I just bought the Zurg Battle (set 76831) recently. I didn't like the legs, as the look from Toy Story 2 / Buzz Lightyear of Star Command design for Emperor Zurg was (in my honest opinion) much better and more iconic. Here we see the finished model. Zurg has an orange 2 x 2 "boat stud" in trans-orange on the bottom for his rocket pod feet that you can't see in this shot. "...and then a little mini-fig shouted 'He's got no pants on!' Emperor Zurg suddenly realized the tiny mini-fig was right, and than the he has been tricked by Buzz Lightyear. So, Zurg re-atomized the poor fig into a compressed cylindrical pile of ash with his finger laser and declared it "No Pants for Emperor's Day." This is the ending scene from "Emperor Zurg's New Clothes", a popular bed time story for children on Planet Z. (As far as we know, no minifigs were actually re-atomized making this shot.) In actuality, this is a behind-the-scenes look at how Zurg is assembled. All the parts needed to remake the legged Zurg from Lightyear into Emperor Zurg with skirt as seen in Toy Story 2*. (NOTE: The old-style round 2x2 Light bluish gray tile should have the printed "Z" Zurg logo from 2010's Construct-A-Zurg.) *TS2-film accurate Ion Blaster not included, as I couldn't figure out a design for the tri-barrel that was in scale. The purple cheese slopes and printed tile go above the wheel arch used on the front of Zurg, while the extra 2x2 plate round goes where the Mixel ball-joint connectors went as the original hips. You can download the free LDD file for the skirt model in completed form here from Bricksafe. (Side note: If you thought I said "Zurg" a lot in this post, you're right: I said it twelve times including this last one!) Enjoy the MOD, and comments, questions, and complaints welcome!
[Concept Art] - The Emperor's throne room
Kendo posted a topic in Watto's JunkyardHey everyone ! It's been ages since I took part in a Eurobricks contest of any kind, but when I stumbled upon the Concept Art Contest this Friday, I knew I had to cook something up, no matter how little time remained, since I am a huge fan of Ralph McQuarrie's art. About half of the wall space of my house is filled with framed posters of his drawings, as I am simply in love with his ability to capture the feeling of each location - you can almost feel how it would be like if you were there. My favorite work of his is all the ROTJ imperial imagery, like the super industrial proto-Coruscant that Vader escorts Luke through to get to the Emperor, but Palpy's throne room itself takes the cake in my opinion. The final movie version of the room onboard the DSII is iconic to be sure, but to me this version of it is an amazing, super Star-Wars-y location, and perfectly matches the Emperor's character and the tone of the sequence. My build is quite simple, as the platform and throne are quite simple, sharp and bold shapes themselves. For the lava, I wanted something a tad more realistic and interesting than trans-orange tiles on a baseplate, so I employed the classic idea of a net piece sandwiched between 1x1 plates and 1x1 tiles on the bottom and top respectively, which gives the ability to curve and shape your surface, and created a subtle wave pattern. Due to my time limitations, I switched the camera's angle to be higher up to avoid building tons of rockwork on the back, but I included the small parts near the platform using the new-ish beehive part,BB-8 heads and barraki eyes, so you can get an idea of what the rest of it would look like. So, here goes, please tell me your thoughts and critiques !
[LDD MOC] Dalek Emperor (1967)
Jason C. Hand posted a topic in LEGO Sci-FiHello all. I have not posted to this topic in a long time, but I wanted to share my latest LDD build here. This is my take on the Dalek Emperor from the 1967 Doctor Who serial, "The Evil of the Daleks." It is mostly based on the build done by NathanR over on Bricksafe. The head rotates, and the eyestalk bends. Digital file available on photo page. Enjoy!
Funky Koval posted a topic in LEGO Star WarsIt's Palpy! "I must be Frank, Your Majesty." For those who saw my Vader topic, this is where the rest of the two Kylo Rens went... "Your hat has made you powerful." The lightning is done using LightStax - that's the extension cable and powebox at the bottom of the frame. "Give in to your hunger!" Everything besides the Lightstax system is genuine Lego. Even the string. "Powder! Unleeeemited Pooooowderrr!" *autistic screeching* Thanks for watching.
[MOD] Death Star II Housewarming Party!
Littleworlds posted a topic in LEGO Star WarsThe super-laser is installed, the bar has been equipped, party decorations hung up, the PA is ready and all invitations have been sent – the dark side really knows how to party! While the emperor and Darth Vader raise a toast on this new jewel of interstellar destruction, a Stormtrooper discovers the wonders of Karaoke! The Inquisitor rules the catering department. Daft Tron on the turntables, Darth Lavaria has a chat with an imperial officer. Always the same story: he drinks too much, takes over the turntables and starts playing 70s disco… In the meanwhile, Darth Vader realizes that mixing Saurian Brandy with Alderaan-Whiskey (rare!) wasn’t a good idea. Of course he will blame the music. And he will clearly remember the usefulness of this duct at some later point… More pictures and (a review of the set) on my blog! I hope you enjoy the party just as I do
[MOC] Now witness the power of this fully equipped and operational...
Littleworlds posted a topic in LEGO Star WarsHamburger Grill. Not many people know that the emperor’s secret passion was actually barbecuing. Many many times he wondered if he should quit it all and start his own hamburger stand instead. In this universe he did! He got a lot of faithful customers and the galaxy became a better, more peaceful place. Well, until a certain Luke Skywalker opened a salad bar. But that’s another story. Everyone likes his hamburgers… that’s an order: Looks like that damn sparker is broken again!
"Vive L’Empereur!" 200th Anniversary of Napoleon's R
Gary The Procrastinator posted a topic in Pirate MOCsMOC based on painting. Hello, here's my LEGO build of Karl von Steuben’s painting, Napoleon returned from Elba, which shows an event that happened 200 years ago today: For closer view click on the picture. In Napoleon’s quest to reclaim France after being exiled to Elba, March 7th, 1815 was one of those unique moments when just one little wrong move, and modern history would have been drastically different. The 5th Regiment, supposedly loyal to newly-restored King Louis XVIII, was sent to arrest Bonaparte after his return from exile at Elba. The senior general in command, Marshall Michel Ney, promised the king that he “would bring Napoleon back to Paris in an iron cage.” Always a gambler, Napoleon deliberately presented himself a target, “Here I am,” he declared to troops formerly loyal to him, “Kill your Emperor, If you wish.” If just one soldier had pulled the trigger…but instead the emotion of the moment swept through the ranks and they surged forward to him in idolization. Thirteen days later, he would ride into Paris, beginning his last period of rule, known as The Hundred Days. The end result was the Battle of Waterloo. My build, and the orginal painting, Napoleon returned from Elba by Karl von Steuben. For closer views click on each. In celebration of the 200th Anniversary of this history-changing battle, at Brickfair Virginia this year there will be a massive collaboration to render Waterloo in LEGO, with over 1000 minifigs, terrain, La Haye Sainte farm, and hopefully Hougoumont as well. Here is our FLICKR group for the collaboration: http://www.flickr.co...s/legowaterloo/ Hope you like the build! More Napoleonic builds are on the way...
[WIP] Imperial Shuttle
Samppu posted a topic in LEGO Star WarsHello, there are two periods in Star Wars timeline that I am most interested in. The other one is the end of the clone wars and the other the time related to Grand Admiral Thrawn. For this latter I have been building an Imperial Shuttle, so here you go: [MOC] Imperial Shuttle Features: - Opening wings and retractable landing gear. They are actually synchronized, so when you open the wings, the landing gears will automatically pull in, or when you close the wings, the landing gears will automatically push out. - Two fiber-wired missiles with a range up to some 2-3 meters. They are under the floor, and they fire when you open their ports next to main turbolaser cannons. I will actually replace them with spring-shooters, because they are very difficult to reload as the shuttle weights pretty much. - Two spring-shooters behind the wing cannons, one at each. These ones are not present in the following pictures as I am making an important upgrade to them. Before they were launched under the wings that was again somewhat circus due to the weight. Now I make a button on the top of the wings, so that they would be much easier to launch. - Opening boarding ramp that is tall enough for a minifigure to walk in and out. - Fully decorated interior and cocpit. - Controllable twin laser cannon at the back of the ship that you can move from the inside of the shuttle. Control panels and viewport is inside the shuttle and a minifigure can actually be played to use this cannon. However, it does not shoot anything. - Cocpit walls can be easily removed so that you can play and access the seats. Also the main fin can be easily removed in order to access the other parts of the interior. This is still in the WIP-stage, because I will still make some modifications on the parts mentioned above. Also the wings have been built up in a great hurry for a Lego-Show, so I will try to make them more studless and symmetric. -Samppu
Future of SW Contest (small category): Resurrection of the Emperor
Lobot posted a topic in Watto's JunkyardThis is my entry for the SW Contest (small category) - 16 x 16 studs. I'll take some more photos when I've finished it, and the lights better, but thought that you might like to see a little preview It's illuminated with two sets of Technic LEDs which are all held within the main structure to comply with the competition rules. The saga continues.... Episode VII – The resurrection of the Emperor 20 years after the second Death Star is destroyed a small band of loyal Imperial forces has managed to clone the Emperor from a sample of his blood, and are once again planning to take control of the Galaxy. Deep within the Geonosis catacombs they plot their revenge.... via the construction of a third Death Star!! “Yes, I know that the first two didn’t work out as well as planned, but I’ve got an idea” said the Emperor. He continued “What we’ll do with this one is ensure there aren’t any small exhaust ports on the outside, and we’ll also have a defensive shield for it...and this time we’ll generate the power needed for it within the Death Star!” He chuckled at the thought of his evil genius. Edit: Additional photos added. Apologies for the quality for the quality of the photos....it's rather dark in the UK at the moment!! I'm quite pleased how the rocks turned out, I've never tried building them before & it was really fun! Side view: Reverse side: Full view: The battery box was a bit of an afterthought....I didn't know how else to hide it!! C & C welcome! Cheers, Robin
