  1. *Your entry has earned 17 XP* After we've successfully managed to get a heavy-duty cargo container at one of the abandoned warehouses of the old Tie fighter factory here at Foundry, we only have one task left. We need to find and pick up the medical supplies somewhere. A rumor shows, that on Foundry is an old, but still operating Medical base. Former Techno Union members are experimenting with some medical Nano-Droid as high efficient cures. Since the Trade Federation was wiped, most of them only survived in black market. They are our best change to fight the epidemic on Kuat. Our diplomats are already on their way to meet their leaders, but based on our previous experience with Skakoans, there are some tough negotiations ahead. Later... I've just received the message about the location of the medical facility. It looks like the they have made the deal, I don't now the details, but I heard Coaxium was involved too. After we've arrived to the base, their old and rusty droids immediately started loading our container with crates. During the loading time, the leader of the labor showed me their product and some of their and the production process. Skakoans can be very proud of their work, especially if something unique was created. You can find more details above:
  2. *Your entry has earned 22XP* Mission Log from Agent Amus: Ever since battle of Endor the imperial presence on colony worlds such as Foundry has been sloppy at best. Even though the Republic has declared Foundry a member of the state, they have shown little interest in anything other than the aristocratic and political districts of the planet. In their ignorance they have ignored the real power of Foundry. The industrial underworld. Mission log - continued: I’ve arranged a meeting at the cantina known among the locals as the Can Can. Clever nickname for a place that is supposed to look like it is run by droids. Mission log - continued: My intel suggests another individual is running the place. Running most of the underworld on Foundry actually. Inside the Can Can... When the music is playing... The bar has anything from blue milk to Merenzane Gold... Wealthy guests drinking Merenzane Gold... Sore looser... The street outside... Someone trying to remain anonymous... Staying warm in the Underworld... Phew. I finally got to post this one - I wish I could have paid more attention to the wall-work and stuff like that, but the build just took way too much time - and I wanted to move on. The diagonal walls was a real challenge - but cramping loads of details in this one was really fun... Let me know what you think! Below is a little peak behind the scenes, and close-ups...

    Armour foundry

November 618, Le Bellan, Eltina The settlement has grown quickly during the previous years and Eltina, today, resembles almost completely a large town of the Old World, except for the palms and the parrots: elegant bystanders walk along paved streets, flanked by houses built with stones. Even the new troops garrisoned in the city, in particular the courassiers recently arrived on the island, are something quite unusual for a colonial settlement, more used to militiamen or, at most, a couple of infantry companies: Eltina citizens proudly consider them a sign of the importance of their island, now a province of Oleon, more than a godsforsaken, unexplored angle of wasteland. Armoured cavalry, however, needs new armours: a new furnace was built for the purpose, with specialized smiths coming from Granoleon. Making an armour, in fact, is not an easy task, and requires the best iron and the best expertise: first of all the iron ingots are heated in a coal furnace, the bellows keeping the temperature high enough. Then the comes the core of the work: the steel bars are hammered, bent and hammered again, cooled and heated, cut in foils and moulded in the wanted shapes, again and again for hours. The number of different layers of steel determines the resistance of the armour: three layers (meaning basically three concentric armours welded together) represent a reasonable balance between weight and protection, but require a lot of time and work to be produced. The armours are quenched in cold water to further improve their resistance and durability: the process must be quick enough to work, but not too brutal or the steel, instead of reinforcing, will become fragile and will crack. At last, since courassiers are elite soldiers, the armours are carefully polished with a grindstone and finely decorated, one by one, by a specialized (and hopefully talented) artisan. Even if armoured cavalry can still route almost anything with a frontal charge, the times of legendary kings, jousts and spears shining in the sun have ended centuries ago, and knights must be protected accordingly: the main menace, nowadays, is represented by infantry with firearms. For this reason, each armour is tested under the sight of state officials: it must endure without damage a short range gunshot... ...or a musket ball from a longer distance. The armour the courassiers wear, in fact, is not only a distinctive sign of the regiment or a decorative object: it can be pierced by a close range shot of a musket or of a modern rifle, this is true, but still provides a good protection aganist swords, arrows, pistols and blunderbusses, that means aganist weapons frequently used by cavalry and militias. Armoured cavalry is not at its sunset yet: it's not invincible, but still can decide the result of a battle with its powerful charge. To do that, not to be cut down before reaching the enemy is a good start and, if that is possible, part of the credit for that also goes to Eltina armour smiths.

    The foundry

Astrapi, August 618, halfway between the city and the mine "Good morning monsieur Duchamp, I am honored by your presence here. As you can see, the foundry is now fully operative, and we estimate the costs will be completely refunded in a couple of months". "The honor is mine, director, you've done an admirable work!" Replied Renè Duchamp. Director's prediction was a bit too optimistic, but how to blame his enthusiasm? They had been just a step before complete failure, the investors were discouraged and only his own reassurance to creditors, Tristan's perseverance and the director's skills saved House Rimbaud's investment on Astrapi silver. Everything about that damned silver has resulted harder than expected, with the ore in an impervious area, water infiltrations in the tunnels, the employment of an half of the labour force in the construction of the Arsenal and, last but not least, copper in the silver veins, just enough to make conventional smelting process almost useless. "As you can see, we are receiving in this very moment some partially refined silver from the mine... it is smelted there, but that doesn't remove copper. The cargos are delivered to the pier using small boats or bigger barges" "What are those men doing?" Asked Duchamp, curious. "They are numbering and date-stamping the barrels. Since their content comes from the same area of the mine, we will assay only some of them for copper amount, and mixing them up wouldbe a problem" "And here you can see the beast -continued the director- the heart of the foundry. This is our cupellation furnace, eating coal and pooping fine silver... I am sorry sir, forgive my rudeness." "No problem, Director, it is no trouble at all. Please, go on: how does your famous furnace work?" "How I was saying, sir, it is a cupellation furnace, not a great innovation, but the first one in the New Worl; as the name suggests, it contains one or more "cups", bowls of calcareus sand. The smelted silver from the mine is loaded in the furnace together with a calculated amount of lead. When the metal melts, we open the hatch, and the strong air flow oxidise lead to litharge, that sinks through silver and is absorbed by the sand, dragging copper away. Copper oxidises too, but without the lead movement it would remain mixed with silver." "Lead... that's why you need so much lead! It's not easy bring it to the foundry!" "I know, monsieur, and for this reason we have a good stock of both lead and coal. My men are bringing lead ingots inside the warehouse, a hard job, I do not envy them at all" "There we also store the barrels of raw silver, ready for refination" "Please, monsieur, come with me in the building behind us. As you can see there are a little furnace, used to assay raw silver, and what's needed to verify weight and size of silver ingots and to mark them." "Good morning guys. Thank you for the tour, Director. I only have a question: what is that yellow powderon the table?" "An easy question, monsieur. It is solid litharge, that is lead oxide. We usually sell some of it to local painters, who use it as yellow pigment." The facade of the building An overall view
  5. Location: Mesabi Landing Type: Medium Factory As acting Mayor of Mesabi Landing, Karl Mordo had to oversee the opening of new factories. Not that he wanted to be mayor. In fact the position had started to take over his personal life as well. Mesabi Landing Foundry 2 by North White, on Flickr This was the second Cannon Factory on Argentia, adding to the Island's destructive power. But what Karl really wanted was a nice nap. He grumbled as they let him in. Mesabi Landing Foundry 2 by North White, on Flickr The WTC foreman spoke. "Much like our other factory, we melt things down into a mold on a rail system. Mesabi Landing Foundry 2 by North White, on Flickr "Iron Ingots, old swords, and other useless things are all turned into cannons here." Mesabi Landing Foundry 2 by North White, on Flickr Molten Iron flowed into the mould with a hiss. Mesabi Landing Foundry 2 by North White, on Flickr Th mold was wheeled out of the factory to cool in the cooler air outside. Mesabi Landing Foundry 2 by North White, on Flickr And for the next four hours, Karl Mordo was forced to make awkward small talk with the WTC's most boring Foreman. Because he needed to verify that the same iron poured into the cannon mould would become the cannons as mandated by Corrish Law. Mesabi Landing Foundry 2 by North White, on Flickr Finally the mould was cracked open, revealing four small deck guns. "We pride ourselves on being able to recycle the mould here." The foreman said happily. Karl Mordo sighed. It was hot out. Mesabi Landing Foundry 2 by North White, on Flickr Finally the barrels were drilled out to Corrish standards, making another set of working cannons. Mesabi Landing Foundry 2 by North White, on Flickr "We'll have a third soon." Said the foreman. But Karl Mordo had already walked off... FIN Thanks for viewing my build! Sorry for the hiatus. Although my hiatus seems to be how much time it usually takes the rest of you to build something. C&C appreciated!
  6. Location: Mesabi Landing Type: Medium Factory With the Count Away on some half baked adventure, it was up to Agnes to keep the peace in Mesabi Landing. Today, she toured the New Cannon Foundry. The Foundry by North White, on Flickr "So, give me a tour of this place." She said unhappily. It was hot outside, and hotter in the Foundry. "Yes of course, countess." Said the foreman, John Slader. The Foundry by North White, on Flickr "First, we make a mold of a cannon with a sand clay mixture. We usually use a MAESTRO cannon for the mold, and engrave 'WTC' On it." Said John "Good to hear you're using the WTC's business model." Replied Agnes. The Foundry by North White, on Flickr "Next, we burn wood to melt the iron." The Foundry by North White, on Flickr "We melt down iron for the cannons. Usually we use iron pellets, but any old iron will work." The Foundry by North White, on Flickr "The melted iron is poured into the mould, which is mounted on these rails." The Foundry by North White, on Flickr "We move the mold out of the the way, and let it cool." The Foundry by North White, on Flickr "Once the mould has cooled, we remove it from the cart, and take it outside. Afterwards, another mould is attached to the cart, and iron poured in." The Foundry by North White, on Flickr "The Cannon is chipped out of the mould." The Foundry by North White, on Flickr "Finally, the Cannon is mounted, and it is slowly turned into a chisel, hollowing out the inside. Once that's finished, it's brought to another factory for the mounting." The Foundry by North White, on Flickr "Impressive set up!" Said Agnes, unusually impressed. "Thank you!" Said John. FIN Thanks for viewing my build for a factory in Mesabi Landing! I took everything from a "How it's made" video. It is a medium build, it might not look it, but it has 1024 studs total, which equals 32x32. C&C appreciated!
  7. This is my entry to the Brickset 2016 Star Wars competition where you had to design a set based on a specific scene that hasn't been represented yet. Anakin, Padme, R2-D2 and C-3PO have infiltrated the Separatist droid foundry on Geonosis and are ambushed by the Geonosians! Pull the pins to shut the door and drop the heroes onto the conveyor belt. Turn the wheel to move the conveyor belts and help them escape through the assembly line! Watch out for swinging robot arms, stomping presses, and chopping blades! Use the swiveling robot arm to assemble the droids. C-3PO has lost his head! Attach R2-D2's rocket boosters and turn the knob on the tower to have him fly to the rescue! Rearrange the assembly modules to create your own foundry layout. Includes Anakin Skywalker, Padme, R2-D2, C-3PO, one Geonosian with stud shooter, and 4 battle droids.
