  1. Well, since there is no "real" castle (spare me the discussion about Nexo please) in the next months, castle-loving AFOLS will increasingly have to resort to other themes for their historic needs. Since there is a thread for the impact of CMF on historic, I figured it might make sense to have a wider thread for parts from all the other themes. Up to now, it has been common use to post this in the respective threads, now I suggest to collect that here, too. CMF can remain in the thread already existing. So let us see how this works out: Let me begin... New tall skeleton in Minecraft There is a new, quite tall black skeleton in the upcoming minecraft sets. A worthy addition to the abundance of skeletons already available. It is particularly the legs which are longer. New shield in Elves New shields can make new characters, regiments or even factions. This one is beige and gold with a red gem on it. New shield in DC licenced Wonderwoman has a new shield as well, it looks somewhat white and metallic.

    MOC Waldenburg Castle

To build a medieval castle from my home districts in Switzerland has been on my mind for a long time. Last year, I initiated some searching. This resulted in discovering Ruin Waldenburg Castle which is situated approx. 30 km southeast of Basel. Based on excellent pictures and references provided by the archaeologist of Baselland, I decided to build a Lego model of this castle as it may have looked like in the 16th/17th century. Waldenburg Castle has a long history which goes back to the 13th century. During the uprisings in January 1798, the castle was put on fire by leaders of the Baselbiet Freedom Movement. Today, only ruins remain. And now – after just over 300 (!) working hours – this Lego model is finally ready! A long journey from idea to reality has come to an end. The virtual work with format and design in Studio 2.0 has taken most time, almost 200 hours. Inventory and procurement of all Lego parts – with orders placed at 32 BrickLink stores in Sweden and other Europe – were also very time consuming. To build the model itself took me approx. 70 hours. This has indeed been an exciting and rather challenging project. I am very satisfied with the result. The model is 85 cm long, 40 cm wide, with a maximum height of 47 cm above the baseplates. It is built in three levels and consists of approx. 5 300 pieces. Lego LED 9V accounts for the interior lighting. I would like to thank the Office of Archaeology of Baselland for their excellent support, without which this project would not have been possible at all. Attached are pictures from “my” Waldenburg Castle and its placement in my own Lego world.
  3. Hello to the forum, below a small (digital) project I designed in November 2020: Princess June's Medieval House. Similar to the carriage and the siege tower, I designed this MOC in the context of my Lego Ideas project Princess June's Castle. I also create some building instructions, you can download them (PDF File, 87 pages, for free, no registration) under the below URL: http://afol.lu/afol52/filebase/index.php?file/60-princess-june-s-medieval-house/ Princess June's Medieval House by legolux1973, on Flickr Princess June's Medieval House by legolux1973, on Flickr Princess June's Medieval House by legolux1973, on Flickr If you like the MOC and/or the Instructions I would be really happy if you would vote for my LEGO Ideas Project Queen Elizabeth II at the LEGO Ideas Website: https://bit.ly/legoqueenelizabeth I would really appreciate. Happy Building, stay safe and keep healthy. :-) #legolux1973 #junescastle

    [CaTC] Frontier Adventure

Good afternoon. Here is my entry for the Create a Theme Contest, for both the set and minifig lineup categories. Following the example of past historic LEGO themes like Pirates and Wild West, I have decided to create... Frontier Adventure Category I: Theme Concept Based off the westward expansion seen in the Ohio River Valley and Upper Canada, the theme sees various settlers exploring the open frontiers around the Clay River Valley: trapping, trading, hunting, and scratching out a homestead. The settlers trade with the local tribe and their leader Chief Redjacket. Redjacket's tribe in turn keeps peace with the settlers and their leader Governor McCaine. However, the fierce River Rats led by Captain LaCrosse cause mischief along the river valley: robbing flatboats, destroying homesteads, and stealing whatever isn't nailed down. It is up to Governor McCaine and the militia commanded by Colonel Blaire to round up the River Rats and lock them away. Birch Hollow Campout (78 pieces, $9.99) While trekking through the woods, every hunter needs to stop awhile to enjoy a decent meal and a warm fire. And it's also nice to have a friendly tribesman to share it with. This is an excellent starter set for anyone wanting to build up their frontier community. Includes a campfire with turkey, a birch tree, flowers, owl and snake, and two minifigures: a native tribesman and long-hunter. Flatboat Landing (940 pieces, $99.99) One of the River Rats is lying in wait of a flatboat loaded with silver, while the local long-hunter has alerted the Governor at the Flatboat Landing cabin. While the boatmen work to unload the cargo to store in the cabin's cellar, the River Rat knows another way inside. This set features an open-backed cabin and flatboat with cargo hoist, flowers and full birch tree, and six minifigures: Governor McCaine, a long-hunter, a settler woman, two boatmen, and a river rat. The flatboat's cargo hoist can rotate 360º (although Stud.io has its limitations when it comes to string attachment). The flatboat also features a front grasshopper gun and long oar at back for steering. The interior of the log cabin has a table, bookshelf, and fireplace, along with a cooking-pot and secret hatchway to the cellar. The cellar is filled with all kinds of goods: bottles of sarsaparilla, a box of hardtack, a barrel of gunpowder, a musket, and a chest for other oddities, plus a ladder to the main cabin. On the cliffside of the bluff, there is a tiny entry-way for the River Rats to sneak through and take away whatever goods they want. Naturally, this theme would include further sets, like a militia outpost, Chief Redjacket's village, and a River Rat hideout. Category II: Minifigure Lineup Much like Pirates, Wild West, or Castle, this theme has a few factions making up its lineup of characters. The River Rats: Fierce robbers and river-pirates who are the scourge of the Clay River Valley. On the left is their leader, Captain LaCrosse, a lifelong criminal making a dishonest living in the forests of the new frontier, and not above evicting widows from their homes or kidnapping children for ransom. The Territorial Militia: Formed by the local settlers, the militia's duty is to keep the frontier safe for everybody, namely by smoking out the River Rats. From left to right, we have a private, a sergeant, and Colonel Blaire. The uniforms are based somewhat off of Canadian militiamen from the War of 1812, using Star Wars torsos. I think they look pretty good. Chief Redjacket's Tribe: This native tribe has lived peacefully in the Clay River Valley for hundreds of years, and offer to help out and trade with the new settlers in the frontier. They dress in a mixture of European and Indigenous clothing, much like the historical tribes living in the Ohio and St. Lawrence valleys during the early 19th Century. From left to right, we have an alert hunter, a young brave-to-be with his trusty hatchet, a tribal woman, and Chief Redjacket himself. Governor and Mrs. McCaine: The McCaines are the leaders of the settlers in the Clay River Valley. While both appreciate the finer things in life, they both care about the people depending on them for guidance, along with keeping peace with Chief Redjacket and trying to find a way to take down the River Rats. The Settlers: The settlers are a brave group of farmers, hunters, craftsmen and their families trying to make a living out on the frontier. They try to keep friendly with Chief Redjacket's tribe, and try to band together against the vile River Rats. From left to right, we have a farmer, young fisher-boy, long hunter with his trusty rifle, a pioneer girl collecting wildflowers, and housewife out drawing water from the well. Thank you for stopping by, and best of luck to everybody else in the Create a Theme Contest!
  5. Hello, actually I'm designing some castle stuff for my LEGO Ideas project Princess June's Castle. Therefore I created a small (actual only digital) MOC, a small medieval carriage and I wanted to share the building instructions for this MOC with you. Princess June's Carriage by legolux1973 , on Flickr If you like the carriage, you can download the instructions (a PDF file, of course no fees and no registration or similar) on the Homepage of my local AFOL Communita afol.lu under below URL: https://bit.ly/junescarriage Inspiration for this MOC have been the 2 beautiful MOCS Queen's carriage and Royal Carriage from the users @aemil and @Sandy . I'm actually collecting parts to build the MOC in real, I guess the first change will however be to add a second horse. Regards, legolux1973
  6. Hi all! I'd like to share my atempt of making an exact as possible rebuild of the historic castle of the city of Thun in Switzerland, made with LDD and stud.io. I tried to implent as much details as possible(i.e woodwork in the roof and ceilings, or the chimneys that are connected from the rooms up to the roof). My mainfocus was set on the castle, the surroundings I made just because it looked a little naked in the fotos, and the big trees are actually not mine, but some modified versions of other stud.io users, will replace them later on. I also want to keep building the old city wall, including towers and gates, and maybe the city church, so it's still a work in progress. I'm no pro at MOC-ing, it's actually one of my first buildings, and it was born because of a lot of sparetime in theese weird times. So let me know what you think, what you like and what I could or should improve. Thanks for reading. A big part of the beauty of this castle is its surroundings, so I photoshopped/gimped it into my brothers picture, which got the 3rd place in "Wiki loves monuments 2018 Switzerland", below is the original photo for comparison: When the pandemie is over, feel free to visit this beautiful place, which is considered by many one of the most beautiful on earth... Some more pictures: various outside views: (trees all on stud.io: sakura by timmeyh / Big Tree by bb1061366 / tree by SMS) exploded view: Some pictures of the interior, here the attic: circular stairs in the tower, and chimney shouldn't miss out: Knight's hall:

  9. Hello my Friends! This Renaissance Inspired Build was made by my Wife and I as we are currently planning out our Lego City and try on doing so by integrating classical European Architecture in as much of the City as we can. These Kinds of buildings just fascinate us when visiting Italy and other Parts of Southern + Western Europe as they are seemlessly used in modern Cities preserving a lot of history and Culture. We would be happy to get some Feedback which we always take serious and consider when making improvements :) Here is the Link to the Submission
  10. Hey guys BrickHammer here, after my Forestmen MOC "Forestmen Outpost" was received with much kindness, I decided to also share my "Wolfpack Castle" with you guys. I was always a bit sad that the Wolfpack never had a proper castle set so I decided to design and build my own "Wolfpack Caslte" and submit it to LEGO Ideas. he "Wolfpack Castle" is located on a small coastal island, surrounded by the sea and is only connected to the main land by a small stone bridge. The island is almost fully covered by barren rock and has almost no vegetation. On top of the rocks there is the main castle, which consists of three sections: the lower gate, which is the castle's first line of defence and secures the pathway that leads up to the upper castle section the main gate, which secures the upper courtyard and displays the Wolfpack's iconic coat of arms the castle's keep, which contains the armoury and serves as the final line of defence in case of an attack. Below the main castle, there is a big cave which opens up to the sea and contains a small pier. The cave and the pier are connected to the castle's keep by a ladder and a small hatch which leads to the upper courtyard. This way, small boats can be used to supply the castle with food during a siege or as a way to escape in the unlikely scenario that the keep is taken by enemy forces. I would really appreciate your feedback (and your support)! If you have any question about the MOC, the design choices or the building process, feel free to ask! https://ideas.lego.com/projects/f23da1e5-312c-4f19-ab89-d0f253d2e6bf

    [MOC] HMS Surprise

Just browsed through the forum and could not find this anywhere. Think I just forgot to share it. Mentioned her some time ago in the General MOC-Discussion, WIP-Help, and Teaser Thread. If she is hiding somewhere in the forum, I do hope someone has the chops to remove this topic. Scale 1:40’ish L: 150 cm B: 26 cm H: 114 Bricks approx. 19300. Looking back at my earlier designs I found that my version of the HMS Surprise, just like the HMS Ontario, was somewhat wanting. This is a model of the HMS Surprise launched as the corvette Unité in 1794. In 1796, The Royal Navy conquered, refitted and renamed her. She later on chased pirates in the Caribbean for several years. The ship plays a central role in the Aubery-Maturin stories. This includes the movie from 2003 Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World. The HMS Rose, which was later, renamed HMS Surprise, plays the “role” as HMS Surprise. Neat, but somewhat confusing. Being notoriously bad at taking photos of my creations there is some Renders below, these are also in the General MOC-Discussion, WIP-Help, and Teaser Thread. …but you need to look at the LDD file to get a view of the details of the creation. Find it at MOCPAGES http://www.moc-pages.com/moc.php/452403 She has been on display at LW Copenhagen 2019. A Swedish AFOL has taken some fine Pictures from the event on this link. Hope it is ok that I link to this https://www.flickr.com/photos/86394332@N03/47062421172/in/album-72157705321073761/ There are also some more photos including WIP at my Flickr page. https://www.flickr.com/photos/131641614@N06/with/46031790204/

  13. Dear fellow LEGO enthusiasts, I am in dire need of some help from you folks who are definitely more knowledgeable than I. In this case, I am needing help with the replication of the RMS Titanic's Reciprocating Engines and Turbine. I am in the midst at the moment of working on the project below, though I have not updated it in a great while due to university work. See this link here for the project thread. But this is a minifig scale project, with every door, every window accounted for. This means that in regards to the engines, I am also seeking to make them at least somewhat true to scale and able to work as intended. Obviously this is a big job of some top notch Edwardian-era engineering, but I am hoping that there might be some out there not as technically-challenged (pun totally intended) as I am, willing to help me get this part of the project off the ground. Some of the features I I am looking for include a fully air-powered system, where the air supply would come from tanks hidden in the mock-boilers, that are then funneled at somewhat high pressure to the Triple Recip. Engines, which means that the pressure would go down as it goes through each cylinder (HP, IP, then two LPs). The leftover air at a much lower pressure then goes to a junction that can either go to the Parson's Turbine at what was historically 4 psi, or can go directly to the condensers. With the latter I intend just to make the outside of it and hide inside some custom compressors like this. That would then return to the original air supply. With this I am hoping that I will have a self-supplying system with ideally no more than 5% leakage, or enough compressors that leaks are compensated for. WIth the Parson's Turbine, that can be an accurate shell with whatever is needed inside to include a working turbine, and probably with an gearbox and ascending set of gear ratios to give it the necessary torque. These engines and turbine are meant to actually turn the propellers, perhaps even in water! Some other features would include a replica of the Brown-type reversing engine on the side of each of the Recip engines, making it so that the Stevenson-type eccentrics can change the direction of rotation. Considering the scale, the reversing engine doesn't technically have to be much more than a slightly-hidden piston that does the required job, but any more realism doesn't hurt. If something like this is possible, please let me know. I am really wanting to continue with this project, and this is a central part of it. But without the pieces in front of me instead of on a computer screen, what little I know of engineering definitely doesn't help without that tactile interaction. Thanks for your time, and I look forward to your replies! If it is possible, then I can follow up with the intended dimensions. Here are some references for any that wants some: View of turbine and condensers through wall from main engines rotor shaft model of port-side recip. engine overall basic view path of the steam of original, pressurized air for mine
  14. Hi everyone, This is the first time I'm sharing a historic themed moc. I present you a very small part of Castle Igniscia "The castle where the sun rises". This is the throne room where many ceremonies are held. My friend made a Dungeons and Dragons campaign which this castle is part of. I asked him how he imagined the throne room and so I took some inspiration and started building. I think it came out realy well and I love the two extra cinematic photos above . And as an extra I also made minifig versions of our D&D party, the queen and the so called 'Hero' of Falenzia. (My character is the third from the left, with the potion bottle ) If you want to see the photos in more detail you can find my Flickr album here. I hope you all like it.
  15. So this question may seem a little out there, but bear with me (and if this fits in better on the Sci-Fi Forum, than by all means move it over). I recently published a review of Witch's Windship here a few days ago given the season, and in it I mentioned how I ended up picking up most of that particular wave. Whether that was folly or not remains to be seen, as I've only built two out of four of the mid-sized sets. But I do find parts of this subtheme appealing, especially when we get to the different flying machines. Given the actual state of the official sets, I'm already in the process of modding them to have a more consistent color scheme, but want to go further. Given how this subtheme already dabbled in more "advanced" technology for LEGO Castle compared to other subthemes, I was considering incorporating some more "machinery" that would be high-tech...for the Middle Ages as I modify the existing line. For instance, I'm thinking of reverse-engineering a device similar to the one from the Scary Laboratory in the Studios line, where you have a door and a turntable you can spin to "transform" a minifigure. But given how I'm working in a more medieval setting, I'm not sure a direct transfer would mesh as well. So my question is whether anyone may have any thoughts on what kind of parts would make a contraption like the one I described appear more "medieval," instead of Victorian. More clockwork mechanisms? Gears? Wagon Wheels? Or is this a silly question, and should I just try a direct transfer? Given the era, I'm inclined to stay away from any designs that resemble the harnessing of electricity, and am trying to consider what other designs I could implement to convey a sense of power being harnessed for this infernal machine.

    [MOC] Flintlock Pistol

Hello, I built a flintlock pistol with shooting funktion. The design resembles the pistols which were used about 1800. Because they were often carried during travels, which were very dangerous, they are called travel pistols. Please watch the video, here.
  17. Hello everyone. I am new in MOC-cing. I will use this thread to display my build which will be the main castle and habitat build. I will be integrating the habitat into the medieval castle and its surrounding in the future. CASTLE BUILD Actually this castle is my first MOC to build (just started on May 2020). So you might see a lot of simple technique used on it. I am still yet to learn or master the advanced build such as SNOT or MILS. I built it on 32 x 32 baseplate. My vision is to expand it into at least 4 times 32 x 32 baseplates. The castle will have blacksmith & armorers, throne room, dining room, barracks, King's chamber, storehouse, etc. Initial build on 1 unit of 32 x 32 baseplate. HABITAT MODULES Audience With The King (Will be incorporated into the Throne Room) The king's throne, golden candle holder and stained glasses concept are from the medieval tutorial furniture by little john Medieval Store All furniture concept in this habitat are from the medieval tutorial furniture by little john Armoury (Added on 30th May 2020) Shield stand and the small weapon rack ideas are from the Medieval furniture tutorial. Armor stand is generic build, crossbow stand is my own creation. Sword stand is pretty easy to build. I will post more photos when I have updates for the Castle MOC or build more habitat modules. I also have a modern LEGO city build. You can find me on instagram at @raysbrickville NEWS UPDATE 23th May 2020 My Audience With The King Habitat is featured by LEGO Fans Media in Chile. Feel free to read it here (The language is in Spanish though): https://www.bricksinbits.com/vineta-medieval/ It also featured on their instagram: https://www.instagram.com/p/CAfr34cAc4f

    Inspirational Modular and Castle MOCs

Hey guys, I decided to create this topic and the main idea came from this and this post (so special thanks to @danth and @Digger of Bricks!). I would like to highlight three things before I start to post inspirational MOCs: I’ll post three staff picks everyday! Please feel free to post your favorite MOCs! Have fun admiring and taking inspiration from those great MOCs Top three MOC’s IMO in Baroque architecture: 1. This incredible Baroque Church by @Jellyeater! 2. This amazingly detailed MOC by @pj_bosman! 3. This greatly shaped modular by @cimddwc! Here are the three best Baroque MOC’s IMO! What do you think about them? Would you buy modulars like those if TLG made? Here are the Steampunk ones: 1. This incredible layout made together by @castor-troy and @domino39 (they also made one MOD of the PR and the MS and two MOD’s of the CC included in this layout. But they look so different that they are more MOC then MOD). EB topic here and Flickr albums with more photos here, here, here and here. 2. These great Steampunk modulars by @adde51! 3. These very interesting modulars by @Zilmrud who as well made great MOD’s of the PC and the BB! Here are the three most gorgeous Steampunk MOC’s IMO! What do you think of them? Would you buy modulars like those if TLG ever made?

    [MOC] - Persian Ostrich Cart

Who doesn´t love cool Lego animals and creatures? As for me,i´m always on the hunt for molded Lego animals and a while ago i got this cool little ostrich and a minifig of which both seem to come from the same set. While i was playing around with my Lego ostrich on my desk i thought how cool it would be if the large bird pulls a neat little cart for a minifig to sit in and so it came to live: Persian Ostrich Cart hese persian ostrichs are specially bred and are strong enough to pull a covered wooden cart for very long distances, even able run a fair distance when the situation requires it. IMG_20181227_131821 IMG_20181227_131801 IMG_20181227_131751 The cart holds and shelters one minifigure and the rear even has a trunk to store the minifigs belongings. In front of the minifig a crossbow is mounted to fend off attacking individuals on horse or foot. The drapes and the roof protect from the harsh sun and rain. [MOC] Ballroom

Here's a day's build, first complete model in a while from me. The experiment here was using old, yellowed 'white' bricks alongside modern tan ones for a more aged texture. The mirror is a badly-applied sticker on a Friends set found in a charity shop, so I had to build a chunky frame to hide the edges. The baseplate here was an old, broken one too, which prompted me to try to build this glorified shield display stand from parts in my collection that would never otherwise be appreciated. Comments welcomed, enjoy!
  23. Hello everyone! After a constructive stop of a couple of months at the beginning of the year I decided to try my hand at building a medieval mill. I like to think of this mill set in the Middle Ages, inhabited by a simple family that lived in an era where today's technology did not exist yet, without cell phones, computers and the Internet. Only a stone and wood house built with the toil of the hands and a life led to produce flour for bread and to grow vegetables and products of the earth. All surrounded by a luxuriant nature without the traffic and the polluted air of today. A life that is certainly very difficult but much simpler and built on basic concepts like family, land and food. The construction of this moc took a couple of months and made up of about 5,200 pieces and it took two months of construction. The blades of the mill are powered by a Medium Lego motor and can be turned over with a button on the back of the house. Moc presented for the first time at the MEI in Verona 2018 (Italy). View the complete gallery on Flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/sdrnet/albums/72157690184763535 Comments very welcome. Good vision! Sandro

The End of the Hundred Years' War

Preparation for the English and French armies at Castillon is underway. The battle took place on 17 June, 1453 and it marked the end of the period known as the Hundred Years' War. The French were lead by an artillery commander Jean Bureau, and the English by yours truly (John Talbot, 1st Earl of Shrewsbury). The armies are incomplete, but this is but a taste of the MOC that is to come. Note the 15th century style custom helmets from Brick Warriors. My goal is to create a battlefield MOC with most of my attention devoted to historical accuracy. Stay tuned for more uploads as the build progresses.
