Celebrating 25 Years of Adventure Category C 5968 The Cursed Race (Product Concept) By Rui Miguel “Not again! Another mummy chasing us” – Johnny Thunder “Well at least this one isn’t making any jokes” – Gail Storm 5968 The Cursed Race is the second chapter in the new journey on the Classic LEGO Adventurers theme. Shortly after Baron acquired the map it lifted the curse of Pharaoh Yuy. Our heroes still managed to get the map from Baron and Sinister but must now race against Pharaoh Huy. The only way our Adventurers can break the curse is to find the missing Jem of Anut. Features: - 292 pcs/pzs - Playfull Vehicles - 4x Minifigures (Johnny Thunder, Gail Storm, Dr. Charles Lighting and Pharaoh Yuy) Behind the Adventure Chapter II What kind of an Adventure would it be without cool vehicles and a mystical mummy? In this concept I wanted to bring vehicles that haven’t been made into a set previously. For example, a car capable of sitting all three main characters and an Egyptian chariot. The car is heavily inspired by the classic Excalibur cars. It was around two years ago, in a summer classics expo, when I saw an Excalibour car and when I saw it in real life I told myself if one day I was ever to do an Adventurers project this would be the heroes car. No more, no less. The model, the colors and the design just felt visually right and of course I added some small variations to fit the LEGO System. In the process I left my favourite part for last… The Mummy! Since I was a kid I always had a soft spot for villains, I don’t know why but they have always looked cooler than the heroes, always had the best musical scores and the best quotes, it’s just my opinion. In my draft story I wrote a new character, Pharaoh Yuy, a distant relative to Pharaoh Imoteh. He would be this cursed spooky ghost and for that I would use the Yellowish Green and Transparent Bright Green color pallet to that effect. The music themes of Ra from Stargate and The Mummy from composers David Arnold and Jerry Goldsmith inspired the design. I also found pressure in making this concept because it featured the minifigures of the heroes. Each to their own with their unique look and dressing. I maintained the color scheme and focused on refreshing with little drawing notes from my visual memory and movie culture inspirations and on top of that I adopted nowadays guidelines for minifigure design. Here is a detailed look at the graphic design of the characters and as well a closer look at the printed/stickers elements. Celebrating 25 Years of Adventure Category C 5926 Desert Secrets (Product Concept) By Rui Miguel “At last Sinister! The lost treasures of Princess Anut are in our grasp!” – Baron Von Barron 5926 Desert Secrets is the first chapter of a new journey on the Classic LEGO Adventurers theme. Our favorite villain duo: Baron Von Barron and Sam Sinister have located the mystic shrine statue which is believed to unveil a secret map with the locations of Princess Anut's treasures. These artifacts can bring fantastic power to those who acquire, but be careful with what you discover, Adventurer… Some artifacts come with a terrible curse. Features: - 172 pcs/pzs - Interactive Puzzle Model Build - 2x Minifigures (Baron Von Barron and Sam Sinister) - Playable Ural Motorcycle Behind the Adventure Chapter I I surely can’t be the only one who misses the Adventurers theme. I can’t tell you the number of times I played with my Johnny Thunder sets back in the day and still do sometimes. When I was a kid I always played with Johnny as mix between Indiana Jones meets Rick O'Connell meets "Crocodile" Dundee. When I saw the contest with the guidelines and the design process I do with my MOCs, I felt this could be a great opportunity to explore the simple, yet complex idea of: What if the Adventurers theme came back, what could that look like? It's not only celebrating 25 years of Adventure, but also 25 years of MOCs in the making by so many fellow AFOLs and TFOLs so for me to make this concept right I also needed to have in mind that I would not only be designing my vision of Johnny Thunder, but also make sure to get, as much as possible, everyone’s vision in that process too. I wrote down a small crazy draft of a story, in which later served as my blueprint for this set and my other entry. I was very careful reinventing the characters' design; I wanted them feel new and yet respecting and preserving what made their look iconic. Below I show in more detail the physical prototype I built before doing the digital color test. That I promise” - Bruce Wayne This LEGO Brickheadz concept is a homage to the amazing Kevin Conroy. A way to bring Batman: The Animated Series to our hearts in LEGO and remembering the eternal voice of Kevin. Every time I look at this project I will hear his Batman voice. Thank you Kevin Conroy for all the moments and lessons you shared with the world. You will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Rest in peace Dark Knight. The Witch-King of Angmar™ & Fellbeast™ BrickHeadz (LOTR Product Concept) By Rui Miguel “Do not come between the Nazgul and his prey” Shortly after I finish my Fellowship collection it bother me I couldn’t produce them in physical form or bring you another of my creations. So I decided to make one more character but with 4 parameters: 1 – No new printed elements 2 – Only available colors 3 – No rare parts 4 – Under 400 pieces At first, it crossed my mind to make a Balrog but then again LEGO is already making one… So I skipped. Treebeard was on the table of ideas too but I ended up doing the Witch-King of Angmar. It’s a villain with a badass design and a very iconic look. But what close the deal for me was the piece 65473 that had the perfect shape for a neck of a Fellbeast dragon and I think I haven’t seen a MOC of these characters in BrickHeadz form. The final result, I present here 😉 Hope you like it. My goal again was to deliver a LEGO experience that could resemble the product standards of LEGO official products, from packaging, LEGO model and building experience. Beneath I share the PDF files of the building instructions for this set I made. I also added the Bricklink studio file of the model so you can upload to Bricklink and generate a wanted list of the LEGO parts needed to order. The Fellowship Of The Ring™ BrickHeadz Collection (LOTR Product Concept) By Rui Miguel “Nine companions. So be it. You shall be the Fellowship of the Ring” When I heard the news from Promobricks of the possible revival of The Lord Of The Rings LEGO Theme, I was like: “One does not simply revive LEGO LOTR” and I thrilled if this turns out to be true. So during the past 2 weeks, I set myself the challenge to reimagine the Fellowship into BrickHeadz scale. I divided them into three different sets: the idea is to make that iconic silhouette when they are traveling and headed to Mordor. I think that would look cool to display, play and worthy of our collections. A little about the process: I use the piece count from Harry Potter BrickHeadz as an indicator of how many pieces I could use, to make it as realistic as an official release. But I must confess I feel like I cheated this time because I used certain parts in which the color has not been released yet and a lot of printed pieces. If Frodo and Gandalf BrickHeadz are coming next year in January I wonder if the LEGO design team used on their versions any of these parts in these new colors. Can’t wait for 2023! TIE Interceptor™ (ROTJ 40th Anniversary Product Concept) By Rui Miguel “Greetings exalted ones” From the Galaxy Far Far Away I bring you the TIE Interceptor. One of my favourite Empire Starfighters from Star Wars. When I was 12 years old in 2006 I remember receiving on my birthday the set 6206, it was a blast back then, but little did I know it would be the last time seeing another release of this specific class. In 2023, The Return of The Jedi will be celebrating its 40th anniversary so I asked myself: what would a TIE Interceptor look like nowadays? I feel like this is one of those long overdue Star Wars vehicles, us LEGO fans hope to see with a modern take and add to our collections. This is my attempt to fill that gap in your collection. As with my previous projects, I brought into my MOC the same design process in order to present a product concept that could identify with the official LEGO product standards. Ghost Rider Midnight Race By Rui Miguel "I ride, and Hell follows with me." Ghost Rider Midnight Race is a product concept I made as a fictional SDCC LEGO set exclusive. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Marvel’s “Ghost Rider” and when I saw Marvel Legends team from Hasbro teasing a Ghost Rider project for their next Haslab with that beautiful anniversary logo, all I kept thinking was how badly I wanted to see one in LEGO! So the idea started there. I think with the current LEGO portfolio a stand-alone Ghost Rider set would only be made into production under these circumstances and that’s why I made the decision to make this a Comic Con Exclusive (although I’m aware this would let down a lot of fans that wouldn’t manage to reach this release, including myself) This is my first Marvel project and it is also bigger in terms of the design process. This project allowed me to fully embrace multiple roles that bring LEGO Products to life. From Model Design (both analog and digital), Graphic Design, Building Instruction Developer, Packaging Designer and Marketing. The most challenging part was being my own ‘Model Coach’ to ensure that the model lives up to LEGO's high-quality standards. All these were meticulously engineered to bring the best play and building experience to the project. Above you see multiple views of the model and a detailed look at the graphic design. You can also find free access to the PDF file of the building instructions and the Bricklink studio file of the model of the motorcycle and display stand. With the manual, you can build your own Ghost Rider motorcycle (and see a “small” tease for what’s next in the pipeline). Utapau™ Defense By Rui Miguel Hello there! Utapau™ Defense is a product concept I made as a fictional LEGO set. With the AT-TE Walker set from Star Wars Episode 3 revealed this year I decided to make this small Minifigure pack; introducing a Crab droid as seen in the movie. I noticed a demand amongst fans to have a Crab droid in LEGO form, so from model design, building instructions to packaging I set my skills on this challenge. I’m a fan of Star Wars and LEGO so during the design process I was very concerned about making and presenting as close as possible a LEGO Product experience and at the same time balancing a low-cost and easy-to-purchase/find existing LEGO parts.
