  1. Willem Guilder, Admius Legistrad of Eslandola’s Colonial Council, could not believe that he was still in King’s Harbour, months after the Grand Ball. Living in a rented manor house, he now found himself working out of a room that had previously been a small chapel. Perhaps he should pray to return home, he mused to himself. Guilder had read through the latest news on the Prio situation. When all this had started a few months ago, it appeared to be a routine case of some pirates making off with the small Prio trade ship Palmetto. But then Prio had retaliated, sinking one of the pirates and capturing another. Bastion then detained two Prio ships in their port, claiming unpaid bar expenses by the crews. And now another Prio ship had been captured, this time the Prince Alex, flagship of the Duchy’s trade fleet. Eslandola naval reports advised traders to avoid the South Prio Sea if at all possible, and prominent Eslandola citizens were throwing fuel on the fire in both directions. As the director of a trade company, Guilder knew this sort of stuff was bad for business. Piracy is always part of the equation when sailing the seas, but an escalation wouldn’t help anyone. And while Lord Prio may have the right to feel aggrieved, he is not without blame and risks a fight that could send his fledgling nation into ruin. Balance needed to be restored. So Guilder sat down at his desk – a table, really – in his makeshift office in this rented manor house on a Corrish island miles from his Eslandolan home, and penned two identical letters: To Lord Alexander Prio, Grand Duke of Isle Romantica and Authorities of the Settlement of Bastion, and the Happy Bastion Barfly Club Dear Sirs, I have watched with much dismay these past months as your disputes at sea have inflamed passions throughout the region. I write to you in the hope that, as a third party outside the particulars of your encounters, I may offer mediation service to restore the Brick Seas to the status quo of some months earlier. As such, here are the details of my proposal: - The Prio ships currently detained in Bastion, the Peacock and Pearl, be allowed to leave port and return home. - The ship Palmetto be recognized as a legal prize, now property of the Sea Rats. - The status of the trade ship Prince Alex, as well as the status of funds owed in Bastion for actions of the Prio crews, be determined in a hearing to be held in a neutral location, judged by a panel of both Sea Rats and others. I offer this as a means of bringing hostilities to an end, while allowing both parties to plead their case and be heard. I anxiously await your replies. Humbly yours, Willem Guilder --- When finished, Guilder summoned one his personal guard into the makeshift office. “Sir?” inquired the Eslandolan swordsman. “I have letters here of the utmost importance. See to it that these go out on the fastest ships available heading to Alexport and Bastion.” “Bastion, sir? I’m not aware of any ships in port headed there.” “Yes, of course, you’re right. Well, then, I’ll have to charter one. Take this letter for Alexport and get it on its way. I’ll make arrangements for the Bastion letter myself.” “Very good, sir,” and the guard was off on his task. As Guilder got up from the desk, he thought to himself, “Maybe I’ll charter myself a ship back to Weelond while I’m at it…” ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ OOC: Leadership and the Sea Rats have agreed to resolve the Prio conflict with a good old-fashioned BoBS Build-Off! We’ll need builders for each side, exact number and subject of the builds still to be determined. Among the issues that will be decided are how much, if any, of the “bar tab” should be paid, and whether the Prince Alex should be awarded to the Sea Rats as a legal prize or returned to Prio. Details for the build-off will be posted as soon as they are finalized.
  2. Hi guys, I guess it's still the 25th somewhere on the dark side... of the moon So here goes, part II of Oleon's side of the build-off with Namere. Investigating “A fresh lemon scent.” That was all that the crew of La Recouvrance noticed when they arrived at their rendezvous point with Scimitar and Commerce de Breshaun. Nothing else. The ships were gone. Other crews had reported seeing a ship flying a changing set of flags, causing them to run, since only pirates would change their flags to unlawfully prey on ships. And several reports hinted at an involvement of the Namerians, so Granoleon decided to have the ambassador in Balmin launch an investigation. The Royal Court knew the Namerians were opposing any trade relations with the Marderians, and would offer letters of marque to anyone to interrupt trade routes. But there hadn't been any trade between Oleon and Mardier in years, so should the rumors of an Namerian involvement turn out to be true, seizing both vessels would have been an act of piracy, not to be justified by any letter of marque! So a private investigator was hired to shed some light on the mysterious disappearance of the two ships and Namere's role in this story. The investigator's first stop were the docks in Balmin. But so far he has had no luck finding any traces. But suddenly... could it be? A fresh lemon scent! It's a start. But will it lead somewhere? Thanks for watching C&C as always welcome! Vive le Roi!
  3. Part I: "Protecting her Majesty's Honour" Part II: *Link to be added later* Part III: "In her Majesty's Diplomatic Service" Montoya had gotten the dubious honour of delivering her Royal Majesty's response (not exactly soothed by the letters from the privateering captain) to the Carnite actions. As he arrived in the capital of Carno he was lead not the Royal Palace, but to the foreign office, where he was presented before an investigative jury. "Gentlemen, surely this must be a misunderstanding." Montoya said, after presenting himself. "There is nothing to investigate." "We assert no such conclusions, sir. You will present your case before this investigative jury, and we will decide where to take this issue" a man in fine crimson garments interjected, obviously the president of the jury. A juror dressed as a sailor chimed in. "And who is to say you did not fire the first shot?" "Why, your very own Captain Whoknowswho, my good sir, in his very public letters to my Queen." Montoya looked round at the shocked jury. "However, that skirmish was but a symptom of the wicked character of your foreign policy!" Pausing dramatically for a second continuing: "Your government has been issuing letters of Marque against Corlander shipping, a very harsh breach of the peace." A third juror threw his hands in the air, "There is no proof of this - and who is to say our ships were not threatened by your warships?" "Or pulled into an attack by a clever ruse" the last member of the jury shouted, spewing spittle, their contempt growing very obvious. Montoya took half a step back, wiped a speck of spit off his coat with an arched brow. "But sirs, you entirely misunderstand the situation. Corrington is not looking to negotiate but present you with our demands. Return the HMS Bullshark and its crew, cease all aggression against our shipping, and commit to pensions for those who lost their fathers and husbands in the battle, and we will consider this case closed." Montoya said in a firm voice, before furrowing his brow, "… should you fail to do so…" he looked to Cooke, who was obviously straining to keep his temper under control, before continuing "we are forced to consider the attack an act of war." The jury was taken aback, and Cooke observed with pleasure their surprise. It seemed the Carnites had hoped to push Corrington to strike a bargain, but now realised their mistake. ____________________ A sligthly higher angle to better show the interior. While a bit low on tiles and similar detailing bricks, I liked how this turned out. I had not expected those bows to work on both sides as well as they did, and I am certain to revisit the use of those. Good luck to all contestants - We shall see who made the best case.
  4. A brilliant idea! But that's not what she said... The King of Carno leaned back on his throne. It was a fine day, and the king had his mind running on a bunch of odd topics, including that of diplomacy. It seemed that his ambassador to Corrington had been quite worthless, and that really needed to be fixed. Suddenly it struck the King of Carno that an alliance with that nation would be just the thing to have, and that a perfect way to accomplish such an alliance would be to marry Queen Annette, who, however, he knew absolutely nothing about. Nothing daunted, the king leap off his throne and shouted for his horse. After riding over to Bellson in mad haste (he always did everything in such a condition), he alighted at the palace gate. "Queen whatever thy name beeth!" he exclaimed, bowing low, "it has recently popped into my head that, that, the fact is - in short, that I ought to get married. Your own worthy self instantly came to mind, and it is my great pleasure to present myself as your loyal servant, and to humble request your hand." Queen Annette looked bewildered for a second (which gave the king much hope of a good outcome) - however, she promptly ruined his dreams and smashed his aircastles by jumping out of the throne, and hurling her scepter at him. He looked up in surprise. "May I consider that a statement of your extreme willingness to share our kingdoms, and, perhaps to combine them into - let us see - Carnington?" he inquired in an elated undertone. The next moment he found himself flying through the air in a state of ejection from the polished doorways of the noble edifice, and he landed with a splat on the pavement below. The king looked around and shook his head. Suddenly recollecting his position, he leaped back onto his charger, and with only one hurried glance backwards, sped back to his capital - wishing, perhaps, that he had left things up to that useless ambassador. => next chapter: Dashing Out by Garmadon ---------------- OOC ---------------------- This was an enerving build :p First of all because our national soccerteam was playing the same time (luckily I was in another room than the tv). Secondly because I had to redo a large part of the floor mozaic... The build is based on the palace room Ska build
  5. Last month, an unknown ship flying no colors attacked an Oleander convoy and captured both the Commerce de Breshaun and the Scimitar. Several reports suggested that the privateer ship had come from Namere. So Oleon's ambassador in Balmin confronted the Royal Court, who denied any involvement, claiming the ship in question must have come from somewhere else. Both an Oleander delegation and the Balmin Royal Court are now gathering evidence to prove the other side wrong. So we're calling for volunteers for a build off to decide which side has the better arguments. Three volunteers for each side (Namere and Oleon). To volunteer, apply in this topic and state which side you'd like to help. Each volunteer will have to build one MOC. 20x20 limit on MOC size, with a minimal overhang. Deadline is June 25th. Any BoBS member can volunteer for Namere, except Oleanders. Only Oleanders can volunteer for Oleon. Each team must incorporate the following four themes at least once in their total of three builds: investigator, the ruse, lighthouse, and Pine Sol (a cleaning detergent). Once the teams are determined, a PM thread will be set up for each team. Builds must be posted in their own thread and linked to below. All builds will earn 10 DBs (but will not count as free builds). If Namere wins, Namere volunteers will receive 50 DBs in addition to the 10 DBs for building. If Oleon wins, Oleander volunteers will receive 50 DBs in addition to the 10 DBs for building. Building may commence immediately, but waiting to confer with your fellow builders might be advantageous. After the 25th, a voting thread will be set up. All EB members will be invited to determine (based on the MOCs) which side deserves to win this buid-off. If Oleon wins, the two ships will be restored to their former owners. If Namere wins, the ships will remain... somewhere. More information on Namere: Namere, once part of Mardier, are the easternmost people on the continent. They are avid seafarers, but mostly travel west. They control the gateway to the north coast of Halos, and have a pretty strong local navy. They are currently involved in open support for the rebels in the Mardier Civil War. The rebels opinion is that any of the major nations that still trade with Mardier (all of them) are supporting the "False King" in power currently. So a Namere privateer would have permission from Mardier rebel command to plunder any ships of another country not currently backing the rebels (Namere, Carno, Garvey, Altonia). So... who's up for a challenge? Throw down the gauntlet and let's get bricking!
  6. Last month, the dastardly "Bloodsucker," captained by Whoknowswho and flying the flag of Carno, forced the HMS Bullshark to surrender. This act of aggression has proved very concerning to Corrington, and it has determined that it will not permit its shipping to be threatened in this manner with impunity! Carno has been willing to allow Corrington to bring the case to its courts where it will decide whether or not it acted rightly in giving Captain Whoknowswho a valid Letter of Marque to attack Corrington. So we're calling for volunteers for a build off to decide the case. Three volunteers for each side (Carno and Corrington). To volunteer, apply in this topic and state which side you'd like to help. Each volunteer will have to build one MOC. 20x20 limit on MOC size, with a minimal overhang. Deadline is June 5th. Any BoBS member can volunteer for Carno, except Corries. Only Corries can volunteer for Corrington. Each team must incorporate the following four themes at least once in their total of three builds: the jury, Queen Annette, Captain Whoknowswho, and pine trees. Once the teams are determined, a PM thread will be set up for each team. Builds must be posted in their own thread and linked to below. All builds will earn 10 DBs (but will not count as free builds). If Carno wins, Carno volunteers will receive 50 DBs in addition to the 10 DBs for building. If Corrington wins, the Corrington crown is left to its own discretion whether or not to offer a bonus to its volunteers. Building may commence immediately, but waiting to confer with your fellow builders might be advantagous. After the 27th, a voting thread will be set up. All EB members will be invited to determine (based on the MOCs) which side deserves to win this case. If Corrington wins, the ship will be restored to the crown. If Carno wins, the ship will remain with Captain Whoknowswho. More information on Whoknowswho: Who knows what? So... who's up for a challenge? Throw down the gauntlet and let's get bricking!
  7. Eslandola vs. Mardier For Eslandola! Captain L'Ollius was widely known to be a fearless man in Mardier. However, there was one fear he had kept hidden. And now, since he had captured those Eslandolan ships during a time of Peace, it had been haunting him. His one fear: Pineapples. He had been nearly poisoned by one when he was young, and this was worse than any he had ever seen. It was a demon Pineapple. He screamed and leapt out his bed, sword in hand. Nothing. "Are ye alright Captain?" "Yes, it was....... nothing." My entry for Eslandola! Unfortunately I didn't have time to render the last two images. C&C welcome!
