Here is my revamped version of 60278 (the cancelled CITY set called "Crook's Hideout Raid"), modified for use by my railroad's Maintenance Of Way (MOW) department, instead of the crooks. The claw crane out in the front lot of the building was inspired by 7596 (Trash Compacter Escape). The MOW department also owns quite a few vehicles that make sure the railroad is running smoothly. The bucket truck is from 3179 (Repair Truck), dump truck is from set 7789 (Lotso's Dump Truck), drill vehicle from 7936 (Level Crossing), the bulldozer is from 60074 (Bulldozer) and the front end-loader from set 7630 (Front End-Loader). The rail mobile is inspired by 40532 (Vintage Taxi) and rolls quite well on the track with no problems in stock switches or standard R40 curves. The front of the facility. Emmet Brickowski runs the facility and it's crew like a well-oiled machine, helping to repair breakdowns in infrastructure / clean up derailments safely, securely, and in a timely manner. Francois' Hardware Store || The Pit || The Asylum I always wanted to make some Modular MOCs but the prospect of the huge pool of available parts seemed daunting. Then a couple of brick orders didn't go exactly the way I expected and so I decided to make the best out of it and try to redesign some of the Modulars as 16 wide buildings. Whether it is because you don't have enough space in your town, or you want a use for a duplicate set you somehow got, or maybe you're just tired of looking at the official model, these alternate builds are a great way to utilize the parts from the original sets. I'm hoping that this will also inspire other would-be-MOCers to try their hand at alternate models as I think they are a perfect way to reuse the bricks. And for me personally the restrictions of the available parts makes it more focused and promotes creativity. I am hoping eventually to redesign all of the Modulars, potentially with the exception of the Pet Shop which is basically already done. So without further ado, I would like to present the first two buildings: Francois' Hardware Store (alternate build of the Fire Brigade), The Pit (alternate build of the Palace Cinema) and The Asylum (alternate build of the Cafe Corner): Francois' Hardware Store The idea behind this one was to reuse all of the equipment from the Fire Brigade in a way that makes sense. A store was the obvious choice as you can display the items as merchandise. The owner is an avid artist who displays his paintings throughout the house as decoration. Lots of furniture, both new and old, fill out the interior and a homemade sculpture adorns the facade. The Pit For the Palace Cinema alternate build, I wanted to really move as far away from the original's look as possible. While the color scheme is obviously limited by the bricks available in the original, there is a substantial amount of blue plates that can be used for accents. Combined with a departure from the original style to the Detective's Office layout, I believe this building can fulfil a very different function in a town layout as well as appeal to people who dislike the Cinema's unique style. In terms of interesting features, I was forced to use a brick-built door for the entrance to the first floor as there was no space for stairs on the ground floor and there is only one actual door piece in the original model. In the end it worked out quite well and it can be easily opened and closed without leaving unsightly gaps, but at the cost of being a tad too wide. There is also a "sliding" french window in the apartment leading out to the balcony. Another interesting problem was the lack of a 16w baseplate. In order to be a "true" alternate model, I didn't want to use one from a different set so instead I managed to find a way to create a pseudo-baseplate from the leftover plates in the set. The main disadvantage here is that the ground is thicker than a standard baseplate, so I would suggest you change it into a standard baseplate if you have a spare one (or use the spare one from the Fire Brigade, if you're building both of the above). The Asylum This particular building highlights how many different parts we often forget about or misremember when it comes to large builds. If you take a look at the stock Cafe Corner modular building, you'll see very little blue. It's prominently featured on the ground floor, though mostly obstructed by other features. The upper floors don't really have any visible blue at all. When doing an alternate model, I try to move as far as possible from the original, because using the same colors automatically evokes the image of the two buildings being related. The Asylum is the first of my MOCs to have a simple story tied to it. Anisse comes in to seek help from doctor Tim E. Discants, but his treatments are not exactly orthodox. The first floor features an admission counter and a White room, intended to hold the patients and keep them from injurying themselves. The second floor houses the Extraction room, enabling the good doctor to extract the "disease" from his patients. That leaves them ready for the Operating room. Suffice it to say, once the patients experience the treatments, they look for any way out. Check out my post further down or click on the link above for more pictures and the full story. I recently received the CREATOR set "Corner Deli" (31050), and I decided it needed an upgrade to better fit my Town's standards. I added a third level and rear walls to all the models' floors. I added a desk for the private eye whose office is on the top floor, plus inside and outside seating on the street level for patrons of the deli. Unfortunately, my creative juices ran out by way of the second floor furniture, so it is sadly empty. The rear of the building features exposed brickwork in places giving this a New York City (or any older big city, really) like feel. The upstairs detective office features a desk, chair,and light with a secret hiding spot for something small, maybe a pistol. This floor is also lacking two of these printed windows. Sadly, their is nothing on this floor as I couldn't think of what to put in there. The Deli sign hooks onto the outdoor balcony, next to the rainwater downspout I added to every floor. The lowest floor features a delicatessen with a deep fryer, grill, indoor / outdoor seating and a serving window with cash register. This car was originally based on the car from set 10232, (Palace Cinema) along with a front end inspired by set 70906. (The Joker Notorious Low-rider) You can also build this car in red or black instead if you so desired. The rear of the car with the spare tire. The car features seating for one driver figure, plus a spare tire at the rear of the car on top of the opening trunk. The LDD file is available for both car and building at Brick-safe at this link. As I already have 90% of this build's parts already, I will be ordering this next along with the clock tower for my train station. 1950's Town Hall with Mayor's car (10184 - 10232 - 70906 - 79011 MOD)

This building was inspired by 2008 set 10184, Town Plan. I added a rear to the building in a style like set 31026, Bike Shop & Cafe. The building also takes cues from ScotNick and his modular take on the Town plan set. (see it here) I personally think this building looks very Back To The Future-like. Please note, my version of the building is not modular, and swings open to reveal the inside, such as in set 31026. It even locks shut on a Technic pin to keep the building closed. The upper floor features the mayors office with filing cabinets while the lower floor features the secretary’s desk. I know their isn't much in here, but I didn't know what to put inside. The back of the building. The middle rear window was very frustrating: it doesn't look like I imagined it but does manage to give off a clean appearance. The car was originally based on the car from set 10232, (Palace Cinema) along with a front end inspired by set 70906 (The Joker Notorious Low-rider) and a rear partially taken from set 79011. (The Penguin - Arctic Roller) The car features seating for two mini figures, but the figures can not see out the front windshield. The trunk at the back of the car can fit a suitcase inside and the side doors can open wide. The LDD file for both car and building as seen above is ready for download here. The model can now open only up to 90 degrees and the year 1922 goes on the top of the building where the exposed studs are in printed 1 x 1 tiles. You can compare the new model to the old one above. I originally wanted to post this car model beside a building model, but since I've been struggling to come up with something new, I thought why not just let it be posted by itself. You can also build this car in red instead of tan, but since I've already made so many red vehicles, I decided on tan instead. This car was originally based on the car from set 10232, (Palace Cinema) along with a front grille inspired by set 70906 (The Joker Notorious Low-rider) and a rear partially taken from the SHIELD car "Lola" in set 76077. (Iron Man: Detroit Steel strikes) The rear features a spare tire. The car features seating for two mini figures, as shown above. (Bob and Rob mini-figures not included in LDD file) As before, but without the mini figures. The seats are built on 1 x 2 jumper tiles, and the panels allow for the mini-figure's arms and legs to fit with this odd spacing. The LDD file (for the car only) is available here. Hi everyone, I'd like to show you my first MOD. As I already own two corner buildings, I have rebuilt my Palace Cinema as a non-corner building. The ground floor is now equipped with a bathroom, a back entrance and a grand staircase. This first model is a mash-up of the 2013 Palace Cinema (set number 10232) car and the car from 2002 Escape from Privet Drive. (set number 4728) I added a new cabin roof with bigger windows and made the car in more colors. These variations include: Tan, Red, White, Black, Dark Bluish Gray. Each car has 4 seats and a steering wheel now too, but it still can't seat figures. Here we see the tan version. Rear view. I made the red convertible into a brown coupe. I have updated the model and LDD file because some parts of the old MOC were did not exist in the right colors, so I fixed them. The rear features the tail lights and license plate. LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1428415439m.lxf This car is based off the CARS 2 character "Acer" from set 9484, Red's Water Rescue, a 2012 set. It uses a mix of dark bluish gray and lime to give it the peeling paint look. the car is EXTREMELY tiny, being about the same size as the LEGO cars from the 1990's, except this model seats no mini-figures. This car was built in real life first, then recreated in LDD, which is a fairly rare occurrence for me. it is also build able without the dark bluish gray bricks for an all lime green color scheme fresh from the Factory floor. The car is build-able in five colors: Red, White Yellow, Black, and Medium Blue. Shown here is the medium blue version. (Spider Man: Spider Cycle Chase) I took out the hover wheels and removed the flick-fire launcher mechanism. I then grouped the parts I added to the model to make it easier to build. Personally, this car makes me think of a 1980's sports car. The rear of the car features some neat partially covered wheels. It was inspired by eurotrash48903 and his own MOD of the set to be 7 wide. I didn't change it quite as much as him, but I did follow his lead in several spot, such as shortening the frame by 2 studs and getting rid of the ridiculously oversized original wheels. The roof and front have been strengthened and a door added to the rear, as their was none before. rear view showcasing the door and rear fender. It's cab features two seats instead of one, and the paint scheme has been changed to plain black. You can also see the brake lights are located just under the tailgate. LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1416927610m.lxf 1969 Volkswagen micro-bus This particular van is currently owned by the Collectible Mini figures (Series 7) Hippie, and his girlfriend. Built and modified from a PDF of the LEGO Rock Band bus, but in red instead of orange. LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1416926983m.lxf 1980's Yellow Taxicab I recommend you listen to 1970's singer / songwriter Harry Chapin's songs "TAXI" & "SEQUEL" when building this model. Dual exhaust and fancy tail-lights feature on this model. LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1416926658m.lxf (Two of these are need for the roof sign: http://www.bricklink....asp?P=4865pb42 ) 1950's Fire truck I was inspired to build this by CARS set 9484, Red's Water Rescue. I replaced the eyes with trans-black tiles and cheese slopes, while adding a grille where the mouth was. I also beefed up the rear, and removed the flick-fire missiles. The side of the truck features two hoses (one for each side) and the roof has a ladder. The sides also feature 4 hose hookups (that's the pearl gold 1x1 round studs) and two identical pump controls. LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1416965118m.lxf Modern Double deck bus (yellow) Inspired by the design of the red bus in set 60026 (Town Square) and the yellow bus in set 7641 (City Corner), this double deck bus can seat 14 mini-figures, including the driver. It features a modular design, and has two doors: one at the front for entering, and one at the rear for exiting. (My brother Austin inspired this mod by giving me the idea for the double deck bus in yellow. He made one in red which he has not uploaded yet. (link: http://www.bricklink...asp?S=4000008-1 ) I repainted it a more common-place black & gray instead of red, yellow, blue & light gray. It now features a enclosed cab, and better-looking side mirrors. The top of the cargo compartment comes off allowing for access to the interior. The rear features a trailer hookup although no trailer is included in the LDD file. LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1418836166m.lxf 1950's left-hand drive Double Deck bus (black & red) This was originally Scotnick's 7-studs-wide Bridgemaster Bus. I painted it in black and red for Brick Railway Systems and made into left hand drive for use in America. The bus also sports an enlarged upper deck, and a revised front windscreen. The red stripes on the upper deck are destination boards. This model is 100% build-able. LDD file: http://www.mocpages....1418417217m.lxf 1950's American Sedan I was inspired to build this model after seeing the dark red half-track / truck in this set: http://brickset.com/...overcraft-Chase The model looked easy to duplicate, but it proved difficult to create an exact copy. I then decided to take it in a another direction and create a regular American 1950's car, complete with tail fins and two rows of seating. The model features two rows of seating and opening doors, (a rarity on my models!) tail fins, and "double" tail lights. (I used a trans-red grille to create a nice effect.) The jumper plate on the rear bumper is supposed to represent a tailpipe and the white 1x2 tile is a license plate. (link: https://www.flickr.c...57624191463040/ ) I converted this 5 wide car to a hardtop and replaced the wide original wheels with a more Beetle-like solid disc. I also changed the color to yellow instead of green and added a license plate at the back. The car seats 1 mini figure. I modified the rear view mirrors, added a different style hook assembly, and removed the doors. The model is 7 wide, 24 studs long, and 12 2/3 bricks tall. It even features a handrail at the rear entrance. As an interesting side note, there are 27 1x2x2 trans-clear panels on the bus, along with two brick-built rear windows and the front windscreen. (man am I old!) This model features an extended frame and new wheels, courtesy of the CARS theme. I built this model for my Brother, Austin, for use on his town. The interior can seat one figure and features a steering wheel. The rear bumper also features a licence plate. In real life, this car type was built from 1959 - 1968. The engine was a straight in-line four cylinder, and the body came in 2 door saloon, 3 door estate & 2 door panel van. I built the LEGO version in LEGO Digital Designer and real life. The rear of the car features a non-opening trunk made to look like the original set 4728 model. (these are supposed to be signs, not actual letters) This model was also partially inspired by the United States Postal service vans I have in my area. The model looked easy to duplicate, but it proved difficult to create an exact copy. I then decided to take it in a another direction and create a generic American 1950's car, which eventually got turned into this version of Benny's Classic Space themed automobile. The model features a row of space-ship styled seats and "double" tail lights. (I used a trans-red grille to create a nice effect.) the white tile above the rear bumper is supposed to be Benny's license plate. I eyeballed the model and faithfully recreated it, but it was severely lacking in several areas so I enhanced it by extending the frame about two studs, and added bigger wheels. I then redid the bumper and passenger cabin, which required a new 4 x 8 roof, which is longer than the original 4 x 6 piece. The rear features two tail-lights and a license plate. It can also seat one mini-figure in the drivers seat. NOTE: The rear of the model actually features a 2 x 2 trans clear slope instead of the two 1 x 2 slopes seen here. I thought the 6-seat Palace Cinema auditorium was a little small, so I built a bigger one! [ Now updated with pics of the complete set:] One minor change to the exterior: I removed the wedge plates under the Wu-clock and ran the snot pillars all the way up. Nice and smooth. As you can see from the posters in the lobby - it's 70's night at the Palace. The concessions stand had to go but at least there's a restroom now: The seats are filling up fast. Here's the original limo: And here's my 6-wide mod: Palace Limo Mod by Legoogel, on Flickr I chopped a stud off the overhang at each end and one stud out of the mid section, then added proper doors, windscreen, wheel-arches and some compound tires. I actually like the original front end, so no change there. And here's the 5-wide version Both use exactly the same bonnet / hood assembly. I cheated slightly on the 5-wide bumper / fender: I used one of the disposable pins from a set of lego railway tracks - cut to length. Here's a comparison shot. The 5-wide looks a much better scale when placed next to the 6-wide lego truck sets. More pics on my flickr.

Palace Carpets I really liked the 10232 Palace Theatre, but it's faux-orientalism and old-timey roaring twenties glittery feel didn't look right in my economically distressed town. So, after years of neglect it's reopened as a Carpet and Flooring showroom. The original decorative facade had been covered in stucco and years of dirt, many of the wrought iron features had been sold for scrap. The roof had had a fire, but the new owner's are renovating. It's undergoing some last touch-ups here and there... And the roof looks like it's had some fire damage. And there's still a lot of the crumbling facade to fix and there's a bunch of burned out lights to replace but the doors are open and customers are shopping. Carpet rolls on the walls, circular rugs to one side, and a fine collection of area rugs. The window display. And on the second floor even more carpets - although clearly these are the designs and colors that are not selling well. One final shot! Fleetwood MOC - proposal for a different car for 10232 Palace Cinema

[Edit, 23 Jan] Here you can see the finished car, a Cadillac Fleetwood. There are some explanations and some more pics in this post. [/Edit] Hi all, honestly spoken, not yet a MOC but still a WIP. But no sooner there was the idea that this might go well with 10232 Palace Cinema I wanted to share it with you as quickly as possible. The origin of this was the usual struggle with the windscreen height. The idea here is that you get a much nicer silhouette for such a car if you lower the windscreen into the body (you can do that only with a 7w body, of course). Some other issues result from this, but it is possible. This surely has been done before, but maybe not in a setting like this. The car is built in a bracket-and-tile style, this has several advantages. Due to the brackets the frame is quite stable and may serve as a platform for more cars in this style. It fits 3 figs and can easily be turned into a convertible. No custom chrome (so far) and as far as I can see no illegal or especially difficult techniques (except the tires maybe), so it can easily be copied. The whitewall tires are my own design (no paint), tailfins taken from Legohippie, see http://www.1000stein...y.php?id=241132 Alas, no openable doors which is not so nice in terms of a replacement for the original car, but I didn't find a way until now. Dear All, just added Cinema Palace to my town, I was pretty happy with the build I will change the layout soon, would you have any suggestion for a layout with all modulars (except MS) and 2X16 wide MOCs?
