    [MOCs] Febrovery 2021

I realized I have never posted these MOCs here, its almost the 2022 edition of this event on flickr, but here are my rovers of last year: Febrovery 2021 by Ids, on Flickr Individual links of my rovers are over on flickr (I don't feel like posting 28 rovers here ) Link to the album: https://flic.kr/s/aHsmUoBGfU Almost all my rovers, except one (number 3 got upgraded to number 22). To be honest I hadn't planned to make a rover every day, especially as most of them were build on the day itself or a day before. And some days I didn't really have inspiration/ideas to build one. But I made it, 28 rovers. :P
  6. I have seen some wonderful remakes of SW in Ice Planet colors, see below. Have you seen or made any MOCs in past space themes that were inspired by SW ships? Maybe even improved them? Please post them to give us inspiration. This photo was found on Reddit and I would love to make my own MOC diorama as well.

    [FIGS] Vintage Droid CMFs

Hi all! Recently I cooked up something unusual. What happens when you put together the new and the old? Pieces and ideas, that is? I have never owned any of the droids or even been into Space sets and whatnot, so wasn't infatuated with these three classic buggers until I picked them up very recently. I also own UFO droids, but those aren't as charismatic or distinctive. By combining mostly vintage Lego pieces and sneaking in a few new ones, I made a custom "VHS" trio complete with printed stands to resemble the CMF series. One thing to note: times have changed, and so has the trio's purpose... First: the white Exploriens Droid. Enemies will not be walking - heavy hammer does the talking! Second: Insectoids Droid. The menacing cannon's electromagnetic, the enemies better be very athletic! Third: Spyrius Droid. Tracking foes with recon bot, slashing them with plasma sword! That's it, folks! Weaponizing the trio was not my aim, but it just so happened that everything fell into place this way. Cheers, and comments are welcome!
  10. Hey everyone, Did this one last month, finally got around to posting it... goes out to all the fans of late classic space and playability! This is a mid-sized Explorien ship made for intergalactic exploratory missions seeking planets with life or key resources. My goal was to fit in as much playability as possible in an aesthetically pleasing package. But first, I'd like to introduce the crew in front of its main play function, an actuated elevator cargo bay! Here is a list of features within the four main areas - livable conditions for all four crew members - 2 floor modular interior with 4x sleeping chambers on lower level - biomedical lab - 4 seat lounge - bathroom with shower - large cargo bay with surface exporation and assessment equipment - play function to open back and lower entire cargo bay as elevator via linear actuators - working airlock to enter cargo area from living space - Roll cage rover fits 3 minifigs and includes drilling /grabbing platform - tracked power suit with cutting torch and grabber - storage for 4x space suits and minifig equipment - communications and sensor arrays - Intergalactic comm dish - planetary sensors for life/resource assessment - intragalactic comm arrays for more detailed communication in local galaxy - 2x interior seats for comm/sensor operators - long and short range transportation equipment - 2x dual engines equipped made for long range warp and short range thrust - retractable landing gear - adjustable front and side landing/takeoff thrusters - front of ship equipped for navigator and pilot The main shape and inner technic structure came about from 4 integral pieces I wanted to include for the sake of the Explorien theme, the front canopy, 2 SNOT large transparent panels in midsection, 16x16 white plate for removable roof to house comms, but most of all a large elevator cargo bay. Also visible are the retractable landing gear. Upper level interior visible from outside, sides equipped with flight sensors and antennae as well as front thrusters White dish is intergalactic communication to relay their findings to home base, but due to the limited information it can send and energy usage, there are a number of local arrays they use for local galaxy communication and sensor instruments Upper level of interior includes front navigation/pilot area, comm/sensor stations, biomedical lab, lounge, suit storage, and bathroom Upper level removed to showcase the sleeping chambers for long range transport, the chambers are used for storage when not in use Rear cargo area includes rover, power suit, airlock, and engines. The actuator function for the cargo elevator is visible form here, but can be operated when the vehicle is closed. Note that the sliding door for the airlock doubles as the door for the bathroom, assuming the crew would not need to use both at the same time! Rear cargo bay open and lowered, rover and power suit rolling out to go exploring!
  11. Here we have Lego's Nebula Outpost from 1996's Exploriens, a sub-theme of the long-running Space theme. It contains 158 pieces and its retail price at the time of release was $15. Like M-Tron and Ice Planet 2002, the Exploriens were a completely civilian outfit. The Nebula Outpost represents a small research base, which we'll now look at in further detail. To easily access the two levels of the outpost, one can open two panels at the top and bottom of the set. The upper section of the outpost is devoted to astronomy. It features a holographic panel with a shimmering starfield and a high-powered telescope. A minifigure can "operate" the telescope, but needs to lean back a bit because of how far the white cone element sticks out. Further, the upper section can rotate freely thanks to a turntable element that joins the upper and lower sections of the outpost. Another look at the upper section of the outpost, which shows the front of the telescope. To the left, one can make out a small hand-held detector that can be stored on a clip piece. We'll see more of that later. As part of another gimmick, the upper and lower sections of the outpost can be separated from one another. Perhaps this is an emergency escape module of some sort. The lower section of the outpost is devoted to communications and equipment storage. A minifigure can be stationed at a console with a large holographic sticker. The tools used to study fossils and an astronaut's "bazooka" style device can be stored here as well. Specialized stickers were a hallmark of the Exploriens. A large holographic sticker here reveals the image of another Explorien astronaut if viewed from just the right angle. Shown here are both of the tools featured for studying fossils. On the left is a set of red and blue "filters" that can be used to examine fossil plates. On the right is a magnet, which can can carry and transport the fossil plates due to their magnetic nature. When not used by the Exploriens, they can be clipped onto the lower section of the outpost for storage. They can also be used while attached to the outpost itself. Swinging them out on the hinges shown above gives one enough space to interact with them without bumping into the rest of the set. Here both tools are being held by a minifigure. Due to their weight though, it's necessary for them to touch the ground or floor, otherwise the minifigure will simply fall over. Seen here are both fossil plates included with the set. When looking at them unfiltered, they appear somewhat jumbled. Here are the fossil plates viewed under the filter tool. The plate on the left now appears to be an alien creature in an egg, while the one on the right is a dinosaur-like creature about to chew on a bone. And here the plates have been swapped to show the difference when viewed under the opposite color filter. The dinosaur-like creature is now chewing on the bone, while the alien in the egg has been replaced with a humanoid skull or mask. Because the stickers on the fossil plates are magnetic, they can cling to the magnet tool as shown here. Perfect for carrying and transporting a newly-discovered fossil. Shown here are both minifigures included in the set. They are unnamed and identical to one another except for their helmets. Having a more advanced helmet, one can assume that the astronaut on the left is a senior researcher. Lastly, here are both astronauts equipped with their hand-held devices. Being a research team, they're likely scanners or detectors of some sort rather than weapons. Overall this is a fun, if basic "space base" set. I feel like it looks the part of a remote research outpost. I enjoy the red/blue filter and magnetic gimmicks of the fossil plates, but several other Exploriens sets feature it as well. While not a "must-have" set, you can certainly do a lot worse. I hope everyone reading this has enjoyed taking a look at this set with me.
  12. Hi everyone, I had exhibited at Legoworld the Netherlands with a Space layout. It has been 6 years since I have done something with my Space collection. The last time I had everything in one landscape, but this time I wanted to separate all the sub-themes in different landscapes. The landscapes are also in time sequence. In the landscapes you can see the overlap of some subthemes. One other idea was to connect the worlds with each other with a monorail. The monorail set 6990 was the set to connect all the worlds. The first set is from 1986 and the time line ends at 2011 (Alien Conquest). I do have Space Police III, but I did not have the bricks to create one more landscape. I do not have Mars Mission or Roboforce, because of lack of interest. The link to the pictures: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=549231 I hope you like it. Sander
