  1. Hey everyone ! It's been ages since I took part in a Eurobricks contest of any kind, but when I stumbled upon the Concept Art Contest this Friday, I knew I had to cook something up, no matter how little time remained, since I am a huge fan of Ralph McQuarrie's art. About half of the wall space of my house is filled with framed posters of his drawings, as I am simply in love with his ability to capture the feeling of each location - you can almost feel how it would be like if you were there. My favorite work of his is all the ROTJ imperial imagery, like the super industrial proto-Coruscant that Vader escorts Luke through to get to the Emperor, but Palpy's throne room itself takes the cake in my opinion. The final movie version of the room onboard the DSII is iconic to be sure, but to me this version of it is an amazing, super Star-Wars-y location, and perfectly matches the Emperor's character and the tone of the sequence. My build is quite simple, as the platform and throne are quite simple, sharp and bold shapes themselves. For the lava, I wanted something a tad more realistic and interesting than trans-orange tiles on a baseplate, so I employed the classic idea of a net piece sandwiched between 1x1 plates and 1x1 tiles on the bottom and top respectively, which gives the ability to curve and shape your surface, and created a subtle wave pattern. Due to my time limitations, I switched the camera's angle to be higher up to avoid building tons of rockwork on the back, but I included the small parts near the platform using the new-ish beehive part,BB-8 heads and barraki eyes, so you can get an idea of what the rest of it would look like. So, here goes, please tell me your thoughts and critiques !
  2. Hello all. I have not posted to this topic in a long time, but I wanted to share my latest LDD build here. This is my take on the Dalek Emperor from the 1967 Doctor Who serial, "The Evil of the Daleks." It is mostly based on the build done by NathanR over on Bricksafe. The head rotates, and the eyestalk bends. Digital file available on photo page. Enjoy!
  3. It's Palpy! "I must be Frank, Your Majesty." For those who saw my Vader topic, this is where the rest of the two Kylo Rens went... "Your hat has made you powerful." The lightning is done using LightStax - that's the extension cable and powebox at the bottom of the frame. "Give in to your hunger!" Everything besides the Lightstax system is genuine Lego. Even the string. "Powder! Unleeeemited Pooooowderrr!" *autistic screeching* Thanks for watching.
  4. I just bought the Zurg Battle (set 76831) recently. I didn't like the legs, as the look from Toy Story 2 / Buzz Lightyear of Star Command design for Emperor Zurg was (in my honest opinion) much better and more iconic. Here we see the finished model. Zurg has an orange 2 x 2 "boat stud" in trans-orange on the bottom for his rocket pod feet that you can't see in this shot. "...and then a little mini-fig shouted 'He's got no pants on!' Emperor Zurg suddenly realized the tiny mini-fig was right, and than the he has been tricked by Buzz Lightyear. So, Zurg re-atomized the poor fig into a compressed cylindrical pile of ash with his finger laser and declared it "No Pants for Emperor's Day." This is the ending scene from "Emperor Zurg's New Clothes", a popular bed time story for children on Planet Z. (As far as we know, no minifigs were actually re-atomized making this shot.) In actuality, this is a behind-the-scenes look at how Zurg is assembled. All the parts needed to remake the legged Zurg from Lightyear into Emperor Zurg with skirt as seen in Toy Story 2*. (NOTE: The old-style round 2x2 Light bluish gray tile should have the printed "Z" Zurg logo from 2010's Construct-A-Zurg.) *TS2-film accurate Ion Blaster not included, as I couldn't figure out a design for the tri-barrel that was in scale. The purple cheese slopes and printed tile go above the wheel arch used on the front of Zurg, while the extra 2x2 plate round goes where the Mixel ball-joint connectors went as the original hips. You can download the free LDD file for the skirt model in completed form here from Bricksafe. (Side note: If you thought I said "Zurg" a lot in this post, you're right: I said it twelve times including this last one!) Enjoy the MOD, and comments, questions, and complaints welcome!
  5. The super-laser is installed, the bar has been equipped, party decorations hung up, the PA is ready and all invitations have been sent – the dark side really knows how to party! While the emperor and Darth Vader raise a toast on this new jewel of interstellar destruction, a Stormtrooper discovers the wonders of Karaoke! The Inquisitor rules the catering department. Daft Tron on the turntables, Darth Lavaria has a chat with an imperial officer. Always the same story: he drinks too much, takes over the turntables and starts playing 70s disco… In the meanwhile, Darth Vader realizes that mixing Saurian Brandy with Alderaan-Whiskey (rare!) wasn’t a good idea. Of course he will blame the music. And he will clearly remember the usefulness of this duct at some later point… More pictures and (a review of the set) on my blog! I hope you enjoy the party just as I do
  6. Hamburger Grill. Not many people know that the emperor’s secret passion was actually barbecuing. Many many times he wondered if he should quit it all and start his own hamburger stand instead. In this universe he did! He got a lot of faithful customers and the galaxy became a better, more peaceful place. Well, until a certain Luke Skywalker opened a salad bar. But that’s another story. Everyone likes his hamburgers… that’s an order: Looks like that damn sparker is broken again!
