  1. Somewhere southeast of Terraversa Island: Captain Bishop yer Holiness Sir? Hrmmm. Yes, what is it now Cookie? I have another question about what happened. Well, what is it? Do ya think all the bad stuff dat happened to us... could it be because you lost dat lucky hat of yers? For the last time Cookie, my hat was not lucky. Was losing yer hat why you got older den? No Cookie. Hades is a wrathful deity who does not take the failure of his faithful lightly. My sudden (re) aging reflects what occurred, and I now must make amends to him. Captain, I'm thirsty. We have no water left Cookie. Captain, do you know where we are going? Yes Cookie. ... Captain, are we there yet? DAMN YER INSOLENT PRATTLE! Your Holiness, there is a ship bearing down on us from the east. It looks to be flying the colours of Charlatan Bay. Thank you Robin. It's about bloody time! Ahoy there! Who goes? His Holiness Captain-Bishop Meloche, Pirate Lord of Charlatan Bay, coming aboard! Welcome aboard the Peregrine your Holiness, sir. Thank you Mr. Moore. I see you had no problem taking possession of her from the Bastion shipyards. No problem at all sir. When you missed the rendez-vous, I circled around while Captain Nitoni took the Toucan on to home. It is sheer good fortune we found you out here. I do have a thousand questions though, if you'll permit. What of the fleet? All lost Mr. Moore to a single Mardierian brig. Mardierian?! But you were sailing under a Letter of Marque from Mardier! What in the blazes... That Letter of Marque was nothing more than a noose they gave us to slip over our own necks. We met them south of King's Port as agreed, and they acted as sweet as you would like, accepting our apologies for the Tarlo incident and what not. And no sooner than we set our sails, the brig turned on us and cut us to pieces like they were born to it. Captain's Amara's ship was reduced to kindling and we remaining few abandoned the Donatus after she was holed beyond reckoning. By Zeus' silver balls! What of the brig escort you had hired? Tucked tail and ran at the first sign of trouble. It was as if they forgot how to fight, though I suspect a hefty bribe to her captain may have had a hand in it. (And don't blashemy!) And those mercenary marines you had planned to take aboard? Did they not help in the defense of the Donatus? It seems there was an error in the wording of their contract forms and they never came aboard. It defies belief sir! That is does Mr. Moore. Some may call it fate or bad luck, but I perceive a thread running through these events and I intend to follow it to find who is holding the other end. I need to get back to Charlatan Bay with all haste; I will consult the Oracle in order to un-muddy these waters. You Captain Moore, will lead our punishment raid on Mardieran interests for me with whichever ships we can put to sea. For make no mistake, Mardier has declared war on us, and our response will be swift, harsh, and long remembered. Very good sir! We will make both you and Hades proud! I do have one further question however sir. Yes? What happened to your lucky hat?
  2. Heroes, Villains and Legends A Journey Through the Discoveries of the Age of the Exploration: the Ships; the Captains; the People Volume Four: The Self-Styled and So-Called Sea Rats By Quentin Connors Chapter Thirteen: The Bleak Angel So it was that after that particular escapade I found myself again in Bastion, de facto capital of the Sea Rats. Unfortunately, I was also distinctly lacking in funds for further voyages to the newer colonies. Indeed, I was worryingly close to longer being able to retain accommodation for myself and storage for my manuscripts. Forced, as I was, to relocate myself I began to frequent a small tavern near the outskirts of Bastion known as the Lonely Lantern. After a few nights an unusually quiet group entered the tavern. This was a ship's crew, and fortuitously for me they were looking for more recruits. My enthusiasm was dampened but my curiosity piqued when I heard the captain's name: Leon Dracken. This was the crew of the Bleak Angel, a ship surrounded by all manner of tall and sinister tales. But still, I needed money and transport. Here, now, was a chance for both. After a couple more drinks I introduced myself to the ship's first mate, Alastair Jakes, and we discussed the notion of my joining the crew for a short time. To my relief, I was accepted. Little did I realise that Captain Dracken had been listening to the conversation. To Be Continued... And a "clean" look at the bar
  3. Meanwhile, in Charlatan Bay... Senor, you cannot possibly be serious. My patron, the brave Count Alejandro Modesta Santa Maria Di Monae, is husband to a cousin of true ruler of Eslandola, King Ferdinand Augusto the VIII! These accommodation you have offered the Count and Countess are an affront to their royal dignity and are unfit for even his lowliest servant. The fact that a degenerate, arch-blasphemer such as yourself would even attempt such a incredulous act is an insult that cannot be born. Captain Meloche, consider your self challenged! And let it be known Senor that you face duelist of legendary skill who has vangui... As I was telling you before Count DiMonae, I am afraid that the laws of this colony do not permit you to take residence in Hightown, as you're not be believers in the true faith. As such, I have found the best residence in Lowtown for you to spend your exile in as my guest. That letter of transit in your brave secretary's pocket will permit both you and your household free access to the top of the bluff, but you must reside down here 'tween sundown and sun-up. Those are my terms for granting you refuge. Yo..uu.rrr Grace is too kind to us and we glady accept your charity in this matter. And when King Ferdinand is rightly put back on his throne, I promise that his majesty will know of your generosity. Yes. yes. As you were then. I have business elsewhere. But wait, Senor Bishop. Our fleeing our traitorous revolutionary countrymen was but one part of the reason for our coming to your island. Word has spread of your growing armed strength and I wish to hire your army in order to aid in restoring our eminent King to his rightful place. "Word" has it that I have an army does it now? Well, I am afraid that while it is true the Ashen Guard answer to me, they are not available for your venture at the moment. But I beseech you sir! There is a terrible need to right the wrong in my beloved Eslandola and your recompense will be substantial. Why cannot you help us? Well I guess that "word" hadn't heard the full truth as yet, but I will enlighten your poor lost souls as you find me in a good mood. Didn't you know? I have been sailing under the marque of Mardier these last few months. But don't go off spreading spurious rumours about me; it is supposed to be a secret. ===== A few things to get to here: 1) This represents my entry in category III of KaiRNg mini-challenge 2) This build will be licensed as a small residence in Charlatan Bay and also answers the question of the mysterious letter Meloche got last month. 3) Consider this official notice that Charlatan Bay is opening up its arms (and trade) to Eslandolan Royalists from this point on. And if any ESL builder wants do a collaborative storyline to that effect, feel free to PM me. 4) Lastly, this is my 4th Lowtown build in the last two months. It has been fun exploring "less than pristine" building, and this represents both a shout out to Sir Stig Lucky Charms Gang MOC (which I saw and was inspired to try to emulate in my way) and a culmination of the building techniques I have been trying out. I'm still not where I want to be yet, but it's time to move on to try something new. So my next few builds should be moving up to Hightown, including what I have tentatively titled 'Letters of Transit". An usused photograph:
  4. While the Church of Old Faith, and its spiritual leader Bishop Meloche, does preach the gospel of Hades Ascendant, that does not mean the other two Aplynacian Gods are ignored. Zeus and Poseidon are recognized as lesser powers subservient to the Crimson Underlord, and each with the purview of the terrestrial and the nautical respectively. A shrine to both of them is found within Charlatan Bay. The Shrine of Poseidon Attendant is found in Lowtown along the edge of a rock shelf overlooking the harbour. The sea god is depicted as looking out over the waves, sitting on his throne amidst a pool of sea water. Many sailors leave a small devotion here prior to leaving on a cruise in the hope of currying his favour, for he is a capricious god and any chance of averting disaster is well worth the loss of a small treasure or bottle of spirits. While some scoff as to the effectiveness of such offerings, seaman point out that the sea water pool is miraculously never empty and the offerings disappear between sundown and sunrise each day regardless of the fact there is no clergy in Lowtown to maintain the shrine. This they say proves the holiness of the statue itself. What is a little known secret is that the church has not the one who commissioned this Shrine to Poseidon to be built. It was in fact constructed by a Mardieran sculptor turned con artist named Ernesto Alba, who created it out of loose rock and gold painted brass. Having seen similar behaviour in sailors in other colonies, he thought this an easy way to make a living. Unfortunately, Senor Alba was also a poor gambler and eventually was forced to admit the fraud to his debtors the Red Patch gang, after which they took control of the scheme as payment... and Ernesto disappeared under nefarious circumstances. The control of the shrine was wrestled away from the gang during one of the myriad of gang wars, and it has changed hands many times. At present it is under the control of the Mistress, Queenpin of Lowtown, and it seems unlikely she will let any rival wrest control from her while she remains atop the colony's criminal underworld. All this is known of course to Bishop Meloche, but as long as devotions to Hades are made he takes little interest. ============== UPDATE: This shrine was licensed in Charlatan Bay as a small Arts and Culture in the name of the winner of the Gangs of Charlatan Bay mini-challenge: nivremis.
  5. [This build is a follow-up to Improving Prospects] Life had become much better since that fateful fall day on the shoreline. That evening, when she came back with a bag full of crabs (she was very proud of that fact) and she told her father about the shiny rock she had spied on shore, Liza had no idea how much life would change. The next day, father had her take him back to that rock outcrop, and upon seeing with his own eyes the shiny yellow glow, he swept her up in a great hug and proclaimed that everything would be alright from this day on. That afternoon, the family savings were used to buy a winch ride up to Hightown, where Mr. Leo Kozlov presented his findings to the mayor and chamber of commerce. The whirlwind that followed left Liza's head spinning. That night night, they were whisked away from the squalor of the Lowtown warrens, and put up in a hotel suite until such time as a house could be built for them. Her father now had an official writ of claim issued by the Bishop himself! (That he was out to sea at the time made no difference to her. The Bishop Meloche knew who she was and they'd be best friends she was sure) They even had their own company now: Kozlov Metallurgy and Mining Limited. Next day she overheard the Ashen Guard soldiers were dispatched to guard the mine site while her father oversaw the building of the head frame and the initial digging of the shafts by the provided prisoner and slave gangs. Soon after, the gold start to flow. But most importantly, she now had her own bedroom and a pet kitty cat! Life could not be better!! But every night, she still said her prayers. "Bless Mommy, and bless Daddy, and of course bless Ms. Mittens. And bless all people of Charlatan Bay and I wish nothing bad to happen to them ever. And finally, thank you very much Hades for letting me find that gold that has made everyone so happy. I love you Hades. Good night." _______________________ Once the first shaft was dug, it did not take long for the gold seams to be located and extracted. Leo Kolzov spent every day overseeing the operation and assessing the quality of the ore prior to it being shipped up to HIghtown for smelting. The initial shaft was dig rather quickly thanks to the discovery of an underground stream bed, though that water did raise some structural concerns. The mining work itself was conducted mostly by the various prisoners kept by the colony, and their life expectancy was not considered very long. This was supplanted by a few overseers made up of former pirates to old or injured to find a berth. While not the epitome of engineering, the mine construction was sure to support Charlatan Bay's nascent economy. _____________________________ This build is being licensed as a gold mine in Charlatan Bay. While this didn't turn out exactly how I envisioned, and I found that I have a real constraints with taking pictures of large builds at the moment (my set up is a couple of cardboard sheets on my washer/dryer with flashlight lighting, and I photograph that with my cellphone), but this was a fun challenge for me. Having never done rock work before, I had challenged myself last month which led to a mine exploration build that was a complete non-sequitur from my story line. After two builds of snot cliff walls, I tried my hand at vertical rock work and luckily years of castle collecting meant I had a lot of grey on hand. :) But I am still trying to improve, so C & C is always welcome. 6. A couple of days late, or maybe just in time for Day of the Dead. In either case... Certain tales and superstitions are quick to catch and spread. Stories of a ship seen at distance burning with an eerie green fire, told hold all across the spreading empires. Corlander rationalism, the Faith of Oleon, nothing seemed to silence hushed tales of of the burning ship and its crew of the dead and damned. And around a certain night sacred to the priests of Hades reported sightings of the ship known as the Lost Soul's Tide were all to frequent.
  7. Liza Korchev and her family had fallen on rough times. Born in the colony of Longjaw, the Garvian authorities had discovered a small shrine to Hades Ascendent in their hut and promptly banished them from the colony. They managed to pay for passage to Charlatan Bay, but being penniless they were unable to settle amongst the faithful in Hightown. Her father, a geologist by trade, took what work he could find on the docks of Lowtown while her mother sewed and darned the clothes of the buccaneer crews on shore leave. Melody helped as best she could, and would frequently walk along the base of the cliffs searching the tidal pools trying to catch small crabs which she would to sell to the dockside public houses. The day after storm, Liza was strolling along the washout shoreline, when the glint of something behind a discoloured rock caught her eye. Edging closer, she quickly realized what she had found. The smile grew on her face as it dawned on her what this discovery meant. Her family would be hungry no more once they were able to mine this deposit. This marks my first attempt at horizontal SNOT rockface technique, but since I founded my colony on an island surrounded by cliffs, I figured I better start getting some practice in. So C&C is welcome, but it likely won't be applied to my next build which is already half complete; its my MCRA and I am desperately trying to get it done this weekend to keep it story relevant. :) Also, this will count as a mine exploration build in Charlatan Bay for the purposes of licensing. <- @SkaForHire More pictures:
  8. A conversation overheard in Bastion... "Let me get this right. They found a random rock sticking up..." "Yup." "And built a fort around it..." "Fort might be a strong word for it. It's a coastal battery. Barely more than a wall and a hut." "And someone volunteered to run this... wall?" "Which is why she gets the hut."
  9. And this is what happens when you have only a few hours before the deadline, and only one partially complete build, but are determined to enter something into this category... Once back in a tavern in Bastion Captain Dracken gathered his officers in a private room with plenty of grog. Several rounds of drinks later First Mate Jakes had to ask once more question about the Fountain. "So what happened to the other guy?" he asked, "this father... Tholeua?" Before Dracken could offer his thoughts Iosefka interrupted. "They say dead men tell no tales," she began, "but truely the living need listen more attentively. For Tholeau's fate is no great enigma to those inclined to hear..." The Last Island... Truely, Tholeau had drunk of the Fountain and been restored. But youth has its own curses, recklessness prime amongst many. He went on to the next island heedless of the cost he had incurred, for his selfish use of the Fountain had angered the local spirits and roused the ghosts of all who had gone before him. On the third and final of those islands he found another cave. Of course he had to know what treasure lay on this island. But he found no treasure. Only bones, and hatred for the life he had claimed for himself. And try as he want his legs availed him not. And deep in the caves of that isle he still lays. Water he sought. Water he did find. One Last Answer "So, Althea asked, "if Tholeau died on that island how did his journal get out?" "The dead," Iosefka answered, "do not all rest easy on dark nights and wyrd tides. And Tholeau, he seek immortality above all else. Death not keep his tale untold, and so he become myth. Myth not die so quietly or quickly." "What you're saying," Jakes said, "is that his ghost carried his journal off that island." "It would not be the strangest thing we have seen." Dracken said. A very last minute category B entry, because I just haven't the energy for a second elaborate build. Some "clean" shots of the cavern and it's contents are behind the spoiler button.

So, why are we doing this again? This thread is both an index of builds so that they may be easier to find for members, and a backup for the Economic Game System. As a back up of Free Builds and MRCA builds, we won't be using this thread for calculating your account. Please remember to submit the form for your Free Build or MRCA build. What do I need to do? Simply write the following information in a NEW post: Name of MOC linked to the thread | Name of Builder | Faction you belong to IE: Smuggler's Cove | Kai NRG | Eslandola Write no more. Note: All free builds must have their own thread, and there must be a link to that thread provided here. After you are finished making a thread, make sure to report your free build via the monthly webform so that you can get credit for it! Remember, if this build is going to have an Economic Game System component (IE you are going to buy a license and make money off the property) you will need to fill out either a Property License Form or a Ship License Form. Do not comment on builds in this thread, please do that on the MOC’s own thread. Can I just post in my faction thread and leave it at that? Um... 11. With the limited supply of suitable lumber on the island of Infero Pordejon earmarked for ship construction, the inhabitants of Charlatan Bay had to quickly adapt to another method of construction. Clay bricks was determined to be the best alternative, and a municipal construction yard was established under the control of the mayor's office. The brick kiln design itself is based on an older design that Bishop Meloche had discovered while studying the Tome of Go'u'Gal. The brick making process itself was quite simple. Clay excavated from the inland stream beds was mixed with water, silt from the beaches along the cliffs, and a binder of fine wood fibers. This was done in a small basin in the yard, colloquially known as the mud pit. Bricks were formed by hand and left to dry in the sun. Once dry enough to hold their shape, these were stacked in preparation for curing. The sun dried mud bricks were then placed in the charcoal-fired kiln and baked for a day. After the kiln cooled down the sufficiently, the bricks (now hardened and without colouring) were stockpiled by the factory's warehouse. Upon their arrival, the Ashen Guard Mercenaries negotiated with mayor office's for construction materials as part of their contract. These were to be put to use in building both their barracks and upgrading the existing fortifications. Ashen Guard Mercenary Corps Other Pictures This build started with me sipping a beer and just trying to find a use for those cylindrical tower bricks in a small MOC and just kept expanding so that I could tell a story. Googling (ed. note. Yes, I am using it as a verb. so what?) Brick Kiln was the deciding factor I suppose, as I found the pictures of the ancient kilns quite interesting. Game-wise, after humming and hawing over whether to split this into two properties, I am going to license it as a 32 x 64 Large Factory. One final note: this build stretched my collection to its limits. When I see BoBS MOCS these days, I turn green with envy over what I realize you have in your respective collections..
  12. In the bars and taverns of Bastion all sorts of tales are told, especially once enough grog starts to flow. One such story is that of Captain Leon Dracken and the Witch Yolanda... ...a story that begins half a century ago, at the midst of the Forty-Nine Year War, when Admiral Leon Dracken of Oleon was charged with escorting a Priest of Hades to Oleon's early colonies to 'ensure their spiritual purity and discipline'. Not an unusual task, Dracken thought. And, as he would tell himself later, refusal could have meant death... ...but the company of soldiers the priest brought with him was unusual. While Admiral Dracken remained on the ship the priest and soldiers ventured inland to wipe out the followers of the Lord of Deep Waters. The results would be recorded by history as the Blackwater Massacre. The survivors were brought onboard Dracken's ship as prisoners to be taken back to Oleon. Dracken had no doubt any fate other than public execution awaited the prisoners... ...but a storm brought Dracken's voyage to a sudden stop as his ship was battered, broken and began to sink... ...the priest ordered the prisoners remain locked up for their heresies. Dracken disagreed, violently, and as the priest bled out on the deck Dracken tried to save those below... Oleon records that both Dracken and the priest went down with the ship ensuring as many of the crew made it to longboats as possible, and their story ends there. Elsewhere, the story sometimes takes a stranger turn... ...some tell that Leon Dracken and a Blackwater witch named Yolanda were the last to a boat, and that the storm separated them from the other survivors. That Dracken and Yolanda spent days aboard the longboat before the already scant supplies ran out. Dracken was the first to pass out from hunger and dehydration... ...only to awake on an unknown island where Yolanda lead him to a cavern. And within the cave lay a fountain of strangely glowing water... "For the lives you have saved," Yolanda said, "a reward. And for the lives you could not, the burden of your guilt. A life renewed." ...Yolanda bade Dracken drink... ...The effects were immediate, and quite painful... ...And so Dracken left that mysterious isle to begin his career as a pirate. Yolanda remained with him for a time, but eventually the two were parted. Of course, that is just a tall tale, the sort sailors like to tell, isn't it? To the east the real Leon Dracken and one of his crew, the witch Iosefka, have been following Father Tholeau's journal out beyond the known seas. "Hmm", Captain Dracken says to himself, "no one here." "You could hardly be expecting someone," Iosefka says, "from the wrecks on the beach it seems no soul has ventured in some time." "Expecting? No," Dracken says softly, "but hope is the curse of humanity." "I must ask," Iosefka adds, "have you been here before?" Dracken pauses to examine the fountain, filled with brackish green water. "Perhaps," He answers, quietly, "perhaps I have."
  13. Here's the first ship of the smuggler/pirate captain James Rulthrope. It is a class 2 fast ship, Neptune's Rogue. Overall View. Closeup of one side. From the front. Closeup from the other side. From the back. The Quarterdeck. The captain's planning room. C&C appreciated, thanks.
  14. The capture of the Bonnie Lass by Montgomery DuLac's Night's Gold was a surprise to many, especially DuLac himself, who had no particular interest in owning the warship, nor the crew for a ship twice the size of his own. A few days in port, and with repairs to both ships underway, DuLac encountered an old frenemy: Elspeth Harrow. Miss Harrow was in the market for a ship, and so ownership quickly changed hands again. Now-Captain Harrow immediately set about gathering a crew of her own. She found time to get the ship blessed by a priest of the Lord of Deep Waters, and rechristened the ship Maiden of the Deep. At dusk the next day Harrow set sail with a ship full of battle-ready sailors and marines. As for DuLac and his crew, well, that many doubloons bought many a drink before they too set sail. I tried a few new things on this. The hull design was inspired by Hass Kabal's Jackdaw project over in Pirate MOCs. Not entirely convinced by the sails, but I wanted to get this posted up. I may post the alternate, sail-less version later, possibly with some crew (and a hatch to the lower decks added - the things you only realise you missed after uploading the pics). The cabin sides are hinged to open outwards, though I've yet to fully furnish the interiors. Not sure how viable this would be as an actual build; the interior is quite hollow and lacking in structural supports because I was lazy and more concerned with the outward appearance. And I just realised I forgot the rudder... more pics later, it looks.

  16. The crew of the Wight Spider sensed a tremendous opportunity on Ilse de Romantica. After all, Grayther Drave would pay a handsome fee for native treasures - and no doubt sell them on to buyers on the mainland for a small fortune. That part mattered little to Gascoigne, leader of the small mercenary band known as the Spiders. All they had to do was liberate those treasures from their current owners. Sometimes Gascoigne wondered if he and his crew enjoyed violence too much. A bottle of rum in their newly rewarded home soon put those thoughts to sleep.
  17. Heinz and Hilda Schraebitz are lifelong farmers who arrived in Charlatan Bay as penniless refugees, having lost their small agricultural estate in the tides of war. For it is ever the fate of the common man to suffer the consequences of the moves in the political arena. However, rather than succumb to grief over what they lost, they stoically started anew and now work a small plantation that takes advantage of the rich volcanic soil on Infero Pordejon. While the majority of their crop is tobacco destined for the Willem Morris Tobacco Company, they also produce enough vegetables to help feed themselves and the community. Of course, the island is not a exactly a paradise. Any farmland has to be hacked out from the wilderness, and the jungle is always eager to reclaim it. The heat and humidity is impressive, the insects voracious, and on days when the wind is in the west the air has the smell of sulphur and brimstone drifting down from the volcano which dominates the island. But most concerning, is that it always feels like the jungle is watching, and occasionally the faint sound of drums can heard in the distance. ===/===/=== Property: Small plantation Status: Licensed
  18. The Henri had dropped anchor in Pontelli some time before - plenty of time for Alberto da Pontelli, at least to have some rather noticeable experiments which quite justified de Chauncourtois' opinion to most of the crew - when Myles and Dirk (the second mate) discovered that a printer had set up shop in the town, and went in to take a look. They found that enterprising worthy working away furiously at his press - so much so, in fact, that his two apprentices found it rather difficult to keep up with him - and muttering a heap of things about fountains and journals and gold and fortune, about fortune and gold and journals and fountains - and so on. Dirk winked at the first mate with a grin and laughed, and Myles went down to see what was up with the eccentric printer. "My dear sir!" began the printer on seeing Myles in front of him, lifting up the sheet he had just removed from his press and trying to catch his breath, "Look at this! All of Nova Terra will soon be scrambling! Not to mention that it will be the making of my own fortune in selling all of these!" "Ha ha!" he went on, handing a sheet to Myles, "I knew that Rhys Thompson would be the making of me!" Myles glanced down at the paper. "The journal of Father Tholeau, and the Quest for the Fountain of Youth" ... A few more shots: The last part of the collab, but not of the storyline! Stay tuned for more soon! 19. "Set course to engage the vessel!" bellowed Calrelli, pacing the deck of his ship furiously (he liked pacing, as you may have noticed). The coast of Nellisa, which Cato had just encircled before he had set out on his return voyage to Eslandola, had not yet faded astern, when the lookout had spotted a small speck on the horizon. Afraid lest some foreign explorer had found out Eslandola’s secret, Calrelli boldly set out to engage the vessel. Lifting his telescope to his eye again, Captain Calrelli squinted in surprise. It was his captain’s boat, empty except for some clothing and, aha! - a journal. On the 15th night of the journey, the priest of Zeus, Father Tholeau, had snuck inside the captain’s boat and lowered her to the sea. Once detached from the fleet, he had set sail in the small skiff. The crew had had no idea what had happened to the priest, but Calrelli had continued with his expedition without him. Here was the boat again - but there was no sign of Tholeau. Later, in his cabin, Calrelli perused the journal, and discovered that the priest had been obsessed with an ancient manuscript that stated that the Fountain of Youth lay on an island to the East of Halos. The journal detailed Tholeau's recent escapade and his discovery of three islands. On the third of those islands he found what he was looking for – the Fountain of Youth. Knowing he did not have enough supplies to try to follow Tholeau's poorly noted nautical directions, Calrelli reluctantly decided to return home to resupply. Unfortunately for him, Cato was caught by a hurricane on his way back, which wrecked him and his fleet on the shores of Terraversa, and, since then, he has been unable to get permission for another expedition. But! - More to come soon! The ship's rail is inspired (once again!) by awesome Koen's De Ruyter Frigate. Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  20. A native of the southern nation of Salleek, Alsin Jarpur was a free spirit who made his living as a barber in his home country, like his father before him. Succumbing to wanderlust, he travelled up along the Merlonic Sea coast until a fateful day in Oleon when he was press ganged on to the royal frigate Saville. That began a decade of servitude in the cramped, miserable confines of the Oleon ship where he became as a surgeon’s mate thanks to his skill with a sharp razor blade. At some point in his impressed servitude, he learned of the Old Faith of the Patheon of Three from some of his fellow sailors, and though not devout, took to it as his own in order to fit in with his mess mates. During a cruise to the Sea of Thieves, the Saville made port at Astrapi to refit after having lost a number of spars during a storm. Ever longing for freedom, Alsin took the opportunity to jump ship and hid in the wilderness until the frigate had sailed. Then after finding little compassion for a foreigner amongst the populace of Isle de Zeus, he heard a rumour of a nearby colony where the Old Faith was practiced once again. Stealing a fishing smack, he made his way to Charlatan Bay where he was received with open arms. He was given a place in the nascent colony and established himself a barber shop on the main floor of a house built by a family who had succumbed to malaria weeks prior. Fate had taken a hand perhaps. Alsin Jarpur has quickly become a fixture in the free port. While not a fervent believer, he makes his devotions to Hades and Poseidon each morning and his living mostly by way of barbering for the town folk and passing seaman; though he will occasionally be called into action as a surgeon when a raider ship makes port after having badly lost a fight. The Dark Bishop himself can frequently found in the barber shop after his recent rejuvenation (see previous) and seems on rather cordial terms with Jarpur. Some note however that Meloche’s visits for a haircut and shave tend to coincide with when Alsin is required to conduct an amputation, and some secretly whisper that the Captain feeds on the pain and suffering of those poor souls under the knife. ==== This will be licensed as a small artisan. And I promise, no more indoor vignettes for a while. :)
  21. Cato restlessly paced the courtyard, awaiting the coming of the Oleander priest with whom he was to meet up there. The deal was too good of a one to pass up, and taking a crazy Oleander priest on board could hardly get him into any trouble. Still, it was decidedly annoying to be kept waiting by someone of that sort. There, finally! The priest rounded the corner and came into view, producing the price for the passage - and a little extra - at the same time. He held a scroll in his other hand. All in all, that Oleander priest's was a rather mysterious personality, but Cato Calrelli was not one to ask too many questions if he was paid enough. "Bon voyage, sir," he exclaimed, taking the money, "and I hope that you - that is, of course, we - may have a prosperous voyage to Terra Nova!" An overview on blue: Built for- well, wait and see, for there's more to come soon! Thanks for viewing, C&C are welcome!
  22. Monthly Free Build Registration Thread May 1st, 2016 to June 1st, 2016 What is this thread? This is the thread where YOU register your free build, besides submitting it via the webform. Um... No. Can I put up an entry for another faction member's build? If that builder has disappeared and we are getting near the end of the month, this would be allowed. What if I can't remember if a submitted a build? If you don't remember submitting a form, use the Free Build Entry List to find out what builds you've already submitted. An email will be sent containing a list of all builds submitted. Spelling is important. Is this just a copy of GoH's free build registration thread? No! I don't have any idea what made you think it is. The idea was a completely original one and has absolutely nothing to do with GoH's one. (Yes, actually it is ) Why does this look a lot like the previous ones? Because it is the same, that's why Previous Months: January's Free Build Registration Thread February's Free Build Registration Thread March's Free Build Registration Thread April's Free Build Registration Thread
  23. Colony Name: Free City of Charlatan Bay Ownership: Sea Rats Location: Infero Pordejon, Sea of Thieves Island Description: With 50 to 200ft High cliffs on all sides, and an active volcano that gives off smoke more than a couple times a year, this small island his highly volatile. An eruption in '618 was felt as far away as Nelissa. This seismic activity has led some to believe that there is gold to be mined in the cliff regions of this island. A large native tribe lives on this island, and they are rumored to be hostile. Colony History: The colony of Charlatan Bay is a free port and city-state located on the island known as Infero Pordejon. The main town itself was founded at the top of the cliffs overlooking the bay, but over time a warren like community has sprung up by the docks along the cliff base and this haven serves pirate captains and smugglers both looking to resupply their fleets and as source of miscreants for their crews. After the death of its founder, the colony found itself under Mardierian military control, though every day governance was the purview of a civilian mayor. With the eruption of the local volcano in May '618, the colony closed its port and fired on all foreign vessels trying to make landfall. Now under new leadership, this self-imposed curfew has been lifted. The colony presently hosts the headquarters of the Free Traders Association. <More details below>
  24. Previously "FRIENDS!" "We are gathered here this day to celebrate the finding of our salvation. Long had we looked for a refuge from the religious persecution each and everyone of us faced at the hands of the church. Long had we searched for the island named in the prophecies of Bishop Millar. At long last we have found our way to our much needed haven, and today we celebrate the founding of our new community. Community based on the old faith. Today, we celebrate the founding of our town, here on the shores of Charlatan Bay." "When Bishop Millar made his crossing, he found a place of spiritual promise. A place steeped in the power of Hades, Zeus, and Poseidon. Today, not only do we thank the pantheon of three for their guidance in helping us find these shores, we also cast away the shackles we unfairly wore so long in the old world." "HADES, GRANT US YER PROTECTION!" "Moderam, suderam. Moderam, suderam." "I FEEL HIS GRACE!!" "Ahhh. (That was invigorating)" "..." "ARE YE STILL HERE YA LAYABOUTS!!? Ye have yer orders! Get to building the palisades and huts. Cut down those trees and get a stockade built fer the livestock. GET MOVIN' YE PACK OF FLEA RIDDEN DOGS!" "Boy, go fetch Captain Amara and tell her to prepare to set sail. We have hungry mouths to feed after all. And fetch the barber; I need a shave these bristles off. In fact, after a shave and bath I should feel like a new man." ==== This was be licensed a small cultural (i.e. Altar of Hades), with plans to expand on it later.
  25. Garmadon

    Off to Pontelli!

The next morning Captain Whiffo and his first and second mate strode into the ship builders office again. "Sir," exclaimed the director, still elated by the events of the preceding evening, "there she be, ratlines and rigging tight, and all in all quite seaworthy!" "Haha!" replied the Captain, and, turning to the mates, he exclaimed, "prepare the crew by high tide, and we shall be off at once!" "Uh, Cap'in," replied the second mate, "you do know you've given us exactly five minutes?" "Pshaw!" responded the captain, "well, then make it five and a half. We're off to Pontelli, me hearties!" Five and a half minutes later the anchor was up, and the Henri sailed out into the uncharted waters of adventure. A few hours later, as the first watch went below, Captain Whiffo sent for his first mate in his cabin. "Mr. Bowditch, sir," he began, "as you can see, we be hear, and need to get somewhere over there to Pontelli." That was now taken care of. "Before we left, by the by," went on the Captain, "I went over to see Wilkinson, and he informed me that he had settled the whole mayor thing, and I have his letter to Alberto de Pontelli right here. Let's see," he cleared his throat. To Alberto de Pontelli Terreli, 23rd of April, 616 As mentioned earlier, your experiments in the area of using the phlogiston extracted from Oleonish wine to lift pieces of cloth with other various oddities of a round and brownish hue - in short, with coconuts - into the air, convinced me that your worthy self would make a most excellent mayor for the settlement of Pontelli - though, also, as mentioned previously, either Colonel Brickinson or some other person willing (or not) would be the one who would have to do all the work involved in the post. I give you, sir, my congratulations, and hope that you may have a long and prosperous life (at least as long as may be reasonably expected, given one with your own occupation), and that you will avoid blowing up (or down) more houses in the settlement than necessary for the pursuit of science. I sincerely hope that this letter reaches you in good health - in short, in a pre-poisoned, exploded, burst, or other uncomfortable condition, and that you will enjoy and make the most of your new and honorable position. Yours, E. T. Wilkinson de Chauncourtois "Well, well," continued the Captain, "there is a fine end to that business. That is all!" The second mate soon after came down and called on the Captain. "Compliments, sir," he declared, saluting, "the weather looks fine, sir, and Terreli has just faded astern." "Very well then sir," replied Captain Whiffo, "I shall go topside then and see what's up with that Oleon passenger guy." Meanwhile Myles had checked that all the cannon, powder, and balls were prepared for any time at which they might be needed. Pirates and other enemies (well, for all practical purposes they were pirates too...) swarmed the seas, and though the Henri could easily outrun most of the other ships east of Terraversa, it were always best to be prepared. Off they were to sea, at last, and to the Pontelli - the first mate smiled a bit as he thought of de Chauncourtois' letter, and though he likewise did hope that they would arrive to find the new mayor (well, soon to be, that is) in a pre-exploded state, it was undoubtedly just a tad eccentric to actually declare as much. The second mate: The interior: I was quite surprised to find how little interior room (comparatively speaking) there was in such a large-ish ship, but I tried to make the most of what I had! The cook: And a couple of unedited overview shots: The crew (well, most of the crew was actually below deck when I took the first pictures, and above when I took the interior shots, so they don't show up here - at least, that was the excuse they gave! ): It's finally ready! The Henri took a little over one month to build, and a little less than that to edit (I did have a lot of other things to do, btw!) A fast trading ship (I'm think Class 7 or 8F, but I won't be licencing it for a while yet), the Henri has a complete interior, an armament broadside of three 18 pounders, and a very exhausting amount of rigging! She is owned and commanded by Captain Whiffo, a high ranking member of the ETWC. Myles Bowditch (my sig-fig) is the first mate and navigator, and the second mate is the guy behind the wheel (if the story didn't make that clear!). The Henri was greatly inspired by the Putnam and Koen's awesome De Ruyer Frigate, which was a lot of help, especially with the rigging - which, by the way, I believe I only had to redo completely once, due to the wind (it was blowing a hurricane when I went out to take pictures!) blowing the white posterboard down on it from above (when I discovered the 17-18th century ships were apparently not rigged with such a possibilty in mind!) Thanks for viewing, C&C are always welcome!
