    [MOC] Speeder Bike

Hi All Three years ago I was going to see a good friend in the US. I knew he was a Star Wars and a Lego fan, and he had recently bought some sets that included speeder bikes, and had commented on FB about how he loved the little speeder bikes. So, having already completed one major MOC earlier that year (in a post to follow) and with the building buzz still fizzing in my blood, I 'threw' this together in about two to three months. PIC_0871 by neil cook, on Flickr I don't remember the statistics for this model except that it was about 32 inches long and had over 600 pieces. PIC_0875 by neil cook, on Flickr The control arms and laser canon moved, the front steering/deflectors could be adjusted, and the foot pedals, when pressed, opened the flaps at the back. [MOC] Kanan's Speeder Bike / Joben-T-85

Since I've build Ezra's speeder bike much closer to minifig-scale recently, I also wanted to build Kanan's speeder bike, as depicted in the Star Wars: Rebels Visual Guide. This one proved to be a lot more difficult to get all the correct proportions, angles and details in that small scale, but I'm pretty happy with the result: Here's a picture with Ezra's and Kanan's speeder bike side by side to give a size comparison: Enjoy!

    Imperial Scout Bike MOC

This little build is part of my current AT AT project. I wanted to build a scout bike that fits into the troop compartment of my AT AT MOC which is based on the 8129 AT AT set. Not only should it fit into the compartment, but I also wanted to have some space remaining for some troopers on the tray which inserts into the troop compartment while the bike is on it. On top of that, I naturally wanted the bike to sport the shapes and proportions we know from Return of the Jedi as much as possible considering the size (or lack of size) of the build. So, this turned out to be another teeny-weeny build, but I'm very pleased with the result and therefore like to share this here and read your comments and suggestions. Here's two images of the bike: The bike is very sturdy and folds up in the middle, so that it fits on the tray. As you can see, it leaves a 2-stud-wide edge on the tray where 4 troopers can be comfortably placed: I'm currently also improving on the AT AT and will post new and more detailed photos in the relevant thread.
  6. Goatm-An 4-61 is a Tie pilot assigned to test fly experimental starfighters for the Empire and occasionally help develop develop new weapon platforms for the ground forces. After crash landing a Tie Fighter on Endor, narrowly escaping a gorax, and killing his way through village after village of Ewoks, Goatm has finally reached one of the Imperial construction site. Coincidentally, his friend and favorite mechanic is onsite installing some special sentry cannons. Goatm's mechanic explains to Goatm that this is a special construction site because of Vader's Exhaust Port Security Initiative. The location of this port has been kept very secret. Construction requires only underground, horizontal drilling operations, the lowering of the exhaust port into place via an Imperial shuttle piloted by an ISB pilot, two highly trained snipers on hand with orders to shoot all sentient and non-sentient creatures in the area, and a small construction crew made up of the greenest, most inexperienced, and incompetent recruits that wouldn't be able to find this location if they tattooed it on their sloppy, stormtrooper bodies. The mechanic was pretty certain these guys don't even speak basic. (Just having fun; no offense meant to my extremely talented, wonderful German and Austrian comrades) These two snipers brought some serious rifles and a specially modified speeder. The shuttle pilot expertly lowered the exhaust port though the hole below, where it was quickly attached to the underground system of tunnels. Some stormtroopers will be happy to know that this build was done with the utmost care to preserve the natural surrounding. Other Imperial's will be sad to know that this preservation did not include the Ewoks living nearby. Imperial brass inspects and approves of the new exhaust port. The Empire's new exhaust port hatch technology seems to be working well, too. Thank you for clicking. I hope that you will leave comments and criticisms below. I would like for this build to be judged, please and thank you.
  7. So these are a bit old — flickr says taken in December 2012, MOCpages says posted in January 2013. But they caught my eye because I was going through all the different categories of Star Wars entries on MOCpages checking for new additions (MOCpages has a boggling number of categories so some of them literally have not been used in months, years even, which is how this MOC ended up near the top.), and I saw these great speeder bikes which had…two comments. But the photos had a little watermark in the corner, so I Googled that, and found the MOC on flickr with…two comments by other users. And I decided that despite the age, these models needed more exposure. So now you know why a six-month-old MOC is being blogged and how I found it. (And on that note, I'm sure the builder would appreciate it if you checked out his photostream, because he's got a lot of other great LEGO stuff.) Anyways, the model: I’ve built a fair number of 74-Zs myself, so I know it’s difficult to capture all the angles and curves and details in that size. James zhan has made his a bit bigger — about Miniland-scale, I think — and that’s allowed him to use those curved slopes in front, and all those different angles in the back. It’s not that these things are impossible to represent fairly accurately at minifig scale, because they certainly are. But at this scale, everything combines for a beautiful model that doesn’t look like compromises in accuracy had to be made, which in turn makes the model that much more pleasing to look at.
