    Red's railway V3

So, I'm going to have to dismantle my 3rd attempt at a semi-permanent Lego railway due to it being situated under a building site. Also, I have bought some more appropriate tables which will allow it to bw properly level, and allow me some extra space to extend it and add another loop (on the station side), so now seemed like a good time to photograph it for prosperity. Overview The Rolling Stock I also have a couple of modded HE sets (ie one full TGV), but due to space and it being the most awkward to operate, it's currently sat on my dad's far from complete 00 layout. 2. Hello everyone, This is one of my greatest creations , the replica of the historic train River Douro , Portugal . Has two locomotives, one steam with the 2-8-4 configuration, the CP0186 built in Germany in 1924 by Henschel & Sohn and the CP1185 Diesel , a small tractor Sentinel which was painted black (originally is yellow ) nicknamed " Darth Vader " to ensure the reliability of the locomotive Steam in case of failure . Both have the engine 9V engines, need to pull the 5 wood carruages 3 are color lacquered wood , the other 2 are painted dark green on the outside and white inside . This train makes tourist trips in the summer , as a rule, travel always with the windows open , as such , I did not use any window or transclear panel , simulating that the windows are wide open and so I could get enough space to have comfortably seated 12 minifigures in each cars ( total of 60 minifigures ) . The train have more than 5000 pieces is 7 wide and 2.20 meters long, flowing smoothly over all the possible configuration rails. [MOC] USRA 0-8-0 version 3

It has been a bit quiet from my side the last weeks, so here is the latest version of this engine: It now features 2 medium power function motors. 5. Who doesn't love train sets? I certainly do. But since the introduction of the Power Functions system for motorization, with all its benefits, also came with the need to house a battery box. In passenger train sets in particular, this is a bit of a downside to the system. My Light Rail design solves this elegantly by placing the battery box underneath the train, leaving almost the full length of both carriages available for passengers. New Layout in a new country

A few months ago I packed up my entire Lego collection and handed it over to the hopefully trustworthy hands of a shipping company as I prepared to move from the UK to the US, and after 2 months waiting it finally arrived this side of the pond - guess which boxes were unpacked first!? It's the only time in my life I trusted someone else to move my collection, I was very glad it arrived intact! The wait gave me time to find a place to live with enough space for a layout, and after some work in the basement to repair a cracked pipe, I've begun building again. The layout (in rough numbers) is 15' x 4' (4.6m x 1.25m) or 18 x 5 in the "standard" Lego measurement of 32x32 baseplates. It's based on previous multi-level layouts I've done, running 2 x 12v and 1 9v loop(s) on each level. The top level will run approx 2/3 of the length of the bottom level, allowing me to create a bit more landscape this time. As before it's entirely modular, breaking into 6 sections for relatively easy transport. It's still very much a WIP, though as I now have dedicated space I can leave it set up and run trains as it progresses. There are several months of work ahead yet :-) From one end: DSC00872 by andyglascott, on Flickr And the other... DSC00871 by andyglascott, on Flickr I've even found a use for the few 12v rails that I've managed to break, there's a repair crew doing their best to salvage them! DSC00882 by andyglascott, on Flickr I've also made the switch from Brickshelf to Flickr, my apologies of the images/links above don't work properly, the album is here. I'll add more images over the coming weeks/months.

    [MOC] Steampunk Train

Sometimes I try to create a story of my MOCs, but not in this case. Usually people give names to their creatiions, and at first I wanted to call it Yellow Arrow (as in V. Pelevin novel) but my train hasn't such philosophical soul. So this train still without name and story. Mystical train that rushes under the mountains and over the hills... More photos in my FLICKR
  8. It's a train, for a village, in the winter, or other scenic season. In case you don't visit the Train Tech forum, I'd like to announce this complementary themed train set for which I'd greatly appreciate your support vote over at LEGO IDEAS. 9. Finally, almost two years in the making, I proudly present what I think comes pretty close to the ultimate LEGO train layout with relatively modest dimensions. Built on a purpose made modular table, the layout contains almost 40 meters of rails over 2 levels. Over 300 pieces of track were used (details at the end of the video) and an endless amount of pillars and other parts for the upper level. Enjoy! Details about the table and pieces used at the end of the video.

    [MOC] train tunnel

For the most recent brick.ie exhibition in Raheny I completely scrapped and rebuilt my old train tunnel. The new version is twin tracked with both a straight track and a curved section to facilitate landscaping of our train layouts. The tunnel has more detailed rockery than its predecessor including a bear cave. The waterfall moves using a technique I've seen on the web previously so its not my design - I couldn't believe those 1x4 plates are so prone to coming off the track threads. There are also two moving miners tapping away at the jewels. Both the waterfall and miners are remote controlled using PF wire. 2014-10-26 11.06.03 by Dfenz, on Flickr 2014-10-26 11.27.50 by Dfenz, on Flickr 2014-10-26 11.27.36 by Dfenz, on Flickr 2014-10-26 11.07.48 by Dfenz, on Flickr 2014-10-26 11.08.12 by Dfenz, on Flickr 2014-10-27 16.44.32 by Dfenz, on Flickr

    [LDD MOC] Trolley

Hello. I recently played in a very old game called Sim City 4. And there I saw a small railway car, which quickly went on the rails. Perhaps knowing what I remember. And today I had the idea to create something like that out of Lego. So I built a little car railroad workers. 9v or PF or both?

Hello all! New here to Eurobricks and the whole AFOL Trains community in general. I have noticed that there there are essentially two different train systems the 9v (runs on metal rails using a DC current from a transformer like a normal model railroad) and then Power Functions. I unfortunately don't have any of either to experiment with but I was just thinking would it be possible to merge the two and create a kind of DCC system? (Digital Command Control - current standard for powering and controlling model railroads) What I mean is this, you have the PF system that uses a battery pack, IR or RF receiver to power either a "train motor" or another motor that uses Technick gears etc, to power the wheels. Could not one remove the actual motor from the 9v train motor housing and use the metal wheels as contacts to pass the current through from the metal track to your PF control system? This way you would not have to break your layout into Power Districts and you would be able to run multiple trains on the same line under completely different control. Each train would be controlled by it's unique PF controller yet pulling the same current from the rails. Essentially moving the battery pack from a pack of batteries in the locomotive or tender and placing it in the rails where you no longer have to worry about charging or bringing extra batteries. I haven't been around long enough to see of you guys are doing this yet or not, but just thought I'd throw it out there. As I stated, I unfortunately don't have either system (or trains) to experiment with but will as soon as I have the coin. I recently downloaded LDD and built an MOC that I designed to run in either system or both. I've always been an FOL and trains but never have been able to bring the two together until I downloaded LDD. Let me know what you think of combining both 9v and PF and I'd love some feedback on my MOC in the link below. I went for detail so it turned out to be about to scale so wider and I'm sure taller than the standard size, though still on the Lego standard gauge track. Cheers! https://www.flickr.com/photos/128636628@N08/
  13. Hey all! So the other day my package arrived containing the 4563 Load N' Haul from 1991 and the 7722 Cargo Train from 1985!, this is beside the point. Today I was removing the traction tires on my 9v motor to clean them (junk like dust, dirt and hair was caught in them). But before doing so I relized that almost my whole motor was layered with oil! So i cleaned that off and put it back together. The problem is I am wanting to make sure that there is still enough oil to not have the motor be damged by not enough oil. When I run it it doesn't make loud squeaks or anything it sounds normal. Anyone have tips on oiling/knowing when to oil your motor! Thanks guys! -Rail Co

Train base - what should i do

Hi all, I've been snooping around lately and have decided to officially join the discussion! (WARNING! NEW MEMBER ALERT! WARNING!) I built this custom train base and i'm not sure what to do with it... Ive got a fairly meager supply of bricks, but enough to have 6 bins (plus track). The base is 6 wide by 28 long and dark bley. Pics: https://flic.kr/ps/2WPsUG (sorry for the poor lighting) ((yes those are some mocs in the background, more to come later when they are [more] done ))
  16. Hello everybody, this is my first post, welcome to me ;) First: Sorry for my english. i got a question: Thare is a way to switch direction (or maybe stop the train) like the old 4,5v trains? I got a end of line bumbper, and i need to stop the train or invert direction on it via power function. Thx everyB in adv

    Dilapidated Park

I put this together as practice for building environments in general, as my LUG's 5th annual display for the train depot in town is coming up and I wanted to be able to contribute more than rolling stock. Considering it's my first one, I don't think it turned out too bad... but I would have liked more verticality! I ran out of plant parts so I couldn't make it as extensive as I wanted either. I'm pretty sure this goes into Town and not Trains because the focus is on the landscape, but I could be wrong. More pictures can be found here on my DeviantArt page.

    General Work in Progress topic

Hello all, I have been thinking about making this a while back, but didn't have any WIP builds. The idea is a general WIP topic for posting WIP shots of unfinished creations. If you post something here please include (if posssible): - A picture (or more) - Links to prototypes and/or creations you base you creation on - Any other information other user should know when they help you I will start: I am currently working on an American diesel engine like this one but in 7 studs wide and a fictional colour scheme. American Diesel Engine WIP 1 by UrbanErwin(EPJL), on Flickr American Diesel Engine WIP 1 by UrbanErwin(EPJL), on Flickr legoman666's version is also a big inspiration source. As I don't have seen one of these in real life I have no idea if the scales are off, or that they are right. Things I still want to add: - A big ventilator thing on the back (how do you call those?) - Plows and couplers on the trucks - A better fuel tank I hope I have provided enough information. Erwin
  19. Hello, long time since I have posted something in Eurobricks at all. And this subforum is not the place I visit too often... But anyways, I have bought the LEGO set 70816 Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP! and it was a fun build and I like the model. It was my brother that had many LEGO set from the space theme, I was more of the Technic guy in my childhood. But I still like the classic space theme. About a week from now the "LEGO Build The Change" event will start in many cities in Norway. Here in my town we are a few members of Brikkelauget that will have a little exhibition with diffrent MOC's and original LEGO sets. The theme for this year is Transport and Communication. So a big spaceport with classic space is going to be a part of the exhibition. To keep small fingers from small visitors away from our models it is very nice to have a train running around on a track on the outside where the models are. So what kind of train goes outside a spaceport? And what kind of bricks did I have to make this? It had to be in the Classic Space colors, but I don't have much trans yellow except what was in the 70816 set. So then I set the challenge for myself: make a train out of the parts from only that set. I only added train wheels, PF trainmotor, PF receiver and a PF batterybox. And a few hours later this was the result: More pictures can bee seen here: It has a very low Q-value to be a creation from me. Especially the front part is not very secure. I hope you like the creation :)

    MOC: Rescue Train Car

Presenting my Rescue Train Car MOC I made this on suggestion from Lightningtiger that my fire train needed more cars. http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=100199 Plus I like unique railroad equipment and am going through a "Train Age" in my LEGO life. zephyr1934 found a nice article on fire & rescue trains: http://wildfiretoday.com/2010/08/24/fighting-fire-with-a-train/ This MOC is based off a Swiss tunnel fire rescue train. The rescue car is used for evacuating passengers and the injured to a safe location while the fire equipment and water cars stay behind to fight the fire. My MOC has room for one minifig on stretcher, 3 sitting and 6 standing. Play features include crane for lifting stretcher, openable doors, drop down ladders/steps, and removeable roof for accessing interior. There is a cabinet to store medical and other supplies. 21. I would really like to add coupling and connecting rods to my Toy Story train. I've never done this before, though and am unsure what pieces I need. How long should the coupling rods be? How do I build and connect the connecting rods? I am hoping to avoid a ton of modding but am willing to do some. I would love to see this in action like a proper steam engine (I already motorized it). Is there a tutorial for this somewhere about adding rods in general? If not, I would appreciate any help I could get. Thanks!

    MOC Garden Railroad

Here's my newest creation - a mini railroad diorama! Since this is a diorama of a house and since there is a train in the forum banner, I hope this is the right place (and not train tech). A render of the concept: The finished scene: Without the train: The train in detail: The carriages can hold up to three minifigs each if the hair piece doesn't need too much space. The train is pretty unstable but it is not meant to be played with. The whole train is connected to the scene at two spots. I hope you like it!
  23. Well, I took parts and ideas from several sets and built a transit center. Now my lego city residents have one downtown station for access to monorail to the airport, red passenger local trains and horizon express commuter trains. You enter the station through one entry point and then proceed to either purchase tickets or directly to one of three separate platforms via a sky bridge. The station also has a city bus stop and bicycle parking. I though it turned out nice. The set 60050 train station released this year has some nice parts. What do you think?
  24. Hi Everyone! I've been lurking around the forums for quite a while now, posting every now and again, but haven't really introduced myself. Well, I'm an AFOL currently studying for a Ph.D. in computer science and have been playing with lego since I was a small child. In my early teens my family could finally afford to get us some lego trains and I fell in love with them immediately. I currently live in the UK, but I spent most of my life in Canada and was born in Poland. I also studied in Poland, where I used to take the trains daily to my university. You can see where I'm going with this :) I love the old Polish locomotives that are still in use today, especially when they contrast against modern carriages. I've designed an EU07 locomotive in LDD and wanted to share it with everyone. I'd very much welcome any comments and criticisms - I'd like to make any changes to the designs before I actually order the bricks (although I'm still undecided whether to order the pieces for this locomotive or 2 Horizon Express sets). The end result with carriages that I'm going for is something like this: http://www.bahnbilde...-als-12231.html (I've always wanted double-decker cars!). The livery and exact model of the locomotive that I'm building, however, are based on this: http://www.bbajko.fr.../EU07-368-2.jpg Well, here's the locomotive, I hope you like it! It's my first real MOC and the first train I've ever built in 8-wide. Please don't mind the pantographs - I intend to cut the tubing down to size, which I unfortunately cannot do in LDD. I would also like to credit markervip from the LUGPol forums for the idea to make the front windshield! His original post (in Polish) is available here: http://www.lugpol.pl/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14701
  25. Hello all, Today I would like to share my first train MOC designed from scratch. So for this MOC I wanted to create a train that would be motorized and run off PF. So I decided to stick to something relatively simple and go for a diesel train. First image to come up that I liked was the BR Class 2 Shunter. I begun designing the train in LDD and ended up finalizing on a design I was particularly happy with. After some tweaks I ordered all the bricks and built it. Now one thing I wanted to do was to use one small PF motor to power the train. This ended up being a challenge since: 1. Originally the Battery box was at the back of the train, however straight off I realized the balance was off, causing the train to tip. 2. The torque output from the motor was weak. So further modifications had to be made with the gearing. So I moved the battery box to the front to account for the balance issue, and then geared the motor down to gain more torque. Sounds simple on paper however the working space was very limited And finally I ended up with this: IR receiver wedged in the back Video showing how it all works Video of it running One thing you may notice is that the scale is way off. This was a mistake on my part for not really using any reference or checking size. I knew I wanted to go 8 studs wide, however I ended up going a bit too far. Yet I still think it turned out pretty nicely. So that is my first train MOC. Hopefully I will continue to get better at building trains and have another to show in the future. Also if anyone wants the LDD file let me know. Thanks for reading.
