  1. Jellyeater

    Legrang Gompa

Johnny Thunder goes to the more distant Legrang Gompa to study ancient Buddhist manuscripts to find out where the Marco Polo Treasure is hidden. Monastery is on 48 x 48 baseplate.
  2. Category B - From the office of...: On a maximum footprint of 32x32 create the home work environment of the classic Johnny Thunder characters. From Doctor Charles Lightning's study to the Library at Sinister Mansion, everyone has a space to prepare for future adventure. As with the main category, the figures have to be recognisable as the Adventurer characters as best as possible. The prize up for Grabs is 100 Euro to spend on LEGO sets on the LEGO online shop. Rules Recap: No clone brands but custom figure parts/prints are acceptable. Digital entries are only accepted for the Ride to Adventure category. This must be a new MOC or otherwise significantly different to previously posted builds- For example, a nice statue build already shared can form an element of the new MOC, likewise a desk/bookshelf design. As long as it is not the main or largest part of the contest entry, recycling is allowed within reason. If a vehicle is present as part of the larger categories, it cannot be entered into the Ride to Adventure category. The Great Adventure and From the Office of builds do not have to be assembled onto a baseplate, but must demonstrably be within the stipulated footprint. A scale shot has to be included extra to the entry photos that shows the footprint (ruler, plates, outline. Anything that can be used to prove the MOC sits within the required footprint for the category). Reasonable overhang is limited to incidental points no more than 4 studs over the boundary. A tree branch, flagpole or other small features. Hight limit can be defined if it must, but for now it simply has to be a stable build that does not topple. Entries are to be posted in their own thread with up to three photos to showcase the MOC, not inclusive of the scale photo if required. Further photos can be shared in the MOC thread, indicated to be extra to the chosen entry pictures. A link for your Category B build must be shared here in order to be considered for the contest. Entries posted until 0:00 on 18/08/2023 will be eligible to enter. Discussion of the rules can take place Here. Entries may be frontpaged or shared on social media to promote the contest.
  3. Category A - Great Adventure: Build an adventure on a maximum 48x48 footprint. This can be an epic rebuild of an old set, a new location in a past adventure or a whole new challenge for Johnny Thunder and friends. Treasures, rivals, monsters and ruins; even after 25 years, the Adventurers are ready! While original figures or the obvious callback minifigs from more recent themes are not necessary, the figures at least have to be recognisable as Johnny Thunder and co. The prize up for grabs is 150 Euro to spend on LEGO sets on the LEGO online shop. 4. Category C - Ride to Adventure: Some form of vehicle for an adventurer. From All terrain truck to Dog Sled, an adventurer has to get to their goal. This one allows for Digital Entries and figures that don't have to be Adventurer theme characters. The prize up for Grabs is 50 Euro to spend on LEGO sets on the LEGO online shop. Rules Recap: No clone brands but custom figure parts/prints are acceptable. Digital entries are only accepted for the Ride to Adventure category. 5. Dr. Kilroy retreats to his personal library to record his adventures and plan for new expeditions. Two huge bookshelves brimming with knowledge help him research the flora, fauna, customs, and cultures of any country in the known world. Copies of the maps used in his original adventures hang on the walls of the library, and a large globe helps him plan trips to new destinations. Today, Dr. Kilroy is researching the potential origins of an artifact found on a remote island. Dr. Kilroy's library includes a large desk, a lamp, a comfortable armchair, a large globe, bookshelves with a ladder on a curved rail, and of course, plenty of books. EXTRA PHOTO: Thanks for viewing!
  6. 25 Years of Adventure Category A The Oasis Ambush A rebuild of one of my favorite Adventurers sets: 5938: Oasis Ambush. Despite being a small set, 5938 has almost everything a kid could ask for: A good guy, a bad guy, hidden treasure for them to find, danger to overcome, and a working function of some kind! Plus, the original model itself is unique, recognizable, and lends itself well to re-imaginings. Not only does my re-imagining include the tomb, the palm tree, the mummy, the scorpion, OG Sam Sinister / Slyboots, and (of course) Johnny Thunder, but it also includes an oasis and ... Well, an ambush. Actually, two ambushes of sorts. Johnny Thunder, blissfully unaware, bathes in the oasis after wandering the desert for days in search of the tomb. He brought his trusty comb and hand-mirror to help him stay clean, but in the corner of the mirror he catches a glimpse of something ... Slyboots! Or is it Sam Sinister? Anyway, Slyboots has managed to ambush Johnny Thunder. He has swiped the Golden Spear, and clearly has the upper hand. However, grabbing the Spear has awakened ... (EXTRA PHOTO) ... The Mummy, eyes glowing red, out to punish the one who dislodged the Golden Spear! The impetus for making Johnny Thunder get ambushed while bathing stemmed from the fact that his only expression is a smiling one. If he was ambushed by someone, and that someone was in plain view, he probably wouldn't be smiling. A chain was almost connected to the spear and to the lid of the tomb. Although pulling the chain is easy to do with the original set (5938), this would probably take considerable force for a Minifigure to do, so Slyboots probably wouldn't be able to casually pull the chain while aiming a pistol at Johnny. Instead, I settled on a magical explanation for the tomb's opening. A few creatures were scattered throughout the build to give life to the oasis. See if you can find them! Thanks for viewing!
  7. I am happy to present my entry in the Category C - Ride to Adventure..."Otto Shnurrbart’s M3 half-track". “In a wild twist of fate, Jack Storm and Harvey Blitheworth find themselves in a sand-swept race against the notorious tomb robbers led by Otto Shnurrbart. Determined to protect their newly liberated sarcophagus of Amset-Ra, our heroes dart across the desert like caffeinated roadrunners, with Otto's goons hot on their heels. Now, Otto may not be the poster child for subtlety; he's more like a bull in a china shop with a flamethrower. Seriously, his idea of diplomacy is probably smashing through walls and shouting, "I'm here!" It's safe to say there are few obstacles that cannot be overcome by an M3 half-track with a mounted 50 caliber machine gun…” Camel crossing by Gregory Coquelz, on Flickr Camel crossing by Gregory Coquelz, on Flickr Roadkill on the menu by Gregory Coquelz, on Flickr This MOC also happens to be my half of a collaborative display I made with my good friend Pixel Fox for the Paredes Fan weekend 2023. Pixel Fox’s part of the display features the heroes’ Land Rover that is trying to escape the bad guys who are chasing them. The setting of this desert chase scene is inspired by the adventures of Jack Storm, a fictional character invented by Pixel Fox and featured in his LEGO comic “The Island” that can be read here. 8. I am happy to present my entry in the Category B - From the office of....Pharaoh Hotep Can immortal beings go through a mid-death crisis...? And if they can, when on earth would it strike? Well, let's dive into the fascinating tale of Pharaoh Hotep, a timeless ruler who found himself in a pyramid-sized pickle. It all began in 2011, when LEGO released the Pharaoh's Quest series. Talk about an ancient punch in the gut! Hotep had been relegated to the shadows while his rival, Amset-Ra, stole the spotlight as the hero. Deep down, Hotep yearned for a mere cameo, a fleeting moment of fame, but alas, nobody gave a sphinx's whisker about him anymore. This was rock bottom for our bewildered Pharaoh. He spiraled into depression, and even his ever-loyal mummies grew tired of his ceaseless whinging. But hope shimmered like a desert mirage when his therapist dropped a quirky suggestion: "Find a hobby, mate!" Now, Hotep was no ordinary ruler. Well hidden beneath that regal facade beat the heart of a true music enthusiast. So, imagine the astonishment of his entourage when he revealed his newfound passion for... rap music! Pharaoh Hotep underwent a transformative rebirth as "Po-eth" and decided to convert an unused funeral chamber into his personal recording studio. Here he is, adorned in golden chains and draped in royal swag, laying down his epic first single, "The Pharaoh's Rap." And that, my friends, is how an ancient ruler resurrected his groove, proving that even an eternal being can unleash their inner hip-hop superstar. The Pharaoh’s Rap by Gregory Coquelz, on Flickr Recording by Gregory Coquelz, on Flickr Mummy sound engineer by Gregory Coquelz, on Flickr As a bonus, I leave you with the lyrics of Po-eth's 1st single. Listen up, y'all, gather 'round, I'm 'bout to unfold, The tale of Pharaoh Hotep, a legend untold. In ancient Egypt, he ruled the land, Guarding the Re-Gou Ruby with a red iron hand. Hotep, the Pharaoh, resting in his ancient tomb, Traps and puzzles, ready to seal trespassers doom. Johnny Thunder ventured in, seeking the prize, Unaware of the trials, where danger lies. (Chorus) This is the Pharaoh's rap, let it be heard, Po-eth on the mic, droppin' rhymes, absurd. Hotep's domain, where legends come alive, Red hands unleashed, blazing through the vibe. Within the tomb, his legacy remains, Chambers rigged with traps, causing screams and pains. Baron von Barron dared to steal the precious stone, Unaware of the curse that would soon be known. The Ruby vanished, a mysterious feat, Pharaoh Hotep emerged, victory complete. Dragging the Baron into the depths unknown, Red hands glowing, his power fully shown. (Chorus) This is the Pharaoh's rap, let it be heard, Po-eth on the mic, droppin' rhymes, absurd. Hotep's domain, where legends come alive, Red hands unleashed, blazing through the vibe. Hotep's legacy lives on, a timeless tale, His spirit in the rhymes, his rap won't fail. Lego Adventurers, a world of dreams, Where Pharaohs rap and nothing's as it seems. So remember the tale of the Pharaoh's might, Red hands of power, shining through the night. In Lego Adventurers, his story prevails, Po-eth's rap legacy, a treasure that never fails.
  9. I am happy to present my entry in the Category A - Great Adventure Welcome to Camelback Manor, the assisted living facility where Johnny Thunder and Sam Sinister spice up their golden years with thrilling adventures! On this particular day, the grand event was a high-stakes Monopoly game, with a scrumptious cake as the ultimate prize. As luck would have it, Johnny emerged as the victor, playing fair and square. But lo and behold, Sam Sinister, being his mischievous self, had a different opinion. He dramatically points his hook at Johnny, accusing him of cheating with a twinkle in his eye. In a delightful twist, the whole retirement community bursts into laughter, knowing that Sam's accusations hold no weight. However, little does Sam know, Johnny's wheelchair has been secretly modified with turbo boosters, courtesy of their mischievous grandkids. As Sam puffs out his chest, ready to challenge Johnny, our wheeled hero zooms away at lightning speed, leaving Sam in his dust, grinning from ear to ear. And so, the Monopoly game might have ended, but the race for retirement glory has just begun at Camelback Manor!
