  1. In light of the Black Spire's emergence in Nocturnus, and the siege of Abyssian, Vladivus has realised that Shadowmere's armies may not tip the scales enough- outright warfare may decimate armies, but he needed a way to remove the head of the beast, when necessary. Hence the formation of the Shadowmere Assassin and Intelligence Guild, or S.A.I.G. for short. These warriors are highly trained and drawn from a variety of Nocturnian citizens, each with abilities that lend themselves to the task at hand, ranging from Wolfmen, and orcs, to Night Elves. These operatives are heading out for a classified mission in Black Spire territory, whilst a bizarre air-living stingray floats lazily on the air currents. Night Elf, Beastman... ...and orc work together for this mission. C+C welcome. Yet another aspect of Shadowmere's forces. Just a small build this time!
  2. In his chambers in the Nocturnian citadel of Shadowmere, Krell discusses business with the head of his personal bodyguard. The business discussed ranges from patrol routes to resolving confrontations with the general citizens of Shadowmere. Krell's personal bodyguard are Shadows, fearsome warriors from beyond the mortal realm. Footsteps echo down the corridor outside, as a figure wrapped in black cloth strides purposefully towards Krell's chambers. The shade guard posted outside challenges the figure; Shade: "Who goessssss ssthereee?" The figure flicks aside some cloth to reveal a terrifying arachnoid face- Draxx, a member of the Scorpionmen race. Draxx: "I come to give important news to Krell, from Vladivus." The Shade stands aside, and opens the door-grate. As Draxx goes to enter, the Head of Krell's bodyguard exits, and though he has no face, his gaze fixes Draxx, who feels his soul bared to this etherbeast. Draxx enters the chambers. Krell looks up impatiently at the interuption. Krell: "Well, what is it?" Draxx: "I have travelled swiftly from Southern Nocturnus with great news- Vladivus has captured Sir Natas and is bringing him here for you to interrogate." Krell: "Perhaps we shall get the information that will lead us to Zurias. At least Vladivus will get some closure." Draxx leaves, and Krell calls in a Shade Guard. Krell: "Awaken the Servants of Torture. We have work to begin." Shade: "Assssss you wisssshhhhh my lord." C+C welcome. A build inside Shadowmere! It shows the build up to the torture of Sir Natas! Also a chance to show off some new fig combinations! In hindsight, I wish I hadn't picked black for Shadowmere, I hate photographing it!
  3. Lord Vladivus

    Krell Interrogates Sir Natas.

When Lord Vladivus returned to Shadowmere, he handed Sir Natas over to Krell, his Necromancer. In the dungeons of Shadwomere, screams echo throughout the halls. These dungeons are a horrifying place, and one that few return from- those that do are usually the dungeon keepers, but even they do not always return. In one of the cells, Krell and one of his Servants of Torture see to Sir Natas. Krell: "Welcome Sir Natas. I assume you are aware of we are about to do- not that you have any choice mind. You're not in Avalonia or Kaliphlin, here in Nocturnus, we are cruel rather than kind!" He motioned to the Servant of Torture, who stepped forward, bearing vicious looking tools. Sir Natas: "No. You cannot. This is heresy. Ravaage is the true lea..." His voice was cut off by a sharp blow to the face. Krell:"Ravaage is dead, his body merely isn't aware of it yet. Now, about Zurias..." Krell's eyes glowed a fierce red, and with the Servant of Torture, set to work. Several hours later, Krell emerged, now armed with a host of information. C+C welcome, yet another freebuild! What has Krell discovered? I apologise for the lack of focus on the second picture, the camera refused to focus on the faces.
  4. Hello all, this is my latest freebuild: Graybridge bottleneck. After building Setting an ambush... and the trap is sprung! I wanted to build some medieval finished things and I thought that it would be nice to see as it was or it will be, who knows, the same location. The Graybridge bottleneck, an obligatory passage on the main street which goes through Erilea, is fortified and strictly controlled by a permanent garrison, whose task is to monitor the comings and goings on th street below. This fortification is a key point for anyone trying to conquer Erilea. C&C are always welcome and I hope you Enjoy!
  5. I'd been thinking about building a tower using half stud offsets to make it smaller as it gets taller, but hadn't gotten around to actually doing anything until I saw Gideon's sweet lighthouse. That inspired this tower. There is a full interior as always. Glorfindel and Infernum had finally caught up with those responsible for the recent raids on Mitgardian homes and watchtowers. They waded through the swamp surrounding the tower, to try and reach the two Mitgardian prisoners, unnoticed. Meanwhile the two leaders of the raiding party were arguing at the top of the tower. The Hand of Corruption captain wanted to follow their orders and take the Mitgardian soldiers they had captured back to Nocturnus to work as slaves, but the Orc chieftain had other plans for the two. In the heat of the argument, the orc chieftain and one of his archers killed the captain and another Hand of Corruption warrior. By this time, Glorfindel and Infernum had made it to the prisoners. They armed the two with their daggers. Then Glorfindel picked the lock on the door and they charged in. The raiders were unprepared for an attack and were quickly killed. Glorfindel and Infernum restored the Mitgardian flag to its rightful place and discussed how to defend the Nocturnus border against more raiding parties such as this. A few more pictures of the build: More pictures can be seen here: link I hope you guys enjoyed this collaborative storyline. And a big thanks to Infernum for efforts in the collab
  6. Krell visits the Grand Griffon tavern and Inn: And as a bonus: I hope this is ok! I got quite taken with the idea of the tavern, but only just got around to photographing it.
  7. Infernum

    The Vicious Vipren

The Vicious Vipren is a large dragon found throughout northern Mitgardia. It lives high in the mountains, ambushing its prey on small paths. These dragons are often the target of mountain orc raiding parties from Nocturnus. The mountain orcs are able to capture and train the dragons, then bring them back to their homes in Nocturnus. The dragon and its orc master. No figs. Just the Vipren. Hope you like this build! More pics here (when public: http://upload.bricks...ry.cgi?f=545056 ) Thanks for looking!
  8. My dearest Lady Vansier, Further to your request about Feathered Dragons, I have compiled a brief report for you. I trust you have found it attached to this damned undead Carrier pigeon. Feathered Dragons come in all shapes, sizes, and indeed degree of feathering. It is a point of contention amongst the Learned Zoology Professors at Petrea University as to whether each is a distinct species, or merely an individual of a larger species. It is, point of fact, rare to find a specimen, that is willing to be studied. Shorter of temper than a Mitgardian Bearded Lady with untamable armpit hair, the feathered dragons are known to attack anything within sight. One such dragon, more specifically, a member of the Rakath Feathered Dragon sub-species is owned by the esteemed Lord Vladivus of Nocturnus, and I had the pleasure of studying it first hand, whilst a painter produced it's likeness, which I believe should be attached to this carrier pigeon as well. Note that most of the body is covered in green scales, whilst it is the black wings that are feathered. This one was tamed by Vladivus himself, and it's rumoured that he wrestled it one on one into submission. Fearsome chap this Vladivus. Anyway, this specimen does not breathe fire, but excretes venom through it's teeth, thereby giving it's bite a rather lethal efffect. Yours, as ever, A half-crazed Special Envoy of the Head Professor of Zoology at the University of Petrea to Nocturnus, Dizak Khan. P.s. The indomitable Lord Vladivus insisted we send you a portrait of himself stood by the dragon, because, well, he's heard of your beauty. Here he is, in all his armoured half-undeadness. My sincerest apologies. So, my entry for the "Mount Up!" Challenge, my first attempt at a brick built creature. It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be- learnt a few things. C+C welcome!
  9. Old Elza the Sand Witch was cursed from a young age with powers ...or something, at least that's what I heard. Maybe she is just an old woman who lives alone on the outskirts of Eastgate. At least she doesn't have any cats. Requesting University of Petraea's Doctorate of Historica Program in the following Categories: Architecture: Roofing (roof 1) Round Walls and Towers

    Freebuild: Plain raid

Plains ambush by lorddan413, on Flickr Lord Dan and his company of men are traveling through a vast plain, miles and miles of low grass, the only variance is turfs of grass here and there. Several days have passed since they first set out and they are making good progress. Lord Dan: Will! My horse is getting restless, I'm going to loop back behind the wagon and ride around for a little while. I'll be back there if you need me. General Will: ( to himself: sure, it's the horse that's restless) Ok, but make sure you don't get too far back. This grass all looks the same. A few minutes later... The Sir Robert and General Will are idlely chatting Sir Robert: So what do you think it will be like? General Will: I'm not sure, from the vauge description on the map it seems to be like most of Avalonia, with plenty of forested areas, lushious grasslands, you know, a typical forest getaway. But I did notice a small mention of a few hills, so there could also be some nice rocky areas. More idle converstation, but then General Will notices movement in the grass. General Will: (In a low voice) Don't look now, but I think there's men hidden in the grass. They're dressed in the same green as the grass, I wouldn't have even noticed them if they hadn't moved. Sir Robert casually looks across the plain, as if admiring the endless grasslands. Sir Robert: (whispering) I saw one, over on the left. General Will: (quietly) Theres another behind you.(loudly) Ok, I've had enough of your silly tales. There's no way a vampire is a duke, here in Avalonia. Robert, why don't you go check the reigns on the right horse over there. They look a little tight and we don't want him getting sore. Sir Robert: Sure thing, I've got him( winking at Will) General Will: I' ll check the right one Will climbs down and " checks" on his horse Will: ( softly, so only Robert can hear) 1,2,3 At three they both spin around and attack the two very surprised bandits that were creeping up behind them. At the back of the wagon a third bandit runs out of the grass, tosses a rope onto the deck and climbs on. Bandit: kkiiillllllll ttthheeemmmm!!! Archer: What the..?! The archer pulls out his knife and blocks the sword blow aimed right for him. Behind the wagon Lord Dan sees the commotion and charges forward with his sword out, ready for battle. Plains raid 2 by lorddan413, on Flickr Plains Raid 3 by lorddan413, on Flickr Plains raid 4 by lorddan413, on Flickr Plains raid 5 by lorddan413, on Flickr This isn't really a build, just a quick landscape and a way to show them progressively moving across avalonia. I did, however, enjoy having my soldiers get their first taste of battle.
  11. Loading the wagon by lorddan413, on Flickr Lord Dan and his trusted team of knights load up their wagon in preparation for a long, and potentially dangerous journey across Avalonia. They are headed to Legoawyr, the territory claimed by Lord Dan, which is still unexplored and has no known inhabitants, save for a few tiny communities along its edges. Since venturing into unknown territory is a tedious undertaking, the group must be well supplied, bringing along essentials such a food, weapons, tools to start building a settlement, a small fraction of Lord Dan's gold( you never know when a small bribe might be useful) and other gear. The wagon itself, while not the most elegant wagon ever, is very practical. Build of wood and reinforced with metal, the wagon is a small mobile fortress, and will be the group's base as they travel the countryside. It has a useful boarding ramp which can be raised while moving or during an attack, deck space to carry supplies, mounted crossbows for protection, axes conveniently located on the sides to quickly clear obstructions ( or enemies), spears positioned to block the back ramp or to be rotated facing outward when encamped or when under attack, and an inclosed room for storage or shelter. It incorporates the Avalonian colors of dark green and a tiny bit of sand green. Unfortunately, this large and well armored wagon is very heavy and it requires at least two horses to pull it and frequent stops for the exhausted horses. loading the wagon 2 by lorddan413, on Flickr loading the wagon 4 by lorddan413, on Flickr wagon 1 by lorddan413, on Flickr wagon 2 by lorddan413, on Flickr wagon 3 by lorddan413, on Flickr Additional photos are on my flickr

    Blue Palace

I built this for the "Taste the Rainbow" contest on Classic-Castle, and figured it worked well for a Kaliphlin scene too. The idea of the contest is to build a castle mainly out of a bright color. I was originally going to build a red/dark bley or bley 'brick' castle. But decided that there had been plenty of those done before. So instead I used blue/tan and tried to capture more of a middle eastern feel. It was a bigger challenge than I expected, particularly because I'm not familiar with the pieces I have to use in blue and tan. I'm not that happy with how the castle turned out, but I do really like the landscape. As always there's a full interior. Credit for the cobble stone design goes to Wat_Tambor. I'd like to receive UoP credit for: life in Kaliphlin [Anthropology], and desert [Geology]= 2 credits Lord Nordan (Glorfindel's father) meets with a Kaliphlin noble to discuss a trade agreement... There are a few more pictures here: link C&C welcome

    Unrest in Varlyrio

Citizens supporting the Varlyrian mercenaries fighting with the Black Spire have barricaded a city block in Illyria, the capital of Varlyrio. The Garra (guard of Illyria) have been dispatched to deal with the troublemakers, but it seems to turn into a bloody affair. Something seems wrong with the rebel leader as well...
  14. Nordana castle is located in Avalonia and is the ancient seat of the earls of Norshire, from which Sir Gideon the half-elf has his human blood through his mother (as described in my character intro). This is the eastern tower and great hall of Nordana Castle. The great hall stands on the same place as the ancient wooden hall of the earls of Norshire, who later built the stone castle on the site. Sometimes the castle still is refered to by it's old name 'Nordana Hall'. Other modules of the same castle: South Tower Gatehouse North Tower Great hall. Eastern tower. Great hall, front and statue. Entrance to cellar underneath great hall (inspired by a similar cellar under half the great hall of Conwy castle). The Master-at-Arms yelling at the troops. A servant is going down to the well to fetch more water to the kitchen. Stacking supplies due to the rumors of upcoming conflict within Avalonia. Stained glass window, detail. Together with the north tower. For this build, I'd like to claim the following University of Petraea credits: - General building: Stained glass - Anthropology: Life in Avalonia Fourth and final module for my Swebrick Medieval community build castle, adapted for the Guilds of Historica setting. Edit: Picture of the whole castle finally uploaded. Edit 2: Moved pictures of the whole castle to the top of the post since ZC linked to this topic (thank you!) from the frontpage.

    Arrival at Vanguard

The Northern Gate to Vanguard opens onto the wharf where a number of piers are available for the ferry service and for sale to the public. This section is the first of 3-4 sections I will be doing to complete the Northern Gate of Vanguard. Wolfar waving to his brother on the shore as the Bern children run and play on the wharf. Lucinda tending to her horse. The rowers docking the ferry. Atlas stands by and has come to receive his next order of iron-works from the council. Dock detail The records hut where people list themselves to enter Vanguard. Dock spaces are also bought here. Thanks to soccerkid for the technique. Wall detail Back view with guards. Thanks for viewing!
  16. With the new appointment of Grand Lord Simon to watch over the Islands and Forests of Avalonia, a great celebration has started. Throughout the county of Vanhorn, people are rejoicing and Vanguard is leading the celebration. In Redlon Tavern, the same Tavern owned by Gela Shiloh and renowned for it's secret House Brew, many townspeople are coming in to drink. Outside, the people are running down the street waving the colors of Avalonia. Access window for the chandelier. Inside, an elf had had a but to much to drink and decided it would be a good idea to start dancing on the table. His friends cheer him on and everyone enjoys a good laugh in a time of happiness. Figless exterior. I had a great and long time getting this wall section done. I wanted something that gave an effective wood siding appearance and wanted to transition it to more traditional log walls. In this single picture, there are 14 different pieces that aren't connected in any way. They're just perched in their spot, having to put them back in time and time again was a little annoying. I also wanted to make the build small enough to put out in a week, yet big enough to be a good HSS entry. So, this is my Tavern entry for HSS too. Thanks for viewing!
  17. Lord Vladivus

    GNAR: The Nocturnian Boar

Lord Vladivus and his troops often utilise boats and ships to navigate the Moruth Swamps. One of these is the swamp boat "The Nocturnian Boar", a small, lightly armed vessel crewed by zombies. It is single masted, and can be propelled by oars should the need arise. It is armed with a single ballista for seeing off adventurous raiders. Here, one of Lord Vladivus' trusted Lieutenants, the Necromancer Krell, oversees the deployment of a Shadowmere Guard raiding party from the Nocturnian Boar. As ever, more photos on my Flickr. C+C welcome!
  18. Lord Vladivus is a mighty Warlord, participating in the Revolword War and in the schisms that wrack Nocturnus. He rules Shadowmere, a great citadel on the outskirts of the Moruth Swamps. He is a half-vampire, as his mother was Avalonian, whilst his father a nomadic, ancient Vampire. Upon his birth, Vladivus' mother was forced to flee and died entering Nocturnus. Now Vladivus resides in the realm that took him in, and is staunchly loyal to Nocturnus, but is displeased and peturbed by the current events. Seen here, he is visiting a watchtower in the depths of the swamp. He wears a suit of black and steel armour, crafted by the Dwarf Artisans of Nocturnus, and upon his head rests the Dragon Helm of Dor-Lomin, an ancient vampiric artefact that predates the formation of Historica. He also wields Gurthanol, the Black Sword. His shield is a common one, borne by his troops. More pictures on my Flickr. C+C welcome!
  19. Tie pilot Goatm An 461 reports to Hoth to test fly a new planetary patrol fighter developed by a bored Colonel unlucky enough to be stationed there. The fighter has been loaded with a ridiculous amount of forward facing weapons. The primary purpose of the fighter is to target landing craft upon entering the atmosphere and only rarely take on targets above the stratosphere. Goatm's assessment: its a suicide fighter and he will have no interest in flying it. With the on board systems dedicated almost exclusively to those forward facing weapons, little attention was paid to the maneuverability of the fighter, thus, no defensive capabilities. If it were up to Goatm, this project would be left in the hands of the ground forces, our pilots are crazy enough as it is. I would like this freebuild to be judged during the SoNE IV episode, please.
  20. 21. Nar Eurbrikka; 3 days after the bombing. The rebels didn't realize it, but they'd made a serious mistake. The sewage tunnels they'd used to get below our garrison were unguarded because they'd been unused and largely forgotten for so long. These forgotten tunnels saw few visitors, so a probe droid dispatched the day after the bombing spotted telltale signs of recent movement. Nothing obvious at first, but areas where slime had been inadvertently wiped from the walls as men moved through narrow passages and, most damning, ladder rungs where years of grime had been recently knocked off as boots climbed down from the surface. The probe droid beamed its coordinates to base, and an aerial surveillance droid confirmed the presence of a sewer access hatch, in a courtyard next to a building in one of the vast, sprawling slums surrounding the spaceport. ISB immediately started 24/7 monitoring of the building, using both air and ground assets. After waiting and watching for two days, they called us. Normally, SpecOps wouldn't be needed for a simple assault on a residential building, but the situation on Nar Eurbrikka was complex. There was a growing rebel presence in this part of the city, and the local commander refused to send in troops without heavy armor support. The army, having recently lost two scout walkers nearby, refused to commit forces before the area was "softened-up" by TIE bombers. Naval command was under orders not to unduly upset the Hutts, who would certainly consider widespread bombing of one of their colonies an act of war. High command did not view the Hutts as a serious threat, but they did control vast swaths of space, and fighting them would require forces that were desperately needed elsewhere in the struggle against the rebels. That's how I found myself riding through the streets of Nar Eurbrikka, in the back of a civilian hovertruck, 2 hours before dawn. Two hover trucks pulled to a stop in front of the target house, and we piled out. Gunners with heavy repeating blasters covered the street as the entry team stacked up at the door. On cue, a small explosive charge destroyed the door. At the same time, flash grenades were thrown through the windows, and we went in. [note - the following photos have been light-enhanced to show the scene more clearly] Flash grenades are a beautiful thing. Unlike stun grenades, which leave unconscious prisoners who have to be carried out of the building, flash grenades explode with blinding light and deafening sound. This overwhelms the nervous system of most creatures, causing them to instinctively move into the corners of rooms while covering their heads. It takes most beings 10-15 seconds to recover from the shock, and by then we've infiltrated the building. Of course, we also have traditional blasters for anyone who was outside the range of the flash grenades and tried to put up a fight. The final tally was one rebel stunned by blaster, and four captured without further resistance. Less than three minutes later, the prisoners were loaded onto the hover trucks, along with captured weapons and datapads, and we disappeared into the night. This was my first mission with the Special Operations division of the Stormtrooper corps. To the casual observer, there was nothing to differentiate the commandos from regular storm troopers. A trained eye might notice that the troopers did not carry standard blasters. Commandos are given much more leeway when it comes to weapons selection, and for close-quarters raids like this one many prefer blaster pistols, which are more accurate when fired one-handed. A trained observer might also notice the fluid way that commandos move, communicating with hand-signals (habit from the missions where helmets with comlinks are not worn) and quickly clearing all areas of the target building. We kept our helmets on and didn't speak as we headed back to the temporary garrison, on the outskirts of town, but I knew there'd be celebration once we dropped the prisoners off. I relaxed, somewhat. I was still the FNG, but at least I hadn't screwed my first mission up. --------------------------------- Overall view:

    Daydelon Manor

This is my House, Phase 3 build for AoM. I'd like to receive UoP credit for: advanced SNOT [Architecture] (for the window designs), and mosaics, stained glass, or complex SNOTted floor designs [General Building (Other Techniques)] (for the SNOT floor and stained glass windows)= 2 credits This build was inspired by LL, Eklund, Sirens of Titan, and DNL. Credit for the corner pattern goes to LL. I used half stud offsets a lot in this build, and came up with some new window techniques/variations of existing window techniques. The building has a full interior as always. There are several large stone manors in Daydelon, one of the most elaborate belongs to the Hamr family. More pictures can be seen here: link All C&C welcome
  23. Now that the Drow have now invaded vast parts of Avalonia, The Council of Vanhorn has been called into a special session to discuss what measures to take. Lord Zulton: The Drow have taken the entire Southern portion of the Great Forests. This includes control of Athonion River and the Drow have sunk any ship that enters their so-called dominion. Lady Nithor: So, Enthall is completely cut off? Lord Zulton: I'm afraid so. The dense forests that are logged there have grown very much since the trails were cleared. And the river is the only other entrance. Lord Rodun: Something must be done! We cannot sit by as our people starve at the hands of the Drow! He says as he slams his fist on the arm rest. Lord Iroan: And what exactly should we do? We do not have the naval strength to launch an attack and the forest makes it impossible to access the port from the North. Lord Rubicon: And the Woodland Guard only operates in the Northern part of Vanhorn due to the dense forests. Myself: I'm not so sure, many of my troops know the area. It wouldn't be too much to launch a supply mission to Enthall. At least, it would keep the loggers alive until some naval support from Grand Lord Simon to help mount an attack. Lady Nithor: And your troops could make it in time? Myself: I believe so. I say nodding. Lord: Rubicon: Those woods haven't been traveled in years. If you're not sure you can do it, I say keep your troops here and ensure to have our full military strength when the Drow come to our front door. Lord Tinor: They already are at our door by starving a simple logging settlement! Lord Rubicon shakes his head in anger. Lord Zulton: My lords, I propose a vote. Those in favor? Lord Rodun: Aye Lord Tinor: Aye Lord Zulton: Aye Lady Nithor: Aye Myself: Aye Lord Zulton: The Ayes have it. Lord Lanthorn, you will take your evlen troops and embark on a resupply mission to Enthall. Council is adjourn. The Lords leave, but Lord Lanthorn goes to the Great Eye, a large window cut out of the wall in the rear of the Chambers that looks over the city of Vanguard. Lord Zulton notices this and walks up behind Eremir. Lord Zulton: Good luck, my friend. The people of Enthall will need it. He says, patting Eremir on the shoulder. Myself: Thank you, I just hope we're not too late. Dark times are coming, Denegorn. Thanks for viewing! C&C welcome!

    Daydelon Blacksmith

This is my phase 2 build for the House category in AoM. I'd like to receive UoP credit for: roofing (one of three) [Architecture], and manufacturing [Trade and Law]= 2 credits Surprisingly this is my first time building a medieval Blacksmith shop. It was a lot of fun and I think this is my best medieval house yet. As always there's a full interior and the door works. Every town needs a blacksmith, and Daydelon has a very good one. He's kept busy sharpening tools and swords as well as making new ones. More pictures can be seen here: link All Comments/Criticism appreciated
  25. I'd like to receive UoP credit for: trees [Landscape Design], flowing water [Hydrology], and river scene [Geography]= 3 credits Fossgard river is famous for its many waterfalls, the most prominent of which is simply called Fossgard Falls. Many bridges span the river, and Infernum and Glorfindel are now crossing on one of the smaller bridges... "What do you think we're up against?" Infernum asked Glorfindel. "No idea, but I imagine we'll find out within several days. The border isn't far now," Glorfindel replied. "And whatever it is, we'll make it wish it had never come into Mitgardia." This was my first time building a waterfall that splits, and I also tried a new tree technique. All C&C welcome
