    [K-B08] Season Unending

Location: B08 Greater Direstan Tags: Land Vehicle, Civil Building ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Although the Kawashita Group, and, to a lesser extent, M.A.N.T.I.S., has a strong presence on Greater Direstan, much of the colonization effort here has not been overtly affiliated with one megacorp or another. The Golden Rocket is an excellent example of this. Built a only a few short years ago, this establishment offers drinks, music, and relaxed dining, offering fresh-backed New York Style pizza - a delicacy among spacefarers, since the ingredients are too bulky to carry aboard warships, even ones such as the Variga, during extended cruises. Silvia and I were here for dinner. It was the last evening of our three weeks' leave, a special thank-you gift from branch executive Ender for the letter-perfect execution of our part in Operation Star-Lord. The details of what it entailed were above the pay grade of a crew of freelancers such as ourselves, but we must have pleased somebody back in the fleet, because leave time can be hard to find for special forces. It had been quite some time since Silvia and I had had a chance to sit down together for dinner. With the crew of the Variga being so small, we often had to cover different watches. That routine can take a toll on relationships, and I was glad of a chance to enjoy my beautiful wife's company and have a good time. Perhaps I was enjoying myself too much. I never heard the door open, and before I knew what was happening, I heard the low throb of a stun ray, and Silvia fell forward onto the table. My combat-trained reflexes kicked in, and I just avoided the second shot. There were four of them - two men, and two things that appeared to be robots. Even when on vacation, I am always armed. I rolled out of the booth and whipped out my concealed pistol. My first shot caught the younger man in the thigh, and he went down with a high-pitched cry. The two robots went down with a shot each, and I turned my attention to the remaining man. To my horror, he had dropped his own weapon and hauled Silvia out of the seat. He was on his way out the door, dragging her behind him. I struggled past the robots and the moaning form of the young man and burst out the door - just in time to see my dearest's unconscious form stuffed unceremoniously into the front of one of a pair of brightly-colored speeders, followed a moment later by the mustachioed man. The engines were already running, and before I could stumble down the steps and catch hold of the speeder, it was gone. I fired after it, but in vain. My small pistol had no accuracy at range, and the speeder was gone in seconds. I touched the communicator at my belt. "Variga, two and a speeder to pick up at these coordinates. This is a code red." "As of this moment, we are at war." ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ My biggest minifig-scale build yet - also my biggest and most detailed interior yet. I planned on building a flower garden between the foundation and the pavement, but I ran out of time and energy. The speeders are my first minifig-scale vehicle in years. I build the micro version (kinda blurry, will have to get a decent picture of it up tomorrow), and then decided I would need minifig-scale version or two. I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out, considering that's not exactly my area of expertise. There have been so many great versions of Viktor Kramer's face over time - I'm really enjoying being able to tinker with his expressions now. "Season Unending" is a reference to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

    [K-B08] Crash Landing

Mission: Stay alive Tags: Spaceship, Greater Direstan, Exploration, Flying in the KSG-99 Col. Brik and his crew are surprised by a unknown occurance "Sir...I have detected a massive energy force that is going to hit us in moments!!!" "Take evasive action, NOW!!!" "Sir, I did...but the energy source changed direction and is going to colli......" "This is Col. Brik, I am in a escape pod and my heading is Greater Direstan, repeat, I am heading to in a unknown direction and need help ASAP!" "Sir, can you read us? We cannot determine your area or even planet you crashed on......Sir...." "This isn't good, contact Raven and explain we have a Fig down."
  3. Location: B08 - Greater Direstan, Koidzumi Veldt Tags: Vehicle, Land Vehicle, Exploration, Military {Begin Log Transmission} Verdi's been unusually restless since reading SpacerSteve's last report. The translator is getting better at interpreting his rustles and squeaks...seems he (she? it?....really what is the proper pronoun for a plant?) takes "Vegetable Rights" very seriously and insists we exact revenge on the critter SpacerSteve sited.... We were able to track our prey to the edge of the Koidzumi Veldt, where we set up camp. Our first task was to unload and set-up the WZ-112 Sniper cannon... Verdi monitored the Targeting Console while we set up in our position.... Klaus served as an excellent spotter.... And now we wait......Klaus notes that there are many broken trees about... Oh yeah, the truck....Accountant Long hooked me up with a sweet Citroën DS-181 "Chassemaître" Safari Cruiser... 30 years ago, it was the top of the line in SEV's (Safari Exploration Vehicle) and, honestly, no one has come any where near her quality and versatility since.... Finally, the computer indicates our target has come into range... We get in position and make a visual confirmation..... Taking aim........ FIRE!!! The Hunting Drone confirms our kill...not bad for 34 kilometers..... Klaus: "Wait......I've got something else..... "Yep....Kawashita mines....that explains all the broken trees. We will need to be careful while recovering the carcass. Are they encrypted? Can we remote detonate them?" Klaus: "Scanning now.....let's get that meat while it's still fresh!" We uploaded our scans to the science division.....perhaps they can decode the mines' command software, for now, we'll have to blast these...and perhaps break a few more trees...... ======================================== Thanks for visiting....

    [M-B08] MANTIS Utility Truck

Location: B08, Greater Direstan Tags: Vehicle, Land Vehicle Job: Driver Start Log: Back to driving a wheeled vehicle, as I use a standard MANTIS Utility Truck to deliver some supplies: I'm donating the truck to Donations for Charity so it is possible to buy it
  5. Tags: Land Vehicle, Spaceship Planet: B08, Greater Direstan Character Explanation Agent Urtem and Da King have been dispatched to investigate rumors of Kawashita growing Awesomium infused grain on Greater Direstan. Why are we here? There ain't any Kentucky Rain like I was promised! We have a mission to take down this Kawashita installment. The rain part was just so you'd shut up. Why you! .....Wait, what's that? *Looks up* It's a Kawa patrol ship! We need a distraction........... Hey King I think you're a great field operative! Really? *Stands up on rock* You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em.... Sir! There is an Insane robot standing in the field. Well shoot it already! I didn't get this big a hat for nothing! *Opens Fire* Thank ya. Thank ya very much. Urtem sneaks around into the outpost. Hands in the air! This area is M.A.N.T.I.S. property now. Are you delivering my new hat or my poker chips? ....... My build for the week. Taking some inspiration from Pombe with a whole cast of characters. The land vehicle is a hover tank on the ground by the base. Thanks for looking.
  6. Location: B08 - Greater Direstan Tags: Vehicle, Land Vehicle Klaus and I have been dispatched to a large grassy plain, known as Section F12, on Greater Direstan. We've been told to expect Kawashita resistance, but so far have seen nothing but a small outcropping of rocks.... All of the grasses have a strange...."sweet, skunky" smell to them.....they burn on the exhaust and release a sweet herbal smoke... We both feel much better now than when we landed.....what an enjoyable drive! Of course, the Vespa / Lotus GX4 makes navigating uneven terrain a breeze... It's powered by a battery of Wankel Engines, allowing us to burn most native petrols and solvents as a fuel source. Klaus loves the Twin Anti-proton cannons.... "Klaus, perhaps we should burn some more of these grasses before heading back to the ship...?"
  7. CHAPTER 1: DAWN OF THE RED SUN On a race to become the most powerful corporation, mysterious KAWASHITA GROUP lastly arrives in the Andromeda system. Setting foot on flourishing planet ORINSHI, the enterprise briskly sends its fleet to the four corners of space, ready to conquer unknown paths filled with undiscutable richness, and that, by all means… ---------- Log 1 - Sunset On the Future With its new cybernetic legs operational, Kawashita pilot N.R Marcus leaves Orinshi with the Second Branch’s colonial fleet. They stop on Greater Direstan as the sytem’s sun sets on the horizon… ---------- The journey was long and hard. I've been stuck for 2 weeks in metal containers. First was Orinshi's medical center... Can you believe it: facing such beautiful surroundings, luxuriant jungles, grassy plains and extraordinary wildlife, but unable to touch 'em. Every morning I jumped out of bed, forgetting that my legs are gone. I hopelessly crash on the floor. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. I just couldn't remember. A very weird feeling to experiment. Then, it was the journey to Greater Direstan when the 2nd branch colonial ship picked me up. I tell ya' that was one heck of a bumpy ride. I've heard marvels of our warp drives, but they're far from perfect, they're irregularly stabilized. Bumpy... And I couldn't move out of bed, recovering from my earlier surgery. At least, when I jumped out of bed this morning I landed on my feet. They're a bit clunky and cold, but I'll get used to it. When our ship finally landed on the rocky outpost, I had to get out, to feel fresh air, new air. I staggered to the closest opened deck. My legs were still hurting and wobbling but I forgot it all when I reached the outside deck. The sea was pitch black and the sky burning yellow. Everything was clear, peaceful, strange and lonely. I knew Terra was far, far away... "N.R Marcus, you are required in Bay 05 for mission briefing." I woke up from my trance. Well, beauty doesn't last. How long was I there looking at the horizon? A minute? An hour? I was about to leave for Bay 05 when I received another transmission - coded: "Marcus, I hope you enjoyed your trip! My name is Mr. Nagashi, from the council. Meet me in office 343 as soon as possible. I have a mission for you. High priority" I stood there, surprised... The council? Did he say he was... from the council?! It can't be. Just what could they be doing on a colonial fleet? And they would call me of all things? It's not right... They're up to something. The sunset of Greater Direstan I tried to force the perspective with this build, but it's hard to make the illusion! I had a more detailed background at first and the "Ship deck" extends with details to the back. But taking it all in one shot proved futile (too crowded), so I scrapped everything and went with very simple elements, which ended a bit better ** This build is inspired by Kosmas Santosa's (one of my favourite builders) Senja (https://www.flickr.com/photos/kosmassantosa/16605586408/in/faves-131957354@N02/). I tried to give it a sci-fi twist. I wish my colors were as vibrant, but I don't have artificial light yet... ** More details and behind-the-scene pictures to come!

    [K - B08] Samurai Ranger making contact

Greater Direstan Mission control. "Commander, can you give an update on your current scenario?" "I am approaching the drilling coordinates. The land here is fertile but does not appear to have much in the way of sentient life. Hold on, I may have to reconsider that. I see something..." "Commander, what is it you see?" "Only the cutest little thing! Isn't it sweet? Can you see it on my vid stream?" "Yes Commander, very sweet. How long until you reach the coordinates?" "I'm taking it with us." "Sir, are you entirely sure-" "As your commanding officer, I am entirely sure that this little thing is adorable!" More: Mandatory Flickr link.

    [K-B08] I am so lost...

Location: Greater Direstan, Planet B08 tags, Kawashita, Spaceship, Greater Direstan Mission 01 Arriving in the Andromeda galaxy I find myself overwhelmed with information. The Kawashita group accepted my application for Pilot in their growing force. It feels comfortable, something I haven't had in years. Traveling from galaxy to galaxy. So lost. My orders where quick once I arrived at Kawashita HQ. "Head to Greater Direstan by Sunday". I hope I made it on time for this week. I've landed in my scout ship. No way am I showing the big stuff right away, gotta feel this galaxy out. I will use this weird tracking device to begin searching for important minerals. Water or Awesomnium. Either will get me in good with the group. I hope that fire from the engine heat doesn't spread....
  10. Kawashita Engineer's Log - AC - B08 Greater Direstan Having arrived at the bottom of a range of mountains on Greater Direstan, we found a series of caves. I'm not sure they look like natural formations, but whether they are natural or not, there's plenty of awesomnium veins in them. I'm trying out a prototype mining drill to see how well it works. There's a pulse laser doing the actual cutting, so all the maneuvering of the vehicle is done using displays on the control panels. Don't want to have an accident with one of these things. As pieces of the rock are cut, they drop onto the conveyor belt which carries the material behind the vehicle and into waiting transports where it will be taken away for the awesomnium to be separated from the rest of the rocks. Not the greatest photography. Additional photos in the spoiler tags. Can't see in the photos clearly, but there's a control wheel on both sides of the driving position and the pulse laser can rotate left to right and angle up and down.

    [K - B08] - Guarding Awesomnium

Location: B08 - Greater Direstan Tags: Civil, Science After being relieved from his post on Magrathea, Graham discovers that his new task on Greater Direstan is no better than the last. A large amount of Awesomnium was discovered and he must guard the area until proper mining equipment arrive.

    [K - B08] Mission Accomplished!

Mission Log: Entry 3 ~ What a week! It took us a while to get here - we had to navigate back through the Hamilton Belt and deliver the awesomnium to HQ on Orinshi, stopping to refuel on Serium before setting off on our latest - and potentially most dangerous - mission. First stop: Greater Direstan. I left the pilot and my android assistant with the shuttle and began my search for awesomnium - but I did not search on foot. Due to the vast size of the plains here, it would have taken me days to get to the mountains where awesomnium can be found - and we didn't have days. So I used a revolutionary new method of transport - the prototype Kawashita Expeditionary Transport (or KET for short). However, its nickname is the Scorpion (for obvious reasons). This is its first test on a foreign planet - and it's definitely passed. The thing's a wonder - sleek, speedy and fashionably quirky. Anyway, it wasn't long before I spotted the first sign of awesomnium - crystals catching the sun's glare, in the mountains on the far horizon. It won't be long before I'm there! Figless: The KET "Scorpion": [ This is my first attempt at building a small vehicle; and my first proper attempt at forced perspective. C&C appreciated! ]
  13. Location: B08 - Greater Direstan Tags: Vehicle Voice Log of Mister S: "Greater Direstan - B08. Kawashita Group has achieved its objectives on Serium and the Hamilton Belt, so I once again have been transferred to a new planet. I guess I should look forward to new scenery every week for a while. Our assembly bots set up several Awesomnium plants here in the mountain ranges of Greater Direstan and since there was no more important use for my driving skills, I was tasked with operating a converted Sentinel Mech in unloading one of the conveyer belts. Drudgery. At least I can hope that next week will bring a more exciting task."
