    [MOC] Spyro the Dragon

Well, turns out I'm back with another MOC, but it's not of any old imaginary creature of the night, nor an alien race of chess pieces. It is, as the title suggests, none other than my favourite video game character ever. Spyro the Dragon! This in particular is based on his original Nineties game appearances (not Skylanders) which holds quite some nostalgia for me. I always wanted to build this little guy with Technic and CCBS bits, but sadly, not enough pieces exist in the right colours so, rather than my original intention to build this in real life, I had to resort to LDD. And here it is: Here's the stuff I wrote for the Flickr description: Having recently rediscovered all the old things I used to love as a child (from the Nineties), I recently had an overwhelming urge to build one of my favourite video game characters ever. Spyro the Dragon. This MOC is based on the appearance of classic Nineties Playstation 1 Spyro (not Skylanders Spyro, I wish classic Spyro would come back! Then I'd have a reason to buy a Playstation 4 ). Built in LDD (was going to be a real-life model until I realised the lack of purple Technic and CCBS meant the end result would look nothing like Spyro) and rendered using Bluerender. The model took about 8 hours to build. And as a little extra, I've also built his faithful companion Sparx the Dragonfly, in his full health colours. And, as with the Chess pieces which some of you may remember, I've also made a GIF spinnie. Click here to view it Anyway... positive comments, constructive criticism and butterflies for Spyro's companion Sparx all appreciated

Just some mods of my favorite Chima CCBS sets from both waves. I also made him look more bulky and gave him a tail and a longer trunk. http://www.brickshel...s/mungus001.jpg http://www.brickshel...s/mungus002.jpg http://www.brickshel...s/mungus003.jpg http://www.brickshel...s/mungus004.jpg http://www.brickshel...s/mungus005.jpg I had originally wanted to use Humongousaur's arm for a trunk for Mungus but it didn't look to good. Here is a picture of him with it though just to show how bad it looked. http://www.brickshel...s/mungus006.jpg Last up is Chi Razar His changes are giving him his hook hand. More purple. Bigger wings and a tail along with using Shadow Matoran feet for his talons. http://www.brickshel...ds/razar001.jpg http://www.brickshel...ds/razar002.jpg http://www.brickshel...ds/razar003.jpg http://www.brickshel...ds/razar004.jpg http://www.brickshel...ds/razar005.jpg http://www.brickshel...ds/razar006.jpg I had also made mods of all the other sets in LDD but do to a lack of the Chima Ultrabuild heads and chestplates. I'll only post the LXF files if you really want them. Comments and criticism appreciated
  4. Finally! After a long hiatus of not building anything (that collab project I did really did drain my creativity for a while afterwards ), I'm back with a new MOC. Though I may well have made it just to show off my latest rare acquisition... Kulta's mask in Pearl Gold! Surprise, surprise - it's another original creation Skull Villain from me. Skull Smasher, a hugely successful wrestler in his previous life during the age of Steampunk and given new life by "mysterious forces", is an eloquent brute who towers above even Kulta, and could "accidentally" squash a Protector underneath his feet and throw Toa around like they were a dog's chew toy. Even Kulta himself dares not underestimate Smasher's sheer power, as Smasher could crush Kulta in an instant in one of his huge hands. But don't think Smasher is all brawn and no brains or class. Smasher is incredibly vain as far as Skull Villains go. He never goes out without wearing his feather and velvet robes, held together with his lucky golden bone. Show him a mirror or give him a camera (he'll stop mid-fight and take a selfie of him crushing his victims) and you'll probably distract the titan enough to get past him... or land the killing blow on him. Selfies are dangerous things! Anyway, onto some full pictures then! An interesting side note: He got named "Smasher" not because of his giant hands, but due to the fact that I was listening to a lot of the rock band The Offspring while building him, and they have an album named "Smash". So there you go This is actually the first time I've ever tried to do something even vaguely Steampunk themed (though my second creation done in this sort of colour scheme, the first being my dragon, Golden Furious), so it's probably not perfect. Comments and obscure references all appreciated

  7. So, a lot of builders aren't really very keen with using G1 Bionicle parts with the CCBS. While that's fine and dandy, I just want to tease you with a little something I discovered the other week... Yep, Vorox armour works perfectly with CCBS bones with Technic holes! Connected with just one Technic pin, and kept stationary via it's own axle connector slotting into the bottom of the socket area of the bone, it's almost as if you have a brand spanking new CCBS shell! This Vorox can't believe his newly-revamped optics! Even if you're largely CCBS purist (like myself), I still think you should invest in some of these. They come in tan and brown like you see here, but also black and purple, and a 5 year money back guarantee! Lewis god dammit this isn't an infommercial please stop Give it a try!
  8. In your hearts, you know I'm right!! PSM Steve says, hell yeah! More arms is more better! Soooo these are two Skull Slicers, somewhat modified. I removed the arms gearing for a more solid skeleton. They're going to make decent aliens in my Classic Space universe, I've got a few mechs of roughly that size. They're also both works in progress - I'm really new to Bionicle, suggestions are welcome!

    Bionicle Toa Alternate Builds

So, RaySkull's "Bionicle Protector Alternate Builds" thread has proven to be pretty popular. So, I thought it'd be neat to have a similar thread, but for modified Toa! Feel free to share photos of your modified Gen2 Toa in this thread, along with relevant building techniques and ideas. So, I'll start this off by showing off my modified Lewa. This was made to answer mine and a friend's question of how Lewa would look with a transparent colour in his scheme. Push came to shove, and more changes were made! So yes, Talons! Those are inspired by some concept art for TMoL in which Lewa Nuva had talons, presumably for perching on tree branches. And the pink thorns? I wanted to emphasise Lewa's new-found control of plantlife in a unique way, but also wanted to break up the colour scheme a bit more. Oh, and his gearbox is a notch lower, so he can move his head. And now, some photos of him in adrenaline mode!

    Fire Shogun

I was originally gonna enter this guy in the contest, but then I remembered that he has a modified chestplate on him... So that's not happening. And I was so confident that he'd please the judges too, darn it! So, this is actually a pretty oldish MOC, which I recently disassembled. It was originally intended to serve as a revamp of Fire Lord, but it kinda suits it's own character. Hope you all like him! xoxo A couple more photos of him are on my Flickr - click the Bull below!

    Toa Kaita and Protector Kaita

Goodevening all, Me and my brother bought the new bionicle sets over a week ago (in the UK) and we have been really enjoying them, however we have been discussing the supposed 'combiners' that lego are currently using with the toa + protectors weapons. MOC: Titan Onua and Korgot

Titan Onua and Korgot Onua being one of the shortest of the Masters is quite the disappointment, especially seeing as he's portrayed as the tallest in the cartoons. So, I took the challenge of making Onua not only taller, but equivalently bulky, and along the way ended up making him Titan sized. I was really pleased with how he turned out, so I revamped Korgot so he has some company. 16. I've been wanting to recreate Generation 1 characters in CCBS for a while. The main problem was that I wanted to use the old Mata heads (so I could fit both old masks and krana), but conventional methods of attaching said head to a CCBS torso looked ridiculous. Solution? Build a new torso. First up is Bingzak Kongu, displaying the Matoran build: I partially used the Mask of Light movie as a guide when building these; it mostly influences the neck and the shape of the arms. Full skeleton in the first picture. The second shows where the chest plate attachment and neck socket fit. The black bracket piece doesn't connect to the socket directly but it keeps it from jiggling around much. Can't say I care for the back much, but it's not an eyesore. Next up is Narmoto Vakama with the Turaga build: The Turaga are a bit more broad and wide than the Matoran to accommodate the sockets for the legs. Vakama features his stole from Mask of Light. Full skeleton along with a better shot of how the front and neck joint connect to the rest of the torso, similar to the Matoran build. Shot of the back. This is the biggest problem with the Turaga build: it's very boxy. Adding the stole (connected by the four exposed studs) helps somewhat. The light bley pieces will be changed to black once I get ahold of some. "Back! Back you foul creature! One more step or I'll--" (Wrong villain, I know, but ssshhh. ) You can really see how the back sticks out here. Again, not a fan, but I don't currently have a solution. Bonus: Turaga Korgot Whenua! Giving him his hunch was as easy as connecting the neck to the back of the head instead of the eyestalk. He needs Dark Bluish Gray hands but those will have to wait until I get some. Thanks for looking! Comments and critiques are highly appreciated.
  17. Hey all! If any of you have been following my Flickr, you would have known this topic was coming from all the MOC's I've been posting there for the past few days But anyway, I present to you the fruit of my latest MOC project, codename CCBS, or Creepy Creeps from Below the Surface. Or basically, the Barraki but remade in CCBS (pause for inevitable groans). The Barraki have always been my favourite of all the Gen 1 villains, it's no secret. And Takadox will forever remain my favourite G1 character. So I thought it was high time I gave them a complete CCBS overhaul to celebrate that fact. It pretty much started by making a CCBS Takadox, but it soon escalated into me wanting to remake all the warlords in CCBS form. I wanted to keep as close to the original set's appearance as possible, down to replicating the limb lengths and colours in the right places, but doing that only using CCBS parts (aside from the head, weapons and sometimes the feet). A full gallery including alternate views of all models can be found here. So, without further ado, time for some pictures, complete with descriptions taken straight from Flickr: Takadox: Here is my favourite of all the Barraki first of all: Takadox! In some respects he is the hardest of the Barraki to replicate in CCBS, due to the only Dark Blue parts in CCBS being Skull Spider masks and zero Trans-Fluorescent Blue CCBS parts. I still really like how he turned out, even if he now wears Skull Spiders and has a lot of his Dark Blue replaced with Black. Pridak: Here's the second Barraki in the series: Pridak. Out of all the CCBS renditions, Pridak is probably the closest to his original set appearance, given his waist articulated torso translates very well into CCBS. I also tried custom built feet to try and replicate his original feet. I was going to use the original feet but then I saw the Protector feet on my Master Wu Dragon and immediately saw the similarities, so brick built them. Ehlek: Here is the third Barraki: Ehlek! He was originally my first Barraki set. This Ehlek is probably a bit bigger than his original incarnation due to using 2 CCBS bones instead of a Technic liftarm for his body (a technique I'd used on Takadox as well). I was going to use Ehlek's original feet for this, but I didn't have any in my collection so kinda had to settle for Beast feet given I couldn't find a custom solution I liked. Mantax: This is Mantax, who probably has the most unique build of the 6 and thus was a little challenge to get right. If you look closely, the shape of the original build is imitated in CCBS using a blend of Takadox's CCBS build and a 9x9 torso. This is probably one of my favourite of the builds as I think it almost perfectly replicates the original Mantax build. Kalmah: Here is Kalmah, the first of the two Barraki with a more standard humanoid build (or "the Inika build" as I so often see it termed). I have tried to replicate the general shape and colour segregation of the torso in the original set as much as possible here, even if it has resulted in Kalmah perhaps putting on a little bit of extra weight I probably would have put more dark red shells on the sides of the torso, but I ran out of dark red shells as Kalmah relies heavily on dark red in his colour scheme. Carapar: Finally, here's the last of the Barraki: Carapar. He was always the strong and armoured one out of the Barraki, so I made sure that was reflected in his CCBS iteration. The colour is perhaps the most difficult to get right, given that Carapar's marbled olour was uniqque to that set. I eventually settled with a combination of Pearl Gold and Keetorange, the Pearl Gold since it is the closest match to Carapar's head colour, and Keetorange because, well, he featured that colour in the original set. Carapar is also one of the few models I've made to incorporate a Technic function, pushing together two Technic bushes on his claw causes them to open, then the claw snaps shut when you let go. Well, hoped you liked looking at my renditions of Barraki in CCBS. Comments and constructive feedback will be much appreciated. Also, don't forget to throw in a vote for your favourite revamps in the poll (it's multiple choice by the way), and feel free to explain your choices in a comment
  18. Review: XSZ General Grievous Clone brands aren't usually very creative. Most will simply copy an official Lego design, others will create lackluster custom designs. But sometimes, there are diamonds in the rough. XSZ, a Chinese brand, usually make duplicates of official Hero Factory figures, but they also produce some custom CCBS designs, including those fascinating Ninjago Ultrabuilds. But what I recently purchased from them is something a lot of you may recognise from a CUUSOO project of old; A figure of Star Wars character General Grievous. In light of Lego's official Grievous figure's reveal, lets take a look at this other company's take on the four armed frenzy. Packaging Yep. A zip lock bag. I ordered two copies of the set (for reasons I'll discuss later), and they both came bagged up like this. However, I did choose to buy them without the boxes, as doing so cut down packaging costs to the point where postage was free. But, this restrained packaging did cause some issues. Parts Parts are where this kit really shine. As you can see, there is a plethora of CCBS bones, Technic parts and more. But what will catch most people's eyes is those tan shells. The tan does indeed match Lego's shade very well. However, brief warning about XSZ's shells - the peg holes on these are tighter than on Lego's, so softer pegs like those found on armour addons will get worn down when used in them. I'd only use harder plastic things, like T-Bars and older spike pieces, with these. Also, as you can see, the cape is severely creased. This is due to the restrained packaging. It's easy to fix, but terribly annoying either way. The torso and chestplate are fascinating. I'm not sure whether the tan details are painted or printed, but they really do look the business. While the chestplate's pegs are a little loose, it's still invaluable to have such a generically styled print. The head is probably the only major let down with this set. While the mold is great, the prints and sad eyes make for a very weird face to give to a villainous four armed warrior. However, there's an upside - the head connects to the model using a dark bley Glatorian head piece, which is absolutely fascinating and could serve to be very useful for many builders. Also very peculiar, these friction joints... Without the friction. While XSZ's sockets are pretty damn strong anyway, they still included a pair of these with this model. They're the same as Lego's... Just without the little rubber nubbin on the inside. Very odd indeed. Build Ignoring his worrisome face, Grievous looks very imposing, and is actually a lot of fun to build. The arms are well laid out, and give plenty of room for Grievous to swing his lightsabers (which are simply solid plastic dowels) around. The torso prints really shine when assembled with everything else, although I do feel like the gunmetal is a tad unnecessary. The legs are standard, but do the job of capturing Grievous's gait very well. From the back, Grievous is largely obscured by his big red cape. This thing is made from a very similar material to that of the older minifigure capes, but with one plushier side on the outside. The creasing caused by the packaging could likely be ironed out. Apologies for the haphazard photography here, but I just wanted to show off how Grievous's body is put together. The upper set of arms connect to this XT4 torso, and the cape is pegged on to two Technic connectors near the neckball of said piece. This works beautifully, and is also a nice, cheeky way of getting another XT4 torso to add to your collection. Other notes As I mentioned earlier, XSZ's socket joints are very sturdy - sturdier in fact than Lego's. There is a downside though: XSZ joints can only pivot to around 90 degrees in a hinge joint. However, using a Lego bone in an XSZ hinge is just as normal. The plastic quality is absolutely fine, although the bone pieces are more matte in texture that Lego's, and the Technic pins and axles are a lot more lightweight than Lego's. Again as mentioned, the peg holes in the shell pieces are much tighter than Lego's so it might be dangerous to use official armour addons with them. Pros and Cons Pros: Fun build Tan CCBS Great selection of parts Lovely cape Good looking, vibrant lightsabers Unique prints on the torso and chestplate Cons: The head is disappointing The capes are likely to come creased The lighsabers wobble somewhat The upper arms don't quite have as much motion as you might like So, does this General Grievous tantalise your taste for tan? Or will you be waiting for Lego's official kit, coming out this summer? Either way, you can find this set on AliExpress, with free P&P. I'd say that this is worth buying two of, so as to get lots of that amazing tan, but even one of these guys is still a grand selection of goodies to add to your CCBS collection.

    MOC: Karetao

Karetao Karetao was a powerful being from a bygone age of prosperousness and innovation. Well known for his invention dubbed “adaptive armour”, Karetao is revered by many as one of the greatest geniuses of his time. However, this great creator suffered a gruesome fate, when one of his creations, in a freak turn of events, rebelled against him and his team of scientists, killing them all. Karetao carried the powerful Staff of Lightning, another of his incredible inventions. Interestingly, it utilises the elemental power of Water to generate micro-vibrations in the moisture in the air, ergo generating heat and electricity. This incredibly potent tool was not only regal in design, but also extremely useful for Karetao in his work. He never revealed what the mask he wore was, or what powers it possessed. Front Back Skeleton, Front Skeleton, Back Skeleton, Upper Leg Pose Thoughts? EDIT: Please note that the blue size 4 shells on Karetao's shoulders are derived from a third party set, and are not yet produced by the Lego group. Apologies for any inconvenience.

    [MOC] Skull Ripper

(All pics link to Flickr) Function Video (5 seconds) I was realizing the day before yesterday that the 2015 Toa have one strategic advantage over the 2015 BIONICLE villains: none of the villains appear to be able to fly. So I thought I'd even the odds. Obviously, I had to use a few placeholder parts, but I still think it conveys the general idea I was going for. Skull Ripper includes 87 pieces total, and so I imagine she would hit about the same $15 price point as the other skull villains. Skull Ripper's torso features the same Technic function as Skull Basher's, but here it serves two very different purposes. From a standing position, it allows Skull Ripper to stab an opponent with her talons. In flight, it allows her to flap her wings. Ideally, I'd prefer Skull Ripper to use Tr. Blue instead of Tr. Light Blue, but from a practical standpoint I found that I had a more useful range of pieces in Tr. Light Blue. Thoughts, comments, criticism? Please share! This is my first MOC I've completed to my satisfaction in a few months, so I'm very proud of it, but I'm sure there's room for improvement!

    Bionicle 2015 Toa Mods

Thanks to some Bricklink orders that arrived today I can now show off my mods for the 2015 Toa One thing to mention with all of them except Onua. I built a custom torso since I didn't like the exposed ball joints on Tahu, Pohatu, Gali and Lewa. I didn't with Onua cause of his large chest piece. I won't show how its built until LDD updates. Till then feel free to guess how I built it. Also they all have silver armor save for Tahu and Kopaka's chest plates. I hope in later waves we get Silver Red or White printed chests for Tahu and Kopaka. [MOC] Muse's "Psycho"

A new MOC from me! If anybody really knows me or has paid attention to my signature or avatar recently, they should know I'm stark raving bonkers about Muse (a British rock band), and their recent new album got me inspired to MOC some stuff based on the promotional artworks for the songs. One such artwork is that for Psycho: It's basically a human possessed by a mind virus carrying a baby, and I thought it would make a pretty cool Constraction figure. And here's my result: A full gallery with some alternate views, poses and close-up shots can be found in this Flickr album. Yes, the mottled effect in the artwork is exceptionally difficult to achieve, and probably would have been a lot better in military colours, but since there isn't a wide range of green and olive shells out there, I just dissassembled Jetran'Rex and used silver and gunmetal instead. Comments, praise, constructive criticism, questions and stuff relating to the MOC are welcome. I think there are other places where the song and band that inspired this can be discussed Enjoy!
