  8. Hello everyone! After receiving so many enquiries seeking instructions for my Zeta-class cargo shuttle, I am pleased to announce the release of a professional 768 page instruction manual for purchase. The final piece count is 4418, just surpassing 75159 Death Star. The completed model measures 70 x 56 x 38cm (wings upright). I have put together a package that includes the 768 page pdf instruction manual, parts list and LDD file. All of it is available for 25 British pounds (£25). If you would like to purchase the plans, please either PM me or contact me at renegadelight@googlemail.com. I will have a public parts list uploaded to rebrickable very soon (for simplicity, red coloured pieces can be anything you like, they are not visible from the exterior). I’m sure everyone appreciates the long hours that went into designing both the physical model and step-by-step build. I had a lot of fun putting this one together and hope others will too! The Rebrickable parts list is now live here. Here is the original thread from February 2017 and the Flickr album. I have revised the attachment between the wings and main body, but not been brave enough to motorise it - I'll leave that to someone else to try! Below are a few excerpts from the manual: Please feel free to use this thread to discuss anything about the model design, building steps, part substitutions, etc.

    [MOC] UCS Zeta-class cargo shuttle

Greetings everyone! After a couple of months work I am proud to present my minifigure scale Zeta-class cargo shuttle. “Manufactured by Telgorn Corporation with Sienar Fleet Systems, the Zeta-class shuttle carries a modular ‘interstellar orange’ cargo pod for versatility mounted on a 35.5m length frame.” Ever since Rogue One introduced the design, the industrial mining tug aesthetic appealed to me. It has the kit-bashed sensibility that I love in Star Wars, so I set about a UCS sized build. The lower cargo deck has space for troops and features a communications patch bay. I’m still working on finishing touches to the upper deck, but it houses the two seat command console and aft tech station. The gearing mechanism from 10212 locks the wings upright. By simply lifting the top deck away I can adjust the angle if required. The wingspan measures 1.15m, so I have yet to find space to photograph the wings in flight mode! During construction I used LDD for rapid prototyping. I still need to update the final build into the program, but the current ballpark is 4000 pieces. The Rogue One ultimate visual guide and Battlefront Scarif DLC were invaluable for determining the proportions. My personal technique for ‘minifigure scale’ is to calculate in-universe size against stud length. Small craft like speeders and skimmers skew towards 4.0s/m, starfighters 3.5s/m and large craft (e.g. UCS Slave 1 and Lambda shuttle) at 2.7s/m. Therefore I aimed for 92s long and 75s high. The final model measures 88s (l) 70s (h) 48s (w) / 70cm (l) 56cm (h) 38cm (w). Finally I threw together a Scarif landing pad for a diorama. Hope you all like it! (Link to the flickr album is here.)

We are looking forward to you joining our course in uniting imperial remnants. In time you will see that our ambitions are the same. Your service for Commenor has been noticed and we will grant you the rank of Commander in the service of the Imperial Triumvirate. Do you accept? Cpt. Bannon: Your highness, highnesses, It would be an honor to serve, restoring the glory of the empire. Prince Serion: Good. Hopefully our guests will see the benefit in a strong alliance between the Chiss and us. /// Let me know what you think! ;)
  17. Nuts to the Falcon. The beautiful and graceful Lambda Shuttle has always been my favourite of all the Star Wars ships, and I'm delighted to present my LEGO minifigure-scaled version of this wonder. Didn't you already make one of these, Ru? Yes I did, and well-remembered! It was ten years ago, and a large part of the reason I joined EB in the first place. You can see it here. I revised it a coupe of years later but never publicised the update; you can see it here here (link to flickr folder). I had always intended to go back and tweak the original; however this is a totally new MOC. I started working on it back in 2016, but then we moved house and the LEGO went into storage for a couple of years. front The overall scale of this version is similar to my earlier version, and like the former is based around using the 6x3 vertical windscreen also found in 2015's System-scaled Shuttle Tydirium. The other major factor is the height of the rounded sides of the body: I've used the 4-wide cylinders to give what I think is the best approximation to the real thing. These are attached via a fairly complicated variety of SNOT techniques to a ten plate-high body. Not all the parts are (yet) available in white (the macaroni tiles now are, but not the 4x4 round plates with 2x2 hole), hence the splashes of grey at the sides (or trans-clear in one spot). Starboard The wings are a composite of Technic liftarms and plates. I chose this to keep the weight of the wings down; even built like this I had to work quite hard to prevent the wings flopping down too easily. Some more views: Rear High I've tried quite hard to make this accurate to the movies. There are actually two distinct versions in the movie canon - the sleek ILM model used in the space scenes, and the shorter droopier-nosed version which featured in the Home One hangar scene. The cause of this discrepancy is apparently due to the set designers at Elstree studios in the UK having access only to a few photos of the lambda, but not the ILM model itself thousands of miles away in California. If you are interested, and for a nostalgic reminder of what the Internet looked like in the early naughties, check out Lambda-class Shuttles: the Dimorphism Blooper. I've modelled this one on the ILM studio model. Mostly, I think it is accurate, but I have had to make a few compromises. The cockpit taper - which is only about a stud-width at this scale - is impossible to render without resorting to a solid-black windscreen, and instead is implied by the exaggerated taper of the cockpit sides. The cockpit is a little deeper than the original - required to allow minifigure seating at this scale; the original Kenner toys model did something similar. High close/detail I've take a bit of a guess at the sloping vent-thing under the vertical fin; it is difficult to tell from reference pictures what this is supposed to be. Pressing the silver grille-tile just in front of this operates a latch to allow the body to open. In some places aesthetics wins over accuracy. The bulges on the side of the fuselage should rise to about half-way up the fuselage sides, and should extend back about half-way along the body, but I was so happy with the effect of the mudguard pieces here that I've left them as they are. Detail Front The seven-wide cockpit does not allow a complete set of grille tiles at the front. I may have to resort to a decal on the central tile. The technic skis at the sides would perhaps work better with the pointy-ends at the front but there was no way to attach them that way round (and they could do with being two studs shorter!). There are few canon reference images of the rear. Rather than the usual blanket trans-blue tiles, I have instead tried to show what the engines might look like under the exhaust glow - inspired by this superb render by Thad Clevenger. The vents end up looking a little square; it might be possible to improve this with decals. Rear detail The extremes of the rounded rear end look a bit square, but this is the best solution at this scale, at least until LEGO produces this piece in 2x2. Here's a view from beneath. You can see the taper of cockpit sides, and how the technic skis are a little easy to knock out of position . underside One of the major challenges I faced was attaching the rounded sides of the body SNOT to the studs-up frame. Mostly this is achieved with SNOT brackets, but there was no room for this on the forward sections, which are actually attached via an internal clip. Inside here are two very hard shock absorbers which are intended to encourage the wings to sit in either 'up' or 'down' positions; see here. The smooth sections in the middle are the landing gear doors. An essential feature of any Lambda is that it must be able to fold its wings in order to land. With this, the wing-mounted guns need to fold outwards. I've also included a chin-ramp, though it is hinged a little further back into the body of the ship than on the real thing. Landed front low As you can hopefully see, there is also landing gear, with folding flaps to cover the recesses. It is retractable, as shown below: Landing gear detail The shock-absorber parts act as a kind of suspension when the ship is landed, and provide a spring action when folding to keep the retracted gear in place. It works surprisingly well. Towards the front of the above picture, you can see the cockpit floor is mounted at a half-stud offset, which allows two figures to be seated side-by-side. Having experimented with several ways to allow the cockpit to open, I found that having the nose section slide off provided the best compromise between accessibility and strength. Cockpit interior detail As you can see, the white 4L bars that frame the windscreen are held on by droid arms, and the sloping cockpit sides held in place at the front by 1L bars with claws. It's a bit fiddly to put together. The 1x4 trans tile at the rear unfortunately exposes the asymmetry inherent in any odd stud-width construction; if it were available in trans-black the stud might be better hidden! Access to the inside is easy: the whole top slides off. The red Technic liftarm at the front is a latch to keep the roof in place; it is released by pressing down the metallic silver grille tile. I've also removed a side wall for the photo. Interior I had in mind that this is the shuttle Darth Vader uses to transport Luke from Endor to the Death Star II. It is kitted out for high-ranking officers, with an Imperial Coffee Machine and an Imperial Waffle maker. For a size comparison, here's my Lambda next to the latest official playset version. Comparison to system set I really liked that set, despite is obvious compromises of proportion (and I infinitely prefer it to the hideous UCS set). I like to think that mine is on the same approximate scale to this but more proportionally accurate. The Lambda is the end result of a long process of trial and error, and I'm pleased with the result. I hope you like it too! For more pictures see my Flickr album. C&C welcome! Rufus

    [MOC] TX-225 GAVw "Occupier"

I'm sure everyone remembers the Imperial tank which had some screentime during the ambush on Jedha in Rogue One. The TX-225 GAVw (Groud Assault Vehicle, wheeled) "Occupier" is a tracked vehicle produced by Rothana Heavy Engineering, used by Imperial forces as a patrol and transport vehicle. It has a crew of three (Commander, driver and gunner/technician) and armed with six Dymek MK 2e/w laser cannons, two pairs in the rotating turrets on the sides and one pair fixed in the front. I originally wanted to slightly modify the official Lego set but when I saw a close-up of the tracks during the movie I was really excited as a tracked SW vehicle combines both my interests, Star Wars and WWII-era armored fighting vehicles. With the availability of some detailed images and a cutaway (really useful!) from the new Rogue One visual dictionary I then decided for a complete rebuild instead - with a three man crew and all details included such as an accurate interior and opening hatches. The actual tank used in the movie was based on an Alvis Stormer flatbed, of which the only major modification was the addition of side panels covering the tracks. Photos of this AFV were also really useful as an addition to the reference material.

[N10 - Foundry - TCR] The Can Can

*Your entry has earned 22XP* Mission Log from Agent Amus: Ever since battle of Endor the imperial presence on colony worlds such as Foundry has been sloppy at best. Even though the Republic has declared Foundry a member of the state, they have shown little interest in anything other than the aristocratic and political districts of the planet. In their ignorance they have ignored the real power of Foundry. The industrial underworld. Mission log - continued: I’ve arranged a meeting at the cantina known among the locals as the Can Can. Clever nickname for a place that is supposed to look like it is run by droids. Mission log - continued: My intel suggests another individual is running the place. Running most of the underworld on Foundry actually. Inside the Can Can... When the music is playing... The bar has anything from blue milk to Merenzane Gold... Wealthy guests drinking Merenzane Gold... Sore looser... The street outside... Someone trying to remain anonymous... Staying warm in the Underworld... Phew. I finally got to post this one - I wish I could have paid more attention to the wall-work and stuff like that, but the build just took way too much time - and I wanted to move on. The diagonal walls was a real challenge - but cramping loads of details in this one was really fun... Let me know what you think! Below is a little peak behind the scenes, and close-ups...

    [S15 - Molavar - TCR] IDS Incarcerator

*Your entry has earned 9XP* Mission Log from Cpt. Bannon: After retaking our base on Dennaskar, high command has tasked us with rounding up additional rebels and insurgents from surrounding systems and escort them to the top secret IDS Incarcerator orbiting the backwater planet Molavar. These prisoners are supposedly an important part of Operation Stronghold. The Incarcerator was the last of its kind of Imperial Lictor-class dungeon ships. After the loss at the battle of Endor, warden commander Col Gran hid the IDS Incarcerator in the Outer Rim. Commander Col was eventually contacted by Admiral Rovv and convinced to join the Commenor Remnant cause and remain a secret known only to Rovv and a few high standing members of the remnant. The IDS Incarcerator was a highly modified Lictor-class ship, designed as an inescapable supermax prison. All prison cells onboard the ship has two entrances. One leading into the ship, and the other towards the empty vacuum of space, with only a ray shield keeping the prisoners from being sucked into oblivion. A little peek behind the scenes... Let me know what you think. :) Cheers

    [MOC] Imperial VT-ST Walker

"Sir, we don't have the firepower." "Use the Scout Walkers!" -Imperial comm intercept The Variable Terrain Scout Transport is the first walker in the Variable Terrain family. Originally, the head of the walker was meant to be placed on an Imperial armored vehicle (currently a still on-going project) as a turret; however, the turret was deemed unsuitable with the vehicles designed (though it could still be used as a turret), so it was decided to use it in a pint-sized scout walker. With this in mind, inspiration was taken from the 2016 AT-ST in regards to the legs. The overall design is similar, albeit shrunk to about half the size in most of its proportions. I'm satisfied overall with the design, though as a cockpit for a walker, I find the controls a bit lacking (as I'd prefer a bit more); I also wanted the twin cannons in front to be able to articulate up and down like the AT-ST, but I thought it was low enough to not matter much (as well as having the side armament compensate a bit for this)- due to its connection method, the twin cannons can be modified with bars and clips to articulate, similar to the ones on the VT-IT. Th VT-ST is armed with twin heavy blaster cannons, as well as a missile launcher on each side, all in a fixed forward position. It is also equipped with a grenade launcher on either side that can articulate in multiple directions, as well as a short range comm antenna. SW Imperial Turret #3 by Jonathan Wallace, on Flickr The VT-ST is the mainstay of the Variable Terrain line, and they make up the bulk of the various VT models assigned to Imperial units in the field. Although Brickthana Engineering hoped its VT line could be a competitive alternative to All Terrain family, various issues from production problems to under-performance (among others) hampered its chances, and Brickthana eventually accepted its current place, and began focusing on smaller and more well-defined and in-depth projects. [MOC] Imperial VT-IT Walker

"We got walkers!" "Don't worry, they're just eye-tees" - Rebel radio chatter This simple MOC is part of my VT family of walkers, being a sort of offshoot of my original VT-PT prototype, and is based off of the walker in the Imperial Trooper Battlepack (in a kind of roundabout way). Envisioned as a more armed and protected reconnaissance walker by Brickthana Engineering, the Variable Terrain Infantry Transport featured similar construction to both its bigger brother the VT-PT, as well as turrets used by both Imperial and Rebel forces. Unfortunately for Imperial forces, combat performance for the VT-IT fell below expectations and they were often stripped for parts for both VT-RT and VT-PT walkers by the units they were assigned to. Brickthana desperately tried to prop up the walker's abilities, but they finally yielded to the operators' preference for previous reconnaissance walkers and shut down production. After a time, and still having many of the walkers still in warehouses, Brickthana began work on a successor to the VT-IT; this second attempt has four legs, and is planned to have room for at least two or three troops onboard. Retaining the same weapon loadout as the original (or an equivalent one), this version is thought to be a direct response to both the lacking performance of the first one, as well as the Rebel's Scorpius Mk I. The VT-IT is armed with a two twin missile launchers, as well as a chin-mounted twin light blaster cannon; it's also equipped with a powerful, and detachable, communications array. [MOC] Imperial VT-PT Walker

"Although versatile, Imperial Scout walkers are not all-powerful. We need dedicated Patrol walkers, and soon." -Commander Selm The second walker in the Variable Terrain family, the Variable Terrain Patrol Transport was the result of designers blending the plans for the Scout Transport and Recon Transport together into one composite idea. The various STs were implemented in a variety of roles that they were not necessarily suited for, leading to mission proficiency dropping. Although some tasks could be taken over by the complementary RTs, there still exists a gap between the two where a new walker would hep the mission profile. Thus the VT-PT was born. Designed to work well in both urban and open environments, it features increased armor and a more robust armament than its counterparts, in addition to a fairly quick speed thanks to its reinforced legs and servo-motors. The main armament is flexible Heavy Blaster Cannon with a wide arc of fire, with the secondary armament being the twin missile launchers on either side. In addition, the VT-PT also has an advanced forward sensor and a redundant communications array for keeping in touch with command and other patrolling forces. [M10 - Kuat - TCR] The Commenor Treaty

*Your entry has earned 7XP* Mission Log from Senator Belrus: In light of recent epidemic breakouts on Kuat, The Imperial Remnant high command wants to cease this opportunity to establish a presence on the planet. Due to new republic allegiance, the remnant has dispatched a stormtrooper platoon to an abandoned imperial facility in the polar region of the northern hemisphere. I have arranged to meet the regional archduke at the facility under diplomatic immunity. The Archduke: Good morning senator. We’ve considered your proposal. The epidemic breakout is currently contained to slums and lower levels of dense urban areas in our equatorial regions. It seems like the epidemic doesn’t take to the cold - why I imagine you chose this location for our meeting… Senator Belrus: *pokerface* The Archduke: Since the republic’s health organization has been unable to show any progress in fighting these outbreaks, the Kuati aristocrats have decided to declare a state of neutrality for Kuat. We’ve signed the Commenor Treaty allowing your presence on the planet and ring. We welcome your assistance as long as you comply with the Galactic Concordance. Senator Belrus: The terms are acceptable. We will sign the Commenor Treaty. The Archduke: And one more thing Senator. No bucketheads! Senator Belrus: *nods* Some behind the scenes shots: Let me know what you think! CC are more than welcome... ;)
