Etymology: Trador comes from "Trade" and the Dutch word "Dorp" (village) - Island information Island #: 13 Claimed by EslandolaNickname: The ShadowGeographical Features: This Island has a natural bay ideal for a trading post. The island is well guarded by steep rocky coasts on most sides, and the water is deep.Rumors: More than one sailor has independently reported seeing a massive black shadow in the sea circling around the island. The more suspicious of sailors suspect this is a sea monster, or sea monsters, lurking beneath the foam to swallow their ships whole, while the more academic postulate this could be a school of fish, indicating good fishing waters, or even a pod of whales, drawn to this island for unknown reasons. Nevertheless, sailors, and the natives, have avoided this island. - Location of Trador: - Soldiers stationed in Trador MAESTRO Golden Stars - 1st Battalion | MAESTRO | General Samu the Dragon Trador Guards - 1st Battalion | Trador | Lieutenant Wilhelmus La Sombra Forts protecting Trador Fort Coconut | MAESTRO | small | 1 sp | 5 value Merchant Gate | MAESTRO | medium | 2 sp | 10 value External Forts protecting Trador Fort Brickwall | Eslandola | Royal Fortress of Puerto Desafio - List of licensed properties in Trador: Art & Culture (8/8) Wellness The fountain of youth Spa | MAESTRO | Medium | 2 sp Culture & Festivals Preparing for the Winter Solstice Festival | Gedren_y | Large | 3 sp Parks Poseidon's Park (Fun at the Park) | Blackdeathgr | small | 1 sp Training Day | Bodi | small | 1 sp Trador Park | Captain Braunsfeld | 1 sp Artisan (11/11) Pubs The Three Flower Inn | MAESTRO | Medium | 2 sp Trador Soccer Field | Maxim I | Medium | 2 sp Golden Fish Inn | Maxim I | Small | 1 sp Green Door Pub | Capt Wolf | Small | 1 sp Beer Garden | Ayrlego | small | 1 sp Trador Bar | Mesabi | smal | 1 sp Whitechapel District Brothel | Professor Thaum | small | 1 sp Shops Mme Bijoux Accessoires | Maxim I | Small | 1 sp Clothes Shop | MKJoshA | small | 1sp Commerce (18/18) Quays Merchant Quay | Maxim I | Royal | 5 sp Trador Beach Quay (Tenotclaxcan Training) | Faladrin & MAESTRO | Large | 3 sp Services Mme Camille Real Estate Agency | Maxim I | Small | 1 sp Warehouses Empty Warehouse (New Trador Soccer Competitors) | Dr_Spock | small | 1 sp Unclaimed Warehouse (Leaving Trador) | Mesabi | medium 2 sp The Apple Cider smugglers | Maxim I | Medium | 2 sp WayMart Trador | Mesabi | Medium | 2 sp Education (5) Trador Agency of Exploring & Culture | MAESTRO | Small | 1 sp Trador Libary | Maxim I | small | 1 sp Trador University - Department of Chemical Engineering | MAESTRO COR | Medium | 2 sp Trador School | Silentwolf | Small | 1 sp Factory (12) Textile Trador Textile Factory | Capt. 2. Although many think of Salida Este as a frontier town, expanding MCTC commerce has begun to convert the tiny settlement into a wealthy metropolis. Middle-class Eslandians, staking their savings on one bold venture, have moved in and are establishing not only a center of business, but a city with a culture all its own. The Hillier family, just recently arrived in Salida Este, are happy to move into their new house in time for the holidays. A reckless sea captain turned sensible merchant with a handy ability to do almost any work, Mr. Hillier is confident of his ability to succeed in this new world. Mr. Hillier Sr. goes where his son goes, happy anywhere he can bring his library. Miss Hillier's correspondence was well known for the beauty of its calligraphy and the vacuity of its content in the old world, and Salida Este correspondents are finding her no less devoid of solecisms and originality. Long time butler, man servant, and jack-of-all-trades to the family, Aryan finds that the toughest part of the rough new life falls on him. Mrs. Hillier may have been second rank (possibly third or fourth) back in Eslandola, but here in the colonies, she has a reputation to maintain and maintain it she will, with the aid of Pussy-dinkum. Cutler Hillier - or buddy as he is better known - is one of the most accomplished jokers this side of Gotham. Watch yourself and your possessions carefully if he's within three miles! This is my first build for the "new" Salida Este - hope you enjoy it! I had a great time trying out some new color combinations. Putting my new stash of cool green to use was an amazing feeling. C&C welcome!
  3. At an inn in Nova Terelli... The crew of the Cardinal's Shadow, enjoying their delicious-tasting drinks as they discuss the strange affairs of the last month on the Brick Seas - particularly the strange stuff with a certain ubiquitous pirate Captain... Suddenly, inexplicably, they all began to nod off to sleep, and despite their best efforts, they were all in the land of Nod within five minutes, dreaming, doubtless, of - well, we won't bother to get into that. But in case you happen to be wondering what was actually going on, shortly previously Captain Unrigged Nordau, having eluded the Nova Terelli officials (with the help of his loyal first mate, of course) - the affair in Rasillion, you see, was entirely a mistake, which, of course, the newspapers totally bobbled; as soon as he and his Sea Rat interceptors had had a good talk they had become capital friends, and he had only left them his little sloop as a gift in exchange for their help in getting him closer to Montario, which it was his goal to raid - anyhow... where were we? Right - shortly before, the good Captain, having given the officers the slip, had administered a bit of his favorite monkey-brewed potion to the crew's cups, which was, of course, the cause of the strange slumber. Then, rowing out to the ship, which was but lightly guarded in such a secure port as Nova Terelli, he had tossed the sentry overboard, and - again with his loyal first mate's most able help - commandeered the ship as his lawful prize. Well, perhaps the legality of it all might just be a little doubtful, but that obviously isn't the point... Well, there you have it! Thanks to Legostone for letting me run off with the Cardinal's Shadow in exchange for getting captured in my little Class 0 - this is definitely one fortunate pirate captain! Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome as always!
  4. Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Introduction and Starting Thread (Just looking for the Master Index?) What is it? The simple answer is that it is a building community on Eurobricks that is open to all who wish to join. We tell stories about a maritime-oriented world where the technology level is parallel with the historical Age of Sail. There are currently four factions. Each member joins a faction, and builds to win points (Gold doubloons and influence points) for their faction, themselves, and to better their building skills. At any given time of the year there may be one or more building challenges in which a builder may win recognition and sometimes prizes for themselves. On top of this, there is also a game mechanic that allows players to earn more gold and power for themselves and their faction. Background: The year is 615 AE (After Empire) and this is the dawn of a new era. For the first time in the history of the continent of Halos, new lands have been discovered. Even more shocking, the Halosians are not alone in the world. Once thought to be a flat plane, where monsters roamed the edges, the world is now believed by most geographers to be most certainly round. This was proven first with the discovery of Terraversa by the Mardierian explorer, Ardmond Basker. For 100 years the Mardierians have held Terraversa as a far off gateway, keeping all others out and not allowing the information of the world to the east, or New Terra, to permeate into the rest of Halos. At almost a 1000 miles from the next island in the Sea of Storms, the island remains a most crucial point on the voyage into the unknown. As time went on, other nations of the Madrice Peninsula began to search the seas for other islands and their potential riches. South of the Basker Islands, Corrington took Tiberia, an unforgiving rock just outside of the much more lucrative tropical zone. Oleon found LeBellan, the jewel of the Sea of Storms. LeBellan sits right inside the tropical zone, and produces sugar in vast quantities. 56 years ago Eslandola took possession of An Holli and An Toli, two smaller islands south of LeBellan, both sugar producing as well. Despite gaining footholds in the Sea of Storms, the other Madrician nations were unable to voyage beyond Terraversa. This all changed with the death of King Harln of Mardier, and the vast civil war that began in the country in 595 AE. Instead of looking to gain territory from Mardier’s mainland, the Eslandolans approached the Viceroy of Terraversa and paid him handsomely for permission to trade at the island. The Viscount took it further and allowed ALL nations to pay for the privilege to visit his island. Twenty years later, as the civil war continues, Terraversa has become a defacto independent state. The Viscount’s son, Miro Oldis, now runs the island, and his father’s policies live on. It is not certain if the Mardierians will reestablish their colony or not after the war, but it may be too late. In 597, intrepid Eslandolian explorer Cato Calrelli sailed east from Terraversa into the unknown. It was thought to be suicidal at the time, but he returned 70 days later with the news that he had found more of New Terra. He claimed the land for Eslandola, and soon the Kingdom of Eslandola was the leading nation in colonization. In 605, news circulated throughout the Madrice Peninsula that the Eslandolans had found gold on their island of Nellisa, and this set off a thirst for expansion and exploration never before seen. With Terraversa as a launching spot for new expeditions, Corringtonians, Oleanders, Eslandolans, along with some Garvans, Mardierans, and Carnovans made their way towards New Terra. Many found themselves unable to find supplies at Nellisa, the Eslandolans baring even some of their own from landing on the island. These vagabonds headed south, where a new isle was found, one with few resources, but great defensive harbors. Soon, the Sea Rats had a home. Angry that they had been dispossessed and had not found aid, many turned to vengeance on the Eslandolans by becoming pirates, and many of these pirates began to prey on all nations, and even their fellow pirate. Besides Terraversa, where the Atwi tribe lives, no new natives have been found yet. The islands beyond Terraversa have so far all had strange abandoned settlements upon them, and some sailors say that there is a whole new nation of people in these far waters, but no one has recorded seeing a non-Halosian or Atwi person yet. OW NORTH Series Map This brings us to the present. Oleon and Corrington have both issued rewards for the first permanent settlement “Beyond the Line” (beyond Terraversa). They are willing to bring their navies to New Terra if they only have a settlement to resupply at. Eslandola is calling for its own people to venture into the unknown and find wealth and fortune in the its name. But the Sea Rats lurk in all the waters of New Terra, waiting for opportunity, and despite the world seeming more round than ever, some say those old sea monsters still exist in the uncharted lands of the East. All factions await new souls to take on a role in the New World. Who will win in the end? Nobody knows, but for sure the sea will play a large role in deciding the fate of these rich new lands. She can be a cruel mistress to those who do not respect her, indeed, and the only guarantee in this world is that salt will run through your veins as you become part of the Brethren of the Brick Seas. The Crossing Series Mapd How this works: Builders pick a faction - this is your faction until the next “open period,” so make sure to pick a character you like. You will be able to change factions with enough personal influence points (PIPs), but that take a while. Your builds do not have to display your signature figure, but we encourage it! You also may build MOCs in other faction’s territory, so building is not limited to one style. There will be an “Era” of story and challenges, which will end with winners being determined in a few different categories. The contests and stories told during an era will influence the map, the history of the world, and future challenges. When a era is completed, points will be reset, but Factions and builders will keep their “gold doubloons.” (DBs) Builders and factions alike seek fortune. This project setting revolves around two currencies that are earned by building and winning competitions. This is the economy of the project. We understand that not every builder will want to play this game, and a builder can opt out of playing altogether, or only participating in the game when they choose. Free Builds that enhance the community’s story are always welcome. Even if a builder opts out of playing the "Economic Game System" (EGS), their freebuilds will earn their faction Doubloons and Factions Influence Points. Please see the rules thread for more details on how the economy works. Factions: The Kingdom of Eslandola STATUS: Open for new members SCORE: 0 DBs | 0 FIPs The Empire of Corrington STATUS: Open for new members SCORE: 0 DBs | 0 FIPs The Empire of Oleon STATUS: Open for new members SCORE: 0 DBs | 0 FIPs The Sea Rats STATUS: Open for new members SCORE: 0 DBs | 0 FIPs What you need to do now: Take a look at the faction threads. Pick a side and sign up in the faction thread with your signature figure (sig fig). It helps to have a back story! Can I have more than one character? Yes! Although one should be your sig fig and your main character, you can have as many other characters as you wish. The world needs populated after all! A starting challenge: This is open to everyone to complete once, and 25DBs will be awarded to the builder for completing the task. Build your sig fig and place them in a setting in our world. It can be in the colonies, in the motherland, at sea, anything you would like, but make sure to show the figure clearly and demonstrate the profession you have chosen for them in some way. (IE: if you decided to play an explorer, maybe you will place them on the bow of a ship looking out to sea with a spy glass.) Any profession that existed during the enlightenment is fine, along with a few other professions that would be a reasonable fit. If you are playing in the EGS, then there are a few character traits that you may want to consider here. How are scores kept? Each month, a pinned thread will help us keep score. After you complete a build (which should have its own thread, no matter if it is a free build, a duel, or a challenge build) you need to post in this score keeping thread and use a leadership-supplied link to a webform to help us keep score. In the thread, post your name, faction, and a link to your build (and the challenge it belongs to) in the thread. Please only use one post per topic, and just edit the thread when you build something else. At the end of the month, a project leader will tally up the scores and update the “Hall of Fame and Score” post for each faction. Please be patient for updates, we are not being paid for this. Scores will be displayed as follows: Name: DBs, PIPs, (PIPs achieved this cycle) IE: Skaforhire: 5DB, 5PIPs, (2PIPs) Current faction score is kept by adding all member’s totals within the parenthesis minus any expenditures the faction has made during the cycle. What can be bought with points and doubloons? A lot. The list will grow over time with more specifics, but since we are just launching this project, here are some of the examples without specific details: DBs: Position within trading guilds, rank in certain factions, a letter of marque to join another factions war against a third faction, a licence to sail a vessel in the raiding action, gamble, etc… FIPs: A newly discovered island, win a war between factions, buy DBs for the total score, open up a new portion of the map just for your faction for a few months, etc… The Map: The map is a part of the storytelling mechanism. As you can see, it is not totally defined yet. This will change as time goes on. New portions of the New World (and some of the Old) will be uncovered through events, challenges, and other parts of the project. New islands will be claimed, older territories will be taken in war, and the map will stay dynamic throughout the story. Builders will have the map revealed to them over time, and they will help decide what lands are conquered. With that said, the first part of our story will take place in New Terra. Your character should probably have some feasible connection that would lead them to that region, or it may be hard to really participate in the early challenges. A baker back in Eslandola’s capitol city is probably going to have little interaction with things going on in New Terra. We will eventually have challenges that happen on the mainland, and different story events “back home,” but we are emphasizing the pirate theme and its nature primarily in the first part of this project. Once a firm piratical lore and history is established, more aspects of Enlightenment era politics, war making, and commerce will emerge. 5. (this topic started here) They started their descent towards the pyramid they had seen in the valley. The jungle was getting thicker with each step and the mercenaries were using their sabres to cut their way forward. "There must be some way out of here", Swash Buckler said to Ram Brandt. "So much confusion here." "And the yellow things that grow here, have a strange smell", Scarlett Pontellinova added. "They make me tired", Swash Buckler replied. "Weary. My weariness amazes me." Suddenly a clearing opened before them - with a single strange stone statue in the middle of the clearing, staring back at them. "What shall we do now?" Ram Brandt asked. "It is a pagan statue. Probably of evil nature", said Swash. "Something the Oleon guys would not want to see." "Hush. The thing is hearing every word we're saying. Just look at those ears!" "I am more worried about the teeth." "Let us not talk falsely now. Shall we blow it to pieces and move on?" Scarlett mused. "We should save our bombs for the time being. We do not know what lies ahead of us at the pyramid", Swash replied. "The thing does not seem to be in perfect shape. There are cracks here and there. So, let's give it a little push", Clara Brickinson suggested. "Just a little push ..." "... and we'll be smiling." The statue came down with a crash. "That was easy." "That should be a solution to the worries of the good old Oleon Church", Ram concluded with a smile. "And we saved our bombs." "Let us forget about this place until tomorrow", Clara added. "I am still feeling tired and strange. My toes are too numb to step", Swash added but the others were not really listening as they moved on. (to be continued)
  6. Guided by what Rum'Or had told them, the mercenaries moved on deeper into the island. They stopped on a small mountain top, bedazzled by what had come into their sight: "What on earth is that?" Swash Buckler called out. "Looks like an ancient pyramid to me", Scarlett Pontellinova replied. "According to our friend here to the right, this might be dangerous", Clara Brickinson added. "But what is this black thing on top of it?" Ram Brandt asked. "We'll find out", Swash Buckler said. "We'll find out". (to be continued) ... (Thanks for watching)

With Fontonajo's Governor's Palace at the edge of town, both wealthy merchants or businessmen and influential or aspiring politicians have come to the town. Many of them only own a secondary house in Montario, which they visit whenever it's neccessary. However many people have moved to the town permanently. Houses are generally high-class, as are all other establishments. There is little industry in the town, however there is an extraordinary focus on things like art, culture or education. Pontelli hath voted

Friends, Oleonders, Corringtonados and Countrymen: The people of Pontelli have voted! Smiling Sally will be the new Mayor of Pontelli! Hip Hip Hooray! While the bagpipes were playing and the crowd was cheering, Smiling Sally - in her formal dress as Mayor of Pontelli - was given the keys to the city - in a ceremony in front of the town hall. In a first statement, Sally announced that Toktawoo (who had actually taken off his mask) will support her and Pontelli by handling external affairs. Also, Attorney Jon van Dyke will be responsible for jurisdictional affairs and such. Hip Hip Hooray!

  11. A little to the northwest of Salida Este on Ferro Azure lies a small island. Geographically it belongs to Ferro Azure, and the island is not really worth mentioning. Below that island lies an even smaller island, which they call the “Cotton Island”. That tiny island is owned by no other than the Fontonajo family, who made the once jungle-covered island arable and are growing and selling their cotton, solidifying the MCTC monopoly on that resource. Some patches of jungle still show what the island once looked like. In the middle of the island a small creek springs. The spring supplies the whole island through an irrigation system that Fontonajo’s men have developed. Cotton is a thirsty plant. Many workers irrigate and harvest the cotton, storing it in big boxes at the wooden warehouse on the beach. Some workers are currently removing the last parts of jungle on the eastern coast of the island, to enlarge the arable land, so even more cotton can be planted. When Don Isaac Montoya heard of the plans to destroy even more of the beautiful and original vegetation of the island, he feared for the further existence of plants and animals that might else be unknown to the world. Fontonajo granted permission to members of the Royal Society of Natural Philosophy to come to the island and preserve the wildlife. James Firming from Corrington, a well-known butterfly-catcher in the colonies, is currently hunting some of the beautiful butterflies on the “Cotton Island”. Marko big behind is the Custodian of the island, though he prefers to call himself Harbourmaster. Right now he is greeting Alvaro Bastici, owner of a textile factory in Salida Este, a regular visitor to the “Cotton Island”. Bastici usually visits the island on his small sloop to manually select the best cotton for his factory. On the northwestern shore, which the workers call the “Long Coconut Beach”, some coconut palms still stand, and sure profit can be made from harvesting and selling those as well. Marcho, a tanned guy with curly hair, who surely has some ancestors from more southern lands than Eslandola, is a trained palmtree-climber. On the northern edge stands a small watchtower to guard the island from intruders. Or at least spot them. Sure, if a real raid from Mardier was to come, the one guard most likely would not stand a chance, but if some lousy buccaneers were to come by, the people on the island know how to defend their cotton. Will license this as a "Royal Plantation". Studcount: 158x118 = 18.664 > 16.384 = 128x128. Some more pictures can be found in this flickr album. If you want to see a close-up of something else, just let me know.
  12. Era 2 Chalenge 1 Cat B2: A Volcano Extract of the personal log of Fernando de la Izquierda : "After a little ascension we managed to understand where the smoke was coming from. Our men helped us to build some little wooden platform (with, again, grumblings from Bernardo...) to reach the edge of what appeared to be a volcano mouth !" "The chimnea itself is not very high nor large and could be a small part of a bigger lava network running underground. It would explain the discovery of hot water pools in the vicinity... The lava is slowly running to the river downside through a breach at the south part of the chimnea and seems not very fluid. It is surely indicating a regular but somewhat calm activity. Well, for a volcano, of course... But no risk to see the island explode on a big eruption here..." Here is my 2nd entry on Cat B. It is linked to my first entry and they are built to be one next to another. In the spoiler I am showing the 2 builds together :

  14. Previously: Chapter 1 Chapter 2: Sinbad the Pirate Hang The Rules Rescued Shipwright Shipwright's Office The Komodo Dragon "Because They're Pirates!" Fish Market The Trial of Sinbad The Trial of Sinbad part 2 The Trial of Sinbad part 3 The Trial of Sinbad part 4 The Trial of Sinbad part 5 Phase 2 During the events of Jan, a fleet of Sea Rat vessels fired on ESL ships as they themselves sailed into an ESL harbor. The detained Sea Rats contributed to the economy of Fuerte Unido enough that ESL allowed them to leave with the promise never to harass them again. However, ESL still wanted someone to be judged for the crimes committed against their fair nation. Hear ye, hear ye! This court is now in session. Who do we have on the docket today? Sinbad the Pirate sir. He is charged with orchestrating an attack on Eslandolian ships as his pirates sailed into an Eslandolian port. And how does the defendant plead? He pleads "Not Guilty." On what grounds? Shouldn't I have a trial by jury? Lawyer Hamilton, please have your defendant remain silent. He has you as his counsel, there is no need to him to speak. What a bunch of tightwads! Sir, you'll find we are not some dim witted court ready to be swayed by your faulting arguments and impartial reasoning. Now be quiet or I shall have my guards force you to be quiet. Now, on what grounds does the defendant claim innocence? On the grounds of not being present when the altercation took place. That is not sufficient reason. We have a letter sent from Sinbad to the ships in question ordering them to attack Eslandolian traders. Unless you have something more substantial, we shall have to hang Sinbad. Um, well.... Stop that man! Gladly! Corrington hired us bounty hunters to apprehend Sinbad ever since he escaped their clutches at his last trial. Turns out he is guilty of piracy and bribery. How would Sinbad escape this time?

    Plants in Jameston

After challenge 5, the Fontonajos have added further properties to their estates in Jameston (microbuilds to activate challenge rewards): C) Medium Plantation: Bees & Honey (hope this counts as a micro build; if it does not please let me know, and I will license this as a small plantation and come up with a real micro) The Myzec of Cascadia collect honey from wild bees as a sweetener for their foods and drinks on special occasions. Celestia, as the neighbouring island, has even more biological diversity. The businessmen they are known for, the Fontonajos have decided to have some honey bees imported from the old world, to recreate the excquisite in a controlled environment near Jameston on Celestia - and potentially the wild bees of the island might be attracted and both types of bees - if they are different in the first place - might interbreed eventually? B) Large Educational Property: Botanical Gardens In the rapidly growing settlement of Jameston on the island of Celestia, Juan Alfonso Fontonajo has opened a small Botanical Garden to display the wonderful flora of the island that he and others have discovered on their adventures deep into the jungle covered mountains of Celestia. A) Large Property of my choice: Cotton Plantation Near Jameston the Juan Fontonajo has setup a cotton plantation - and with the help of Corrish scientists has come up with an innovative irrigation system. In the middle of the concentric fields there is a well, and water is pumped up from that well into a very long tube that ranges all over the field, to automatically irrigate the whole width of the field. An ox is walking circles around the well all day to turn the tube, which is placed on stakes with wheels at the bottom - and the whole field is irrigated. Will that new technological advancement spread over all the Brick Seas?
  16. Treasure! The word had been magical; at the call of adventure and intrigue and a pile of shiny gold doubloons Guy K. Wyndzon had left his Secretary-of-State-ship, his head-of-the-MCTC-ship, and all other -ships which he possessed. Besides, he was tired of the routine of urban life, tired of the tightrope of political strife - ready to strike out a new path. Hard work, certainly, he expected. Visions of himself hacking through underbrush, whacking at mosquitoes and wiping off beads of sweat haunted his daydreams. But reality turned out to be worse. Because, as Guy discovered all too soon, in these days of civilization, you can't just go on a treasure hunt. First, you must receive a treasure-hunter's license; to do this, you must pass a treasure-hunting course, which requires special training in swordsmanship and the use of firearms; there's also a subsidiary course on how to best dig a hole while doing the least possible danger to the environment. Then you must apply specifically for a license to treasure hunt in some particular area. Fortunately, if you don't know exactly where you intend to hunt, there exists a blanket organization which, for a moderate fee, handles the paperwork between you and the several regional departments of the interior and exterior, except for a few recalcitrant departments that insist on doing things their own individual way - to which departments, of course, you must apply separately. In order for your expedition to be approved, you must provide a detailed expedition plan which includes exactly the quantity of provisions you intend to take, the members of your expedition and their former employments, port of departure, intended port of return, date of departure, estimated date of return, and a list of five people to contact in case of emergency. Some departments also require a list of arms and equipment. Besides all that, you and anyone accompanying you have to pass a background check and a medical check. At one time there was a bill in agitation that would have required a would-be treasure hunter to leave in security an amount sufficient to cover the tax on the amount of treasure a qualified (and commission-earning) official expected the hunter might be able to make. But this was thought too stringent. As for Guy, he's still stuck on the swordsmanship part. At Uncle's instigation, he applied for lessons to a former naval officer (suspicions abound as to whether he retired or was cashiered). Whatever else may be said about the officer, he certainly knows his business! Guy studied on in his spare time between red tape, and slowly - quite slowly - improved. His instructor is a master at the craft, and has plenty of tricks up his sleeve. Outside of lesson hours, Guy often comes and practices on his own. The naval officer also has a shooting gallery in another part of the building (a partially refurbished warehouse, by the way). In fact, he allows the best shots to practice on the shield. Guy isn't among them. Guy's Uncle has been a tower of strength to him in these difficult days of paperwork and lessons. So when Guy heard that his Uncle was "just going" flower-hunting on Celestia, well, he was outraged. ----------------------------- Just a little build to explain why Guy's treasure hunt has been taking so long! Unfortunately he probably won't be done with his paperwork too soon, because I've got a busy schedule including time away from my bricks ahead of me, but hopefully the story will be make up for the wait when it comes along! A few more pictures: If you'd like to get a glimpse behind the scenes you can do so on my blog! Thank you for looking! C&C welcome!
  17. Era 2, Challenge 1 Cat B 1 : Dangerous flora and new species Extract of the personal log of Fernando de la Izquierda : "Our progression through the jungle of Celestia was difficult but we managed to follow the stream of a river for few miles now. It eased our walk for a while. Of course, Bernardo had found the way to grumble after every new plant or dangerous situation. His last recrimination was after a carnivorous plant that tryed to eat Sancho Panacea. Obviously, no need to worry for my man ! He swiftly unsheathe his sword and the carnivorous plant was no more than fresh wood for our next fire." "Suddenly, our scientist, el senor de la Verdad, took me appart of the carnivorous plant action to make me remark a strange flower. He said it was an authentic Cactae Purpurescens, a totally new variety of flower. The flower is a normal cacti bush at it start but with a solid appendice presenting a purple petal base toped by a florishing brilliant carmine head where the reproductive parts of the plant are. El senor de la Verdad decided to cut some samples from the flower and we continued our way to the high spot we've seen smoking earlier. We are expecting to discover the origin of this smoke on the top of the next highs..." This is the first part of a 2 entries build. The second part can be found at my Cat B2 entry ! I hope it is not against the rules, as each build is 32x32 and clearly shows 2 different features. In the spoiler I am showing the 2 builds linked together :
  18. Here's the latest from my ship-building binge, the carrack Hidalga. The crew is busy at work: There's a discussion on the quarterdeck: The lookout scans the horizon through his looking glass: Captain Hugo Pinzon looks back into the mourning sun: But soon his attention returns to tasks on deck as they sail to their destination. A bird's eye view: One more normal view: Additional images: All C&C welcome. .
  19. Here's my latest effort at a ship using gray hull pieces, the Esmerelda: She's a small armed merchant, capable of fighting off small attackers, as this crewman is ready to do: The Esmerelda is small enough to navigate shallow waters, but as you can see by her rounded shape, can still carry a fair-sized cargo. With a small crew, Captain Enrique Marino handles the helm himself: But rumor has it that Capt. Marino and the crew of the Esmerelda have been tapped for a special mission. Stay tuned for more... --- More fun playing with gray hull pieces. I was going to name it something along the lines of Emerald Fog or some such to play off the green and gray color scheme, but Emerald morphed into Esmerelda and I liked that better. All C&C welcome.
  20. Cast iron is a valuable commodity in the islands. It's very expensive to ship iron from the mainland, so an iron foundry is an important part of a growing settlement. Here is the iron foundry in Weelond: The iron ore and charcoal needed for the blast furnace are kept in a storage house, near the furnace, but accessible from the street for easy delivery of the raw materials: The furnace is kept going for days on end without cooling down and reaches temperatures of nearly 2000 degrees (note the worker's protective facewear): When ready, a worker breaks the hole to allow the liquid iron to flow out: The molten iron flows into channels, where it cools... ... and is cast into ingots ("pigs") that can be used by blacksmiths to be formed into various items. Here piles of iron ingots can be seen in the background while a customer discusses delivery arrangements. A view from the street: Additional views: With the addition of this iron foundry, which will be licensed as a medium factory, Weelond is now a Large City! ---------- This was built and photographed by @Drunknok as my prize from his Merrynight challenge. I think he did an excellent job!
  21. With the proclamation from the Colonial Council calling for anti-piracy patrols, one captain is ready. At the helm of his brigantine, the captain discusses his plans with one of his trusted crew. And he's off on the hunt! Profile view: --- I know I'm light on story, but just wanted to get this build posted. It's a little retro at the bow, but that's the mood I seem to be in lately. All C&C welcome.
  22. I was playing around with some gray hull pieces last week and, inspired by last month's discussion of Ayrlego's receipt of a nearly complete 6271 Imperial Flagship and the subsequent discussion of modifying it, I came up with the following: The lines of set 6271 should be apparent, but the different color scheme really changes the appearance of the ship, as does the stretch modification. Some more views: A view of the stern: Sailing away... All C&C welcome!
  23. Legostone

    Thunder

A vessel orginially planned for the ESL-MAR conflict has finally been finished. A little bit late, but with a bit of luck (?) it can find a use in the future. Here is the Bomb Ketch Thunder:
  24. Garmadon

    Burglars!!

Previously: Sinking of the Shuriken Uncle snored deeply, rocking slowly back and forward in his chair. He was in his favorite room, taking his mid-day nap, and everything around was quiet and still, except the draught drifting slowly down the chimney. Suddenly there was a slight movement over in the corner, and something seemed to be moving surreptitiously down the chimney... and, in fact, that was exactly what was happening. Our friend, the Garveyan Smuggler Captain, popped his head out and took a glance around - coast clear. Well, there was Uncle dozing over by the door, but everybody knew that when Uncle was asleep, Uncle was asleep, so that was that. He winked and pulled himself back up a little ways. There was a little secret about that chimney... --------------------------------------------------- Some time later, as the Captain rode away in a little jollyboat on his third trip to the ship with another boat-full of Uncle's treasure (the compartment went some ways in through the wall, you see - and it actually is fairly long and full IRL! ), his mate queried, "Um, so Cap'n, how was it that you found out where ol' Uncle kept all his DBs?" "I be a student of physiognomy, matey," he winked, "and Uncle had the kind of a face of somebody who stashes all his DBs in the chimney." "Ah," was all the mate could return. He was a bit flummoxed with the Captain's power of reading countenances. But the fact was, that the Captain had actually just been poking his nose in to check in on Guy's famous (or infamous, if you happen to be in debt) Uncle, when he'd come across the little door there... but no use telling his mate such a lame story as that! Figless: ------------------------------------------------------------ Hey all! Just a little BoBS build from me, to officially state the fact that I'm stealing 6,000 DBs from Guy's Uncle (woot!) - or to put it more accurately, our mysterious Garveyan Smuggler is. Hopefully there'll be more along this storyline - including what he's planning next - coming soon... (and if you're all trembling in your boots, that's the goal Jk!) Credit for the chair design (ever so slightly modified) goes to SK and LJ's tutorials on Brickbuilt! Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome as always!
  25. Prelude: ... (Eslandola Colonial Council, January 25th 618 AE) ... A few days later, at dawn: A Battalion of MAESTRO soldiers marched into the harbour. Under command of General Whitedragon, they boarded the anchored Sea Rat vessels. The Eslandolan soldiers quickly disarmed the Sea Rats without any harm or causalties as the Sea Rats understood they had a disadvantage and the Eslandolans came in peace. Aboard the Misfortune's Wrath, General Whitedragon summoned a clerk.declaring the Sea Rats vessels to be detained. All Sea Rats are free men, free to roam the pubs in Fuerto Unido, but misbehaving would not be accepted. But they had to stay in Fuerto Unido for the upcoming period. Asking who was in charge of the Sea Rats fleet, a guy with white cloak and golden skull on his bicorn was appointed as the most important Sea Rat. Little did the Eslandolans know the Sea Rats dressed up a common sailor and appointed him to be in charge. They even called him Captain Whitemouse, to mock with the famous Eslandolan General Whitedragon. Back in his office, General Whitedragon sent the following letter: ------------------- A MRCA response. It is now up to the Sea Rats. The letter could be recognised as an adapted copy of a famous Corrington letter. The build itself was fun. I wanted to recreate the style some Sea Rats builders are building their vessels and Black Sails was an inspiration as well.
