty. The rear of the building features exposed brickwork in places giving this a New York City (or any older big city, really) like feel. The upstairs detective office features a desk, chair,and light with a secret hiding spot for something small, maybe a pistol. This floor is also lacking two of these printed windows. Sadly, their is nothing on this floor as I couldn't think of what to put in there. The Deli sign hooks onto the outdoor balcony, next to the rainwater downspout I added to every floor. The lowest floor features a delicatessen with a deep fryer, grill, indoor / outdoor seating and a serving window with cash register. This car was originally based on the car from set 10232, (Palace Cinema) along with a front end inspired by set 70906. (The Joker Notorious Low-rider) You can also build this car in red or black instead if you so desired. The rear of the car with the spare tire. The car features seating for one driver figure, plus a spare tire at the rear of the car on top of the opening trunk. The LDD file is available for both car and building at Brick-safe at this link. As I already have 90% of this build's parts already, I will be ordering this next along with the clock tower for my train station. This build was based on LEGO set 4756 (called Shrieking Shack ) from the 2004 Harry Potter / Prisoner of Azkaban movie line, with a greenhouse from the C-model of the 2017 Creator set 31065 (Park Street Townhouse) and a sedan based on the one in the 2009 Indiana Jones set 7682 (Shanghai Chase). I also added a big front porch to complete the house's Victorian asthetic. The model swings open on two hinges, one for the main house so you can access the detailed inside, and a second in the greenhouse so you can open it up to place figures. Also, the front of the house is supposed to have a 1 x 1 number tile next to the front door, like this one here. In the original Harry Potter set there was a secret passage in the chimney, which I have removed. Also, the model locks shut on two Technic pins, just like most of my buildings. One pin is in the main part of the house, while another is in the green house. The inside features a bed, inspired by set 10228 (Monster Fighters' Haunted House) staircase with railing, couch, telephone, and phonograph. The kitchen area has a stove, sink, plus a table and two chairs. The greenhouse area was inspired by the similar version from the C-model of the 2017 Creator set 31065 (Park Street Townhouse). My version is a bit bigger with an eight stud wide window roof, whereas the original set has a 6 wide top. This model was based off of set 7682 (Shanghai Chase) from 2009, plus a sloped rear design inspired by the yellow car from set 10200 (Custom Car Garage). The model can seat two figures side by side and has opening doors. BUILDER'S NOTES: The LDD file is is available here. Hello everyone! Today I decided to give you a revolutionary idea in LEGO the automotive industry. This is a modular vehicle, its function in that it can from one base to make a few variations of body and lining. Look! Versions: Sedan Station Wagon Hatch Coupe The version number is limited only by your imagination. Limo, Pickup, Van, Hearse, caravan, Taxi, Police car, etc. Вe creative, I only will be glad!
