  1. I present to you this new 2021 moc with a medieval theme. The moc rests on two 32x32 bases and was designed to be placed side by side with the moc of the medieval windmill that I made in 2018. I made a medieval bridge and a watchtower. The bridge rests diagonally to the bases using a somewhat complex but effective technique. The watchtower is developed on three floors and is made with the walls that can be opened at the rear to be able to observe the interior. Inside the entrance door is a secret hatch that can be operated with a lever to drop a minifig into the underground tunnel that leads to one of the bridge's water streams. Through this function a skit was born to give a story to this moc: "High on the Watchtower, the lookout soldier, unaware of his future fate, watched the chariot coming to the Tower with the King's trusted knight. His job was to collect a chest full of gold for the King to deliver to the castle. A shrewd thief, however, had discovered how to steal the chest through a secret trap door that led to the tower and which also allowed him an escape route from the conduit beyond the bridge by passing through the cold waters of the river. Will the thief be able to escape? " Watchtower and Medieval Windmill together: Complete Flickr Gallery: https://www.flickr.com/photos/sdrnet/albums/72157720248922577 Comments welcome. Thank you all!
  2. The Imperial Watchtower is up to Version Four, on 28th June 2021. Imperial Watch Tower Version Four by R Y, on Flickr Imperial Watch Tower Version Four by R Y, on Flickr After building my Grand Castle MOD by deconstructing the second Medieval Castle, I was left with the rocky green base from the gatehouse, a staircase and a bottom of a battlement, plus some wall sections and what seems like a lot of spare pieces at the time. Instead taking those apart and sorting them out, I thought why not build something instead. From building four towers, and studying the instructions of B Model, I decided to use that experience and knowledge to build an Imperial watchtower, overlooking an waterway or the sea. MOC Imperial Watchtower 31120 by R Y, on Flickr I used the 8x16 brick yellow plate as the base, the dark azure plates surround it to create the coast and two olive green half circle plates for grass lands. I know that each level will be six bricks. I have three 4x8 dark tan plates to build as the cliff top, a 2x4 dark tan plate will be the base of the staircase also connecting the 4x8 half round olive green plate to the 8x16 tan plate. Using this knowledge I can gauge how far to build the cliff base from the edge of the plate, ten studs long, I still don’t know if I have enough pieces, I used inverted slopes where possible, placing the flat face on the outside. The two reddish brown 1x5x4 arch pieces are sitting on a combination 1x4 light bluish gray arches and 1x4 2 studs plates, and 1x6 dark blue tiles completes the steps. MOC Imperial Watchtower 31120 by R Y, on Flickr The tower is built like the original LEGO model, 6x6 studs side by side. I had six dark bluish grey panels left, they made up the walls with other bricks bordered by 1x1 round bricks. A black door frame was removed from the yellow wooden keep to make the entrance. I also have four 1x2x2 castle windows left as I removed them from my Grand Castle MOD, I needed black lattice diamond pane for the yellow keep. I was still short on dark bluish gray bricks so I needed to have more opening. I designed a bow window recess to free up a wall of dark bluish gray bricks, using reddish brown round corner windows and light bluish gray round corner macaronis, sitting on two inverted slopes, a dark blue slope and corner slopes for the roof. I really like the bow window recess as it provides a 180 degree view out to the sea. I managed to build up a two floor tower, again using inverted slopes to make up the numbers. I used the beautiful gargoyle design from LEGO model B, two are facing out to the sea, acting not only as elongated water sprouts directing water into the sea, they protect the tower from evil spirits. I introduced a bit of colour using the SNOT yellow wattle and daub panels sitting on two inverted brackets, I put one blue and one white 1x1 tooth plate to act as coat of arms on the yellow door sign. This made the tower ground floor one stud taller than the six bricks height of others. I didn’t initially use the dark tan 6x6 plates as the tower is enclosed, but realised they are required to provide structural rigidity to the body of the tower. MOC Imperial Watchtower 31120 by R Y, on Flickr MOC Imperial Watchtower 31120 by R Y, on Flickr That was my first watchtower attempt after many rebuilds, moving the light and dark bluish gray pieces around so at least the opposite walls on each level has the same colour and brick patterns. MOC Imperial Watchtower 31120 by R Y, on Flickr The next day, my mate was asking me about the Grand Castle MOD that I posted here, are the walls of the yellow wattle and daub building facing the great tower blocked off with bricks, or was it open access? I said it was open access on the first floor, closed on the second floor; then it dawned on me I can remove the two panels on the second floor, and possibly build up a third level. However, I still don’t have enough gray pieces. I know I have sacrificed the trebuchet design many times already, what is one more time… well, I had to take it apart completely this time. The counterweight provided the gray pieces, the frame provided five reddish brown tiles to swap out the dark blue ones on the staircase, two reddish brown 1x4 bricks were swapped into the roof of the keep for two dark bluish gray ones to go into the Imperial watchtower, four 1x1x5 solid studs and one 6x6 plate became the core of the roof. Two reddish brown arches went to the ground floor wooden columns to match the arches from first and second floor inside the yellow keep. Two 1x12 bricks are used on the cliff top to free up more grey bricks. As the tower got higher, I had to increase the height of the corner buttresses to balance it; they went from two bricks high, to three, and finally four, 2x2 corner bricks are used as I do not have enough 2x2 bricks. I moved the tower one stud inside the cliff, due to the round corner window piece broke up the line of light bluish gray edge, which is visually displeasing and break in weight transfer. Moving the whole tower in by one stud allows me to continue the edge from top down to bottom, with the brown window frame siting on the outside of the 1x1 round bricks, they are linked by two 1x2 round plates. One extra stud of space allowed me to create a nicer dark blue roof with a plate of yellow underneath. I had to take another black door frame from the yellow keep, on the second floor facing the tower, to support the back buttresses. I tend to hold the tower on the buttresses; as the bow window recess, built with 2x2 round corner bricks, is no longer in between the 2x2 bricks, the force of my finger grip would push in the buttresses and nearly collapsed the whole towel; the door frame solved this issue, a simple but very effective fix. The big 1x4x3 window with two pearl gold pane are used to provide the big opening on the third floor, I was literally on the last usable small gray pieces when it was built, the stepped pattern of dark and light bluish gray bricks is for looks and also due to the lack of bricks. MOC Imperial Watchtower 31120 by R Y, on Flickr Imperial Watchtower by R Y, on Flickr I wanted a pavilion roof originally, but do not have any 3x3 corner pieces left, so made to do with a dark blue gable roof. I was also short of a 1x2 yellow brick for the gable ends, so had to take one from the keep roof, replaced it with a yellow technic holed brick, hidden away from view. Dark blue 3x2 slopes stacked on top of each other with a 2x4 brick inside for support completed the roof with one flag on each gable. So here it is, after many rebuilds, my Imperial Watchtower made from the spare pieces of my Grand Castle MOD of 2 x 31120 Medieval Castle. Please share your thoughts on comments! 3. The busy trade routes of Kaliphlin are often following paths which pass by sources of water at decent intervals. Many of these wells are protected by at least somewhat fortified way stations. Sometimes, like here along the Oil Road, the tower also contains some rooms for travelers and shade for their camels to recuperate before continuing on the road. The well is a place where many rumors, and sometimes also goods and gold, are changing hands. In the cosmopolitan Kaliphlin, many travelers from all over Historica can be seen. Cyclops are known for their somewhat ...exotic... cuisine, and this wandering cook seems to have had a long journey already looking for new places to serve culinary surprises. A merchant is waiting for his turn to fetch water for his camels. By the looks of his clothes, he is quite successful at his trade. These vital arteries of trade in Kaliphlin are watched over by a small garrison at each way station. Some hardy plants are growing and even blossoming in the half-desert along this part of the road.
  4. Not all of Mitgardia is covered in snow year-round! Outposts in the south near Avalonia usually experience four seasons every year and are considered particularly nice postings among the Guild's soldiers. Wow, I'm truly amazed this thing has been going for 10 years now! A couple more pictures are here. C&C always appreciated!
  5. So, when I said that I possibly didn't have time to make an entry for this contest, because of Nocturnus Civil War (NCW) stuff I'm doing, someone suggested I could combine the two. And so I did. Side note: I'm starting to see that I'm way more involved in building architecture, and much less in building scenes where lore actually happens, so I still have two large creations from last year that I haven't posted yet. I do have a plan though, trust me™. Anyway, I'll put the entry first and then the NCW lore part. Royal Nocturnian Outpost (Ssilyrrlith's Residence) Before the days of the Nocty Civil War, Lord Ssilyrrlith, ruler of Nocturnus, would once and so often leave Abyssian and swamp that he calls home behind, and move to his summer residence (quite literally). It is situated in the Siccus Badlands, specifically on the northern banks of the Fallen Angel, where skies are often clear, the air is dry and temperatures are high. This small military outpost was initially built to gain more control over the disputed Badlands region, and as such it serves as the southwesternmost cornerstone of the Nocturnian Empire. The little stronghold residence is a place where Ssilyrrlith comes to gain some peace of mind - up in his tiny tower room, and do a bit of voluntary studying. Nevertheless, sometimes his duties catch up to him, in the form of his trusted feathered messenger! The tower opens up in multiple sections to reveal staircases, ladders, and Ssilyrrlith's detailed tower room, featuring furniture (cabinet, desk, bed, chair, sadly not all in the picture...), luxury items, writing and reading material, and a functional toilet which exits at the back of the tower! Feathers of Fate [Nocturnus Civil War] Ambush in the Rakath [Nocturnus Civil War] Onwards, to the Moruth Highlands! [Nocturnus Civil War] Turmoil in Camp Carakath [Nocturnus Civil War] Zotharians in the Underworld [Nocturnus Civil War] Rockwail's Catacombs: Rise of the Undead It had been quiet at the residence outpost for months - no, seasons on end. This far out in the Siccus Badlands region, major events of the Nocturnian Civil War; of the Algus invasion; the conflict in Kaliphlin; or even the rise of the true Heir to the Historican Throne, were little more than clouds on the horizon, or rumbles in the distance. With two exceptions. The first was eight months ago, when an elven messenger on their way to Avalonia passed by and reported that Abyssian Castle, with Lord Ssilyrrlith in it, was under heavy siege, and for some time already. The military staff present was shocked by this news, brought to their ears by a stranger, and initially didn't want to believe it. For all they knew, the "Hesperian", as that messenger had claimed to be, could be anyone. So, in a higher state of alertness and preparedness, they waited for orders. Those never came. Three months later - this was the second instance, the Hesperian returned, with a army of warriors seemingly drawn from all corners of Historica, and they were heading towards the battlefields at the Moruth Highlands. Now realizing the gravity of the situation, the full military unit, save for a couple of caretakers of the residence, joined the army and left for the blood-drenched heart of Nocturnus. And since then, it had been quiet... Mael, on of the caretakers, gazed out over the Fallen Angel stretching out before the stronghold, mostly shrouded in mist and fumes. Another empty day? Probably. But then he heard a familiar squeak, coming from the sky. He look around and was both delighted yet nervous at the sight of Aras, Lord Ssilyrrlith's loyal messenger bird, which was making a rapid circular descend. He hurried to the platform in front of the gate, while notifying the other guard. Aras greeted him quickly with a nod, but the look its eyes was insistent. Mael pulled a letter from behind its broad white-feather collar. He passed it on to his colleague, who was more literate. "Mael, I can't believe it..." he stumbled, as he went over the letter again and again. "It says... it says Abyssian.. has fallen." --- So that concludes both the entry and the story continuation, I hope you enjoyed!

    Kiruna watchtower

A few years ago, on one of his travels, Tabib D'Odo found himself in the frozen land of Mitgardia. He had made the journey to try and establish some relationships with the northern people as he knew it might come in handy in the future. This was before Mophet had grown to the city it is today, but Tabib had already started to prepare for what he hoped would come. He knew the resources from the northern forrests and mines were instrumental to what he hoped Mophet would one day become. Accustomed to the warmer weather in the glorious sand pit that was Kaliphlin though, he did not enjoy the rugged climate...nor was he too fond of the short-in-stature, and grumpy dwarfs that inhabited the land...But sometimes one must do what is required. He found himself in the southern parts of Mitgardia, west of the Winterlakes, before deciding that he had travelled far enough. On his way to Mitgardia he had passed through some very pleasant villages and made some good aquaintances which he hoped would be beneficial in the future. Had had also heard wispers of a magnificent city in the sky but failed to really grasp where this place was located. As he walked through the forrest carrying a bag of Kaliphlian spices and herbs intended to ease any negotiations, he came across a watchtower near a place called Kiruna. He was greeted by a short and very sturdy man that called himself Sten Håård. He was the captain of the watchtower and along with two of his camrades it was his responsibility to watch over the region. A small, nearly frozen river ran alongside the watchtower and around it, a few chickens slowly walked about. Tabib and Sten got along surprisingly well and after a few pints of ale, Tabib was informed that trade with the northern tribes in the area would not be a problem. He left the frozen land with a smile on his face, and started the long journey back to his beloved sand pit, of which he was very proud to be a part of. So this is another one of my entries to the summer joust, this time in the frozen north category. Hope you guys like it!
  7. Lady Eleanor has chosen a site to build a new fortified village to act as the center of her activity in Bluevale. It lies on a fairly flat island, in the North-East of the vale. The island is bordered on the south by the South Lake, on the west by the Ridge River and on the north and east by a flood channel. A small river runs through the channel which overflows extensively during the Spring thaws. A series of small Watchtowers have been build on the bluff between the flood channel and the Island to overview the approaches to the new building site. Sir Loth Strongarm and his son Stenon the High Ranger are inspecting one of the completed towers and discussing general concerns of the Vale, the new constructions as well as possible threats to the Lady's attempt to establish her rule. Meanwhile Stenon's oldest son Robb is leading the dwarf brothers Surwid and Norwid on an expedition to an abandoned mine to assess its potential for iron extraction and creating an iron, steel and related products manufacture hub.

    [MOC] Last guard

In the Kaleem Zam'qnar lands the Guards more and more often encountered 2 or 3 man Blood Orcs scouting groups. Usually they eliminated them quickly. However their appearance caused anxiety. The orcs have not been seen here for over 100 years. At the Watchtower on far, far east of the Kaleem Zam'qnar lands we can see a drama. The group of redskins is much bigger than the previous ones. And the Guardian is all alone there... Read more » Bigger photos and full story here: LEGO Gallery - [MOC] Last guard WIPs, Behind the scenes and other extras at my: Instagram | Facebook | Flickr
  9. While preparing the next exhibition, I am building some small modules to place along my Star Wars 12V train layout. Those modules will be integrated into larger layouts. So first, find a couple of small Twin Laser Turrets, that are very effective against flying speeders or fighters. Twin Laser Turrets by Veynom, on Flickr Turrets can rotate and laser can elevate. Part of the design is directly inspired from one of the recent battle packs. Twin Laser Turrets by Veynom, on Flickr Next comes a watchtower made in collaboration with my 11-year son. He had the original idea and first design. I mainly added some details and industrialized the built so that we could build 2 of them. The Watchtower by Veynom, on Flickr Rear view with the ladder: The Watchtower by Veynom, on Flickr Tower top with mounted blaster and light projector. Watching the area by Veynom, on Flickr Those modules are easy to duplicate, relocate and provide a nice immersive feeling to large layout. Comments welcome.

    Watchtower of Eolas

In times of need, the watchtowers of Eolas are manned to protect and give spirit to the nearby villages. I was having a look down my stream and I realized I had only made one round tower. So feeling that it was compulsory to have a go at another I came up with this. I think the result was much better than I had planned and the landscape was a bit of an experiment but I am really happy with the end look. Flowers and vines make things look pretty Hope you enjoy and C&C needed.
  11. Here's my build for the second Archery phase. I continued experimenting with cross braces, and took inspiration for the tower’s gables from Brickvader. As the spring weather causes the snow to thaw, archery drills continue at the range. You can see more pictures here. C&C welcome

    Benoic Watchtower

Thanks to de Gothia for letting me place this watchtower in Benoic. Having recently acquired quite a few dark green plates, I wanted to try a landscape in that color and chose to put a small tower/cottage combo on it. There is a full interior, though because of the small size the furnishings are fairly frugal. Both doors are functional as well. The corner stonework was inspired by Dwalin Forkbeard, the cottage was inspired by Legopard, the ‘gear’ mushrooms were borrowed from Captain Flint, and the tower windows were inspired by Gideon. Benoic has many stone watchtowers within its lands to provide warning in case of attack, and also as bastions of defense. This particular tower also has a small cottage to serve as living quarters for the soldiers stationed there. More pictures can be seen on brickbuilt. Thanks for looking, your comments and suggestions are always appreciated
  13. The stonework technique is made using half stud offsets, see a tutorial here. Check out more info on the Blitzard 2.0 The Elken tribe has been building strong stone watchtowers to fortify their lands against their polar bear neighbors: See more pictures here: link Thanks for looking

    Mitgardian Lookout Post

An entry into the Castle Goes to Space contest on classic-castle. Check it out here: link, I chose to redesign the set 6899, Nebula Outpost, into a castle watchtower. Credit for the ballista design goes to Jacob Nion Small wooden watchtowers are often found slightly outside of Mitgardian villages and towns, situated on a high point in the landscape to give early warning of any sort of threat: Set it's based off of: Thanks for looking, I plan on focusing more on GoH builds in the next few months
  15. This is my build for Tower Phase 2 in Age of Mitgardia. Battles occured throughout the North, as the Algus continued their relentless push into Mitgardia. A Nordheim watchtower had spotted a group of Algus for the village itself, and what warriors the town had left were quickly gathered to try and hold off the icy foes. The men were led by Anar, a veteran warrior famous for his dragon forged spear. Much to the men's relief, the Algus didn't seem capable of freezing the Mitgardians as they charged into battle: In fact, Anar even managed to slay one of the fearsome beasts: Upon which the other Algus made an organized retreat This gave the warriors new hope, as it seemed that the Algus weren't invincible after all. I tried a new wooden wall design utilizing sideways plates and tiles to give a planking effect. And credit for the roof design goes to Siercon and Coral.
  16. This MOC was built by my 12 year old brother. He's very happy with how this build turned out, there are full interiors in the buildings too. The dragon that Kendrick and Basil had heard about was ravaging the countryside. Targeting no specific kingdom his attacks were feared by all: More pictures can be seen here: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=543185 He would appreciate any C&C

    AoM Tower phase2: Ziphion

Ziphion is protector of the southern borders. She has build several of these fierce towers. She may be a lady, but she knows how to build one of the finest watchtowers. Lady Ziphion and personal guard.
  18. My category B entry: More pics, description, UoP claims, etc. tomorrow. I'm going to sleep... One of the many new watch towers the Black Spire forces have built to protect their newly controlled territory. This one, guarded by some ex-Varlyrion soldiers, sits on the edge of the Moruth Swamplands and protects a passage into the Rakath Mountains. This is my first foray into the world of round towers and I was also channeling a bit of SoccarKid's style with the odd bricks thrown in. I'm not completely sure the color blocking in the tower works, but at least it's Nocturnus-y. UoP claims: Architecture - round walls and towers Military Science - fortifications Trade and Law - arresting criminals flickr set C&C welcome!
