How to classify damage on LEGO set box?
LIVEnannino posted a topic in General LEGO DiscussionHello everyone, i am curious about this topic, since i always tried to buy online old LEGO set but i never understood how to recognize a damaged set. For example, today the courier delivered to me the LEGO Star Wars Tantive IV, and once opened the expedition package, i've found a little "scratch" on the top side of the box. I'cant really say the cause of that damage, but i guess that it come from the inside, as a piece inside perforated the box. Opinion about the value of the set with this damage? does it affects the possibility to sell it in future?
My "Axle Hole" Pieces Are Cracking
StudWorks posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale ModelingJust building my MOC and I found out pieces I thought were in great condition are forming cracks already. 1. I thought only grey pieces were prone to these types of cracks, I was wrong. 2. Lots and lots of broken grey pieces. Almost every piece I have like this now has a crack. 3. Here's the same pieces but showing the cracks on the other side. 4. U-joints are just so easy to break. 5. I even broke one of these. 6. To test the durability of this piece (which some I have are in the earliest phase of cracking) I put an axle halfway through, put pressure on it, and the piece's "axle inserter" snapped. Trying to stay positive, but this is really holding back my builds. Wish I could find some way to prevent this from easily happening or if the cracking is a defect with the part. Is anybody else experiencing cracking with pieces where you put in axle? Would like some feedback from the community, thank you.
Fading metallic print
SpiderSpaceman posted a topic in General LEGO DiscussionHey everybody, I hope I'm not remaking a topic here but I wanted to inquire: I've got a good collection of Minifigures, including the majority of the collectible Minifigures, and I want them to be in collectible condition (without sealing them away), but for a number of my favorite figures that doesn't seem to be possible. There's certainly cracking down the torsos that just happens to figures I'm not messing around with, but my particular concern is metallic print. It's just downright gone from my series 1&2 collectible figures, certainly from the Indiana Jones line figures (some of my favorites ever), and my cyborg "Agents" villains. I would be crushed for this to spread to the rest of my Collectible Minifigs, my Superheroes, and Lord of the Rings figures, among others. There's definitely an age component to the print failing, but is this degradation totally inevitable? Is it my climate? I'm in the greater New Orleans area and there is a lot of absurd temperature fluctuation in the weeks around the change of seasons, and excessively moist air (of course my place is conditioned but the room where the Legos are at has poor circulation or something. I wonder if keeping them in different conditions would keep them from damage once they're vulnerable. What are your experiences? What can you suggest for preserving/preventing whatever reaction is causing the damage (without putting them in a vacuum or shellacking) I really do bet it's the air humidity, unless it just happens to everyone? Does anyone still have gold on, say, the maraca Guy's hat?
Question about minifigure storage?
Zoshi posted a topic in General LEGO DiscussionHi! I've recently gotten back into Lego collecting, so I haven't really set up a good storage situation yet. I've been keeping most of my bricks/minifigures organized in plastic ziplock bags, but recently while going through my minfigures I noticed that one of my Poison Ivy (old variant) figures had a scratch on her lips. This could have been because most of my minifigures are played with, but I don't remember her being scratched before being in the bag… I'm wondering if keeping them in the bags will cause scratches/damage, or if the scratch is most likely from before? I have a couple large bags with 50-75 minifigures in each and so far haven't noticed any damage to any of my other figures (haven't been looking too hard though.) Could it simply be because it's an old figure? I've been trying not to move the bags too much after I found the scratch, but is there a better storage option? Keep in mind I'm a bit tight on money/space right now. Thanks!
