Review: 42065 RC Tracked Racer Name: RC Tracked Racer Number: 42065 Theme: Technic Year: 2017 Pieces: 319 Price: USD $??.99, Euro 79.99€, AUD $119.99 Brickset: Extra Info Technic Early 2017 Review Series Welcome to the second in my batch of 2017 Technic reviews! I was offered all the small sets early 2017 for review late last year... but I ended up getting them all! Thus I have a lot to review. I've been doing them in parallel and changing my process as I go so hopefully the latter ones will end up being the best. On that angle I'll probably retcon some of the earlier reviews if I improve my process. Due to this remember that I'm happy to take extra photos or provide extra info on request, and anything especially good will be added to the main body of the review. Do note though that sometimes the model may no longer exist if I have have made an alternate. On the subject of alternates, I will be making the alt model, if I have the instructions, think the model is worth making, and I have the time. Also I'll show mid stage construction only if I think it's relevant. Thus don't ask for construction photos or alt models if they aren't part of the review.... I am prepared to extract parts for detail photos though. Photos will all be hosted on Flickr so larger versions are available, and relevant videos will be on YouTube and linked to from here. I don't edit photos much; very rarely I'll crop one and almost never will "correct" them so the photos should be as natural as possible. I will try to not be repetitive; thus it's worth reading my other reviews. For example I'm not going to complain too much about the digital instructions; I'll try to complain about new things, or maybe not complain at all! So onto the review! Packaging Front.... ...back.... ...top. Unboxing Standard punch box. Only one instruction book and it's staple bound. Secondary model has instructions online only, at this stage it is not there. Not a big fan of the whole on-line instructions system. There seems to always be a delay in the release of the secondary model, and the app does not support all devices. For example my Xperia Z5 is not compatible, but my Xperia Z Ultra (older but larger screen, but a phone, not a tablet) is not. The build is not sectioned. In hindsight I probably should have left the tracks bagged for this photo. The special parts being.... ...the anniversary part.... ...and the recolour of the track sprockets (If I'm missing any please tell me!). Parts list. Random instruction page. Build It's done! Spare parts. The model opens up nicely to reveal easy access to the battery box top... ...and bottom. As a result you don't even need to remove it to replace batteries; you can just slip off the covers. Oddly though there is no way to clip down the body; it's held in place by gravity only. You can see the anniversary part here at the rear. Inside there isn't much; the motors are directly linked to the sprockets... ...and aside from the benefits tracks give, there is no suspension. Since this is a Remote Controlled Racer by name, I decided to make some videos highlighting its capabilities. Adding the stickers does help blend the panels together. On the subject of aesthetics, the "antenna" is an interesting addition. Since it's not really a RF car it has no purpose except making it look like one... thus does this make the set a model of a non-LEGO RF tracked model, or is it deliberate deception? I should ask the designer I suppose... No "Octan" sticker to my disappointment. Only companies like "Roaring Motors", "Fat Tyres", "Acelle Rate"... Ratings Function: It does what's on the tin... but pure motor vehicles I do have trouble seeing as "Technic". Afterall, back in 2008 there was a Mars Mission model that was designed to be motorised and mechanically was much the same; the same motors directly driving the sprockets. Sets like this would have normally been grouped in the "Racers" line. 4/10 Parts: Once again, it's as advertised. There's pretty much little functional Technic, but it is a RC Track Vehicle so faulting that isn't fair. 9/10 Price: $119.99 AUD for 319 parts seems rather bad, but in reality the value is very high due to the motors; individually the Power Functions cost $95 AUD. 10/10 Accuracy: I could fault the asymmetrical motor placement, but I think the design is intentional to reduce width and increase balance. Which is arguably an accurate decision since this actually has to move, which it does very well. 9/10 Fudge: What we have here is the ultimate design-your-own-RC-tracked-vehicle set. Technic it may not be, but it is pretty cool. 5/10 Overall: Buy! 7/10 -

Hey all! Is there a thread somewhere where you can request a review? I'm keen to read more about the 60047-1 City Police Station (especially with a cross-comparison with 7498-1 and even 4440-1) and there's no way I can just 'buy it and find out for myself' so, has anyone got it and feels up to a review (or even an opinion?)? I know there are 2 video reviews (the BrickShow!), but they've never really been my thing and I'd quite like to see a decent photo of the interior. Thanks! Al

Interesting findings after indexing all Eurobricks reviews

Hey guys! As part of an experiment I've indexed all reviews from Eurobricks. I wanted to share some fun statistics! Here's what I've done: Gather all reviews For each review: * - Extract set id and map to Bricksets database - Extract a short summary (if possible) - Extract author - If there's an overall score, extract that and normalize it to 1-100 This lets us figure out some fun stuff: I've found a total of 3275 reviews from Eurobricks (whoah!) 74% of these are scored in one way or another (that's 2422 scored and 853 unscored) The average score is 81.83. Calculating standard deviation means a good score for a Eurobricks review is better than 93.11, and a bad score is below 70.55. Everything between those numbers is average, statistically speaking. 627 individual authors have produced these reviews. I've been doing the same to a lot of other reviews as well, and the global average score is 79.67. Eurobricks is pretty darn spot on - not a mean feat! This has been a fun experiment. If you're interested in seeing more you can see the stats for Eurobricks here. That page also lets you find all reviews written by a specific author. The entire experiment can be found on brickinsights.com - it's a work in progress, but any feedback you have is appreciated. I'd be happy to try to answer any questions you have about this, or provide the data for you to do your own analysis. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! * Some caveats: I found the reviews by making a site wide search for titles containing the word "review". If a review hasn't followed this convention it is not included. Even then, not all reviews were included. There were a few that mostly consisted of broken images or just links to other sites. These were left out. I thought of it this way: If a random person looking at the review would find it useful, it should be included in the dataset. If not, then it's out. So onto the review! Packaging Front.... ...back.... ...top. I find it odd that the 40th anniversary promotion is on the top, not the front, but I'm not in marketing! I also think it's misleading the "+ beam" claim as it's NOT a plus, it's part of the model, and often structural. (From what I've seen so far it's always visible.) Unboxing Standard punch box. Surprisingly there are two books; one for the alternative model. Staple bound, the main model has a better cover. Loads of stickers; all panels get one. The build is not sectioned, but it's not really that big a model. Quite a decent variety of parts, the special parts being.... ..the anniversary part.... ...this connector, which seems to be new this year... ...and this recolour. (If I'm missing any please tell me!) Parts list. Build It's done! First things first, it's not a helicopter, it's a gyrocopter. Not sure why LEGO would pick the wrong name, perhaps to avoid confusion, but it does annoy me. (Grrrr.) But I'll pick more on that kind of stuff later. Spare parts. Side view highlights the rudder control and the inline engine... ...which fits in very neatly. The anniversary parts is used as part of the rudder control... ...which probably deflects enough to be functional. The other control surfaces are static. The cockpit isn't really designed for a walrus. Underneath you can spin the rotor and propeller and make sounds to your hearts content. Adding the stickers does make the model look a bit more exciting, but I do think a more exciting colour would have made more sense here... but considering the rest of the line the year white isn't overused. The overall model is rather small, but it is a low price point. Build (Alternate) The alternate build is an "Experimental Aircraft". It looks Burt Rutan-ish to me.... ...but it doesn't use much of the parts. (Hair is not part of the set.) The cockpit is very squeezy.... ...and it has a flat engine. You can see the anniversary part here. Ratings Function: Really I think a set this small could have got away with just the rotor, adding the rudder, and having the alternate use a flat engine instead of an inline is excellent as well. 8/10 Parts: Nothing too exciting, but it's a very good blend and is a good source for some of the new connectors. 8/10 Price: $29.99 AUD (19.99 USD) for 199 parts is good value considering the size of the set, the full set of printed instructions, and the variety of parts. 9/10 Accuracy: If I rated this as a helicopter I'd give it 0/10.... but I'm not that mean. But even as a Gyrocopter it's wrong; the main blade is supposed to be free spinning. Some you can give a rolling start, but they are not powered, and this model gives the wrong impression. Also the blade is way too short.... 4/10 Fudge: This is an excellent set for someone starting out in Technic, and a good parts pack for others. 8/10 Overall: Buy! 7/10 -
I'm having some trouble with the Technic forum lately. Old reviews appear to be cutoff, this one for example: Also the 8110 Unimog, and 8436 crane truck, and probably others too. I did read the 8436 review a few months ago (read before the forum upgrade), not the others though as far I remember. I think it might have to do with the forum upgrade, but I don't know, anyone else having the same issue?

speed build and review, all the original parts as well, those mega rare 4x4 Red rader dishes. i spent €5 each to buy them new. also, a few more interestings ones, such as 8258/8289 on his playlist. 8416 is surprisingly rare, has some unique parts and is quite expensive second hand. i got lucky and was able to collect all the parts to build it, but its still sitting inside a plastic bag....unbuilt, same with 8653 and 8145. i have all the parts now but i havent the drive to sit down and built the sets..... https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?id=55951#T=S&O= also.....the tyres on this set has a unique thread, the tyres are excellent: http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItemIn.asp?P=41893&in=S -

Creator is a weird beast of a series: mini-figure scale sets of different sizes, non-min-figure scale vehicles, and basically anything that qualifies as 'miscellaneous.' This year, one of the more colourful sets appearing in the line is Rainforest Animals. Let's take a look! Set#: 31031 Name: Rainforest Animals Theme: Creator Year: 2015 Pieces: 215 Minifigs: None MSP: U.S.$14.99 Peeron Brickset Bricklink The box The box is nothing surprising, the main model, with the two alternates on the side. At a glance, the shades of green used are really attractive. It jumps out off of the shelf, especially compared to a lot of the other Creator sets, which tend to have a lot more sky blue shown. The back of the box shows the 'action' features, such as they are. They will be shown in depth as the review goes on. The booklets The books have images based on the box set. They are cleanly designed with the requisite ads and piece list in the back. The Pieces The set is relatively small, and outside the googly eye printed pieces, nothing was particularly surprising. I love the colours though. The greens are lush. Build One: the piraña The base of the fish is solid, no hollow space in this build. The set(s) uses pieces in an unusual way in places. The bridge of the nose at the front uses two of the pivoting pieces that are normally used for doors and such are stacked and used only to get a nice texture to the front of the fish. Those sorts of irregular piece usage separates professional Lego builds from amateur ones. And a few steps later, it's finished! It's not a complicated build, but it is very, very economical and polished. The fins are solid and don't flop around. The base is stable, it won't fall over. I like the curves on it. It cuts a nice silhouette. And one from behind, for completionists. Build Two: Chameleon The second build is the chameleon. The base of it is solid as the piraña is. It's quite a chunky thing. I think the colours are a little more random than in the piraña, but nature is like that, and the three shades of green play well off of each other. The legs are put on, and I think they work better than they should. The feet are just stacked corner pieces. It works though, and they are very stable. The ability of the head to tilt is smartly restricted. It keeps it from going to unnatural positions. An unused hinge keeps it from flopping down too much. This is my favourite model of the three. It's got a funky quality to it. Build Three: Parrot/frog/fly The fly is a very simple build, and cute too. Next is the frog. Again, not too many steps. The hinged back feet are a clever design. The final frog is pretty nice, and has one action feature: A gaping maw. The shape of the big green slope is very close to an actual frog's shape. Could that be its original purpose? The third build is the parrot. At first I was a little baffled by it. Where is everything going to go? Unlike the other two, this thing is hollow... But there is a purpose for this! Turns out the next step solves a little mystery. The horizontal set is turned up, and feet are put on. The next steps build a very well designed head, that snaps on top. This kind of reminds me of the parrot from those Three Caballeros cartoons. Anyway, he's built, and he's a beaut. Of the three, this definitely uses the colours the best. The wings look surprisingly organic, and can splay out like a real bird's might. And go back. This is the weird thing. The head tilts back so you can feed it, as seen on the box. The set comes with four little beige pellets. So why was the inside hollow? Well, the tail pops up and... The bird poops? I guess that's what they're going for. It's interesting, anyway. So that's the third build. It uses a majority of the pieces, and is the one with the most natural colour scheme. The Final Verdict Design: 10/10 I have to review this on what it is: a set under $15 with multiple builds. It's not mind blowing, but nowhere in the set does anything rub the wrong way. The proportions seem right, except possibly the fly. Build: 7/10 It's not boring, but it's not anything I've never done. The parrots feet are interesting, and I like seeing the snot techniques in the build. Playability: 8/10 The fish isn't playable at all. But the piraña, parrot and frog are posable. And kids love things with pooping action. Price: 10/10 I thought this was $30 at first, but upon checking, no, it's $15. I thought $30 would be reasonable, but at $15, it's a good deal. And I love all the colourful, curved slope pieces in the set. Overall: 9/10 This is a solid set, not a must have, but a set that shows what a creative, smart toy Lego can be, away from licenses and flick fire missiles. I would recommend this as a present for any young person. So, it's good. My personal favourite build was the chameleon, and my daughter liked it too, using it as a dragon to fight with Mario, until she smashed it into oblivion. It unlocked her imagination, and that's what this stuff is all about, right?

We teach students how to take professional-looking pictures and to write detailed opinions and facts about sets. A combination of in-depth lessons and one-on-one interaction teaches students everything from the basics of reviewing to neat tips and tricks to give reviews that extra flair. We are celebrating the sixth year of the Reviewers Academy. When the Academy first began, there was no telling what future it would hold.
