  1. One thing I really like in Technicopedia is the groups of models in the same categories. They demonstrate how Technic models have evolved over time, and how different building techniques are used to create the same type of model. One deficiency of the groups, though, is that they don't take B models into account. And since Technicopedia has come to a stop, the updates in the groups stop too. So I decided to start this thread. It is intended for a number of reasons: - Sharing model comparison pictures. And not just models, but subassemblies also. As demonstrated below, I'll share the comparison between various undercarriages. - Browsing and requesting model comparison pictures. - Charting the evolution of Technic models. And since I own a number of B models in addition to A models, I can meet some requests related to B models as well. I take pictures with my phone, so they are not of the highest quality. And I don't have specialized plain background, so a number of objects may find themselves in the pictures. Please excuse me for that. Besides, if there is any other angle that you guys want to see, please request.
  2. Once I got a veird idea to compare the exisiting "mid-scale" cars to see how they match (or don't in size, wheelbase and other dimensions). Here is the result of overlaying the folloeing cars: 42093 Chevrolet Corvette 42098 "Fake Chevrolet Camaro" 42123 McLaren Senna 42138 Mustang Shelby GT500 I used the front-left wheelarch (panted in red) as an anchor and that is what I get: The biggest surptise for me was that Senna is not that low as may look like - its roof is even the higest one. Only "Fake Camaro" is higer, but due to lifter rear axle. Another discovery - the rear overhang of Shelby GT500 (I saw it as disproportionally short) is just only 1 stud shorter than McLaren's one Corvette's front overhang appeared only 1-stud shorthet than McLaren's "nose" And now the wheelbases: early-built Chevrolettes shares the same wheelbase, than +1 stud longer goes Shelby and once again +1 stud longer goes McLaren
  3. Soon after I've got my 42100, I decided to use it for making something epic and funny. So, after a month of work I've made this "movie" which tells a story about the last battle between old and new. Don't take it too serious, just have fun! P.S. Moral of the story is that the winner hasn't won at all. Cos' all the fallen gained an ability to be revived into different models and live forever, but the winner will stay useless and untouched. :)
  4. I finally had time to play with the Powered Up elements from the new Train sets. They surely don't represent the complete PU system yet, but we can draw a lot of conclusions from them:
  5. Hello! :) There'll be a lot of reviews of new Elves sets soon, but I think it can't be too many of them anyway :) So I decided to make one again! I've build beautiful Aira's Airship of Elves 2017 and here's some pictures of it. Hope you like it too :) Overall impression reminds me split of two amazing sets from first wave - Naida's Adventure Ship and Pegasus Sleigh with all that fancy-styled details and pleasing color scheme. Ant that's great! Play features became less peaceful: while only weapon of team of Andventure ship was frying pan, heroes of new story have boomerang and disc shooter, and little goblin with flying backpack looks more menaceful than sea shell or little dragon's house :) Most intriguing part of the main building for me was wing mechanism. It have a lot intresting joints, even gear mechanism that keeps wings in raised position. Movement is enough tight, it's not very light and smooth, and needs a little effort. But anyway I really liked that it adds technic building expirience. Intresting parts: lots of gold makes happy my inner magpie! :D Book with air symbol is my favorite item here! I like Aira most of all characters, so I glad that here's new stuff with her symbols. Boomerang is also nice weapon for an intelligent character. Map is classical feature of this series. All theese pretty items may be storaged in pantry of the airship! Also there's box with ammo for disc-shooter. Goblin's fliyng box. I can't find out how this bolts shoot :( When I press them as shown in istruction, they just falls down, may be I make it wrong way. But I don't mind it, because I like boxes :) The goblin himself looks like an desperate person that can bring a lot of troubles for elves! :) And here's comparisions :) New amulet also fits good to regular lego minifig. There were two amulets on one mould, like golden keys from other sets. This old and respectable guy is honored to show it to you! :) (it's only minifig that saved from my former collection) Comparision with Naida's Adventure Ship from 2015. Three Airas! And last picture - Aira's airfleet, of Elvendale Airlines inc. =) Also here's my jetbike moc :) Thanks for watching! I hope this will attract more intrest for this beautilul series!
  6. Comparison between 75121 Imperial Death Trooper and 75523 Scarif Stormtrooper. Photos are from Brickset. Notice the high level of detail these both have. The Death Trooper is on the left; the Scarif Stormtrooper on the right. Note: As "Shoretrooper" and not "Scarif Stormtrooper" is the accurate name for these troops, I will henceforth refer to 75523 as a Shoretrooper. Boxes: Both are $24.99 (or $44.99 in my region), but the Death Trooper has 105 pieces; the Shoretrooper only has 64. Therefore, the Death Trooper easily wins in terms of value. First, we shall compare their helmets. Both are amazingly detailed and enormously accurate, but the Shoretrooper has a better helmet in my opinion, as all the little dots representing battle damage are superb. Chest pieces! Both look really good and detailed, but I just slightly prefer the Death Trooper's because you can add and remove the pauldron. Speaking of pauldrons, it's time for the comparison of the pauldron and the faulds! Both look really good, but the Death Trooper's pauldron has more printing and has the bonus of 3 printed tiles which can be attached, so I think the Death Trooper's pauldron wins. However, it must be said that the Shoretrooper's faulds are really great too. Time for the legs! Shoretrooper wins this one. More printing on the lower leg panels, plus the addition of the great plastic faulds. One thing I do not like about them both is that they use dark grey feet extensions. Surely they could be made in black and brown? Another noteworthy thing is that the Death Trooper has 3L beams in his legs to cover up the holes, the Shoretrooper does not. Time for the Weapons! The Death Trooper has two weapons: A blaster and a pistol. The Shoretrooper has a double-barreled E-22 blastser. Both look really impressive, and thus I think it is a tie. The Shoretrooper's gun is more detailed than the Death Trooper's gun, as it has two shooting functions (missile AND stud shooter) plus a blue rangefinder on the side! However, the Death Trooper has the advantage of two weapons, minus the fact that the pistol doesn't look too good in his hand. The pistol can be clipped to the side of the Trooper's leg, however. VOTE TALLY: Value = Death Trooper Helmet = Shoretrooper Chest pieces = Death Trooper Pauldron vs Faulds = Death Trooper Legs = Shoretrooper Weapons = TIE Overall, the Death Trooper wins in my book, but only narrowly. Which do you prefer?
  7. Today I will be comparing 75003 A-wing Starfighter (2013 version) with 75175 A-wing Starfighter (2017 version). First, here are the descriptions. 75003: 75715: I will be comparing them in aspect by aspect. Playability: 75003: 4x Flick-fire missiles, Opening cockpit, 1x landing gear 75175: 2x Spring-loaded shooters, 2x rotating cannons, Opening cockpit, 3x Landing gear, Rebel Maintenance service cart with detachable accessories and ladder. While 75003 does have firing weapons and basic ship equipment (like opening cockpits and landing gear), 75175 definitely has much more, including well-integrated spring-loaded shooters. Winner: 75175 Accuracy: 75175 is definitely more accurate than 75003 (one of the pros of newer sets), as the rear flaps are definitely thinner, using a new molded piece, as opposed to 75003's brick built ones. Also, 75175's engines are more accurate when compared to 75003's. The only portion that 75003 is more accurate than 75175 is that the greebling in between the engines is more realistic to the movie than 75175, as 75003's greebling is completely grey, while 75175 has some yellow highlights. Winner: 75175 Value Many have criticized 75175 for being similar in size to 75003, yet costing £20 more. However, believe it or not, closer inspection yields the opposite. 75175 has 358 pieces and costs £44.99, amounting to 12.6 cents per piece. 75003 has 177 pieces and costs £24.99, amounting to 14.1 cents per piece. However, due to the fact that the size of the ships are so similar, and 75175 only comes with a small rebel maintenance cart to try to justify the value, I consider 75003 the winner in this aspect. Winner: 75003 Minifigures 75003 has an A-wing pilot dressed in dark green, Han Solo who only otherwise appears in Ewok Village, and Admiral Ackbar who only appears otherwise in 2009's Home One. 75175 has an A-wing pilot dressed in normal green, Lando Calrissian who is exclusive, and a generic Rebel Technician who is also exclusive. While 75175 has all-exclusive minifigures and a new Lando Calrissian, 75003 has two named characters (Han and Ackbar) as opposed to 75175's one (Lando) and thus, 75003 takes the cake. Winner: 75003 Displayability: Overall, 75175 has better displayability than 75003. This is due to the fact that it is more accurate, and the shooters are better integrated in 75175 (under the front portion) than in 75003 (used instead of guns). Also, the little rebel maintenance cart helps to finish off a little display scene. Winner: 75175 Time to tally scores! Playability: 75175 Accuracy: 75175 Value: 75003 Minifigures: 75003 Displayability: 75175 Overall winner: 75175 Hope you enjoyed this comparison! VaderFan2187
  8. Today I bring to you another of my comparisons: 7667 Imperial Dropship VS 75165 Imperial Trooper Battle Pack! 7667 Description: 75165 Description: Minifigures 7667: 75165: 75165 Imperial Trooper Battle Pack has 2 Death Troopers and 2 Stormtroopers; 7667 Imperial Dropship has 1 Shadow Stormtrooper and 3 Stormtroopers. 75165's minifigures are definitely more detailed than 7667's ones, but hey, it did come out 9 years after 7667. I personally prefer 75165's minifigures because I prefer Death Troopers over a Shadow Stormtrooper, but this may vary due to personal preference. As both have good minifigures for their time, I call it a tie (no pun intended ). Points: 7667: 0.5 points. 75165: 0.5 points. Looks I favour 75165 over 7667 as it has the more classic and accurate grey color, compared to 7667's mess of black, light grey, and blue. Also, 7667's cockpit is hideous and unfinished. Points: 7667: 0 points. 75165: 1 point. Playability 7667 has a very nice Troop Deploying function, but its other features are significantly lacking. The cockpit is terribly placed and sometimes breaks off when attempted to be opened. Also, its weapons storage is nowhere near as sophisticated as 75165. Also, 75165 has posable legs, rotating and firing cannons, and stud shooters, which, despite being maligned by many, do add playability to the set. Thus, 75165 wins in playability too. Points: 7667: 0 points. 75165: 1 point. Value 7667 retailed in 2008 at $9.99 with 81 pieces, so its value is 12.3 cents per piece. 75165 retails this year (2017) at $12.99 with 112 pieces, so its value is 11.6 cents per piece. Yet again, 75165 wins. Points: 7667: 0 points 75165: 1 point Total scores: 7667: 0.5 points 75165: 3.5 points 75165 wins against 7667. But which do you prefer?
