[MOC][LDD] Plo and Obi-wan's Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptors

That was a protracted process because I was working off only 1 piece of reference material (http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/starwars/images/9/94/Plo_Koon's_Jedi_Starfighter.jpg/revision/latest?cb=20061207163510), and it took a long time to begin placing important marks on the model so that the rest of the design would follow the source material as closely as possible. I haven't done much painting at all, so doing this was a learning experience. Some of the edges are cleaner than others, due to some amateur masking, but I'm pleased enough with the final result. I have a series of progress photos documenting the project basically from start to finish. (warning: ~30 images will pop up) Not much has changed from the original version, but most of what has concerns the rear section. I also managed to include retracting landing gear inside the bulbs of the engines, which in hindsight was a no-brainer for how simple it was to incorporate. I was forced to paint some parts dark red, dark blue, and white simply because they aren't currently available, but I tried to restrain doing that too much to keep myself in Lego territory and away from modelmaking. The build itself is pretty solid and "swooshable" I guess. My main issue with the build, which I gave up on correcting when completing the revised versions, is that the cockpit section rises up higher than it should (ie, it's too fat). Using the 12x3 wedge plate made that impossible to fix (for me), but I think it's not too bad. The other thing I'm not sure about is the angle of the wedge from the tip of the nose backward - to my eye, it seems like the ship itself is a little bit too narrow. I haven't been able to find much blueprint or schematic-style reference to look at this so it will have to do for now. A word about scale: the real thing is listed as 8 meters long so I used that as a starting point (well, retroactively). Using a scale of 4 studs = 1 meter, it should be 32 studs long. The build is 36 long. I'm going to pin that down to the angle of the wedge - if the tip of the nose was warped back 3 studs, that might fix the angle. But i have to call it a day on this one I think so I finish other things. I have left notes on some of the photos on my flickr profile, please do take a look. Hello there! Here is my second iteration of one of my favorite ships of Star Wars -- the Delta-7 Aethersprite Delta-7 Jedi Starfighter. @khatmorg & @atlas_er are big influences on this design -- especially the cockpit area of @khatmorg's, and the wings by @atlas_er. Biggest difference in mine is the overall length; it's shorter by two studs (which I think is more accurate). Making it a little smaller in comparison, but still has a lot of detail. Overall I'm really happy with how it came out. I tried my best to eliminate all gaps, and make it smooth as possible. I've very proud of the green accent on the back wings, and how I was able to keep the front wing/hood area smooth. The only thing I'm bummed about is that I couldn't squeeze in rear landing gear, but I love how the smooth underside came out. And the little bit of stickering on the back section to better convey the curve of the green. It's quite sturdy, but it does have some weakish points in the design. Thanks for checking it out! The Havoc is the pirate Nym's Scurrg H-6 Bomber from the old Starfighter games on PS2 and Xbox. I've posted a couple of earlier models since 2018 and this is the final version of this ship - of which I am now happy to present building instructions for those who wish to include this powerful craft in their Lego collection - there are 1320 pieces required, most of which are very common parts. I've gathered as much data as possible about the ship and included every specification and detail that I could possibly find, so that the ship features stations for 2 astromech droid co-pilots, seating for 3 passengers, guns galore including a rotating roof turret, retractable landing gear and an energy-bomb dropper within the undercarriage. I picked up this set recently and really like it, it’s pretty iconic and unique! I wasn’t happy with how high up Obiwan’s starfighter was positioned in the ring though, like everyone else I guess, so I’ve made a few simple changes which I hope improve the overall look. I lowered the ‘cross bar’ by about two bricks by first building up to instruction step 179 (leaving out the black pins in step 116 and skipping all the plate building steps 143 to 162) and then in step 180 connecting the upper trans Technic arms so that the 4L axle slotted in two holes lower down than in the instructions, see the pictures. Now the cams at the end of the cross bar still connected to the rim in step 182 but importantly hanging below those two LBG technic axle pin connectors (at 3 and 9 o’clock on the ring, built in steps 101 and 103). Then I added a single layer of bricks to the cross bar and built the plate docking area on top (following steps 143 to 162 missed earlier). I didn’t like those flappy panel pieces so further modified the dock area by taking them off, rearranging the curved slopes and adding a couple of new wedge plates on hinges that fit snugly either side of the fighters wings. For the whole mod I only added 22 new pieces and repositioned a few others; the white 2x10 plate and dark red inverted slopes under the fighter that get reused in the front of the dock, as does the dark red 1x6 tile and the 1x2 white tile (plus two white 1x1 plates) replaces it to support the fighter. The mod is a long way from movie-accurate but I think the set definitely looks better with the starfighter closer to the centre of the ring and fitting more snugly in the dock. Getting the fighter to connect below the cross bar will require a big rebuild which I don’t really want to do but I may try to get it positioned further back, like in the film. I may also add more pieces to the docking area to smooth it out but for now this is an easy and cheap mod with a big visual effect. If you’ve got any other suggestions I’d be happy to hear them! -
This is my version of khatmorg's incredible delta-7 model (which you should view here www.flickr.com/photos/95628537@N02/8735306298/in/dateposted/ and here http://www.eurobrick...2931&hl=delta-7) . I originally built their model as per the original build over a year ago but a few months ago I started fiddling with it and have now arrived at a point where I'm satisfied with it. It was difficult to find other ways to achieve some angles (the source is so good already!) especially in the back and as a result that area is quite fragile and use some illegal connections. Most of the changes are concerned with the bottom, spine and rear sections. I haven't been able to find a way to find a way to hide some little landing gears in the back of the wedge where it fattens out a bit yet so the ones you can see in the other photos are just attached externally. Also it is about 8 to 10 studs too long as a result of the angle of the 1x3 wedge plate, according to the rough scale I used. That isn't ideal for me as I like to scale it right to a degree, but the additional detail you can add on a bigger model is good as well. I also wanted to try an alternative solution to miniaturise the dual laser cannons, and add the other half on the bottom but haven't solved that issue either. I might pick this up again later and play with it some more but for now I'm content to reveal it. I hope all of you enjoy. Thanks to khatmorg for being so great about sharing their creation. [MOC] Obi-Wan's Delta-7 Aethersprite-class light interceptor

Hey peeps, I finally got my hands on the new Obi-Wan so I thought it was time to show off my Delta-7 MOC! I bought the mini for the droid but the plaque sure came in handy! Landing gear deployed. Grrr flying is for droids! Obi-Wan climbing in to have a look at Anakin's GPS location. A closer look at the controls and Obi-Wan's uncomfortable looking seat. Ambushed by destroyer droids! After this years (underwhelming) release of one of my favorite ships, I thought I'd give it a go and make my own. I was inspired by khatmorg's & atlas_er's versions, and I borrowed some ideas from them and also did some things that make mine unique. I actually built khatmorg's version and really enjoyed it, but I thought it should be a bit larger and a bit more detailed. I also wanted to have retractable landing gear and a realistic underbelly. I've started collecting legos and building a few sets first, and then mocs early this year after a very long break. Since I'm a fan of Star Wars - the original trilogy and the clone wars 3d series - I naturally gravitated towards the Star Wars license of LEGO. The first MOC I build was a re-build of Mike Psiaki's X-Wing, since I love the X-Wing and his MOC really convinced me, so I brick-linked the bricks I didn't have and built the beauty using his instructions. I'm generally a fan of the Star Wars spacecraft, especially the starfighters and other small to mediumsized varieties. I find it challenging to build something relatively small in Minifig scale and still get the proportions, angles and shapes as right as possible with lego bricks. My first MOC project I'd like to share here is nothing special, but something that's fun and challenging to me and has been done by lego and some other MOCers, like KielDaMan here on this forum, before: Ahsoka's Jedi Starfighter. I set out to do the following: Get the shape and proportions as right as possible while still allowing for important features like a complete removable astromech (not just the head), retractable landing gear, an 'airtight' cockpit roomy enough to comfortably house the Ahsoka Minifig, and a brick-built colour scheme that's not too blocky (so no stickers or spray-painting), and avoid blockyness generally as much as possible. I've build the model over and over again, until I arrived at something I dare to share here. Also note that the astromech is not the correct one - I've already ordered Ahsoka's from a minifig shop here in Germany, though. This is a WIP (no MOC is ever finished, isn't it?), and I'm a relative newbie, so be kind, please . Edit: Updated this OP with an image of the finished build. I was bored one day, so I decided to build the 75087 Anakin's Custom Jedi Starfighter in LDD, then, I took a copy of it, changed around some colors, and pieces, and then I ordered all pieces I needed, then I ended up with this. Sorry for the large pictures I know it's not perfectly to scale, and there are a few details I tried to get, but couldn't, and I feel that if this were an official Lego set, they would of used decals for those particular things, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

This is my version of sydag's wonderful delta-7 model (which you should view here www.flickr.com/photos/sydag/sets/7215765181084275), which also incorporates elements of legorevolution's model (www.flickr.com/photos/legorevolution/albums/7215762721077...). Originally I just built legorevolution's eta-2 as per the instructions, but a while later i found sydag's version of the ship, which blew me further away. I ended up having a cockpit module from legorevolution and the wings from sydag's. But I did this before he produced his instructions and also showed his lovely series of fighters, so parts of the wings were not exactly the same to begin with. For a while I was satisfied and they began collecting dust while I did other things. I can't remember exactly when but in the second half of last year I picked it up again and started putting together obi-wan's red interceptor from the same battle, and the blue one that goes to Utapau. I fiddled with these for a while, but because I didn't have all of the parts I needed for obi-wan's ships, this one was the template for the rest. I basically finished it then, but without sticker details. This weekend I sat down and put those on, and here we have it. I'm quite proud of this one, although it's definitely too big. But that's alright with me because I felt that the movie ships themselves were unrealistically small anyway. So here you have it. Large chunks of this have remained untouched from the source material (in lego), but there are several areas, including the back wing sections, the bottom, and most of the cockpit which I have rearranged to suit my personal preferences.
