    [MOC] Droideka

I had actually built these over a year ago, but it just hit me today that I never posted them online. I was aiming to find a balance between something that's close to minifig scale, albeit without sacrificing detail and functionality. It was the advent of part 26047 Plate, Modified 1 x 1 Rounded with Handle that enabled me to build these so that the front legs can rotate inward when switching to the rolling mode. I have six completed droidekas that I decided to pose at different angles alongside a B1 and B2 battle droid for reference. I will provide a parts list and breakdown if requested.

    [MOC] Droideka at Minifig Scale

At the end of 2016 I built this detailed Droideka out of Lego, Brickarms, and Brickforge parts. Droideka by Detroitika, on Flickr The only modified parts are the tips of the blasters. They used to be an old dark gray antenna which I received broken in a garage sale lot. I cut it into four equal lengths and drilled a hole in each. No other Lego, discounting some cut flex tube, was harmed. I tried to build an interior like the Trade Federation ship from Episode I., but tried to light the picture like the interior of The Invisible Hand (Grievous' ship) from Episode III. Hope you enjoy!

    [MOD] Building a better Droideka

Destroyer Droids have been curiously inaccurate in the way they have been portrayed in LEGO sets. Specifically, the weapon arms are attached in the wrong place, which I feel removes some of the menace of these rapid-rolling, Republic-resistant droids. Originally. LEGO had their blasters mounted on the droids' bases: The 'actual' droids had their blasters mounted on arms emerging from their shoulders (link to Google image search), which I sought to recreate. Various arm iterations were required to not only mount the weapons in the correct place but to correct the other crucial problem with the original, namely that the blasters could only be pointed off into space, not aimed at anything at ground-level. After a lot of clipping, I finally found a solution that captured the look to my liking: The blaster-pairs aren't horizontal, as in the films, but this was a compromise I was willing to settle for. Arms done, the body needed just a little work and the intimidation grew: This is getting much closer to the droid I'm looking for: It even rolls better: After completing these improvements, I went looking for other people's work on these wonderful droids and particularly like the work done to extend the brown curve around the droid's back, further enhancing their accuracy. Having said that, many of the modified droids still suffer from not being able to aim the blasters in three planes. One thing that isn't widely used, and which I did particularly want to keep, was LEGO's use of the two barrel pistol/binocular combo. It was introduced way back in 2011 for Alien Conquest as the ADU weapon-of-choice (the theme closest to my heart, despite them being no match for Droidekas) so it is a shame that it didn't find its way into the 'hands' of Star Wars' Destroyers until 2015's 75092. Thank you for taking at look at my minor MOCing, and please forgive a newbie's photographic setup...!

    [MOC] Droideka Mk II

Decided to design a droideka, though the Mk I seemed to be done a lot, the Mk II hasn't! Lore: Like the Mk I the Mk II was still very vulnerable when it was moving, though when deployed it was far more lethal! Not only difference in appearence compared to previous types, it had very different capabilities. Being able to switch between high fire rate blaster cannons, and powerful ion cannons, these droidekas where very capable in taking out both infantry and vehicles. Still using a built in shield generator, made defeating these Droidekas very hard. This is how it looks from the back A size comparison to a B1 Battle droid Not as impressive as some of my larger builds, but it looks a lot like the real thing. And yes I know the "feet/claws" are quite off but these are temporary because the real ones couldn't be rendered. And I "suspect" it is very well capable to roll up as a ball... kinda. Please leave your thoughts down below.

    [SoNE Ep. 7] War Hammer

When all seems to be lost, ISB Agent Goatm An 46-1 dives into action. Lord Tyrus fires furiously into the overwhelming Rebel forces to provide cover fire. Officer VeR is in position to take out the Rebel's main weapon. As he blindly leaps over the edge of the icy gorge, Goatm quickly assesses the situation below... A Rebel officer presents an obvious target, but Goatm will need to save his blaster for the Rebels outside of his hammer's reach. The taun taun mounted Rebel will need to be removed from a distance, the gorge is too tight to outmaneuver the beast. Officer VeR still hasn't taken out the cannon; this could be a problem... Past scene... Goatm's favorite blood-stained hammer has been with him from the very beginning on Naboo, his families adopted planet. Goatm's father, Kalib Ritter von An had fled to Naboo with Goatm's mother when her father refused their marriage. She was royalty and he a lowly knight with a dubious past. On Naboo, Kalib joined the Naboo Royal Space Fighter Corps and worked as a carpenter. He regularly grumbled about the royalist system, managed economy, and interventionist politics of the Naboo elites. As Goatm grew older, he apprenticed under his father and was soon trusted with the sale and delivery of his father's creations. Goatm's father was too hard-nosed to politely deal with the entitled customers who desired his products, but Goatm had a humble tact with the clients that proved very useful to the family's prosperity. This continued on into Goatm's teenage years, until the Separatist invasion in 32 BBY. Kalib was quite sympathetic to the Separatist cause until the Trade Federation blockade. Despite being a former knight and volunteer pilot, Kalib An was a stanch believer in the non-aggression principle. While these Separatists should be free to leave the Republic, they had no right to enforce a blockade. Kalib prepared his family for the worse. Their home was already on the edge of a large conservation zone and Kalib had secured a tunnel exiting there. This was done early on in case the family had been found by Goatm's vengeful grandfather. On the day of the invasion, Goatm was sent into town to purchase more supplies with the remaining currency and wares the family had. Few on Naboo took the blockade seriously and Kalib's furniture sold at a premium because of the lack of off-world competition. Goatm hurried home as the invasion began. His mother and sister would already be into the tunnel and Kalib would be heading for his N-1 to fight back the invaders. Kalib didn't make it to his starfighter. Their home was swarming with droids. Apparently the Naboo government had been collecting records on its citizens for a long time and the data was not as secure as the bureaucrats thought. Kalib was quickly identified and targeted as a possible threat to the droid occupation. Goatm rushed in to see Kalib dying in front of their home; hammer in one hand. His father couldn't speak. He just bled out and died. Goatm would go on to lead a cell in the Naboo Resistance, tracking down collaborators and dispatching them with extreme brutality, often with his father's hammer. Goatm's mother and sister shunned Goatm for what he had become and once the occupation was over, they returned to his grandfather's court and Goatm embarked for new adventures in the Outer Rim. The story continues... Rescue Mission by Commander Beltar Med Evac by goatman461 1/5/15 Edited to include links and bonus pic showing the collaboration with BEAVeR.
  7. A few months ago I started a MOC for the Hothbricks vignette contest, where the goal was to create a 16x16 (with variable dimensions) vignette of a scene in the Star Wars universe. I planned to make a MOC of the very first scene of TPM (it could actually be the third scene, I don't remember, who watched that movie? ) But I was a few days too late comleting it, so taking pictures took me some more time than usual Here are some of my favorite pics of it: "Master, you were right about one thing: these negotiations were short" - Obi-Wan Kenobi - Some pics without minifigs & all the action I tried to recreate the scene as accurate as possible. everything is there I think, I used reference pics from this site. floor pattern gravity-attached. hinged walls wriction-attached, they sit quite well. For this, I also liked to make a quite symmetrical and not all that awful back those technic liftarms are to keep the bricks between the arches together, they are quite stressed The neck brackets are there to hide the half-stud gabs Droideka: First I wanted to make a realistic design for my droideka, but then I realised there are already some pretty good designs online, I decided to make a more simple design, trying to improve TLG's awful design from the battle packs, while using only parts from that set and common parts. I came up with the left one, I think I did a pretty good job. But when I saw Lars' design, I just had to borrow his technique for the head just for this. More & bigger images in my Flickr I hope you like it just as much as I enjoyed building it! C & C welcome! --if you see some mistakes in my English, I will appreciate it if you would drop me a PM! Then I can edit them. -- comments to improve my photography are also appreciated

  9. The ability for the Droideka to use it's characteristic rolled up position is sadly under appreciated by LEGO. For me that's one of the key features and just as important as an intimidating attack pose. For some reason the developers of the official versions got way too hung up on recreating the three feet and the round shape at the bottom, leaving out almost any other aspect of accuracy all together. Now I've returned to an old mission of mine. Trying to create the minifig scale Droideka I've always dreamt of. Please let me know what you think of the result. More pics and a part list photo at my flickr.

    [MOC] Droideka

This is my rendition of the classic Droideka (Destroyer Droid) seen in The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones. LEGO's most recent incarnation was a disappointment, but my model here is meant to do justice to the droids. It can easily roll up and is highly detailed. It has 40 pieces. This is the backside.
