I wanted to continue with my current Dune obsession but there really isn't all that much inside the Dune universe which lends itself to be transformed into Lego. But I figured that a sandworm + rider would be a nice challenge. I have gone into Stud.io and tried to come up with something. While I do like the current look, I'm not sure if I continue down that path. The damn thing is just too big. It sits on three 32x32 base plates. We're already at more than 3600 pieces and the rear end is still missing, plus I only have a rudimentary support structure for the sand dunes. So I expect a final design to end up quite a bit north of 4000 pieces which is just unreasonable. Still, it was fun so far, so I might at least finish the design in Stud.io. But I doubt that I'll take it any further than that.

If you have followed my WIP Post, you will already have the gist of it. I have finally managed to iron out any issues with my Stud.io design and create the instructions. Basically, I have tried to do the following things: Design a completely new tail section. Replace any offensive colours. Design new panels with less studs. Make the overall shape more like the movie Thopter. You can judge for yourself if I succeeded. Instructions and Part List are available here: https://reb.li/m/179131 Here are some more renderings: And some pictures of my prototype (there are some minor differences compared to the final design):

[MOC] Dune Buggy RC - 8284 Redesigned
cyberdyne systems posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Good day/night/whatever everyone! I want to share with you a little experiment of mine that got a bit out of control. I hope, you remember set 8284 and its really unique looking b-model. At least I do. Furthermore, it is one of my favourite b-models and I really wanted to pay tribute to it. Obviuos thought was, of course, to make it RC with the new Control+ elements. After half an hour I got something that could drive and steer. I even tested it in the local park, but... something was off. It just wasn't enough. However good looking this buggy is, its transmission wasn't created with electromotors and speedy driving in mind. Wheels tended to fall off. Gears in diff broke at least once. And offroading capabilities were...em... on the small side of expectations. And I got an idea! I decided not just to motorize this buggy, but completely redesign, reimagine it from technical point of view, keeping exterior close enough to what it was before. You know, like these like-oldtimer-outside-but-modern-inside tribute cars which car companies sometimes make. Also I wanted to make transformation function more interesting and useful. So, I started on the blueprints... And here it is! All modern all new Dune Buggy! With familiar face which got a facelift. Literally. New version of transformation not just shortens the car, but lifts all front section up While cockpit raises up, special levers make sure that headlights between wheels always stay horizontal. And not only that. Another special lever in the rear section locks the differential using new orange shifter. This way buggy becomes most offroad. And now - to the video! (With the new intro btw) -

[TC20] Lego 8207 Dune Duster - remake
filsawgood posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi legofans! The idea of the TC20 competition seems very cool to me! Several years ago I already made an attempt to build a remake of 8414. Now there is a great reason to build my second set of Lego techniques - 8207. My father gave it to me when I was 7. My joy knew no bounds. And now, after almost a quarter of a century, I want to repeat this set in a new form. -

I mainly build Technic C-Models, but I also enjoy Creator alternatives, so here's what I built out of set 5763. In the photo, hot-rodder sigfig is added for scale and reference). Features: ► minifig scale (with adjustable steering wheel) ► openable and adjustable canopy-cage with roll bar ► rear suspension (individual for each wheel) ► details such as engine with radiator and twin turbo, lights, steering wheel, twin exhaust and rear view mirrors Browsing through OLX (online marketplace fo classified ads) I found old (2011), used 5763 for a price of a new small, ~50 piece set. I liked how the set contained big wheels and offered possibility to build suspension, so I bought it right away. Only one super-cheap plate was missing, so it was a nice deal. The MOC Alternative uses almost every part from the set. As you can see, the build came out quite clean:

[MOC] Dune Jumper
TechnicRCRacer posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi, Presenting my next MOC: Dune Jumper! It is completely manual, with HOG steering and front and back independent suspension. It was originally intended to be a supercar, but I ruined the back, and I thought "Just stick with it, it might end up OK". I think that it ended up better than I expected! Here are more photos: I will probably not create instructions unless requested. Your opinions are appreciated! -
A racing car-like model created for a stop motion that never was. The idea was born out of creating a vehicle with uneven wheel base widths (because of limited parts) and the colors are lime green because those were the parts on hand. The Power Miners stickers actually work towards the model's design in my opinion. The model was reproduced in MLCAD (without stickers) and will be submitted to Rebrickable as well. The windscreen is on a double hinge which allows it to open up despite limited space. The rear compartment is also hinged to allow access to the engine. The car has both front lights and rear lights (on the MLCAD version). Unfortunately, no rear bumper is a weakness of this design. EDIT: I'm also putting a dark blue version of this racecar on rebrickable with pieces that are marginally less rare and (hopefully) less expensive to procure. It looks like a Batman car (whoops :{ )

Compact Independent Suspension with Servo Steering
1nxtmonster posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
A little video showing a suspension concept: The suspension is tatra-style, not double wishbone. But it is simple and works well enough for my needs. Uses the lego rubber pieces in the place of shock absorbers to save space, and can be built onto a servo motor with as little hassle as possible. I am pleased that the pivot points are all aligned such that the wheels do not steer themselves when the suspension is actuated. Overall a neat concept that I hope to incorporate into my future small-scale MOCs.- 11 replies
