  2. 20160404_212244 (3) by Chris Warburton Brown, on Flickr Good People of Port Raleigh! Know that due to the great munificence of our own Mr Hawksbrugh, the Port Raleigh elementary school and Port Raleigh Reading Room are now open! 20160404_212318 (3) by Chris Warburton Brown, on Flickr Any child between the age of 7 and 11 may attend the school; due to Mr Hawksbrugh's rather unusual notions even young ladies! They will receive elementary instruction in reading, writing and arithmetic, plus a smattering of geography, astronomy, history and natural philosophy according to a curriculum of Mr Hawksbrugh's own devising. The newly engaged tutor, Mr Leonidas Wallace, is now giving lessons five days a week. Children should attend for three hours each day, either in the morning or the afternoon session, but not both. Due to restrictions of space, no more than three pupils may attend each session so please apply well in advance. Lessons for adults of modest proportions may be available in the evenings; please apply at the school for details. 20160404_212325 (3) by Chris Warburton Brown, on Flickr We are also proud to announce the opening of the Public Reading Room, situated above the school. This library contains a wonderful collection of books paid for by Mr Hawksbrugh, plus generous donations from the private collections of our Mayor The Worshipful Mr Flynn, Miranda Merryweather and Lady Norrington. Books on all subjects are available to members, reference only. Membership is only half a doubloon for an entire year! The Reading Room is open Monday to Friday from 9 of the clock in the forenoon until 6 of the clock in the evening. Unfortunately due to the small space, only two members are permitted entry at any time. Obese members not permitted. [NB I actually built this school for my 9 year old daughter's Lego Elves, but then thought I could adapt it for BoBS. She did all the interiors without help, as you can see she is a better Lego modeller than me! I swear I will never do another hexagonal building, getting the walls lined up without falling apart was hard work!]

    MOC: Winter School

The Winter School We are entering summer but I'm still working to complete all the new Winter Village will be presented in July 2014! This moc is my third and last building for the new Winter Village 2014. Having done in the past the church and the town hall in the village could not miss school. I had a good number of brick in dark blue that I wanted to use for a building that occupies a certain importance, and so I decided that the building more suited to this color was the school. The result is a simple but elegant and minimalist building, with large windows and white with a dark roof built a system a little bit different but more technical than the other buildings. The interior is not great unfortunately, but I still managed to get two classrooms (almost identical) are not very large but still essential, and also the room of the Presidency of the school. In the room of the headmaster is also a light pressure (hidden in the roof) that allows you to better illuminate the desk of the Headmaster. The building is made with respect to the last two (Farm and Cottage) is perhaps slightly less detailed but its elegance does justice to himself and makes her look good along with all the other buildings around the village square. Even this building (as for others) will be combined with two Baseplates with many minifigs (especially a series of children with a backpack while out of school) and various accessories such as a bus stop and a yellow bus to transport the children . The design of the bus I was inspired by this moc (https://www.flickr.c...ppie/8558813647) found on the net. Inspired by this, I redid the bus making it smaller and making some changes to make it a bit more European. The result is a nice bus with 8 seats + driver ... for a small village should be enough! : D Thank you all for watching and for your comments. :) Sandro Other images: Lateral view The rear view Interior details Room of the headmaster Roof detail The school-bus Complete gallery of images: https://www.flickr.c...57644843600990/
  8. Hi everyone, with me recently having turned from a university scholar of witchcraft into a christian private school teacher, I am looking for ways to introduce LEGO projects in school. Not as part of official subjects like maths or physics, but as a voluntary pastime for pupils, but led and supervised by a teacher (me). To some extend, I would get paid for this. Does anyone here have any experience with such a format? Ideas? My idea would be something like writing stories, building them with LEGO and take digital pictures to make narrative photo books or powerpoint presentations. This combines the power of narratives that I believe in with building and results in nice products the kids could show at home or whereever. Also they could paint backgrounds and built studios from cardboard boxes. Of course, I would need loads of figs and bricks for this. Do any of you have experience with such things?
