Hello everyone, today I present to you another mod of a Lego modular. This time it's Pet Shop 10218. With a view to wanting to complete all the Modulars by Lego for my diorama, I started thinking about how to exploit the few spaces available. I must say that the apartment above the shop gave me the biggest headaches, as there was very little space there and although I managed to use all the original pieces, I had to add a 6x10 plate on the top floor. This allowed me to move the bed, add a small closet and the bathroom. On the first floor, however, I completed the furnishings with an armchair, another chair and a guitar. As for the painter's apartment, I was very hesitant to represent it as an apartment under renovation, but in the end I decided to furnish this one too. On the ground floor I created a recessed cabinet for the television and moved the couch towards the front. This way I was able to raise a wall to place a small kitchen near the bathroom and a corner table. On the first floor, where the painter is working, there is the bedroom, while on the top floor I left an attic area, but on the terrace I placed a barbeque. Hope you like it. Hi everyone, to do something lighter and to be able to position this modular in the diorama I'm designing, I decided to add some details to the back of the building and to complete the furnitures of the various floors. Without altering the original construction it would have been almost impossible. I got away with it by simply moving the carpet and the clock on the second floor. In any case I managed to create a kitchen in the bay window and a living room in front of the fireplace on the first floor. On the second one I built a bathroom and a bedroom. I think I've found a good compromise. In any case you can download the model from Rebrickable for free. If you like it or have any comments, please let me know. Hello folks! Just thought this may be good to make a new topi outside of “Modular Buildings Sets - Rumors, Discussions” and “Modular Building Wishlist” threads. If you think it’s unnecessary to make this topic, please be my guest to close/delete this thread (I’m speaking directly to moderators). Now, allow me to ask you - Will Lego revisit and remake the older, retired Modular Buildings, such as Cafe Corner, Green Grocer, Fire Brigade, etc? I ask because I just start collecting the Modular Buildings sets that are still on the shelves, such as Police Station, Boutique Hotel, Jazz Club, Bookshop. I want to hunt and catch retired Modular Buildings in the secondary market. To be honest, I am not very pleased with wild price tags on those old buildings. As a new collector, I feel Lego should revisit and remake the retired modular buildings. It may be a “win” for me and other new fans/collectors. Also, there are so many new building techniques, new parts, new colors tha the retired sets don’t have - I think it would be ery nice to see designers do that. Of Ouse, Lego would recieve backlash from the “veteran” collectors who already have Cafe Corner, Fire Brigade, etc becuase they want to get new buildings, like hopsital, school, etc. in other word, Lego would get backlashes from both sides. So….What is your thought?

Here is my review on 10312 Jazz Club: THE GOOD Looks great and much better than product photos. Just enough new building techniques and design to keep the experience refreshing. The Green House even though the tomatoes a bit big =P Great selection of exclusive parts (new pizza, cello ... etc) THE NOT SO GOOD A few hard to access areas where it limits the visibility of some very nice small details in this set. Not really fitting the colour scheme of other modulars, I still couldn't figure out which 2 other modulars are best to put beside this. May be just mine but the side of the roof seems to be 0.5mm wider than the next level down. I really like this set in the end, it may not be my top modular but it has plenty of greatness I appreciate. One thing I want to note is that some of the new building techniques really make this another refreshing build, because if you have owned a lot of modulars, it can become a bit repetitive at time, the new ways of building things are so crucial and I think this set has done it right. On its own, the Jazz Club looks really good and I do think the actual colour combination looks way better than what's in the product photos. The highlights for me are the green house and the entrance. The green house is such a cool build you could reuse the same techniques elsewhere although the tomatoes are definitely too big and I also wonder what are the herbs the chef is planting =P The entrance also great. This sets also comes with a great selection of new parts both printed and recolour of existing bricks. Minifigures comes with some very cool exclusive prints (at least for now it's exclusive to this set). I wish they include a few more minifigures to be the audience of the show but anyway I have an excessive amount of minifigures so doesn't really bother me. There are so much cool small details in this set which brings me to the few criticism of this set. While it's a common issues with modular build like this, some of the areas are quite hard to access or view unless you break the wall apart. Also may be it was just my set but the one side of the roof seems to be sticking out around 0.5mm, it's very minor but it sometimes trigger the OCD inside of me. Otherwise, this set is very good. While not the top of all modulars but it really has enough greatness that made me recommend this to everyone.

1940s short school bus - real world MOC (for use with Modular Buildings or Winter Village)

I remade my magic school bus model into a school bus from an older time period (the 1940's) and I think I like this version better. There are some anachronisms (such as the swinging stop sign arm) that didn't exist on school buses in the '40s, but I am using Modular Building / Winter Village logic here: old fashioned vehicles and buildings, with some modern features strewn about when needed. Like many of my vehicle models the roof does not come off to get at the inside details, but then again, there aren't much in the way of details in there anyway. (Yes, the stop sign is printed wonky. There is nothing I can do about it.) Thoughts? -
Hi, I'm Tim and I'm in Canada. 43 now and I've grown up with LEGO my whole life, I focused on Classic Space when I was a kid, my brother was into Castle. During my 20s and 30s most of my LEGO was packed away. Last year I pulled them out again since my kids were now getting into LEGO as well. Going through my old collection and cleaning it up rekindled my addiction for it and I've started collecting now. I am amazed by the Creator Expert line and Modular Buildings collections. I also like the Creator 3in1 and Speed Champions as well as anything that I'll find interesting to build. Keep building!

My construction is perfectly adaptable to the other Modular Buildings. Normally Lego Modular are made up of 3 or more blocks with a top view. I prefer to open the construction halfway to the side because it allows for greater playability and a better view of the internal rooms. Obviously it's my personal opinion. I have used Lego Digital Designer for the project while for the rendering Studio. The building consists of 2384 bricks and is divided into 3 levels. Ground Floor: Living Room First Floor: Kitchen Second Floor: Bedroom and Bathroom Measures 15.4” (39cm) high, 9.4” (24cm) wide and 9” (25cm) deep. Two years ago, in a break between some Mocs, I spent a couple of evenings working on the interior furnitures for the 10182 Cafe Corner. Everything has been designed to be inserted without touching any existing details of the first classic Modular Building. Neither the walls, no part has been replaced. All I did was simply trying to add things and details. Even plate to make more solid the floors. But let's go inside the description: On the ground floor there is a café (obviously), I looked for similar French cafè on the internet to get some inspirations, so I tried to give an 'art nouveau' look with arches enclosing the area with tables, leather sofas ... Among the arches I've put lattice in the completed model, to give a sensation of being inside a gazebo (unluckily LDD doesn't accept lattice inside arches)... To this lattice a fixed 2x2 pictures decorated tiles using technic pins Floral decorations were very popular in the Art Nouveau, so I placed flowers on the pillars. The bar counter with wood inlaid is completed with foodbox. The cabinet on the back has more or less what you can usually find in a bar, glasses, bottles and a coffee machine. The central door has been given a bell. The tile and plate scattered in the air have been put to fill the holes left in the set. The staircase has been all covered and equipped with handrails. The first floor includes the Hotel reception with a small bench and the bell, a plant, a single room with a bed and wardrobe and a bathroom in common. Unfortunately the space is what it is and the chance to do complex things, or more accurate was impossible. But in the end, if we think about it, a few decades ago it was usual to find small hotel with a shared bathroom in the hallway, so I thought it could fit in a consistent manner. Above the reception desk I placed a classic shape chandelier. On the second floor there are two bedrooms, one double and one single ... Above the stairs, another chandelier with classic shape. Hi everyone. I'm Sebastiaan. I've made a couple small brick flicks over the past years, trying to mix puppeteering and crude stop motion to illustrate some of my songs. Here they are : the first one is part of my "one song a week" series I did in 2017 where I made 52 original songs & live videos in as many weeks. for this one the live video file got corrupted so I came up with this little setup and the second one is a short story, part of my 2018 album "the flower in my chest" which is a concept album telling a story (the last chapter is set to release before the end of this month) I hope you'll enjoy!

I thought you might like to see a couple of modular buildings and MOCs laid out in a city layout. Each level represents a specific cross section of the town. While they are not physically linked, they are connected in concept, relative position and imagination. So, each cross-section is part of the same city. Seen in its entirety, the multi-level display represents a logical overview of a large town; relative to the small area space it takes up. It consists of approximately 62,000+ pieces with a total of over 50 sets/ MOCs and more than 150 MiniFigs. Most of the sets displayed are official LEGO sets but have been modified in one way or another, some more drastically than others. Hi, I just recently got around to build Brick City Depot's modular consulate, and I'm thinking I need a fitting car. I did a modified version of the 60058 SUV in all black, but it turned out way too big. To even pass through the gate, the car can be at most six studs wide. I also want it to match the fire truck and limo from the official sets, in size and somewhat in style too. I'll gladly take any suggestions anyone may have. The new Creator set 31065 just screams "Modularize me!", doesn't it? ;) Nice architectural details, realistic colours, a cool fire escape. It's a little low, but hey, in no city are all buildings of the same height. My initial idea was to buy two and merge them into one modular building, but after I had built the first one according to the instructions – as a starting point for my MOD – I realized that only very little needs to be done to make it a 16-wide modular. Mostly just basic bricks for the back wall. At this stage, I was still thinking of adding another of those bay windows to each floor to add a little to the height, but in the end I actually like it the way it is. So I decided to simply make it narrower by remowing the window on the left side of the door. Since I needed the whole building to be of the same height, I added the window above the door – fits nicely, I think. When I had the first building ready, I simply built a second one next to it. Actually, three in a row might look nice... So this is what it looks like as a 32-wide double. It very much reminds me of the style of housing that the Gallagher family lives in in Chicago's South Side, so I just had to place a homeless drunk on the sidewalk :D I still need four of those dark stone grey shaft with balls to complete the roof. The sides are very plain, and also the fire escape had to be relocated – now it's in the back, which gives the backside a nice detail together with the window, tree and some seating. Usually, when I have the façade finished, and if it's a commercial building, the interior, then I just run out of ideas and inspiration so the backside remains very plain. In this case, however, the set came with enough details to furnish the backyard. The chairs and barbeque are borrowed from 31052 Vacation Getaways, the tree is a combination of two 31065 trees, the birds are 31065 originals. I also added an entrance to the basement. There's a modest interior, as well. This is the top floor with one apartment having a 31065 bed, the other one a 31052 bed. There are no stairs, that would eat up all the room inside. Gotta use that fire escape! The main floors both have identical kitchens. Again, the furniture is a combination of 31065 and 31052 to get some variation. As you can see in this picture, the buildings share a common basement. There's a pillar in the middle to add support for the upper floors. Two similar fireplaces, though. The main floor is so low that the door needs to be placed here, otherwise it doesn't fit. This works out relatively nicely altough the door does come off a little too easily when removing and placing the top floors back. Wouldn't work in a real set. The two floors are separate, though, but the roof is just one common piece. Don't you think the 31065 looks great as a modular? It's a very inexpensive way to build MOD modulars, too. You need one set per one 16-wide modular and then mostly just basic bricks in tan and dark red as well as dark stone grey tiles. That's about it – some plates for the floors/ceilings, too. This time I went for a different approach in modular building. Heavily inspired by the Haunted House, I wanted to create a stand-alone building with garden. From the start of the project, I was working in parallel on both of the houses, hence I am presenting them together. At the back of the house, there's lots of space that wasn't filled with details. The plan is to build a railway track in the back for the town layout of our LUG's upcoming exhibition. However, I wanted to add details to the back to see more life in town. There's a small barbecue at the back of the grey house, and a small siting area with wooden table and benches. The houses were built in similar style. It's obvious the sand green one is a MOD of Haunted House, while the grey one followed in style. My favourite details of both houses are the entrances. It's obvious, again, they were made by the same 'architect'. Both of the houses were made in modular fashion. The floors can be lifted to see furnished interiors. To start with the sand green house, there's a lovely corner just under the roof, in the bedroom actually, where the floor is in different levels, to make an easier access to the window, as well as to create a sitting area or just to make room for extra decorations. In the middle floor, there's a reading corner, to enjoy afternoons with a great book and relaxing in a quiet space. The other side of the floor is a bathroom - probably the most challenging build in the house. As it's crammed in a tight space, there's not much room for details. It has the basics (a bath, toilet and a sink) and a few pinkish decorations - it's a girls bathroom. The ground floor is the main area, there's a kitchen partly hidden under the stairs, and on the opposite site is the dining area. I'm quite happy with the kitchen, as I tried a ''different'' look. It gets hard not to repeat yourself with details. The dining area is parallel to a sitting area with a small couch and TV. There's also large glass door to the side porch and a view of the garden. The garden is small, but green. Also, it's facing away from the neighbouring house, so it's a nice and quiet place to relax. On the side, the grey house is more lively, with both colours and life. There's a similar floor arangement, with kitchen, diner and living room on the ground floor. This time, a TV set is hidden under the stairs, and a nice view of the garden can be enjoyed from the couch. The terrace is more open, and is only partly covered by sun shades. From the terrace, the garden is easily accessible. The terrace itself is one of the two favourite parts of the house. My other favourite part of this house is the daybed on the middle floor. It's next to a large window to enjoy the view. It's easy to imagine myself lying there, reading a crime novel, enjoying a hot cup of tea and watching snow falling down (or just daydreaming). There's a bathroom on the middle floor as well, a small one, and similar in style to the bathroom of the sand green house. The top floor is modestly furnished. It's a bedroom, so there's not much to see. My favourite detail is the bed with a book shelf included, that was inspired by one of the Ikea's models. The New Century Corner, a display of five modular houses inspired by early 1900s architecture which I love. This was built for a LUG collaborative modular town in Model Expo 2016 that took place couple of weeks ago. From left to right: House of Two Whistling Geezers, House of Two Sisters, House of the Bat-Lord and Three Sinners, The House of Secret Society of Aviation, The House of Golden Frogs. The houses were built by first tablescrapping some interesting bits and the creating the rest of the building around them. That's what I usually do, anyway. The first of the houses (Two Sisters) was built in last November and the last (Bat-lord and sinners) was finished couple of week before the event. I might expand this to a whole block in the future, with four corner modulars and several houses between them. More pictures and talk on the blog.

Okay, so this is what I started with. One set was well enough for the 2-storey version, but I ended up getting an extra set and building a third floor. It's still a WIP, though. The window decorations are not completed; I'm waiting for a PAB order and after that, I still need some tan cheeses. The ground floor storefront is empty (or nearly empty, I've temporarily put the 31036 minibuilds there). It will ultimately be a bags & accesories store. The chewing gum machine will remain, though. From the side, you can see that the sand green facade is sort of a charade, all the other walls are white on the ground floor as well. I'm quite satisfied with the backside. The ground floor is a little plain since I want to use the back wall of the store for shelves. The second floow interior is borrowed from Olivia's house 3315. There's room for the huge TV, the sofa and some lamps on the wall. The small stand by the stairs is a 31036 original design. Sadly no room for a refigerator in the open kitchen. The bedroom is on the third floor. All the furniture is from Olivia's house 3315 except for the lamp, which is from 3136, where it featured as a (very small) street lamp. The two grey flat 1x1 round tiles will be removed after I receive one more tan grille 1x2.

After 7 months of on- and off-building, my Modular Corner Neighborhood is finally built. When I started building the three buildings, my only goal was to use only parts I had at home. Well, I failed that. My favourite of the three is the corner building Cupcake Cafe despite the fact that it's the only half furnished. On the ground floor, there's the best Cupcake Cafe in town. The top floors are empty, but not for long. The new owner is already moving in some of his furniture. The moving van is a recycled MOC from a long time ago. The other modular building is the Grocery store. As the name implies, there's a Grocery store on the ground floor, and an appartment above. The store is small, but it has the basics. There's a nice variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh bread, dairy products, jams, etc. My inspiration for the store was the 10684 Supermarket Suitcase. The middle floor of the Grocery store building is the living area. On one side there's a small kitchen, on the other a living room, and in between is the dining area. The top floor has a large bedroom and a bathroom. The 16-wide building is residential. The ground floor has a kitchen, and door to a small terrace (I removed the wall for the photo session). On the middle floor is a living room with a more modern furniture. On the top floor is a bedroom with ensuite bathroom. The buildings can be rearranged in a linear layout. I added some details also to the back of the Grocery store building, mostly to hide the large grey wall. The buildings have some details also on the back side. Most of them I was taking during the building process so they're not perfect, but most of the details can be seen.

For the first time in about 5 years I am building a Technic set, the 24 Hours Race Car - 42039. I had forgotten how much I enjoyed building Technic sets. In 2008 when I started LEGO again I was building mostly NXT constructions and Technic sets. The last Technic set I built was the 8258 Crane Truck. Wow! That was a great set. Then I discovered the Cafe Corner and I was seduced away from Technic by Modular buildings. Then for the next 5 years I mostly bought and built modular buildings, Winter Village, an occasional Star Wars set and a random selection of other themes, then Monster a Fighters mostly for Halloween. Several years ago I even sold many of my Technic sets... I had an unopened Crane Truck, a front loader and an 8043... All still in box, I was convinced that I was done with Technic, so they were sold. I even sold a a Crane Truck and Off Roader that I had built. The one I miss the most is the Crane Truck. I don't want to own it, I just want to build it. I have quite a few a Technic parts, and I recently bought the 42009, 42042, 42037 and the 42039. I must have enough parts to build the Crane a Truck, maybe not in the proper colors, but I just to build and disassemble it anyway so it doesn't matter. Who else has been seduced away from one LEGO theme by another LEGO theme only to later find that they missed their original theme? Are you now building in the theme you "left for good"? Or are you still having an affair with a new LEGO theme? Well now I am going to get a balance between Technic, Modular Buildings, Winter Village and whatever other short term LEGO affair comes along. Hello All, I've kinda tried to go out of the norm and try to give an in-depth introduction about my passion for Lego. My name is Dan, and i'm just starting to get back into Lego. After a lull of around 9 years. I stopped buying and assembling Lego as a teenager. And have recently started picking it back up again. I'm a huge modular building fan and love how so many different existing parts can be used to create intrinsic and delicate elements. I guess Lego has helped shape my career in construction and also made me come back to this incredible hobby. I became a big watch collector but have stepped away from it in the hope my childhood/teen hobby can reinvigorate my imagination and my roots of Lego instilled in myself. In the lego community, the modular buildings are held in awe. For most AFOLS, they represent a high point in all the sets TLG has released. Rumors about the new modular building are eagerly followed by the fans. These sets even made their (previously anonymous) designers into a sort of celebrities. A couple of months ago my girlfriend and I moved to a new, bigger, apartment. When we were packing I decided to tear down my modulars in order to clean them from dust etc. Now I’ve finally found the time to start cleaning and rebuilding. And I’d like to use this opportunity to see if the modulars hold to their reputation. Hence this rebuilding project. The sets I’m going to rebuild are: 10182 Café Corner 10190 Market Street 10185 Green Grocer 10197 Fire Brigade 10211 Grand Emporium 10218 Pet Shop 10224 Town Hall Palace Cinema and Parisian Restaurant are not a part of this project for the simple reason that they I can’t be re-build them. I own Palace Cinema, but I never had the room to build it when we were living in our old apartment. The Parisian Restaurant was the first set I build when we moved to our new place. I’m not going to use a fixed checklist for judging every set, but basically I’ll be judging the modulars on building techniques, esthetics and (lack of) repetitive building. I’d like to point out that all this is just my personal opinion. I realize that not everybody is going to agree with things I think of as beautiful or ugly, but as the old saying goes: de gustibus et coloribus non disputandum est. This rebuilding project is not going to be is a series of reviews. There are excellent reviews of all the modulars in this rebuilding project, so I’m not going to rehash what is already written. Also, I’m not going to focus on (rare) parts etc. Firstly because I’m not familiar with this and secondly because for me, rare parts or parts in special colours are no reason to buy the modulars. I like the buildings and the techniques, but special parts are not a selling point for me. Again, this is just me and again, this rebuilding project is very subjective. I'm not going to grade the modulars on a scale. I find it very hard to do, so you'll have to do with vague terms like "beautiful", "nice" "boring" etc. Maybe (just maybe), I might give a ranking after rebuilding all my modulars. 1: Café Corner 2: Market Street 3: Green Grocer 4: Fire Brigade 5: Grand Emporium I’ll try to post as regularly as possible, I hope to post at least once a week (if RL allows).
