  1. I recently learned that in the general figure collecting world, it is well-known that most plastic bags are bad choices for long-term storage of figures. What happens is a lot of plastic bags, especially the ones for food, are not designed for long-term storage. A lot of them contain acids. In time, entropy does its job, and the plastic decomposes, releasing fumes. In sealed bags, this can cause damage to figures. Now, I've heard a solution is to poke holes in the bag to allow the figure to be ventilated, but I find this to be useless, since I am also trying to protect my minifigs against humidity and mold. It seems that the safest way is to get polypropylene bags, which are designed specifically for collectibles and are the ones used in bags for comic books. I found that info here: http://www.mhtoyshop.com/storing-your-loose-action-figures/ My question is, does anyone know if Lego figures are as susceptible to this kind of damage as regular figures? If that is the case, I have hundreds of little baggies to replace...
  2. After a lot of work I'm happy to present you: LEGO Part Manager - Version 1.0 This program helps you managing your currently displayed models and your other "ready to build" parts. It's able to calculate, which of your parts can be used in new builds. Description / How to use it If you start the program for the first time it will show you kind of a login page. There you need to enter your Rebrickable API Key (Go to your profile page, click settings and get your API Key) and User Hash, which you can generate here. After pressing the "Connect" button you can see all your set lists and part lists. All pre-selected lists are used in your normal Rebrickable build calculations. When clicking the "Download selected" button the program starts downloading all the selected items. This may take a while and in the mean time the program does not react fast, because it is busy... (Should change with the next versions.. ). When the download is complete, you can input all your displayed Sets / MOCs on the display tab. Please use the same MOC number as on Rebrickable, otherwise the program can't find the MOC. Take an example from the image and screenshot below... After downloading the sets, it will also show up the names. Now you can go to the build tap, where you can input the Set / MOC you want to build. After pressing "Calculate", it could look like so, then you have all the needed parts in your parts collection. If you are missing some parts, it looks similar to that. The file "NeededParts.csv" could be upload to Rebrickable as a private MOC, in order to see the part images or whatever... Current version: 1.0 - from 18.09.2016 (See change log below) Download program (.exe) here. Take a look into the source code here. You can compile your own version of this program on any operating system (Linux, Mac) since it's written completely in Pascal. Features Imports set lists and part list from your Rebrickable account Build calculations only with unused parts Change the display / set lists always possible Uses the Rebrickable .csv format for further use of the file It's Open Source Limitations / Bugs No name based search, you need to input the correct set / MOC number GUI needs some updates... Works only with the Rebrickable API, no other part sources... Also need to add more comments in the source code Changelog Version 1.0 - 18.09.2016 Initial release I hope that at least a few people are going to use this program and providing ideas for further improvement. Thanks for reading, Dave

    The Bridge Battle display

Having recently bought the Spider-Man Bridge Battle set, I thought it would be amiss not to display it and make a chaotic diorama out of it. IMG_9275 by J G, on Flickr I'm not much of a MOCer (at least not anymore), so there's not much modification apart from the Sandman's 'sand hands', taken from that awful Sandman/ Rhino set. IMG_9282 by J G, on Flickr I'm glad the bridge comes with a birds nest on top, so I could make this lame joke with the Vulture. IMG_9292 by J G, on Flickr Ben Reilly's having some trouble keeping this taxi out of the water below, though his troubles are far from over. IMG_9285 by J G, on Flickr Whilst Spider-Girl faces off against the Scorpion and Kraven, Deadpool follows in the footsteps of the Great Oily Lord Ainsley Harriott and gives his meat a good old rub. IMG_9280 by J G, on Flickr Here is an under-shot of the entire thing. I had a lot of fun putting this together, and I can't recommend this set enough. 4. So I just wanted to list my top 5 favorite clone troopers in my collection currently... Please post yours so I can get your opinions. Thanks for viewing my topic~~~~~~~ NUMBER 5: 442nd Sieze Batallion Trooper (7260) I don't know why, most likely since I grew up with these in my child hood, but I am quite the sucker for classic, older clone troopers. I love this one for that reason, and it's unique color scheme. NUMBER 4: Captain Rex (7675) I love captain Rex for his rare blue color scheme, as the 501st was the only official group to wear blue. It is also kind of cool to hold an iconic piece of clone royalty. NUMBER 3: 327th Star Corps (7655) I love this one for it being yet again original. And as it is one of the oldest kind of clones in my collection. I also used to think this was Obi Wans 212th. However, that was when this came out NUMBER 2: Commander Fox(7681) This clone is totally awesome for perhaps the most elaborate detailing on any clone. It has so much detailing, though I was never a fan of CW figures, I have to include this one for its pure awesome. And as I have a crazy high detailed clone trooper at 2, 1 is the polar opposite NUMBER 1 Clone Trooper (4482, 7163) The oldest clone... This one has by far my favorite kind of helmet and armore, for being the "real" phase 1 clone trooper. This is THE clone trooper, the predecessor and birth giver to everyone's precious clones today. I have a large quantity, and I love these for their originality, and rarity. Thanks with much Lego love, Jedi Master

  6. What is the best way to organize a large bucket full of minifigures? I need a way to quickly be able to find them, see how many of each type I had, and keep them from losing their parts and pieces. I'd looked at many people's minifigure display projects using wooden frames, custom made Lego cases (often using baseplates glued to a wall mount), and even Lego's official display case. However, each of these required too much money, time, or space to fully display my 400+ collection of minifigures. After some experimentation, I put together my own display option which I hope will benefit other builders who can follow this model. Using 2 by X plates (2 x 6, 2 x 16, 2 x 8 etc) and double stacking them in an overlapping arrangement, I was able to build a light way minifigure display frame. I picked up a lot of the strings with bricks on the ends from the Kings Castle set from the last castle run. It was a simple enough build I put together a wall of several frames and grouped my minifigures by theme. This made it very apparent (for planning purposes) how many of each theme I could muster to my castle armies or my pirate invasions. These work fairly well but I have found a few problems: I quickly ran out of plates to make more and now I won't be building anything requiring lots more plates For those people who are strictly into collecting, this isn't enclosed so the minifigures will get dusty over time I have a bunch of mismatching frames (black, grey, and dark grey). I have a couple more pictures here on my project page if you are interested. There I show how some of the minifigures with dresses or abnormal legs can also be displayed this way. All that being said, what do you think? Any suggestions? Why would you build a few of these over the enclosed versions or would you?
  7. Here's a thread to post anytime you've added minifigure(s) to your collection. I just got Homer Simpson from The Simpsons Series 2

  9. Hi all, While building, I recently found out that my collection has diminished due to scattered, lost, broken parts and such, as well as my selection getting old, with 90% of "old" basic and semi-specialized bricks (dirty colors, plates, wedges, etc.) VS 10% of "new" bricks (fresh color, brackets, cheese slopes, tiles, etc.). Although I can still manage to find a way to build what I want, I've been facing a wall more and more while creating stuff. I often feel "part limited". Sometimes I don't have enough of a certain part (e.g. 4 light gray tap parts), sometimes it's in a limited palette (e.g. I have 1 pink brick in my entire collection), or I want the part/color and I don't have it at all. It results in sometimes mismatching colors in a MOC when I don't have enough parts of the same color. In some situations, I want to try new techniques but I don't have the parts required. In others I want to make a rock landscape but I don't have enough slopes... My vision can't be brough to life... And is it frustrating! Every so often I want to reboot my entire collection and buy 1000$ worth of bricklink parts! Did you ever see that wall? Do you feel part limited? If so, at what point (e.g. 20 white 1x1 tiles isn't enough for me anymore) and in what situation (e.g. I want to use new SNOT techniques but I don't have any brackets)? What do you do then? Do you enter a rage and punch your MOC? Do you think outside the box and find another solution? Do you empty the Bricklink stores? Do you quit LEGO? (...)

    Hello You

Hi everyone, I'd like to introduce myself as (one more) huge Lego fan. I'm a bit old (42!!) but I played a lot with Lego when I was a kid. I still have a huge collection (at my parent's house, somewhere...). Now I just play electronicaly, because I have no time and room to buid the actual bricks. I put my creations on Lego Ideas website, under 2 or 3 different nicknames. Anyway, they are all here: http://www.rogerweikers.com/bside/pages/08.htm I'm from Brazil, living in Sao Paulo at the moment (I'm from Rio) and I also lived in London (UK) for a couple of years. Thanks :-) Cheers
  12. ... to become worthy of listing for insurance purposes, or for listing in a will? We were discussing the extent of the ever increasing boxes of Lego, this weekend, when the subject of value came up. After the numbers started adding up, and up, the subject of insurance was raised. Would an insurance company believe us, AFOL's, in the event of a not insignificant claim? Or should we be listing everything now, before we end up having to find out? So, I thought I'd ask the EB community a few questions: Do you have your Lego insured? If so, is it specifically listed with your insurer? More morbidly, has anyone specifically mentioned Lego in a will or similar legal document? Might make an interesting poll at some point too.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Hi all, I figured that instead of hijacking everyone's threads with similar questions about modulars, to just create one thread where people can ask questions and the like. This way we are not junking up specific topics with questions about multiple modulars. I look forward to the discussion with everyone! ------------------------- :-: For Reference :-: We have had the following: Cafe Corner (CC) Market Street (MS) Green Grocer (GG) Fire Brigade (FB) Grand Emporium (GE) Pet Shop (PS) Town Hall (TH) Palace Cinema (PC) Parisian Restaurant (PR) Detectives Office (DO) Brick Bank (BB) Assembly Square (AS) Downtown Diner (DD) Corner Garage (CG) Bookshop (BS) Police Station (PS) Boutique Hotel (BH) Jazz Club (JC) Natural History Museum (NHM) The unique business's that have come out of those modulars are: Apartment (MS) Apartment (GG) Apartment (PR) Apartment (DO) Apartment (AS) Apartment (CG) Apartment (PS) Art Gallery (BH) Art Studio (PR) Bakery (MS) Bakery (AS) Bank (BB) Barbershop (DO) Book Store (BS) Cafe (CC) Cafe (AS) Dance Studio (AS) Dentist (AS) Department Store (GE) Detectives Office (DO) Diner (DD) Doughnut Shop (PS) Fire House (FB) Flower Shop (AS) Garage (CG) Gas Station (CG) Grocery Store (GG) Gym (DD) Hotel (CC) Hotel (BH) Jazz Club (JC) Laundromat (BB) Movie Theater (PC) Music Store (AS) Natural History Museum (NHM) Pet Store (PS) Photo Studio (AS) Pizzeria (JC) Police Station (PS) Pool Hall (DO) Recording Studio (DD) Restaurant (PR) Tailors Workshop (JC) Town Hall (TH) Town House (PS) Town House (BS) Veterinarian (CG)
  15. I recently got my old childhood collection back. I unboxed it yesterday and took some photos to share, if anybody is interested. If you have any advice or comments, feel free to post here. I have yet to sift through pieces. Everything seems to be packed up into these Ziploc bags and sorted surprisingly well. I think my mother must have done this. I have to say, it's so strange because my memories of my Lego collection are different from what is actually here. I remember us having repurposed paint buckets for our toys and the Lego was just kind of jumbled up in there, but what I unboxed here... it almost seems to be sorted by set, or at least theme. Who sorted this? I don't want to ramble on too long and bore you all, though. Anyway on with the photos. Here is a shot of everything together as it came out of the bin. Don't squint too hard, because I have other better photos with things grouped. DSC_0044 by ZeyaV, on Flickr I must admit, I had feared the worst. I was expecting everything to be a hopeless jumble, scratched up, abused. But I think we were pretty tame kids and my mom made sure we took care of our things. Rarely would we leave toys out overnight, and it would all go back in the bucket for storage. Sure, there are a couple plates and things here and there that are snapped. But by and large, this is in pretty good condition. Of particular note are the instructions. I would have bet these were long gone! I'm going to have to go through this over time, but these instructions are in good shape. A couple of the ones from way back that we inherited from our cousins are a little torn, but still usable. Again, don't squint too much/long at this photo, but here are all the instructions together in one shot: DSC_0030 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And here are the instructions laid out by theme. Pirates! My favorite theme, especially as an adult. DSC_0033 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And castle! Wow. There's quite a few large sets here. These were some really nice Christmas presents. I remember my big Christmas present at the bottom of my stack was almost always a big Lego set. Well one year it was an Erector set. DSC_0037 by ZeyaV, on Flickr Space! I'm fairly sure the classic space sets were my older cousin's, originally. I definitely remember the parts, such as the technic pieces that make a bendy thing and the brackets with side-facing studs, and the little rocket-like things that face down (usually used as missile cannons or something, hehe). The couple of Blacktron sets were mine though. DSC_0039 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And here are the other instructions for what Brickset terms "Basic", "Legoland", a Town racer set, and a McDonald's promo thing. Also 3 advertisement inserts that probably came from some of these sets. DSC_0041 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And two random Technic sets. DSC_0032 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And last item for the paper goods, the Lego Idea book. Inside, I found a sticker sheet, and one pristine sail from a Castle set. I think I got this when I was getting on the older side, maybe 12 years old, and I don't think I used this book too much. Hardcore video game phase. Spoiled brat. :/ DSC_0010 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0011 by ZeyaV, on Flickr Anyone know if those stickers came with the book? Edit: L@go confirmed that these stickers are in fact from the idea book. Okay, on to the gratuitous shots of bricks and elements. Keep in mind I'm just sharing photos at this point for anyone interested. I also want to say, this is going to be a long project for me to get these all washed and parted together. I'm thinking that 2013 and into 2014 are going to be light on the Lego purchasing for me. First up, here are all the baseplates (except maybe some very small ones): DSC_0042 by ZeyaV, on Flickr Those are 48x48 light gray baseplates. Do those even get made anymore? They're huge! Also, I'm not sure what the broken plate is on the far right, but it's got to be older, probably from my cousins. I have a dim recollection of snapping it in two as a kid. Lessons learned. On to bags of mostly Pirate stuff: DSC_0013 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0014 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0015 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0016 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0017 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0018 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And now onto Castle, which probably makes up 1/3 of all the bricks. So much gray. DSC_0019 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0020 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0021 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0022 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0023 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0024 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0025 by ZeyaV, on Flickr This is some of that Blacktron and other space stuff: DSC_0027 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And onto some more miscellaneous bags. This is mostly that Basic theme stuff, and I'm hoping the classic space is mixed in there too. DSC_0026 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0027 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0028 by ZeyaV, on Flickr DSC_0029 by ZeyaV, on Flickr And that's all the photos I took. Like I said, I have my work cut out for me. My mom liked to use moth balls, and that stuff stinks pretty bad. It's all going to have to get washed. I know there's a thread here somewhere on how to clean Lego, which I'll read up on again. I plan to wash everything (gonna have to be a dishwasher or clothes washer), and then try and put together every set. I figure some of the really old ones like the Sea Plane and Classic Space sets might be lacking some parts, for which I might turn to Bricklink if it's not too painful. I might also try my hand at writing some reviews for these sets, if that would be welcome. But overall, I'm pretty excited. It's going to be a lot of work, but it should be fun. So what do you guys think? Please share any advice or thoughts.
  16. Has anything like this ever happened to you? According to the Swedish news agency TT, a Lego collector in Halmstad, Sweden is to be compensated by the customs office in Sweden. He had bought an anniversary edition of some Star Wars set from Hungary, but when he recieved the supposed to be MISB item, it had been opened by the customs (in search of ripoffs maybe ). The market price was about € 200, but with the seal broken it's value is only about half as much. He will now be compensated with the difference in value... If I had been a collector and not a builder I suppose I would rather have had that MISB than the compensation. /Thomas
  17. Just wondering if there are more people who collect battle droids? At this point I guess, I whould have around 200 of them. Let me share you, some pic's a year ago. And here as they are right now:
