    I request some assistance

Alright, so I first want to explain this project that I have been dreaming about doing. The summer of 2013 I started to build a table to be specifically used for a lego moc. It was to be around 3 feet by five feet and feature an underground section. Well, after tearing it apart and rebuilding it several times, I finally finished in the summer of '14. Now I have moved out and have my own super tiny room and have the ability to devote some time to actually building the moc. The moc is going to be a hybrid. The majority of the buildings and scenery will be made of lego, while all the figures (except maybe a few statues) and 90% of the vehicles use will be mega bloks, specifically the Halo, Assassin's Creed and Call of Duty brands. Now this will be classified as a Halo Moc, while some weapons will be from custom lego weapons shops and painted by me. Now I do realize that some people like to keep mega bloks and lego separate, which I used to believe in. While I prefer the Mega bloks articulated figures, I still massively respect the Lego figure. What I need hep with is actually 100% to do with lego. I ave never built a lego train. Never even held a train track in my hand. Fear, mostly, because there seems to be so much to learn. Well, I ran into a slight dilemma. I wanted to make a new halo vehicle, because halo is limited in it's vehicle, and I wanted to add my own flare to this hybrid moc. Six months of looking at vehicles that looked like pre-existing halo ones and still nothing. Then out of no where, I got inspired. I was watching a review of a train set on youtube, when this piece caught my eye. And thus the idea for a halo train was born. Now the train itself I do not necessarily need help with. It's the tracks. And the engine. You see, I want the train to act as a supply/weapons platform, but I want it to wrap around my room, which has three HUGE problems. My room I live is essentially a bedroom where I share a bathroom with one guy and a kitchen with two others including him. So I have three doors to deal with. So then I thought, I can have the track wrap around the ceiling. Sounds cool, except that I have no idea how to make a train even run on flat surfaces. I don't even know how the darn things work. I have seen train tracks that were used to enable a train to go from ground level to another height, except that those systems tend to be larger than my table. I really only want the track to cross the table once, maybe twice. My idea is to have a train that can run in two direcetions, so that I don't have to create a loop. The wall that I intend to use to get a rail-ramp, for lack of a better word, gives me a good 6-7 feet to go from 3 feet of the ground to about seven feet off the ground. If anyone can help me, I would appreciate it. What I need advice on: 1) I need the smallest engine possible, but with enough power to move uphill and pull one of the previous mentioned pieces 2) What is a good angle to use for the incline that won't let the train shoot back down uncontrollably on its way up OR on it's way back down. 3) How do I make a train go two directions? What kind of engine would allow me to control it? I was thinking Infrared, so I can just stop it at any given time 4) How to stop the train without damaging either it OR any lego pieces Any advice anyone can give me will help. I literally have no idea what I am doing when it comes to lego trains. Thank you!
  2. Hi all. I've just come across this wonderful model by someone called Michael gale. https://m.flickr.com/#/photos/michaelgale/15266799517/ (can't add a photo via mobile sorry). I've got lots of track from my younger days and seeing this I'm tempted to get back into trains. So where would I start? Where do I get the wheels and are there any instructions online for anything similar to get me started? I'd like to power it using the 'old' wheel unit (via the tender?). The ones from around the mid 90 ' s as that's what I have. On a budget so would prefer to use these new fangled infrared things if possible. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks ☺

GFLUG at Tampa Train Show 2014

Hi friends, Just wanted to share some video from one of the larger local train shows in Florida where Greater Florida LEGO Users Group put together a massive display with a replica of Downtown Tampa, FL as well as many suburban and rural scenes. Hope you guys enjoy!
  4. Let me introduce you to my first ever train MOC ;) If moderator feels this belongs to other category better (maybe historic? he's been waiting for sooo long...) feel free to move this topic. This is how a typical passanger feels sometimes when your train simply doesn't want to come on time :) EDIT: This MOC is now on Rebrickable: http://rebrickable.com/mocs/Mestari/waiting-for-the-train
  5. So, one of my cats (Schrödinger) finally got over the noise of the railway and decided to inspect further. After merely observing for a while, then following behind, he decided it was time to try to actively effect this new and strange beast. I'm sure you can all imagine what happened next, and sure enough, one round trip after the photograph... Let's just say that red van didn't take well to it's swift trip to the floor, nor did the cat who got somewhat deluged in a shower of Lego fright wagons!

WIP - Town Layout - Brickeyville

So its been a few years coming but for my birthday yesterday my folks gave me some tables and plywood so I can start on my City Layout. The layout itself will consist of 6 tables with a 2m x 1m piece of 9mm plywood on top of each table, ultimately making a 4m x 4m square layout with room in the middle for me to operate from if and when I decide to take it to local Lego / Train shows. I have decided to work on it one table at a time mainly due to the $$ its going to cost me to complete the whole thing. Once I've finished a table I'll move it to the shed and start on the next table etc. Below is the basic LDD plan of my layout As I said - the LDD is basic and was just to give me an idea of what to put where. The purple area is going to be a container terminal, far side is the farming area, this end will be housing and a mine and you have main street to the left. I have started on Main Street today as my first table, as that gave me somewhere to put my modular buildings. I will be - - replacing all the roads with either new roads or brick built roads, - doubling the size of the train station to the length of the Horizon Express, - adding in the new modular Restaurant and Cinema, - filling in the rest with green baseplates - and then adding trees, plants, and vehicles etc. - the area between the station and the road plates will be a carpark for the station. Its a WIP and I'm really looking forward to putting it all together especially with the other tables so I can start to run a train again! Thanks for looking and I'll try to update it often with new pics. lostdriveway
  7. Hi and happy new year to everybody. Who was a child in the sixties will remember the beatufull blue crane in the idea books 241 and 242. Now I've realized that dream, http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=551836 http://www.mocpages.com/moc.php/404503 . I've made some updates, with a better base, another motor and an improved lift system, but the layout is that. Sergio ed Eros
  8. I'm a beginner at nxt programming. I built a train drawbridge for my lego city. I thought, I would try and use the nxt technology to make the bridge go up and down as the train crossed over the bridge. I put a pressure switch at each end of the bridge. One to tell the bridge to go up and one to tell the bridge to go down. It seems so simple but has become so frustrating. If train comes from one direction each time no problem. But if the train comes from the other direction the commands get confused. I did two series of commands, each by themselves work just fine. If I put them together, since I'm using the same switches, the program gets confused. I hope someone can help me with my problem.

  10. My project with RC trains failed (I'll try few years later maybe again). But i managed to make another one :) My youngest kid is 3 years now and just love to play with duplo trains. There were 2 problems however. One is that trains are expensive. Second is that there is no rc trains... Here is recipe: 1. duplo train base 2. Spybotics module and RC 3. roborobo wheels 4. some technics parts 5. some more technics parts to connect motor to wheels: a) 3736, 3482, rubber band b) 3648, 4019, 24x3711 6. some bricks for weight 7. ?????? 8. PROFIT!!! I didn't found any suitable lego wheels in my inventory that have good friction with duplo wheels. Ones from RoboRobo set fit very well. If anyone come up with some better idea, lt me know, as now kids want to connect cargo cars. I recommend to use 5a as it simpler and provide softer start. 5b is faster. Trains have 2 speeds: slow when only one motor is working, and about 30% faster when both motors are working. It also works well with only one side powered. Trains could backward, and that is really helpful to avoid jams. Some bricks are used just to add weight to front, so train don't fall back at start. Problems: * they don't go uphill well, as train wheels are plastic, so not enough friction with track * with current setup it is not possible to connect cars at back as they hit wheels on turns * often got stuck on 2 sequential switches (placing curved or strait track bin between eliminate problem) There are many games that is fun to play. E.g. Place one train that go automatically forward, and everyone goals is to avoid it. For kids it is a bit challenging as they need to control train and change switches simultaneously. Here is short video:
  11. Hi everyone! This is my entry for the Expand The Winter Village contest, hope you like it! When the first snow is coming, Santa starts his old train. He goes around the neighbouring villages and gives hot chocolate and cake to people, who want to have a rest, among the many challenges they have before Christmas. Happy Holidays! Thanks for visiting!

    Lego train tracks

My son just got his first lego train set for christmas the cargo train). I'm looking for extra track for him, can only find the straight, curved, flex and switching track. Is there really no junction track, or bridges, for the lego trains?

    LDD MOC: Steampunk Train

Hi all As i don't have enough money to build all i want, i keep building on LDD to spend some time, i've worked on it 3 days This will be my first minifig scaled creation, a full steampunkn train My first part is the travelers coach, it fits 16 seated minifigs, and some more standing up It has a lot of machinery on the sides and the roof, some steam tankers for the brakes, and the wheels/rails are hidden under by the side machinery, as i wanted it to be "floating" it is composed by 2175 parts, so it's quite a big build, but i like challenges ;) roof is openables to place minifigs inside, and the side doors are openable too Here are the pics, thx for watching ! comments are welcomed ! i'll update the post with the rest of the train when they'll be done !

  15. I've been looking at the 10170 TTX intermodal cars for some time, and I really like them, except the container size. When I went looking around, I found the following topic, which was a good start for me: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=71804&hl=10170 I however thought the design was a bit too long, to wide and too high. I ended up with only copying the elements of the 10170, got rid of the 7939 container car elements, and this is the result: It can take a double stack of containers, and with the increase of the bridge of the 7937 by one brick, it can pass underneath it.
  16. Hello! I'm new to this forum and I joined because I think this could interest some builders: I recently bought an unopened 3225 set and was able to scan the stickers. I searched the web for a place to share them, but I didn't find any website that lists scanned Lego stickers. As I said, I'm not an expert concerning Lego-themed websites and forums, so I might have missed something obvious. Does anyone know of such a scan collection? Are there places where I could post my scan so that every interested builder can find it? Thank you in advance! Sadly, I seem to be unable to post my scan here... Maybe I don't understand the mechanics of posting on this forum.
  17. I have just completed the modifications to incorporate the suggestions for my 6 wide power functions shunter. Please let me know what you think and I welcome suggestions for how it can be improved. Thank you all for your support on https://ideas.lego.com/projects/82031 I regret we have only 100 supporters now so I don't forsee this getting up as the 50th anniversary of Lego Trains train. Fortunately James Mathis has what I think is an even better idea https://ideas.lego.com/projects/86744 so if you haven't supported this one I can highly recommend his. The biggest change is the ability to now turn the battery box off and on by pressing the front of the forward dome. I have some pictures on Flickr that show how it works. https://www.flickr.c...57649279163680/

    Chip's Ice House

Chip's Ice House photos on Flicker Hi All, I recently finished a new building, Chip's Ice House, for my train layout. It is a scratch built "copy" of Woodland Scenic's Chip's Ice House. I really enjoy Woodland Scenic's web site because their models are already "selectively compressed" and finely detailed. I also scratch built "copied" the Meg-A-Watt factory building. I noticed that Jason (j-spears) also built the Barrel Factory from Woodland... :-) I have been wanting to build this one for over a year and when I saw michaelozzie1's Train2 folder on Flickr I was inspired by the Cargo Loading Shed! BTW... I totally stole the palette MOC from michaelozzie1! Thanks all for the inspirations !!! SteveB

    MOC: The LKAB IORE

Hello My first MOC to be posted on EB is the LKAB IORE, one of the most powerful electric locomotive She runs between Kiruna and Narvik/Lulea in the northern part of Sweden. She is used to pull heavy iron ore trains from the minings in Kiruna to the harbours. My model is 8 wide and 90 cm (3 feet) long (2*45cm of each single locomotive). The cab of the first locomotive with the name Nattavaara - the locomotives are named by minings or places on this railway - has a cab interior and lights. In the cab, there is enough room for two minifigs to guide the train through kilometers of unhabitated nature; or LEGO rails with CC houses around Now the pictures, they can all be found on my Flickr photostream https://www.flickr.c...57649673041782/ IORE 1 by StefanEris, on Flickr IORE 3 by StefanEris, on Flickr IORE 5 by StefanEris, on Flickr IORE 6 by StefanEris, on Flickr IORE 10 by StefanEris, on Flickr 2013-08-07 16.24.41 by StefanEris, on Flickr I'm open for critics and like to hear what you think. 20. This project is the culmination of everything I have ever wanted to build. The Aquazone theme will always hold a special place in my heart, and Lego Technic and Mindstorms have solidified my lifetime addiction to Lego. I know this is a bit of a blast from the past using rcx's but they are cheap (as am I) and readily available on ebay. Not to mention they fit the color scheme ;). I got 10 between 2 ebay auctions and after a few hours of cleaning battery acid and a few solder joints i was left with 6 working units. I sold off some of my collection (bye bye maersk train), mostly minifigs to finance my ebay findings (hello dacta control center). Most of the Aquazone sets were bought years ago on ebay once I got my first job, I was able to snag one of most every original aquazone sets that i couldn't afford as a kid. Now that the history is out of the way on to the building! Features so far include: 2 sets of LED's given a random power level every 10ms, to give a nice flicker effect in the cave. 1 Lamp (more coming from bricklink!), randomly goes between power level 6 and 7 on a slow cycle. This is designed to catch the eye and add realism. Cant wait to get more to light the entire model. Power station in back powered by classic 9v non-geared motor, The propellors spin at different speeds thanks to different sized pulleys mounted on smooth axles, the smooth axles a carefully pushed through the friction pins of the propellors. Automatic air compressor using a rotation sensor to stop at max pressure, and a touch sensor and pneumatic cylinder to trigger start at min pressure. Also features manual override touch sensor to start again. Power functions RC robotic arm, doesnt quite fit in yet, but it will eventually, again this is a work in progress. The picture below is an overview of a somewhat recent picture, for the most recent work check out the brickshelf link. I will eventually post a video of the completed model without all the technical jargon. But if you are in to technical jargon the youtube videos below go in to detail as the model has progressed. 23. Hey, I'am working on a Lego train and my layout is fine. It's now time to add houses and so on. I already have Creator house 4956 and 4886. They look fine and size looks good. I plan to buy modular to create a small city. I would like to know how modular will looks side Creator house. I also see some modular-like : 31026 Bike Shop & Cafe. I'am searching for pictures with Creator houses, modular and those modular-like. I would like to know if size match and if they can be mixed. Perhaps I don't use the good words to google for picts but I did not found such pictures. I found a picture form this topic but the viewing angle did not help to compare. PS : Sorry for my poor English. It doesn't help to search...

    MOC: Studdington Station

Hi everyone, its been a while since my last build, so here it is my latest project Studdington Station. I don't consider myself a train enthusiast or expert, hence there is no engine in this MOC, but as I enjoy making buildings and a little landscaping I thought this would be a nice way to combine my interests. I figure all towns and cities need a train station so I've put it in here! although the admins may wish to move as appropriate. This has took way much longer than I would of liked to finish but it's eventually been done. It was influenced by many British countryside stations build in the Victorian era. A lot of these buildings are now defunct due to low usage and have been converted in to homes and other business's. Due to my small desk, I've cut the size of the platform considerably so it's not realistic at all! There is no interior this time sadly. I'll save my ideas for another project! There is a few 'untidy' areas which I perhaps could of eventually figured out a better solution for but just wanted to get it finished. Anyway, enough waffle and on with the pics, there is only 5 in total this time and I've posted them all below; If you wish to view them in flickr the link is here: https://www.flickr.c...s/52656812@N04/ Comments welcome in any form! Cheers
  25. So a couple of people have asked for a more detailed look at some of my MOCs, and who am I to say no? Each gallery will come with the LDD file. Although the LDD designs are always my own work (unless otherwise stated), a lot of inspiration will have been taken from other people's work. I will endeavour to credit anyone who's work has inspired me. To make things easier, I'll provide a link to all my MOCs from this first post: Locomotives - Coaches - 6 Wide Pullman Wagons - More MOCs to come! 6 Wide Pullman The basic style for this build was very much inspired by youtube user technoandrew's Pullmans. LDD File: Click me! LDD notes: Roof is held on by friction alone. Turn tables fit into the smaller arched formed windows to make the toilet windows. The 2x4 black tiles (of which there should be 4, not 2) fit into the larger arch formed windows to represent the door windows (and hid the ugly stuff behind them). The frames under the coach are formed using some chopped 3mm hose.
