Casa Azul - Frida Kahlo by Arfelan Nest, en Flickr La Casa Azul is the Intimate Universe of Frida Kahlo. In this beautiful residence, the artist lived most of her life; initially with her family and years later, with Diego Rivera. Likewise, interesting Mexican and foreign visitors stayed in this place, attracted by the captivating couple of artists. Blue House Interior by Arfelan Nest, en Flickr During her artistic career, Kahlo explored her identity by frequently depicting her ancestry as binary opposites: the colonial European side and the indigenous Mexican side. Frida wanted to leave her home as a museum, to be enjoyed by her beloved Mexico. For this reason, after her death, Diego organized here, the Frida Kahlo Museum. Blue House Gardens by Arfelan Nest, en Flickr The museography was the task of the museographer, teacher and great poet Carlos Pellicer, a very close friend of the couple. The Museum’s administration was entrusted to the Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo Museum Trust at the Bank of Mexico, established by Rivera himself in 1957. Blue House Collage by Arfelan Nest, en Flickr Since the Museum’s inauguration in July 1958, the Blue House exhibits the ambience that inspired Frida for her creation, as well as her personal belongings. Along with paintings by both artists, are displayed remarkable popular art pieces, pre-Columbian sculptures, photographs, documents, books and furniture. The beautiful garden is an essential part of the Blue House and it gives you access the exhibition of Frida’s Dresses.

Mariachi wagon and Mexican house One of the most vivid traditions of Mexico is surely the Mariachi culture. I’ve been always intrigued by Mariachi musicians and when LEGO released the Mariachi in Series 16 Collectible Minifigures I thought it was really cute and perfect for a Mexican themed MOC. My latest creation represents a classic Mexican scene: the Mariachi Wagon with the musicians on board ready to play the serenade to the beautiful girl on the terrace. On the right her father with his eyes well opened. The house boasts a multi-level terrace structure, a couple of arbors covered by flowers and a large patio. Cactus and plants of all kind are all around. In addition to the Mariachi, I also included in the diorama the Maraca Man (Series 2), Flamenco Dancer (Series 6), the Taco Tuesday Guy (the LEGO Movie) and the Cactus Girl (Series 18). San Gervasio is a Maya site located on the island of Cozumel in Mexico. It was a site of pilgramage to give offerings to the godess Ixchel. From Wikipedia about this particular building: Nohoch Nah Meaning: Big House Constructed during: Terminal-Classic (1000-1200 AD) and Post-Classic (1200-1650 AD) Location: North of the District 1 Central Plaza With its intact roof, this is one of the best preserved buildings in San Gervasio. Inside, (closed off to the public, but visible through the doorway) the interior walls still show signs of a red, ochre and blue mural. This building was a temple dedicated to Ku’kul’kan, the feathered serpent god. The actual site (not my pictures):

I was challenged by one of my friends to make a creation about some scary stories over there in Mexico. I decided to make them about stories my grandfather used to tell me when I was little.
