[MOC] HWK-290 - The Moldy Crow

Hello everyone! This is my first submission to showcase one of my first MOCs I ever worked on a few years ago of the HWK-290, The Moldy Crow, from the video game series Dark Forces / Jedi Knight. I noticed that another user has recently posted their own MOC, @millenniumf and has done a fantastic job with theirs. Some aspects of their creation have me itching to revisit this design and make some modifications. You can find their MOC of the Moldy Crow here. My model is pulled straight from the design of someone named Suboken, that can be seen here on previous 2015 EuroBricks post. More images of his Moldy Crow MOC can be found here on Flickr. My version was a little modified on the outside appearance. I chose to go with a dark tan instead of dark orange as the pieces were much more accessible in that color. I modified the exterior with small panels to make it look quite a bit more rough instead of the smooth exterior of the original design. I also made the model a bit more functional by adding a few features. I hollowed out the tops for some small storage room. Then I installed a slide-out panel from the side that holds several tools / accessories for our heroes. And on the opposite side I installed a launcher that pops out. None of these things are from the actual ship... I just wanted something a bit more unique and detailed and fun. I hope you all enjoy my MOC! Would love some constructive criticism and suggestions. Sorry the images aren't exactly the best - just taken with a mobile phone camera. But hopefully this gives you an idea of what I've created. I am considering fixing the angled windows on the sides. I first was thinking to use stickers but had NO IDEA how to do that. One of the worst features of my version is the windows are boxy haha. ENJOY! My custom Kyle Katarn minifig I purchased from here at Firestar Toys. My custom MOC Weegee droid from the video game, Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight. Belonged to Kyle's father, Morgan Katarn.
  2. For my latest MOC I decided to create the Arc Hammer, which was the large Imperial vessel featured in the Dark Forces video game way back in 1995. The Arc Hammer served as a production facility for the Dark Troopers. They were sort of a cross between droids and super soldiers. The Arc Hammer was also seen in the strategy game Empire at War. I included several images throughout the thread that I used for reference and inspiration, enjoy! [MOC] The Moldy Crow 2015 with Custom Minifigs

This MOC and custom minifig set is based on the starship and characters featured in the 1995 LucasArts video game Star Wars Dark Forces and its 1997 sequel, Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II. I've recently submitted this project to LEGO Ideas to try and get it officially produced by LEGO: https://ideas.lego.com/projects/121705 The unique look of this starship helped make it a fan favorite in the Star Wars gaming community. During my first play-through of the game, I found The Moldy Crow's design enigmatic and fascinating. Figuring out how to build a version of The Moldy Crow using LEGO was as much fun as playing the video games it was featured in. This was my first MOC and was built in 2010. Our family’s LEGO building passion started with building classic Star Wars star-fighter LEGO sets. Once we had a decent representation of both Imperial and Rebel fighters, we realized that we needed some "rogue" ships to balance out the collection. At the time the only two LEGO sets available were Han Solo's Millennium Falcon and Boba Fett's Slave 1. The Moldy Crow immediately came to mind as a great ship to add to our collection. While searching online for references of the ship, two color schemes were often presented. Most of the in-game screen shots leaned towards using Dark Tan as the ship's primary color. However, several custom made illustrations and model kits presented The Moldy Crow using rust colors, similar to LEGO's Dark Orange bricks. I decided to use the Dark Orange color scheme because it looked better amongst our other Star Wars sets, and because (at the time) LEGO pieces available in Dark Orange had the specific shapes I was looking for. I modified the MOC over the summer (2015) to clean up the build, getting it ready for its submission to LEGO Ideas. I hope you like.
