  1. There are a couple sources to get modified parts but 20$ although sensible for the time required to mod, isnt really justifiable for me, and whenever i try it myself it never works out. Ive been toying with the idea of making 3d printed pneumatics that already have lower friction requirements to move, and have wider ports. What im struggling to overcome though is what to do about the nature of 3d prints. The surface finish may look smooth, but it definitely has substantial friction to it when rubbing other parts and if i smooth it with sandpaper then i lose my tolerances. I have not found anyone else trying to do this or anyone else selling ready made lpe valves that are injection molded, likely because so few people want them. Any insights to making something like this would be appreciated because im stumped on how to make a valve design like lego's work in the same or similiar form factor.
  2. I’m trying to get green gecko‘s v8 engine to run after buying his instructions, but it runs very feebly. It turns over with modified cylinders and sort of starts then slows down repeatedly. If Any knowledgeable people that can assist me would help I would greatly appreciate it. I do have a hypothesis however. My idea the switch less valve is somehow built wrong somehow because it’s very complex, but I still think it is unlikely because the engine turns over although very slowly
  3. Hi, I designed a pretty compact inline 3 pneumatic engine: If someone‘s interested, I‘ll consider making instructions. Pascal Here are some pictures: https://share.icloud.com/photos/0nS1bu-NzDFND9IuROoaiSaQw https://bricksafe.com/pages/Paacsl/compact-inline-3-lpe
  4. Hello everybody, I am glad to introduce you my last big project : a pneumatic steam locomotive ! I think it's one of the firsts pneumatic locomotives, using only Lego parts. First of all, the YouTube video and some photos: The idea with this model is to replace the steam of a real Locomotive by compressed air, and this for as much functions as possible. Here are the main functions : Movement of the train : Using 4 pistons, 2 on the sides, and 2 inside, the train can move forward. It works like a classic LPE, with 2 pistons shifted 90° from the others. 4 pistons consume a lot of air, but they guarantee enough power to move the whole train. To make the rotation smooth, a free wheel is hidden inside the boiler part of the locomotive. Its rotation is 25 times faster than the wheels of the train (40t/8t x2). The train isn't moving very fast because the pneumatic elements aren't modified. However, it's fast enough to make it interesting to look at the connecting rods and wheels moving. The breaks : On a real locomotive, compressed air is produced by a compressor (powered by steam) and is used to press some brake shoes against the wheels. Here, the same technique is used : a small piston is filled with compressed air, and thanks to some rods, brakes shoes are pressed against the wheels. It's cool but...it's not enough. Plastic against plastic isn't very efficient to stop the train's movement. Therefore, another rod is connected to the brake system and press another brake shoe against the free wheel. Because its rotation is faster (and therefore, with a low torque), it's is way easier to stop it. The Whistle : A system that I love in this locomotive is the whistle. Currently there isn't any whistle produced by Lego that could be used in the locomotive, so I had to think a little for finding something working. This whistle is activated by a switch in the cabin. The Cabin : Nothing much to say except that in contains 3 switches for the 3 main functions (whistle, wheel movement and brakes). There is also a pressure gauge showing the pressure coming from pumps. The train moves with a minimum of 1 bar. A 2-2.5 bars, the movement is faster. The air supply : There are several possibilities for the train : we can directly pump with Lego pumps, or store the air into 6 to 8 airtanks or produce the air with Lego motors and small pumps. For instance I use 4 pumps side by side, linked to some air tanks, but I don't what the final model should work. Maybe some motors and pumps could be cool ? The design : The hard part was to make the boiler of the locomotive. It's a little hard to make cylinders with Lego technic parts but, with flex axles passing through Technic beams, I managed to make something satisfying. Some details are visible on the locomotive, I tried to make it look a little crowded like a real locomotive with fake air/sand tanks, fake compressors and mechanical elements. It's probably possible to make it look better, but for instance I am happy with it. The rails are "homemade" with Lego bricks. The locomotive is too big of course to work on Lego railtracks. The wheels aren't perfectly flat so the train is "blocked" in position inside the rails. Therefore, the train can move foward cur cannot go out of the railtracks (which is great for a train). Finally, as a bonus functions, there are some bumpers at the front and back of the locomotive to imitate the real bumpers used to absorb small chocs on a Locomotive. That's it for now, I hope the model is interesting to you and if that's the case, don't hesitate to support it on Lego Ideas ! 5. First of all, I'm completetly new here and my english isn't perfect. In the future I will start building an LPE powered car that is inspired by nicjasno and his E30. I'm not sure if I will model an existing car or create a new one, but it will be around the same size of his car. The gearbox is one thing that I just can't get over. I don't even care about how many gears it has, I mainly need reverse, because that is the only way of going backwards with an LPE car. It has to be RC controlled of course, which is easy to implement in a 1+r, but harder with more gears. The most important thing that it has to feature - smoothness and rigidity. If it isn't compact, then that's not a big deal. It will be powered by an Inline 4 LPE which revs up to 5000 rpm, so downgearing is needed as well. The other elements of the car aren't built right now because of the lacking parts, but I want to have the blueprints of the main elements of the car before I start building it. I know that I will have enough problems when I will build it, so I try to plan as much as possible before. If you have seen or have built something like this in the past, please share it with me!
  6. I believe I've made the fastest LPE powered car ever which beats the previous record by over 5km/h. It's powered by a V2 LPE and 6 bar of air pressure. Here is a little teaser, I'm still working on the car so nothing you see in the teaser is final.
  7. So finally I'm starting a new project, I've had a mini dark age for the past few months so its really nice to be back. I've always been an Audi guy and I really wanted to build a sports car that no one else has, so I chose a TT. To make it more interesting, I'm going with a rear wheel drive LPE powered drifting TT. Current specifications: - V2 LPE for propulsion - Servo for steering - No differential - No suspension And of course its going to be red with black accents. I also did some quick Photoshop just to see what it could look like in dark blue. Progress will be quite slow for the next few weeks as I have final exams coming up.
  8. I am a fairly new member to the Lego community but have immediately been interested in LPEs. Here is my idea: Has anybody ever built or thought about powering a compressor with the engine itself. So instead of having a compressor powered by a PF motor, connect the crankshaft of the engine to it. This removes the need for the motor entirely. You will obviously need some sort of external pump to get the engine turning over as a start, similar to a starter motor. The other problem I have thought of is that it will create a never ending cycle of the engine going faster and faster and faster, assuming that the compressor can produce more air than the engine needs and vice versa. I currently do not have the resources to test this myself so any feedback would be amazing! Is this a stupid idea? Are there other things I haven't thought of? What are your thoughts on this project? Thanks!
  9. Hello everyone After fiddling with my LPEs for some time, I have finally managed what I think is a first: a running engine using the large cylinders from the new V2 pneumatics series. Like many of us, I was very worried once linear actuators appeared that LEGO had given up on the expensive pneumatics. So I was very happy when they released the V2 system with the Mercedes Arocs set. Well some time has gone by and I simply have not had the disposable income to grab the set, so I finally stopped making excuses and just ordered some of the new cylinders off of ebay. After seeing how high the friction was on the cylinder, I immediately set about modifying them. I drilled the opening slightly larger and added a small amount of finer silicon lube. I ended up with a very large inline-4 with twin camshafts. It runs at a very low rpm but with a lot of torque, easily the most powerful LPE among the ones I have built. Here is the video of me modifying the pistons and running the engine. I owe quite a bit to builders like DrDudeNL, LPEPower, NCJanso, and many others! I started out following their instructions and copying their ideas, until with enough time and practice I came up with tricks and a style of my own. I am quite proud to show the first large cylinder LPE (...I think. Let me know if there has been another one forst and I will give credit). Anyways, let me know of you have any ideas or suggestions for improvement!
  10. Hello. If I have a Lego compressor and an LPE which are the exact same design, could one of them drive the other one? Is this possible?
  11. Hey, recently i was researching dry ice projects. It's really cool to make fogs for drink's, but one thing stood out for me. Somewhere on youtube guy made jar explode cause of dry ice. So , when dry ice melt it doesn't become a liquid,it becomes air and produces high pressure . So i am asking people who has experience with lego pneumatics , Would it be possible to power lpe on dry ice?
  12. On Friday I want to make a very small LPE powered rally car. So I started to think how I could fit my small(ish) LPE in the most compact way, soon realising that it was way too big. I made up my mind and thought that it would be better to make one with the small cylinders, but I do not have them. That did not stop me from designing a small inline 3 cylinder in LDD. I would be very happy to see someone else build it. The LDD/.lxf file is here: https://drive.google...cFVad2FBWWtyVVk And some pics: Please build it!!!!! :classic: thanks, Epic Technic
  13. A little work in progress I started recently. I decided to marry together two of my favorite projects, the LPE and the Oshkosh HEMTT 8x8 trial truck. I'm going to power it by a portable air tank and long air hose. I could use regulated C02 and have a onboard tank (a 20 oz paintball tank), but my tank is running low. HEMTT: LPE: And some progress:
