Here is the second small building I built for the Guilds of Historica display at Brickworld. Like my first house, it was placed on Kevin’s island. I have been wanting to use bright light orange for a thatched roof for some time, and finally got around to doing so with this model. Another contribution to the Ye Old Merry Battleground display. I had a lot of fun with this build, using tan and dark bley together, along with the red and dark red as accents. It seemed to fit Kaliphlin well, so here it is. I'll be posting my other YOMB builds in the Historic Themes soon. Ellena’s bakery is well known for her delicious pies, breads, and other baked goods. "Well good evening Zia," Ellena said as she set aside her rolling pin. "It is a peaceful night, a nice change from the recent wars and uprisings in the land. But I didn't come here to discuss politics, I wanted to buy 2 loaves of bread and a tray of cookies." "Certainly!" Ellena replied, "I have some that still warm, here you are." "Thank you! India Mill Chimney - Darwen, Lancashire India Mill chimney was the tallest and most expensive in England when it was completed in 1867. India Mill Chimney stands 303' in Darwen, Lancashire. The Lego version stands 5'6½". Back then, mill owners had more money than they knew what to do with ... so when they built their new mill, they'd want it build with fancier brickwork, a taller tower, etc, than the mill owned by another guy in the next town. This means that many of those old buildings were great architectural works of art. Many were demolished in the 1960s and 1970s, but fortunately not all were. The ones that remain are now listed buildings. India Mill Tower is a Grade II* listed building. This building had its debut at the Amherst Railway Show in West Springfield MA on Jan 30-31, 2016. This rendition of India Mill Chimney in Lego is the latest in my series of Real Life buildings. Detailed view of top: Close-up of the upper section showing detail in Lego & real-life. Note the bare brick top. When originally built, there was about 20 tons of ornate wrought-iron atop to crown the building nicely. This was removed during World War II to be melted down (along with railings from houses, parks and other sources) to be used in the war effort. My rendering brings a semblance of this ironwork back! Dear Journal, I returned to Uncle Byron's today, and he was delighted with the new plant variety I brought. However, he's now looking to find a rare crystal rumored to be found on the dangerous low islands. I've never ventured so close to the water before, and will need to use a smaller more maneuverable ship. ~Little John Another build based in the Isles of Aura, I'll be using this for my first build in the Odyssey category of the CBC. Uncle Byron's home and the stables both feature full interiors. And be sure to look through lots of pictures to see all the details. Credit to Graham Gidman for the edit job, thanks Graham! This model was the third place winner in Swebricks LEGO competition "The city we built". Here is (the badly translated) description I had for my model: "Businesses had been bad for Ragge Runarson in the increasingly desolate little town. Because of the current recession, sales had fallen drastically and all of his employees had to quit. It was with mixed feelings that he was standing at the window of the office building and looking out over his lifework. He remembers how he so happily rode to work every morning on his red bicycle. And he remembers the now broken cement mixer which he would use to finish cementing the walkway to the white cottage. Soon, however, there would come a person who was interested in buying the building, so then Ragge could start all over again!"
