    An Exotic Feast Part 1

As has become customary, I built a series of vignettes as prizes for the the collaborative category. And of course I had to set them in the guilds! Here is the first, I will try to get the others posted before long. The Adventurers Guild in Alnya has a long standing tradition of a grand feast during the summer solstice. It’s not just a celebration, as their extremely competitive mindsets saw it quickly develop into a challenge. The master chefs, some of whom are capable adventurers in their own right, select teams of the most skilled and daring heroes to gather the rare ingredients needed to create dishes of exquisite flavor. The team responsible for creating the most delectable dish is rewarded with a generous bounty of gold and also first choice of quests until the next annual feast. Rogdul, a vaunted goblin burglar, was tasked with obtaining some of the rare mushrooms only found in the deep caverns of Nocturnus. Equipped with a dagger and good supply of torches, Rogdal ventured for hours through dark, claustrophobic tunnels before coming across a small stream that led him to discover a cavern and most importantly the coveted mushrooms! Few more images on Brickbuilt. Always feels like coming home to post in the guilds

    A Snowy Stroll

A vignette with just 99 elements for the RogueOlympics. Always good to build in Mitgardia again, and this time I even gave Glorfindel an outfit change Sir Glorfindel enjoying the frigid beauty of Mitgardian winter. Thanks for looking, feedback appreciated

    Alnya Cottage

A small cottage set in Alnya, where a dwelf dragon tamer trains some young hatchlings. Built last summer, and only just got to posting this now

    Alnya Mountain Lodge

It felt great to build something winter and castle again! This was an entry for the miscellaneous category of the Colossal Castle Contest. Special thanks to John for the main photo edit. Small lodges are common in Alnya to offer shelter and supplies for the various hunters and adventurers often far from towns or villages. On this snowy morning, Rydel sets out with his two dogs for a fine day of hunting. There are several game trails nearby that he feels confident will result in a good harvest. See more pictures on Brickbuilt.

    Feeding the Flock

As usual, this young lad starts his day by feeding the family's flock of chickens. More photos on Brickbuilt, and there's even a timelapse on Youtube. Thanks for looking

    Varlyrian House

Here is a little house set in Varlyrio that served as a prize in the 2020 Summer Joust. It was compliant with the restrictions of the Purist Parts category: "Only 1x1 brick with stud on one side, 1x2 brick with two studs on one side, and 1x4 brick with four studs on one side are allowed outside of traditional square plates and bricks. All other elements are not allowed to be used visibly, or inside your model." Which was a real challenge, especially at this scale. Thanks for looking, feedback welcome

    Allanar Market

Folwin heads to the Allanar market with a cart load of fresh carrots. While Allanar is a dwelf town, customers from the Adventurers Guild do often frequent it for the high quality goods. Dorsey is one such customer, whose prime adventuring years are well behind him. Though he doesn’t think so, and still picks brawls that more often than not result in him wandering around dazed for sometime. More photos on Brickbuilt. Thanks for looking!

    Folwin's Garden

After his hearty breakfast Folwin gets down to his daily gardening tasks. Today he’ll be delivering carrots, so he picks some fresh ones while his pet chicken follows along. More photos. Thanks for looking

    Folwin Begins His Day

While most people don’t appreciate how early Dwelfs tend to start their days, anyone who has had the pleasure of sharing a Dwelf’s breakfast has to concede that it’s well worth the lost sleep. Though still a rather young Dwelf at just 35 years old, Folwin already lives on his own in a cozy cottage not too far from his uncle Nym’s home. They both share a love for gardening and plant life, and over the years Folwin has learned much from his older relative. After Nym’s sudden disappearance, Folwin has had much to do fulfilling both of their customers’ needs. Took me way too long to get around to posting this here, but better late than never I suppose Some more photos on Brickbuilt.
  10. Here is a freebuild for Mitgardia! A small scene of everyday life in Horgaard. Falconry was a serious matter in Horgaard. Generations of birds of prey had been raised and trained there : generations of powerful hunting companions, tireless war messengers, and, on at least one occasion, life-saving air fire support. Little Siggi, nine years old, already knew everything about this critical aspect of his education as a young noble. The different kinds of birds, how to handle them, and how to train them. The history of the art of falconry, the evolution of the techniques, and their regional particularities. He even knew the names and stories of all the famous birds raised by his family much better than he knew the names of their owners. However, his falconry knowledge remained desperately theoretical. He had already been allowed to fly a trained kestrel, but the adults considered him too young for a greater bird. Sooner or later, he would train his own mighty eagle. In the meantime, he had much fun handling the lure. As usual, more information on the featured flora/fauna is given in hidden text.
  11. This is my first build for the Guilds of Historica! It's a Free Build for Mitgardia, and I'd like to add it to the Landscapes of Mitgardia community build as well (if it's still possible). Not very far from Horgaard, in the foothills of the Heavenly Mountains, stood a stone. It had always been there - as far back as men could recall. Nested in the snow throughout the winter, lost among wildflowers in the heat of summer. It was said to be a gateway to the world of the unseen, to the world of mighty mountain spirits and mischievous gnomes. And sometimes, extraordinary encounters happened. As my sigfig Sigrid Haraldsdottir is an enthusiastic naturalist, you'll find below a few details on the flora and fauna featured in this build.

    Militia Mishaps

This was my 6the ntry for the Colossal Castle Contest XVI. As the title indicates, this one was for the Medieval Militia category. I’m quite satisfied with the sloping wall foundation, and how smoothly I got the angled portion to fit. The tower top style was inspired by Steven Erickson. The annual training of militia is always a trying time for Sir Renaud. While he no longer directly oversees the weapons drills it’s practically painful to watch some of the peasants try and use the blunted practice swords, throw javelins, or even fire a simple bow and arrow! Others are only too confident in their supposed combat skills. At least there haven’t been any injuries so far this year… More images available here. Good to be posting a free build again, plenty more to come

    Loads of Apples

This scene made up part two of my entry for the From Field to Goblet category of the Colossal Castle Contest XVI. Credit for the swan design goes to Steven Erickson. See part 1. As the apples are picked, full barrels of the tasty fruit are carted back to the farm where they can be processed into cider. Both Eryl and Elise have a grand time seeing more of the fields and livestock as they escort the cart. Their dogs are also greatly intrigued by the various new animals to investigate, much to the amusement of their young farm boy friend. More pictures on Brickbuilt. Feedback always appreciated

    Wolfpack Keep

This was my eighth entry for the Colossal Castle Contest XVI, in the Classic Castle category. Like the original Wolfpack sets, I used primarily black walls with bley accents, red roofs, and even included a few dark gray parrots. A hinging portion and removable wall give access to the full interior. The bandit wolfpack’s keep is set on a small lake deep in one of Mitgardia's many forests. It serves as their permanent base of operations. A sturdy drawbridge is the only way to access the fortress, and its secluded position has kept it safe so far from any large scale attacks by the jarl’s soldiers. Plenty more pictures can be seen on Brickbuilt. Feedback always appreciated

    Apple Picking

This was part one of my 10th entry into the CCC XVI, for the From Field to Goblet category. This entry focused on the production of apple cider, so of course the first scene shows an orchard. When researching the process for making medieval cider (not much different than today’s process actually) I found it interesting that they often used long poles to whack the tree’s branches and cause any apples to fall to the ground where they could then be easily picked. So I included that in my rendition of a medieval apple harvest, as well as stone walls making terraces in the orchard. In the fall Eryl and Elise have a grand time helping with the apple harvest. Plenty of wildlife is always present around the fruit trees, and apple picking is one of the twin’s favorite harvest activities. Find more pictures on Brickbuilt. Thanks for looking, C&C welcome

    Walls of Crasonne

This was entry number nine for the Colossal Castle Contest XVI. The Great Wall category was one I liked a lot, and I quickly thought of building some of the fortified city of Carcassonne in France. While my model isn’t an exact replica of any section of the Carcassonne, I did base it mainly off of one of the gate areas, and every tower and wall setup was influenced by sections of the real thing. It is one of my biggest builds ever, weighing in at 35 pounds. Harburg isn't far from the famous fortified city of Crasonne. As such, Karsten has often visited Crasonne on various administrative matters. Today he is accompanied by Eryl, who hasn't seen the city since he was a small child. After a brief meeting with Mikill, lord of Crasonne, the Storrars are given a tour of Crasonne's defenses by a sergeant of the guard. Eryl has a hard time focusing on the details about tower placement, multiple gates, and stone construction that his father discusses with the sergeant. He can't help but feel tiny atop the massive stone walls, and there is plenty of interesting hustle and bustle on the city road. A group of knights are leaving Carcassonne after a tournament in the city, while various guards and peasants go about their business. Someday I'll compete in a tournament, Eryl thinks to himself upon seeing their brightly colored armor and mighty warhorses. One of the Crasonne guards takes advantage of their sergeant being distracted with the guests from Harburg. See plenty more images on Brickbuilt. This was a tedious build, but 'm very pleased with the end result. Hope you all like it

    Fresh Baked Goods!

Built for the Used Cart Salesman category of the Colossal Castle Contest XVI, this model is my third entry this year. The challenge of creating the look of a medieval city on such a small foot print was an enjoyable task, and I’m quite pleased with how the tudor houses turned out. Using sideways headlight bricks with tiles for cobblestone is an old idea, that I just made my own version of that design for this scene. Harburg is a bustling city and Lord Karsten often likes to walk the streets and see firsthand what goes on. Today he is accompanied by his daughter Elise, and while they wander around the city they see many vendors peddling various wares from their carts. Baked goods are always one of the most difficult items to refuse – the savory smells wafting from bakers’ wares are so tempting! More pictures: You can see more images on Brickbuilt, as usual. Thanks for looking, and as always your feedback is appreciated

    Calbridge Castle

This is my fifth entry for the Colossal Castle Contest XVI. I always enjoy building microscale castle scenes, so I certainly wasn’t going to pass up the Micro Medieval Mountain category, even if the prize wasn’t very desirable for me… The micro ship design was inspired by @Henjin_Quilones, though I did modify it slightly for us here. The fortress of Calbridge is built right into the Fjall mountains and its mighty walls protect the harbor and village along the coast. Looking for a better pictures of a specific detail? More images available on Brickbuilt. I had a lot of fun with this build, hope you all enjoy

    Mitgardian Farmhouse

Entry number four into the Colossal Castle Contest XVI. I built this house for another project, but figured I might as well enter it into the miscellaneous category. There is a full interior inside the house, accessed via lift off roof. I'll be using this build in a tutorial covering how to angle buildings on landscapes in the future - but it probably won't be posted until the CCC is done Many farmers have small homesteads in the tundra of Mitgardia. This particular family’s livestock consists of chickens and goats. You can find more images on Brickbuilt. Thanks for looking, and feedback is always appreciated

    Danyel's House

I enjoy building in the Dwarven style, and have made a fair amount of Dwarven scenes over the years, but not any recently. Which made it a great time to experiment with another building. I also got back into the habit of including full interiors. The corner pillar design is a modified version of a technique used in the Disney Castle. Eryl has many friends in Harburg, but one of his closest companions is Danyel: the son of a Dwarven merchant. Despite being nearly the same age as Eryl, Danyel already shows signs of having a fine Dwarven beard in the years to come. When they have some free time, the two boys enjoy exploring the forests and mountains around Harburg or playing mischievous pranks. It must be admitted that most of the latter are Eryl's ideas, and he can just about always convince Danyel to help him carry out his tricks. See more pictures on Brickbuilt. Felt great to do some building for Mitgardia again!

    Avalonian Cottage

Here is the second small building I built for the Guilds of Historica display at Brickworld. Like my first house, it was placed on Kevin’s island. I have been wanting to use bright light orange for a thatched roof for some time, and finally got around to doing so with this model. Few pictures of the whole GoH display at Brickworld: More pictures of the cottage are available on Brickbuilt. Thanks for looking, and as always, your feedback is appreciated

    The Streets of Daydelon

My 5th entry for the Colossal Castle Contest, into the Village Life category. Credit for the pine tree design goes to Chris Maddison, who recently shared his design in a tutorial here. The build fits on a 48×48 baseplate, and three of the buildings have interiors (pull out rooms). Daydelon has plenty of excellent shops to meet your various needs. Brianna’s Bakery, Tryggr’s Supplies, and the Toy Shop are all located on the first stretch of the main street. Even in the winter the city keeps bustling, with the frozen river providing a great place for children to skate and the snow covered streets still see plenty of traffic from dog sleds and others. And as usual, you can find plenty more pictures on brickbuilt. Thank you for looking

    Nordheim Watchtower

This was my fourth entry into the Colossal Castle Contest, for the Video Game Castle category. This model is based off of the watchtowers in Riften from the game Skyrim. The birch trees are versions of John’s tree design shown in our tree tutorial. I did include the stairs that make up most of the tower’s interior, though I wasn’t able to get a decent picture of them. Nordheim has various large watchtowers along the main roads leading to the city. Sir Glorfindel is on his way to visit the dwarves there, and bring them news from their kin in Hradcanny. More pictures on brickbuilt. As always, comments and suggestions welcome

    A Risky Endeavor

My 2nd entry for the 15th Colossal Castle Contest, for the “Ye Old Switcheroo” category. I used a technique somewhat similar to my technic rockwork, but using plate modified with clip and handle instead of technic bricks for the cliff, and really like how it turned out. Getting a dragon’s egg is always a dangerous business. This Mitgardian adventurer thought switching an egg for a similar shaped rock would allow him to make an undetected swap. After a long climb up the cliff face to reach the dragon's nest, he finally seems to have achieved his objective. But will he really get away with the egg? Plenty more pictures available on brickbuilt! Finally finished the semester, so now I can get onto CCC entries/GoH builds! C&C welcome

    Steinn Fortress

Micro castles are always something I enjoy building, and this one was especially fun due to being set in the winter. I incorporated quite a few technic parts into the castle itself and was really pleased with how well they fit in. One of Mitgardia's stronger citadels, Steinn Fortress is built into Mount Mitgard and features many soaring towers. Even during the Algus invasion, Steinn Fortress wasn't breached. More images on brickbuilt. Thanks for looking, comments and criticism always welcome
