    Classic Space Koenig Monster

Back in 2017, I finished my second version of the Koenig Monster from the Macross anime series. My first version was about another third larger, but the joints just couldn't handle the weight, and I subsequently decided to downsize and try again. Fortunately, I was able to make it work. Initially, I wanted to use a two-tone tan with red accents as the color scheme, based upon some art I found online, but as I worked on fleshing out ideas in LDD, I discovered to my dismay that a number of the parts I needed weren't available in the tans at the time, and having accumulated a lot of blue and gray, decided, like my first attempt, to just build it in Classic Space colors and styling. It stands about 15 and a half inches tall to the tips of its cannons, transforms without removing parts between all three modes, is fully articulated, and features retractable landing gear in shuttle mode. Since these pics were taken, I've since updated the canopy section with a more line-art accurate access panel using the 4x4 trans-yellow dish from last year's Batcave set. Eventually I'll take some pics. Hope you like. https://www.flickr.com/photos/95379588@N08/44181063412/in/album-72157666939175729/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/95379588@N08/42422129770/in/album-72157666939175729/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/95379588@N08/44181265472/in/album-72157666939175729/
  3. LEGO Fighter jet transformer mech - similar with vf 1 valkyrie It looks like the Zeta gundam also. :)
  4. I've seen a few attempts on the internet to produce a Lego Robotech/Macross transformable mecha... with varying degrees of success. After looking at a bunch of pics of other designs (especially one from Daikoncat) I decided to tackle the challenge of coming up with my own. The result was this: Whilst I'm reasonably happy with the balance between proportions and mechanics, there are a number of details I had to compromise on for either form or function. With that in mind, I've set myself the goal of a minifig scale version, that is transformable and in keeping with proportions of the original material. I've started with the pilot/cockpit module... playing around with a few ideas. The idea here is that the pilots seat will be able to maintain orientation in fighter/guardian and battloid modes. I'm already thinking of replacing the technic pins on each side with 3/4 pin (32002) and a thin 3L lift arm (6632), so that this module will fit inside space 5 studs wide. My thinking at this point is to make the cockpit and forward fuselage module with a central spine/frame constructed out of lift arms, pins and axles, depending on where articulation points will be. Unlike my earlier, smaller version, where the mechanism that mounts the legs is external to the forward fuselage, I'd like this to be internal in the larger version. I found a series of images online that shows the transformation sequence to Battloid mode involves essentially hinging the legs forward, having them attach to the nose of the fuselage, then detaching the original mount underneath and behind the cockpit. Minifig scale is about 1:42 scale based on height, 1:25 based on width. The previous version was 33 studs (26cm) long, making it about 1:55 scale. I'm thinking this one will need to be at least 1:25 scale which will make the finished build about 50cm in length, just over 62 studs. No doubt somewhere in all this I'll have to make the compromise in terms of form, function and features... but for now, I'll start with the cockpit and work my way out.
  5. I wanted something to display with my SDF-1 MOC, what would the Macross be without her squadron of variable fighters. Well in my case they are not very "variable", I didn't build them to be transformable. I just wanted them to be in battroid mode. As always the MOCs have been built in LDD, unfortunately I don't have the necessary amount of bricks to just go ahead and prototype. Brick count is 1051 including the gun pod. Note: I had to link to the images from the FB page, for some reason the upload feature didn't work for me.

    Lego Macross SDF-1

Back in December 2015 I posted a Lego Digital Designer WIP of my Macross SDF-1. It's been 12 months since then and the build is no longer just digital. Along the way I made a number of changes, including some improvements to the structural integrity. Around 9000 bricks have been used for the SDF-1 itself. Additional 2000 bricks for both carriers, which are not in the pictures. I opted to make the build not transformable. I wanted something sturdy that can be picked up and moved if necessary, not something flimsy that would collapse under it's own weight. Total length of the build is 1.1 meters or around 43 inches.

    [MOC] WIP LDD Macross SDF-1

Earlier this year a member of our local LUG posted a video of a MOC of the SDF-1. I was fascinated and took a closer look at the video to study the creation. To my disappointment, quite a number of the parts were custom made or modified. That inspired me to build my own SDF-1 without making use of modified or custom bricks. I started in April, and this is the SDF-1 in its current state. It's 150 studs long which is 1.20 meters. The brick count is around 9800, including the two ARMD carrier vessels and the stands. I'm still trying to fix some areas, but ultimately, it's my goal to turn this beast into real bricks. Facebook page
  8. Lego 31034 - Macross Valkyrie Alternative build. Review and transformation video here : This design is based on fighter jet valkyrie from the Japanese Animation "Macross". I have try to design the transformation as accurate as possible. But with the limited parts and joints in set 31034, this is the best I can do. The playability of this model is almost none, it tends to break apart when I try move it. Well, at least it has the looks that I satisfy with. Let me know if you would like to build it :-) Build instruction video in LDD below: Thanks for Watching.
