Hi all! I've recently finished a pair of mechs. Normally I would post two threads, but these belong together. The idea was to make a versatile frame which could serve as basis for multiple different mobile suits, which would help save time with designing complicated body components such as the cockpit and articulated waist (more on that later). In the end, I'm a little skeptical if the cockpit is actually suitable for different add-ons beyond simple colour swaps. In any case, the design uses pretty common parts which are available in many different colours. For the moment, I'm satisfied with my M-tron and Ice Planet variations, but I wouldn't rule out more colour swaps in the future. Now without further ado, let's get to the pics: General Overview It's no secret that OXON III, which I made last year (see topic), was the go-to reference for these new mechs. I adopted its angular design language, and partially copied its lower arms, legs and hands. I was also aiming for the same size as OXON, but with a great reduction in weight, which I succeeded in. The Ice Planet FOXX was constructed first, although the differences between the two are minor. Functions & Features Not much to discover here, just an opening cockpit. Any mobile suit or mecha should suit a pilot in my opinion, so it's there. Interior detail is absent, though. No hidden canons in the shoulders that OXON had, either. Most of the assets are to be found in the other departments. Articulation This is where the the main innovations were made. First of all, there is front to back waist articulation. The upper torso can raise up, come down, lean a bit backward and lean quite a lot forward, over the hips. No side to side movement or twisting of the torso. I wanted to try to my hand at functional waist actuators. I couldn't figure out a cylinder-bar construction, which would allow for independent 'pushing and pulling' on the upper torso. Instead, mine are a fixed length, so I made the distance to the torso (in place of their individual length) variable. They are both connected to a block that slides up and down the crotch (is groin or pelvis a more correct term?). This is done with 1x4 bricks with inset and 1x2 'slider plates', but it doesn't add friction. There's a technic ball joint in the spine and together with two pairs of small ball joints in the actuators there is enough friction (most of the time) to keep the torso in the pose you want it to be in. In addition, I made a number of smaller improvements. In general, the limits of what the joints can bear are exceeded less easily due to reduced weight compared to OXON. The neck follows the 'floating head' design from X-RAY³ (topic here), rather than a more humaniod ball-socket connection. It has more points of articulation and is able to look up much further, which is useful when the torso is facing the ground. Furthermore, the shoulders are less restricted in their outward movement, and made more simplified the ankle stabilizers. Interaction Mechs are more fun together, I tested it for you! Hello everyone, this is my new LEGO Gundam MOC. This time i want to try to build a Mobile Suit from Universal Century timeline which has similar design with RX78-2 Gundam in the Scale 1/60. This Gundam is from the movie "Mobile suit Gundam F91", piloted by Arno Seabook ( appear again in Cross Bone Gundam ). The "F" in the name stand for "Formula". This is light class Gundam, and of course shorter than other normal Mobile Suit. But this Suit equipped with the very powerful weapon: Variable Speed Beam Rifles (VSBR) on the back. At first i just make it extend the length just like the MG version. But then i think its possible to implement the extended armor just like Metal Build version, and this is the result. You can pull out the Heat Radiations Fins from both shoulder armors and Retractable Thrusters from behind of legs unit. You can only push the back of the leg and all 3 thruster will be bursted out. X-RAY³ Mobile Suit I'm back with another mech! The head takes after OXON, but overall I went with a more beastly vibe, somewhat inspired by Horizon Zero Dawn. I chose yellow because I had never really used it as a main colour before and for its association with danger and toxicity. Without further ado, let's get into the pictures and some backstory: X-RAY³ is a special assault-type mobile suit. It is a vicious firestarter, designed for aggressive surprise attacks that plunge the enemy into chaos. While rampaging with its multi-compound chemical blasters, its various sensory systems gather as much data within enemy territory as possible, before the main forces arrive. The multi-compound blasters are like miniature chemical plants, producing a range of combustibles, acids and noxious gasses. Opening hatches: LIDAR imaging sensors, cockpit and fuel cell compartment. The fearless adrenaline junkie that pilots X-RAY. And that's it! I particularly enjoyed doing the chicken legs (with mechanical claws!) and head. The shoulders were challenging, I wanted to get those 45-year-old dual-moulded (?) doors in. The spinal neck was cool to do, but unfortunately the head pops off quite frequently when I try to pose it. I'm really happy with how the blasters turned out - it took lots of trial and error - although I wish they would have as much detail on the inside as the outside, since that side is exposed a lot when the blasters are facing outwards. On the whole, I like it very much. I'm already planning the next mobile suit in the line! Thanks for looking, I hope you like it! C&C always welcome!

My new Lego Gundam MOC, base on a Gundam in season 2 of the series "Mobile suit Gundam 00", piloted by main character. This mobile suit later will attach with the mobile armor 0-Raiser to become 00 Raiser which is very powerful. Name: 00 Gundam Code: GN-0000 Upgrade form: 00 Raiser Pilot: Setsuna F Seiei Power source: 2 GN-Drive (Twin-drive). Series: Mobile suit Gundam 00 Weapon: 2 GN-sword, 2 beam saber. Compare to my previous MOC from "Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans" which i wanted to simple and easy to build the inner frame. Hi guys! Back in March, I came to this subforum to share my first sci-fi creation (this one). Finishing that one sparked a range of ideas for other builds in the mobile suit (a.k.a. mech) genre. Today I'm sharing my second mobile suit MOC: "OXON III". Overview & Specifications OXON III is an assault-type mobile suit, designed for military interventions and special operations. Model III is loaded with sophisticated features, including: Anti-radar stealth armour Projectile trajectory tracking system (PTTS) Booster-assisted super-maneuverability NervLink cockpit 2 wrist cannons 2 retractable turrets 4 hidden plasma cannons Functionality Target acquired. Shoulder mounted PTTS activated. Plasma cannon hatches deployed. Firing plasma cannons. Deploy and firing turrets. Warning: Failure detected. Location: Left turret. Functionality report: 50%. Condition report: Steady. Cause: Unknown. Ejecting pilot. Articulation & Posability Size comparison Builder's notes I had three main goals in mind for OXON. First of all, it needed to be larger than Handyman (pictured above, left). Secondly, it would have improved articulation and body proportions. Thirdly, I wanted it to have hidden weapons. For the colour scheme, I settled on black, accents of white and (printed) silver decorations. To underline the military, stealthy purpose of the mech, I chose to stick to angular shapes as much as possible. There were a couple of challenges with this build. I started with the thighs, which have an internal bend to allow the legs to come further inward than the standard 90 degree angle (ratcheted joint) with the hips. Then, getting the plasma cannons into the shoulders was harder than I expected. However, the most difficult part came at the end, when I discovered that the ankles needed additional friction to support the weight in various positions. It took a lot of trial and error to figure out the ankle stabilizers, but to be honest I'm really proud of how they work and look. Conclusion Overall, I think I have made great steps with OXON. I achieved the goals that I had in mind and I am more than satisfied with the result. It makes me already look forward to my next mech build! As always, C&C appreciated!

Hello, sci-fi forum dwellers! I'm new to this subforum and this will be my very first MOC here! After watching Evangelion Neon Genesis and Mobile Suit Gundam: 08th MS Team, I was inspired to build a mech of some sort. Today, I proudly present my first mech: "Handyman". Handyman is a Utility Type mobile suit, built for a wide range of tasks. Its light armour allows for good articulation and agility. Handyman has counterweighted shoulders, to facilitate carrying heavy load around, a multi-tool left hand for salvaging, powerful light units, shoulder-mounted shooters and a retractable arm blade for minor combat. Aside from its utility programs, Handyman also has a recreational mode: All the Soldier Type mobile suits are envious of these breakdance moves! Bloody utility peasants... "Catch!" "You better keep your distance, mate! I have a power dagger and I'm not afraid to use it!" Handyman is operated by a single pilot, who is seated in the torso: Thank you for viewing! I purposely build this unit to be a lego Technic set with 4 functions _2 "Beam cannons" can be turn up down : _Switch forward the level and rotate the upper gear to control the 2 "Turret machine guns" on both side of the Fatum. The machine gun has 2 part, 1 main gun on top and 2 support guns which is my addition and can move independently. _Switch back the level and rotate the upper gear to control 2 wings. I did this because i think it'd be more interesting to control both wings at once. _Rotate the other gear to extend the Fatum so there will be more space for the mobile suit can stand on it which you can see below. This is how the Fatum be attached on Justice's back : How it stands on the Fatum : This is the other way to attach the Fatum-00 : My other addiction is the mode which i call "Full thrust mode" . It's done! It's been extremely cold and snowy outside recently, so I figured it would look pretty nice standing in the snow. I'm a recent convert to a Gundam fanatic - I've only seen Gundam 00 and Gundam Unicorn as of yet. I have plans to watch Gundam SEED and Gundam Wing soon though. I was going to build one of the Gundam mobile suits from Gundam 00, but since that's a much newer show they're extremely greebly and have tiny bits sticking off in every direction. RX-78-2 is much more iconic, and consists of quite a bit more flat surfaces, so I figured I had a better chance of building it with the limited parts collection and time I had. In fact, I decided I wanted to build a Gundam for a LUG display this year... three weeks before the show was scheduled. I figure that I put anywhere from 25-30 hours into this MOC, and I'm quite in love with the results. In fact, it looked quite good standing in the middle of our display: (I did hear more than one comment to the effect of 'That Transformer looks cool!' ) Though I did hear one 'stoic' applied, so I guess that evens it out! Of course we need to look at it up close... I had to apply two chest reduction surgeries to make everything look right I was originally going to go for the fancy rocket-backpack that my reference images had, but I eschewed that as I needed something sideways to hold the top onto the bottom apart from the few studs-up connections in the torso. A good thing too, because it hasn't fallen apart since! (This was an issue in the WIP model...) Possibly the one thing within the Gundam series that's more iconic than the titular mobile suits themselves: the Beam Saber! Let's not forget the accessories either: The Beam Magnum! The Medium Shield! The Beam Saber! Nothing too fancy here, this was the last item to be put together - it was the night before and I had to get up rather early... but it does its job! An accessories-only shot appears to be all the rage with Lego mech stuff nowadays, so here's one! And let's finish off with some more images: Some final thoughts... I did design it with full mobility in the joints, but it's just too heavy to really be posed in anything resembling an action shot. This is due to the weakness of the ankle joints, which are just standard Lego ball joint bricks; they're too weak to stand up to the weight and as a result the whole model is extremely prone to tipping over. To help counter this, I added some bricks surrounding the joint, but the result is that I can't really pose it in a proper action pose. In addition, the knee joints have limited travel due to the pieces I used to attach the short cone-like round pieces that you can see in the images. The arms are also fully poseable, but due to the fact that the armor pauldrons are attached to the body with a single Technic friction pin, there ends up not being enough force inherent in the joint to hold up the arm. The arm itself is attached to the pauldron with a ball joint and is therefore independently poseable from the pauldron. The next time I build a mobile suit or mecha on this scale, I'll have to look into increasing the poseability dramatically. I was starting to run out of tiles at the end and had to do some clever things to stretch my supply enough to cover the arms. Going studded was *not* an option! Overall, I feel that this project was well worth the time and effort I put into it. It's going to stay together for a long while, I think!
