  1. Fort Maartens has until now been funded by the Sea Rats, but due to recent rises of the costs of forts, the Sea Rats have difficulty to keep paying for the powder and shot. The mayor of Poppy Port, Rodsh Derr, finds it important his settlement stays protected from unwanted visitors. and therefore decided to take over the costs. Because of the succesfull mining industry of Poppy Port the settlement has enough gold in the bank to pay the costs of the fort, even the preferred drink of the commander of the fort has been taking into the budget Rodsh Derr has dragged a chest of gold pieces to the gate of Fort Maartens, where the commander is eager to accept it. I hope I did @Kwatchi his creation honour with this little build.
  2. Dr. Anderson and James are visiting the new light house on Rocky Reef, just offshore of Poppy Port. James: So do this horses have to walk around all night? dr. Anderson: No no, they just lift the weight, and then the weight will drop slowly over night to rotate the glass and mirror. James: ah nice, and what is that red flag about? dr. Anderson: Could be a storm warning, but as you can see by the clear skies, I think this is a warning that Pirates hunters have been spotted. If I designed it well, the mirror and glass will rotate when the horses do, at the same time lifting the weight. and when the horses 'rest' the weight drops to rotate the mirror some more. If the speed regulator inside the house works as I thinks it does, I cannot tell from LDD, but immagine it does :D Bart PS: I'm back from sea :P
  3. After the prospecting report came the Major of Poppy Port send out a letter to a tribe of mountain dwelling men who live in the home country of his wife, the are rather short compared to the average minifig, but they are the best in the buisness. The digging of the mine started in the location the first finds where made. Gold mine 1 by Bart, on Flickr The outside of the mountain didn't do justice to the work the men on the inside had done, and the fastness of the gold resources found. 4. James and dr. Anderson are continuing their exploration of the lands behind Poppy Port on Sabre Island, leaving the Mill behind following the stream feeding it up the mountain. Prospecting near Poppy Port by Bart, on Flickr dr. Anderson: This is an odd coloured rock, it appears to be an ore line running up and into the mountain face. James: What kind of stuff is it? dr. Anderson: I'm not sure, I'll have to send it to a friend of mine so he can do some research on it. --- OC, Which forms do I use for a prospecting build? Build submital and Propperty license?
  5. I was assessing which bricks I have and what could be done, now I'm back to my real bricks. This scene emerged. Along the coast of Sabre Island just to the north of Poppy Port itself, the "Poppy Port Defence Fleet" was out in full force to train among the treacherous shallow waters with all the rocks and reefs. The newly appointed commander was drilling his rowers hard. - WHY for the holy brick are you anchored! The commander shouted to the Theta O. Barry wasn't really impressed by the 'commander' on board the Iota O. and explained that his boat mate wasn't aloud out by his wife, and with the current being to strong to row back he decided to anchor and fish. The commander knowing said wife wasn't about to argue, but after eyeing the amount of fish Barry had caught, he just shouted back "You are responsible for dinner tonight!" PS Maybe it's a bit obvious for some, but I named the boats after star names (same as the FTA Achernar) but with the Achernar it was a bit random choice, this time I was more thoughtful about it, Iota O. (blue boat) and Theta O. (brown boat) are two of the three stars in the Sword of Orion, I choice the sword because of Sabre Island.
  6. Even a starting settlement needs an office for the local clergy to oppress rule administrate from. I tried to keep the same feeling of the terrain as with my first build in Poppy Port but with your comments about needing more detailing on the terrain in my mind. The building is a simple wooden construction, with a canvas roof. As the port is still under development, there is no incoming trade yet and building materials are sourced locally. Poppy Port - Mayor Office by Bart, on Flickr Poppy Port - Mayor Office 2 by Bart, on Flickr Poppy Port - Mayor Office 3 by Bart, on Flickr The first ship with mail has found it's way into Poppy Port. Dr. Anderson! the office lady calls out, a letter for you!. Dr. Anderson was just about to join James at James Creek for some relaxed fishing.
  7. Name: Poppy Port Ownership: Sea Rats Location: Sabre Island Mayor: Rodsh Derr @Bart Settlement status: Hamlet founded 4 April 618 Town since 21 July 618 Who can own property in Poppy Port: Anyone. Who can freebuild in Poppy Port: Anyone. Description: The first settlement of Sabre-Island, the harbour may be tricky to reach due to rocky formations and reefs near and under the water surface, but a recent hydrographic survey has charted them carefully and has placed two markers to guide ships trough a save passage to the harbour. The harbour has ample supply of fresh water and is capable of receiving deep drafted vessels. Rumours have it that there are fortunes to be made on Sabre Island, and Poppy Port is it's open front door. Geographical Features: Featuring blunt cliffs on several sides, the Hilt (the eastern-most Island in this chain) features a tall, dormant volcano. The Blade (The Westernmost Island) also features a more eroded dormant volcano on the east side, but gradually slides into the waves going west. The archipelago rests in the thick of a coral reef, whose unpredictable depth has already been the grounding of more than one large vessel. The Island itself is fertile and could grow sugar cane quite well. Rumours: A roguish band of ship scavengers has been operating out of "The Hilt", preying on the ships that wreck in the reef. Whether or not this is true remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Precious little remains of those ships that did ground in the waters surrounding "The Hilt and the Blade"
  8. Poppy Port – Sabre Island (zone 26) – Sea-Rats Hydrographic exploring Poppy port - Hydrographic exploring by Bart, on Flickr dr. Anderson: Well hurry up with those boxes will you James. James between his puffing: Yes, doctor. dr. Anderson: This looks like the ideal spot! Fresh water, flat beach, deep ocean waters near the coast, only some rocky patches that need attention. James I want the tent where you put those boxes. James: Urgh.. yes, doctor. dr. Anderson: Oh and I want to be on top of that hill before noon, which I reckon is in forty… six! minutes. Bring my gear James! James grunts as a response. Poppy Port - Hydrographic exploring 2 by Bart, on Flickr dr. Anderson: This will do, this will do just fine. James, we will build the first marker, point Alfa, right here! James knowing that ‘we’ meant ‘him’ in those words, was just happy he could’ve catched his breath will the doctor was doing his measurements. Poppy Port - Hydrographic exploring 3 by Bart, on Flickr James: What is this marker Alfa for doctor? dr. Anderson: For us to use as a point zero from where we will make all our measurements. James: Measurements? dr. Anderson: Yes we’ll go out in our boat, and make depth soundings at regular spacing, so we can draw up a map of this new harbour. James knowing that meant rowing, and rowing and more rowing didn’t really look forward to the idea. James: Why do we need a harbour here anyway doctor? dr. Anderson: Oh well there isn’t anybody here that could eavesdrop on us, but our contractor Mrs. Derr thinks there is a money to be made from commodities from this island. And to take those commodities off the island one needs ships, and ships need harbours. Poppy Port - Hydrographic exploring 4 by Bart, on Flickr dr Anderson: James if we put another marker right on this rock here, marker Alfa and this new one… James: Delta, doctor? dr. Anderson: Yes Delta sounds good. Well those two Alfa and Delta will form a line, indication a save passage through the rocks we charted, and ships can use them to enter this Harbour. James: So ‘we’ have to build another marker? dr. Anderson: Excellent idea James, if you can start getting the necessary tools and supplies. I’ll be there in a moment. James: Yeah sure. Poppy Port - Hydrographic exploring 5 by Bart, on Flickr So this is the build I want to start a new settlement ‘Poppy Port’ with, on Sabre Island (Sea Rats-zone 26). But how on earth do I license this? It’s a 48x48 base plate, but half of it is water (aka bare baseplate). Do I license the doctor and James their activities as hydrographic surveyors i.e. artisan or do I license the structures, marker Alfa and Delta as art’s and crafts (as they are the permanent builds) Or do people think this isn’t enough to start a settlement, then I’d like to hear that too. I know I know I could’ve build something easier to license, but I had this idea. And building out my ideas comes before wondering how it fits into the game, sorry. *if people think, why are those markers that big! Well you had to be able to see them from quit a distance, and then measure angles with the sextant to find out your position. I believe them to be accurate in size and appearance, in real life they would have been made of a light wood construction covered with linen painted black.
