  2. The first settlers to the ominously named Isla del Diablo needed somewhere to stay. So it was that they pooled together to build the Haven Common House. A few simple rules, and some common sense, generally keep the peace while the Sea Rats build up their presence and resources on the newly discovered island. The common house is built from a mix of local wood and timbers removed from damage ships from the flotilla that brought the Sea Rats to the island. Although little more than an overgrown shack it does have a fire pit for cooking - and keeping the residents warm - and a small bell in case of emergencies.
  3. "20th of Anthesterion, The year of 616AE of our holy gods Dear Magdalene, I miss you so much but I can't imagine wishing you were here, with me, in this harsh environment. The blistering sun alone would have made your pale skin look terrible. Here in the New World time passes by quickly, as we constantly have to organize not only our King's men, military and civil servants, but also all those ignorant but pompous private merchants that seek to make a fortune out of these islands. Especially difficult is the task of communication between our colonies that are under constant threat from our neighboring nations, those red vultures in particular. Last week I had to stay away from my usual seat at Breshaun and was stationed at one of our lesser colonies, Eltina, in Le Bellan island. Eltina is mainly an agricultural "support" colony as we call it these days, with ample of sugar plantations that produce the much needed sugar canes for our rum, the so called spice of the eastern hemisphere. Due to the nature of this colony, we don't have many men stationed there as more and more men are needed to our ever growing Breshaun both to maintain order and safeguard those self righteous nobles that seems to flock the New World islands these days. Peace maintenance and guard duties in Eltina fall only to a handful of men, a company of (mostly) elder soldiers that are close to their end of military service. This company is based on a newly erected building that acts as barracks (as totally opposed to the barracks building I described you back in Breshaun) and as a semaphore station. What is semaphore you might ask? Well this is a fairly new invention from our genius scientist, Depillon that made our lives easier. No more messenger pigeons for us. They couldn't work here as there is too much heat and there are way too many vultures flying over our heads. So, semaphore is basically a very high mast with two moving planks on its sides that can be turned around. That way we can signal messages back to Breshaun in a matter of minutes. Two operators are enough for this towering masterpiece to work efficiently. And what an invaluable asset it proved! Three days ago, our vile neighbors, those Corrish scum, that roam the sea east of Le Bellan and secretly smuggle sugar canes from Eltina, had some plan. They knew that Eltina was poorly guarded and decided to raid the colony! Why pay for sugar canes when you can get them for free is what they obviously thought and they had right. I would have done the same to them any time! Anyway, just in the nick of time, one of our troops stationed at the semaphore station's upper floor, saw four sails bearing Corrish military flags, coming at great speed towards Eltina. Thankfully, the experienced operators of the semaphore relayed the message fast to Breshaun and the governor immediately sent a battalion horse riding as fast as they could to help us. Upon reaching Eltina, fortunately in time, they were deployed on the shore bearing our flags and ready to fight. When those coward Corrish saw that we were ready for them and that they had lost the element of surprise, they turned their ships and fled. And that's exactly how Eltina was saved... Faithfully yours, Hugo D' Offren" The short version? Corries came to Eltina, saw, never conquered This building is a true army-in-being! 6. The Crossing Series Mapbc by skaforhire, on Flickr Challenge One: The Great Push for Exploration. As noted, the three main nations of the Madrice Peninsula, Oleon, Corrington, and Eslandola are trying to explore New Terra before all other nations do. Their goal is to claim as much land as possible. In this challenge you will be sailing for your nation in order to find and establish new colonies for the glory of your empire. Or, perhaps you decide to sail to the port of Bastion in the Nest of Thieves to join the Sea Rats. In that case, you will be searching for your own new pirate bases to raid your enemies from. Due Date: February 15th anywhere in the world. Category A: The First Encounter Nobody has every reported seeing a Native New Terran before (outside of Terraversa), but there have been whole villages found on both the isles of Nellisa and Nest of Thieves. So, for sure there must be someone living in New Terra. In fact, reports that Ivo Fortesque has found an Island with natives have circulated throughout the Sea of Storms and the Terraversa Sea. In this category, builders will display the first encounter with a Native New Terran. Make sure to display some of their cultural aspects. For example, perhaps show their type of dwelling, watercraft, or maybe a ritual (these are NOT the limits of acceptability). This category is limited to representations no larger than 16 x 16 with limited overhang. This category will be judged on build quality, story quality, fit with overall story, and presentation. Category B: Land Ho! In this category, you should depict your sigfig’s first attempt at exploration in New Terra. There should be a piece of land involved in this MOC. Size limit: 32 x 32 with limited overhang. This category will be judged on build quality, fit with overall story, and presentation. The winning faction will get to pick 2 new islands first off the revealed map. The second place faction will get to pick two new islands second. The third and fourth place factions will pick one island. All factions will be allowed to name their island/s, but they must be approved by the leadership council. Entries: Your entries for this category should have their own threads, and should be linked back here. It is optional to add the front topic tag. (ie: [COR - Ch1 Cat B] title ) However, the MOC will not be officially entered into the competition without posting a link to it here. Winners!
  7. As some of you might have read, the Wringe I was captured by the pirate Zublious Van Wreck on his Ghost Harvester. "This is not good! The Fallen Angel has fallen, and we don't stand a chance against a ship this big, we'll have to give up." "We are giving up! Your broadside would completely destroy our ship! Take everything we have but leave us alive!" "You can stay alive, but not on your ship, this is a nice prize I'll be able to put to good use!" "Get some guns on here, mighty crewman, lets turn this unarmed vessel into a well armed vessel!" "Bring her to the Nest of Thieves, you should be able to defend her well to get there!" "So, you don't want to be a pirate but you want to stay alive? Well, you have choosen poorly..." "Go off on this raft we found drifting around here, maybe you survive!" "Captain, I'm not sure if this was the right choice. But they have given us some wood, maybe we can still get somewhere" "They haven't thought that the piece of rope they used to constrain us might be useful to us! We can build a mast!" *concentrated silence* "And they even left us some clothing! Even better!" "I told you everything is better than being a pirate" "I'm not sure if I completely agree" "Is that Captain Ben D'Anvers? I thought we had lost him with his ship during the hurricane!" "Save me!" *swimming noises* "Grab my hand!" "I hope we'll arrive somewhere before we run out of water or into another hurricane..." I hope you liked the story how the crew of the Wringe I as well as the captain of the Knight of Stedor got stuck on a raft floating around the ocean. There might be more coming to this story, or maybe not (anyone who wants to pick up on this story is free to do so, just tell me before doing so. The parts shouldn't be impossible to get:P)... The ship you saw will not be completed, it is just barely a third of a broadside without masts and anything else:P

Them's the rule of the game, sorry, nothing we can do about that. As for your ship.... ...we've decided that we like the colors of it too much. So we've decided to keep it. Wait, you're taking our ship?! Hold on there, lady. Yes, we're keeping your ship. But we aren't total jerks. We're giving you one to replace it. In fact, it is also a class 2 trade, so in game terms, you won't even notice a difference in how it performs in the MCRA. There it is right now. The Absolutely Fabulous. It's not even minifig scale! It's not like Corrington has a monopoly on the color red. Wait a second. Weren't you in Andromeda's Gates last week playing the hard wares guy (http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=121965)? Yeah, my agent got me a gig as an extra for both Eurobricks games. That's wonderful! I've always wanted to be an actress! Who...who are you? And...where's Peacock? She's Wilhemina Savore, the newest graduate student of the group. I've had to let "Motorboat" go, because the test audiences found him to be too offensive. Call me Willy. We got rid of Peacock, just like that? Yes. DOWNSIZED!!! Meh, I never liked the guy much, anyway. Comments and criticisms are all welcome!

  13. Hi guys, this feature is both a contribution to the ongoing tax debate, and a reply to a remark Garmadon made in the 'Introduction Thread' about my title The Army of Colonial Minions is back! And this time they have gone financial, turning into every Sea Rat's worst nightmare. These guys have come up with a diabolic device to collect tax payments: They literally suck the hard earned Doubloons right out of your pockets! 14. For a smaller vessel, the Bloody White Crow - referring to the blood streaks it's captain paints her in - is a surprisingly feared vessel. Not so much for it's own abilities but for the fact that said captain, one Jacqueline "Jack" Yharnam, is said to be cursed. The story, or so it goes, is that she was in Bastion one debauched night when someone gave her that most dreaded of curses, the black spot. As the mark began to form on her hand, Jack Yharnam cut the hand off to forestall the curse. Whether or not it worked, or is even true, few are willing to sail under Cap'n Yharnam's command. On the other hand, some stories say the curse instead effects others nearby. Some crews surrender immediately lest they be afflicted. Of course, it could just be that she is occasionally lucky and knows how to leverage her reputation for impressive ends. Her ship of the last few years, the Bloody White Crow, is quite recognizable on the waters of Terraversa. A few people claim she exchanged it from Grayther Drave in return for an idol of pure gold. And though small, it is not without some comforts, at least for the Cap'n. This is freebuild number four, so are appreciated. This is going to be my free license once I decide if I want to call it a Class 2A or 2WR. That rigging was a pain to do on LDD. I may try and add some crew for a couple more images later. Jack Yharnam herself appeared in an earlier freebuild, Drave's Emporium. Comments and criticisms welcome.

    [OL - FB6] The 'Zephyr'

Hi mateys, long time no sea see, ok, I promise this is my last ship this month. It's also my sixth FB this month, so if you like her, I'd much appreciate your approval Now, since it's still winter, please prepare for the lamest pun this season: Let there be... Snow! The 'Zephyr' is a trading vessel like many to be found sailing the seas crewed and commanded by proud Oleanders. She is in her best years and far travelled, having sovereignly mastered the challenging conditions of the Merlonic Sea as well as those of the Great Northern Ocean. Although not the fastest, she is nonetheless a versatile vessel, spacy and reliable. All of these attributes make her famous especially among merchants from Oleon's northern provinces, such as Bothnia, who foremost need save transportation of the huge amounts of agricultural goods growing in these fertile lands. The 'Zephyr' is named after the God of the Western Winds, the gentlest wind, worshipped as the messenger of spring. It's a wisely chosen, fitting name, as she, too, brings fertility and growth along to her ports of destination. Now her new home is the Sea of Storms. May the 'Zephyr' also master these waters and bring prosperity to wherever she drops anchor. Here, again, next to the ever-so-puny IFS Last, but not least, the God of the Western Winds himself, well, as a figure head about: Now, the 'Zephyr' might not be a fast ship, but her construction sure had to be speed boat ship build, as I only had yesterday and today to build her from scratch. Ok, after more than 15h of construction time I copied most of the sails from another ship, as making new ones would have cost me another day I think. Also, sorry if there's not a lot of details around, I would have added more crew members, but time was of the essence. Anyway, with this ship I was going for a rather plain looking workhorse. Nothing fancy, not very fast, simply a cargo ship that looks reliable, one that will get 'things done'. I tried to go with as little tumblehome as I could stand, a dull prow and no sleek hull. Might not sound like a difficult undertaking. But building her wasn't 'gentle' at all, rather one of those builds where no angle worked out right, I constantly had to adjust, and the paintjob was a huge pain. Well, now she's finished, and I'm growing quite fond of the design. Not my best work, but also not bad. Thanks for enduring my dreadful vessels this month! C&C welcome! Vive le Roi!
  17. One of Freddy's neighbors worked as a foreman over a sugarcane plantation just outside the city limits of Rassilon. Sugarcane was extremely popular on the island. It just goes to show you that even pirates can have a sweet tooth.

    [OL - FB5] 'La Recouvrance'

Ahoy once more, laddies! True to my credo 'A ship a day keeps the Corry away' I am honored to present to you the pride of the Oleander trading fleet, the Class 5F schooner 'La Recouvrance'. Also, this is my fifth FB this month (my fingers are bleeding), so should you like her, I'd appreciate your approval This latest ship in Oleon's Merchant Navy was build in the 'Royal Shipyards' head facilities in Quilbignon, planned and supervised by Master Engineer Maurice chevalier de Col. To be even more precise, she was laid down and build in record speed in the larger of the two 'Pontaniou' basins on Quilbignon's western banks, and named after the quarter itself. Her proud name is the ultimate expression of the confidence Recouvrance's shipwrights put into their own abilities of crafting masterful vessels. May she live up to this promise and may she serve King and Nation to her full potential! With a hull length of 94 studs 'La Recouvrance' is not only Oleon's largest trading vessel, but her sleek hull, low center of gravity, and three gaff rigged masts also make her the fastest of all ships in the Sea of Storms. These attributes in combination with a crew composed of only the most dedicated and experienced sailors will hopefully favor the voyages that lie ahead. May there be many to come! Here's a comparison shot, you can see her putting the puny IFS to shame About this ship: I tried to make her paint scheme simmilar to that of the 'Revenant', kind of a 'corporate design' idea, which I might continue. So no fancy colors. I'm very pleased with her shape to be honest. It was a tough job designing her this low, since I had to manage hiding all the connections under deck, pretty hard considering the curvature. I'm especially fond of the way the stern turned out, along with the overhang (good you can build it without knowing the nautical term for it), which I tried for the first time. As always, she's buildable and would be stable enough, although she'd not be swooshable, 'cause of her size. The masts would be delicate, but - with internal flex tubes and proper (real) rigging - could be supported. Oh, and placing the water was more than a pain - but worth it. Thanks for watching. As always, C&C welcome! Vive le Roi!
  19. Ahoy again, yet another ship has entered Oleon's Merchant Navy. It's my fourth FB this month, so feel free to approve, should you like her I'd like to present to you 'Amphitrite's Lily'. 'Amphitrite's Lily' must be the oldest ship still afloat in the Sea of Storms. A small cog, surely no beauty, a true relic in terms of a ship's life expectancy. Having been around since the Juniper War, in which she was used as a supply ship, she served Oleon greatly and was mustered out years ago, waiting to be broken up. Now, however, the Nation calls her once more! Every vessel is needed in the race for expansion. She is put at the command of one of Oleon's greatest sea dogs, a man - no - a legend almost as old as the 'Lily' herself. And he rules the deck with an iron fist. No doubt there is: the two relics will prevail again! About this ship. Believe it or not, this old bucket is buildable. This technique kind of 'happened', and I think it works out alright depicting (very) old ships. The structure at its base is formed by hinge plates, and the sides are held together with flex tubes. All is attached to the ship's central axis at multiple points, it'd be decently stable. Oh, and I hope I got the sail right this time Thanks for watching, C&C welcome Vive le Roi!
  20. This is my fourth free build of the month, so approvals and critiques are most welcome. * * * Even though Weelond is still too small of a town to gain any immediate benefit from properties in the hinterlands of An Holli, Weelond’s new mayor knew that that time would come. Additionally, Willem Guilder was a company man for the MCTC through and through. So, to take advantage of the MCTC’s cotton monopoly, Guilder bought some prime land not far from town and set up a medium-sized cotton plantation. The growing season is apparently surprisingly short, as his workers are already busy picking cotton! Once the crop comes in, he plans on expanding the plantation even more. * * * I am ineligible for the rebates offered for building and licensing properties in Weelond this month, so the rebates are still available. The next two properties licensed in Weelond in February by MCTC members who have not previously built in Weelond will get 2db back (from me). Additionally, at the end of the month, I'll award an extra 3db to the best non-residential property licensed in Weelond. The citizens of Weelond are particularly in need of artisan’s shops!
  21. This is my third freebuild this month, so if you like the ship don't hesitate to approve, thank you ! "La Raenette" Felipe de la Manzana, after his wreckage, had to join Terelli where he could bought a new ship. Once in the Capital port, he managed to hire some new crewmen and found an ancient Oleon designed fast cutter for sell. He bought her and after few repairs and new sails, the ship was ready ! She was renamed "La Raenette", in homage to her Oleander origins. Felipe set rapidly sails to Berelli to join his friend Basil and to know if his diplomatic efforts had been succeed. She is a fast cutter, rapid and easily manned, but she is not very well armed. Just an old 12pounder gun is light for self defense, but with an escort, it will not be a problem. Here are the official soldiers on board making some training : Here is a seagul view : So Felipe is back for new adventures (the continuing of the one he already began...) Hope you like it. The ship is licensed as my new free license ship. It is a 1 gun cutter, it is a Class 2 F vessel. I tryed a totally new approach for this build as I go for a brickbuilt hull and a more advanced rigging than for the appleseed. I know it's not perfect but I am quite happy how it turned out. Btw, I've re-made the rigging of the poor appleseed when I built her sunk. You can see her new aspect on my flickr. Comment and criticism are welcome. Thank you !
  22. Welcome to Wilfredo's Wagons, the only best wainwright in Bardo! Run by Wilfredo and his son, it's the only finest place to buy a wagon in Bardo! This shop is set up to be modular, so hopefully i can build a whole street of shops! C&C Welcome!
  23. Sweat saves Blood. Digging saves Blood. old military proverbs Lt. Wolf was satisfied. Together with Sgt. Hodson, he was checking the battle positions he ordered his men to dig. McKenzie´s and Henderson´s position was looking good. Henderson was just getting the last spades of Earth out and McKenzie, as the consumate sniper he was, was finishing the camouflage. Sgt. Hodson was checking the lines of fire. Lt.Wolf had applied camouflage to his face to show his men how it should be done. He made a mental note to order his men not to wear their tschakos when entrenched. Can a Moderator change the title to [COR-CH2A] please.

    [OL - FB3] The 'Revenant'

Ahoy mateys, may I present my first ship in these waters, the Class 2F cutter 'Revenant'. This is also my third FB this month, so if you like it, please approve The 'Revenant' is a fine example of Oleon's new 'Piranha'-class cutter, introduced by the 'Royal Shipyards' of Breshaun. It's the first time an entire class of ships was not planned in the motherland, showing the growing importance of both the island of Le Bellan and Breshaun's 'Royal Shipyards' branch. Designed for speed and manouverability this new class of vessels is considered a great fit for the tricky waters around Le Bellan with their shallows and strong, ever changing currents. Being regarded excellent crafts these ships fulfill their purpose as merchantmen as well as minor military vessels for both convoy duty and costal patrol. The 'Revenant' is commanded by Guillaume Lejeune, a skilled and experienced sailor and now entrepreneur, constantly busy shuffling goods in between the various ports of the New and Old World. He proudly flies the flag of the Oleander Merchant Navy, showing his devotion to the King and Oleon's cause. About this ship: I'm not a big fan of fancy colors, plus most specialized parts don't come in a broad variety of them, so the ship might look a bit dull. But as always all could be built in real bricks, just sails and rigging are placeholders, and the yards would require rigging to be held in place. The construction would be stabil, maybe even swooshable. The name was chosen hoping the ship will return from all the MCRAs to come. C&C welcome. Vive le Roi!
