Functional grain elevator with working hopper car (4536 MOD) and ALCO diesel A+B units

(I thought I had made a topic for this model by itself, but i can't find it. All I could find was it in a compilation thread from 2014.) I have recreated this grain elevator designed by my father way back in 1999. The building was built for the loading of hoppers like set 4536 (1991's Blue Hopper Car) or 10017 (2001's Hopper Wagon). This building has never been really well done officially, but it was touched upon in 3677 (2011's Red Cargo Train). However, grain hopper cars have been made at least four times in official sets, with the fourth model being in set 60098. (Heavy-Haul cargo train) I enlarged the opening for the filling of the grain cars by two studs width-wise so that larger engines and cars can fit through, such a steam engines with working side-rods. The building features a handle on the other side or operating the conveyor belt. The handle turns the conveyor belt to drop 1 x 1 round bricks into the funnel and the hopper car below. Though if it gets turned the wrong way, they drop into the bowels of the building to pop out of the bottom of the building where the base-plate would go, onto the table top itself. Here we see the hole I left in case "grain" went the wrong way on the conveyor belt, so it can fall out the bottom and not get stuck inside the model. This is an updated red version of set 4536 (Blue Hopper Car) from 1991. This green version uses a click hinge and platform to dump 1 x 1 round bricks out of the bottom of the hopper. The diesel locomotive model was inspired by Valgarise and his model called "Invencible".(see it here ) It looked like an nice big ALCO model so I copied it and built a matching booster unit in green as seen above. (although originally it was in black with a red base stripe when I first built it) The front unit where the engineer sits is called a Cab (or A) unit, while the trailing unit is called a Booster (or B) unit, though they can be used in more groups than just two, like as an A-B-B-A set as used on the Santa Fe Super Chief. For my purposes, I only use a A-B setup at most. Here is the original grain elevator that inspired my model. It was built around 1999-ish by my father. Comments, Questions, & complaints are always welcome, and the elevator model (plus a half-dozen green hopper cars) should be built by Christmas / beginning of 2019. As you can see, the engine units have already been built. Any thoughts? -
British Rail (BR) class 38 diesel locomotive - 7939 / 60098 inspired MOC

The BR class 38 seen here is a one-off prototype. Engine number 7939 was made in 1989 to compare a Metro-Cammell made class 38 to a Brush Traction built class 60. The class 60 won the contract, and subsequently Metro-Cammell was sold and closed. The single class 38 soldiered on until 1997, when British Railways was fully privatized. The engine was then sold with a number of spare parts to Lego Rail Transportation Society, which has kept the engine running ever since as unit 7940. In the real world, the class 38 was never built. It was proposed and then dropped in favor of the class 60, which is what I based the story on. Metro Cammell really existed and was dismantled in 1989 sometime after loosing out to Brush Traction for the class 60 contract, and everyone knows that British Railways was taken apart in the mid-1990's. This LEGO model is a mash-up of a William Howard's diesel locomotives and the official Lego sets 7939 and 60098, with a set of Anthony Sava-derived three wheel sliding bogies. The rear of the bidirectional loco. The numbers "7940" go on printed 1 x 1 tiles on the sides while "LRTS" goes on the front and rear ends. The color scheme for this model was inspired by the British Rail Class D16/1 (also known as LMS engines 10000 and 10001), the first two mainline diesel locomotives in Great Britain. (see here for more on them.) Both ends of the locomotive have a engineer's cab that opens up to seat a figure at the controls, just like sets 7939 and 60098. Evening All, While we are waiting for the 2016 50th anniversary Creator Train that will be a three-in-one that can be assembled as a Mallard, Challenger or Crocodile. (I may have made that up) I thought it would be interesting to ask what mods are out there for the current Red Cargo Train? I'll start off with my simple MOD to add lights and lower the roof profile. I think this makes a huge difference to the roofline without losing the character of the locomotive. It makes a smooth line from front to rear and gets rid of that unsightly grey stripe. 60098 mod by Canvas Rails, on Flickr At the other end of the spectrum, Lok24 has a MOC that looks a bit like a 60098 on the outside but includes remote uncoupling! Murdoch17, you were doing some great LDD work with this back in May; did you end up building any of your mods in brick when the set came out? MODders, what have you got?

Diesel locomotive (7939 & 60098 style) with matching yellow expres

I was messing around in LDD and looking at pictures of set 60098 (Heavy Haul train, not yet released for 2015. See it here: https://www.flickr.c...s-55973205@N08/ ) when I realized I probably could do a lot better using set 7939, the look-alike Cargo Train from 2010. I turned the electric locomotive into a diesel, and stretched the frame to allow for a beefier engine area. I didn't think about motorizing it with Power Functions until now, but I did make it build-able in two more varieties in case you wanted to color match 60098 with the red one, or maybe build you own engine with the black one. The cab still opens, and the driver can sit down and control the train from either end of the locomotive. This train was designed last year, but was unbuild-able until this year with the release of the back windscreen in trans-clear with a Marvel Superheroes set. The train consists of one baggage car, three passenger cars, and a observation lounge car. The rear car was based on the Milwaukee Road and it's beaver-tail observation cars. The red one is supposed to represent 60098 (Heavy Haul Cargo train), while the yellow one is inspired by 7939 (Cargo Train). The black one is the only other color available for this type of engine. By The Way: the letters BRS should go on the three exposed studs on the sides of the locomotive, while the numbers for the engines should go on the sides of the fuel tank. 7939 for the yellow one, 7045 for the black one (because that's the only set that cockpit part comes in!) and 7944 for the red one, as it matches the other engines in sequence and was used in the 2007 set of that number.
